WALKING ON A DREAM made a pleasing start when finishing runner-up over C&D in October and this appears to represent an excellent opportunity for Lucinda Russell’s gelding to go one better. Famous Liss is capable of being in the mix judged on his novice form last summer. The return to 2m may well be another positive, while Glenville appeals as the type to improve on his first attempt over hurdles.

Davy Russell’s retirement means that Lucinda Russell’s number one rider is the only currently licensed jockey to have won two Grand Nationals at Aintree and the Sligo native still has time on his side to add to that record or even win a Scottish Grand National here at Ayr. Fox and Russell were out of luck in the Welsh version at Chepstow last week when Your Own Story still managed an honourable 6th of 15 behind Val Dancer but Fox had ridden Russell’s winner Myretown at Wetherby on Boxing Day and the well established partnership was back amongst the winners when Wal Bucks won in the JP McManus colours at Haydock on Monday Fox has won and finished second (twice) here in the past on Ardera Cross and the pair team up again over hurdles at 1.40 after the now 14 year-old won a chase on this card last year

Freshened up following a costly Southwell defeat in the summer, ALRIGHT DAI made amends with an impressive victory at Market Rasen on Boxing Day and he is 5lb well-in under his penalty. The Penrith based handler is recovering from injuries sustained in a fall on the gallops at Greystoke but the trainer’s recuperation isn’t stopping the horses from running and winning and the Richards horsebox rarely leaves one of his favourite tracks at Ayr without a prize or two nestling on the passenger seat. Richards had his first runner of 2025 at Musselburgh yesterday with Rickety Gate and the handler had a Saturday double at Haydock last week to take his seasonal total to 19 ahead of today’s action here in Ayrshire and the meetings at Musselburgh and Newcastle tomorrow and Saturday Richards made 10 entries for today’s card but the horse most punters will want to see is the highly-regarded President Scottie (2.50) which won a maiden hurdle here in February and started his chasing career with an excellent second to White Rhino at Haydock a month ago.

He takes a step up in trip, which could eke out the improvement required to go in again. Both Barrels justified favouritism over an extended 2m6f at Kelso last April and could get involved on his reappearance. Forged Well is another to watch out for.
