March appears to have come in like a lamb this year, and only time will tell whether it goes out like a lion but we are forecast a beautiful evening for our racing tonight so let’s enjoy it while it lasts.
We have seven races for you today, starting with an amateur riders’ race, followed by an interesting maiden, in which the John Gosden-trained Pantile Warrior will be looking to break his maiden. He cost 250,000 guineas as a foal and finished second at Sandown, Newbury and Goodwood last year; he has also been gelded since his last run, so connections will be keen to get a win into him.
The evening continues with five handicaps. I like the look of Fallen Soldier in the 6.30, Silky Robin in the 7.00, Windsor Pass in the 7.30, Kitaro Kich in the 8.00 and Heeratthetrack in the 8.30 but several in each race look to have a chance, so good luck.
I hope you have an enjoyable evening.

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Hayley is a pioneer for women in racing, boasting a career full of groundbreaking achievements, culminating in her 1,000th career win while riding Tradesman to victory at Chelmsford. Watch Here
Historically, racing was considered a men’s sport; however, in recent years, significant progress has been made, and women have truly taken the reins. Ladies Day at the races has historically been synonymous with grace, style, and a celebration of women in fashion and status. What once served as a welcoming day for women has now evolved into a platform where they shine both in their attire and in the saddle.
Fast forward to 2025, and the spotlight is no longer solely on the elegant attendees; it is equally shared with the fearless and talented female jockeys who compete at the highest levels of the sport. To honour this evolution, we are proud to share a multi-channel campaign that showcases the remarkable stories of inspirational women on and off the track.
For our 2024 Ladies Day, Chelmsford City Racecourse was proud to collaborate with the renowned national brand Fenwick to celebrate remarkable women making a difference in our county. From inspiring cancer survivors to dedicated carers, we had the privilege of recognising their incredible contributions with thoughtful gifts as a token of our appreciation.
In our first feature, we sat down with Essex-born Charlotte Brew, the trailblazer who made history as the first female jockey to ride in the Grand National in 1977 Now, on International Women’s Day 2025, we continue this journey with an exclusive interview with Hayley Turner OBE, a true pioneer who achieved her 1000th career win right here at Chelmsford City Racecourse.

In what should prove to be an informative affair, PANTILE WARRIOR gets the nod. The gelded son of Frankel was last seen finishing an admirable second behind a subsequent winner over a mile at Goodwood when last seen and, stepping up in trip, he gets the nod to gain a breakthrough victory. Reasoning has an eye-catching profile on paper and it would be no surprise if this daughter of Justify was able to make her presence felt first time up. Andersen completes the shortlist.

DESERT CHAMPION lost little in defeat when finishing a close-up third at Wolverhampton last month and, sporting a visor for the first time on handicap debut, he gets the vote to go two places better this time around. Just Like Magic showed a likeable attitude when getting off the mark at the first time of asking in handicap company recently and he looks the main danger off 3lb higher. Commendation can also go well.

JUST LIKE MAGIC was much improved when making a winning handicap debut at Lingfield 5 weeks ago, leaving the impression there’s more to come in the process. He can defy a 3lb rise in the weights and follow up. Desert Champion, who is fitted with a visor for his respective handicap debut, and another last-time-out winner, Commendation, head the dangers.

Having filled the runner-up spot here and at Wolverhampton in recent months, compensation could be on the cards for SILKY ROBIN. Brian Toomey’s gelding makes plenty of appeal running off the same mark and he looks ready to open his account. The biggest threat may emerge from Papa Don’t Preach, who arrives on the back of a close-up third over C&D, while fellow in-form rival Due Date is also likely to be involved.

PAPA DON’T PREACH: Following its run on 25/2/2025 it was reported that the horse hung right-handed. BEAR TO DREAM: Following its run on 24/1/2025 it was reported that the horse was wounded on both hind legs.
Probable S.P’s: 4-1 Silky Robin (IRE), 9-2 Due Date (GB), 5-1 Papa Don’t Preach (IRE), 7-1 Poetic Jack (GB), 10-1 Lilkian (GB), 11-1 Bear To Dream (IRE), 14-1 Lion’s Dream (FR), 18-1 Lion Ring (IRE), 22-1 Nubough (IRE), 40-1 Doves of Peace (IRE) PLAY SMARTER
With a strong pace forecast, this may be run to suit the free-going PAPA DON’T PREACH who last time settled better than he has done previously and is on a fair handicap mark if putting it all together Poetic Jack and Silky Robin both tend to race prominently but have some strong form around this track and merit plenty of respect.

Stella Hogan supplemented her victory at Kempton in mid-January with creditable efforts in defeat at that same venue and most recently at Southwell. Mick Appleby’s mare is likely to post another bold bid off just 1lb higher, but WINDSOR PASS is slightly more compelling. The seven-year-old accounted for reopposing second Mashaan on her penultimate start over C&D and she is taken to confirm her superiority over the Kodiac gelding once more.

Kitaro Kich has won three of his four starts so far this year and another good effort looks likely on the back of a convincing success at Lingfield earlier in the week. Mr Fustic has also scored at Lingfield recently and is another of interest, but ANGELICA K makes most appeal. The five-year-old appreciated the return to today’s shorter distance when beating a subsequent winner at Kempton and there looks more to come from her on the strength of that form.

Stall 11 isn’t ideal, but KITARO KICH is in the form of his life at present and is difficult to oppose under a 5lb penalty having run out a most decisive winner at Lingfield earlier in the week. Waleyfa is still lightly raced for her current yard and goes well fresh, so must enter calculations, along with Angelica K, who remains unexposed at this trip.
