2025 not only celebrates the racecourse’s 10 year anniversary but also 10 years of supporting and making, we believe, a meaningful impact through our charitable and sustainable efforts. This year our goal is to support 10 carefully selected charities, aiming to raise a target of £10,000 for each of them. We are selecting organisations that are a mix of equine charities, as well as local ones, that are likely to have an impact or touch the lives of people in our community.
This month, we welcome Dementia UK, whose admirable nurses provide crucial care and support to those, who are affected by dementia.
If you would like to help towards our goal and make a donation, please visit their stand, which is situated in the foyer of the Grandstand.
Have a lovely evening.

Timeform Rating
The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability.
The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions. A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances).
The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

SIR MAXI took a step back in the right direction when runner-up in first-time blinkers at Newcastle last week and Sam England’s gelding, a winner over 6f at the same venue in January, could go one better with the headgear utilised once again. Amaysmont’s last success came here in November off a 2lb lower mark and he is entitled to be in the mix on his first run since a Wolverhampton third in January. Others to note are Kurimu and Sonmarg.

CHAMPAGNE ON ICE clearly knew her job when going agonisingly close to making a winning start at Kempton and the drop from a mile is unlikely to harm her credentials in her bid to go one better Hey Boo finished off her race well when scoring over C&D and she warrants plenty of respect, despite giving weight away to all of her rivals. Brunel Charm remains on the same mark as his recent third over C&D and the eight-year-old, who has held his form well over the past few months, is likely to make his presence felt once again. Southbank is another who brings consistent form to the table, but the vote goes to JUST TEN HIGH. Successful at Wolverhampton in February, Dylan Cunha’s gelding has since been denied by a neck twice at Newcastle and this may be the opportunity needed to get back to winning ways.

FIDELIUS starts his four-year-old campaign at a workable level and looks worth chancing for a yard that knows the time of day with sprinters. Stable companions Diomed Spirit and Existent top the weights and it may be the latter who shines the most for Stuart Williams on these terms. El Bufalo adds further spice to the race, despite a 4lb higher rating imposed for his track-and-trip triumph last time out.

METALLO, who was highly tried as a juvenile, has shown steady improvement since being gelded and, with his yard also in flying form, he could have been found a decent opportunity to strike on his fifth start in a handicap. Salamanca sets a decent standard and, having won over C&D on his last completed start, rates another strong contender. Magico and Penzance are viable each-way options to consider

A drop in distance was enough for Lingfield scorer TIME TESTED to be thwarted in his follow-up bid when fourth over a mile at Newcastle. However, Michael Bell’s charge has since undergone a gelding procedure and the return to 1m2f could see him regain the winning thread. Cerulean Summer has posted several creditable efforts in defeat over 1m4f of late and reverting to this trip shouldn’t prevent another good account. Egoiste is also noted.

TIME TESTED is unexposed over this trip and he could be the answer on the back of a creditable fourth dropped to a mile at Newcastle where the steady pace wouldn’t have been ideal. Cases can also be made for Green Power and the consistent Cerulean Summer

DRIFTS AWAY had little difficulty in supplementing a Kempton victory over a furlong shorter here last month and another bold bid looks likely Although a 6lb higher mark demands a career best from the four-year-old, he’s difficult to oppose in his current heart. The biggest threat may emerge from last weekend’s course scorer Stella Hogan, who should have more to come in a retained eye shield. Star Pupil might fare best of the remainder

This looks trappy and the suggestion is STELLA HOGAN, who has done nothing wrong in her four appearances since the turn of the year and she looked better than ever when striking over 7f here on Saturday. Though below par at Southwell on Tuesday, Timetobenice will merit serious consideration if allowed to take his chance, while Star Pupil is also in with a shout. Conversely, the hat-trick seeking Drifts Away looks vulnerable off his revised mark.

In support of Dementia UK, we welcomed volunteer Gordon who shared his personal story with us
We are helping families facing dementia by fundraising as part of our 10 Years of Community campaign.
Every minute another person will develop Dementia, with over 944,000 people in the UK affected by this condition, and their Admiral Nurses provide a lifeline to families up and down the country who urgently need their support. Unfortunately, there is no cure for dementia but there is care.
We met Gordon who sadly lost his wife aged 74 after being diagnosed with dementia following a stroke. Gordon now volunteers, helping raise vital funds for their admiral nurses.
Gordon told us “Not many people realise, that dementia kills more people than heart attacks and cancer put together, it is a shocking statistic, and every donation helps so much and is gratefully received.”

When her partner Andy was diagnosed with dementia at the age of 52, Christine struggled to know where to turn.
“As a nurse, I know what dementia ultimately means – so when my partner Andy was diagnosed with young onset dementia, I was devastated. I know that the person I love is going to change. He’s still Andy, but he is going to become a different version. Living with dementia is hard. Your whole life changes. Relationship dynamics change. I’m Andy’s carer now – but I’m also still his partner
As I am only 44 and Andy is 52, we still work daily – me in 12 hour hospice shifts, and Andy as a school sports technician. After work, I manage, cooking, cleaning and finances so I feel there is a lot more pressure on me now
I want Andy to maintain his independence, but dementia has impacted our everyday lives. He gets lost if he goes out on his own, so we’ve had to put a tracker on his phone. Andy struggles more with cooking, and I’m worried the house will burn down if I’m out. He sleepwalks so I am up a lot in the night to keep him safe. I’m constantly worried about him.
When Andy was diagnosed, we received no support. I had to educate myself about dementia and felt very alone. I had to help Andy process his emotions following the diagnosis. He never expected to be told he had dementia, so we both felt very lost and didn’t know where to turn for support.
We discovered Dementia UK and speaking with Admiral Nurse Helen made a huge difference. She provided clear insights into how dementia affects Andy’s brain, helping us process the diagnosis, with reassurance to continue enjoying life. Since then, we’ve participated in challenge events, swam in our local lake, and have signed up for marathons. We’ve learned that, with adjustments, we can live well with dementia, it’s now part of our life.”
For help or to speak to an Admiral Nurse call: 0800 888 6678 or email helpline@dementiauk.org
