WELCOME E TO HEXHAM

We are pleased to be racing again today following our winter break and we extend a warm welcome to all Sponsors, Owners, Trainers and Racegoers in attendance today.
Having been successful in our bid with the BHA we received an extra fixture this year allowing us 15 days racing with the additional fixture taking place on Wednesday Evening 27th August being sponsored by “Sky Sports Racing”
Today’s feature race is off at 3.02pm the “BK Racing Hexham Marathon” Steeple Chase run over 4 miles. We are extremely grateful to BK Racing sponsors of this race and would draw your attention to the offer of a £2.00 free betting voucher in the race card

Thanks also go to “Major Family Law” first time sponsors who are here today enjoying the company’s 16th anniversary, along with Brocks Bushes Farm Shop, and Kerry Kirkham celebrating her 40th Birthday.
Hospitality in both the Henderson and Curlew Rooms are proving to be very popular this year and I would urge anyone considering booking to do so as some race days are already completely sold out.
Whether you are visiting for a first time or a regular at the course we hope you have an enjoyable and successful day and look forward to welcoming you back in the future
Robert Whitelock Racecourse Manager.

BET TING WITH THE BOOKMAKERS
DIFFERENT WAYS TO BET - WIN OR EACH-WAY
The two main types of bet are win and each-way. For win bets, your horse needs to win the race outright An each-way bet is effectively two bets – one for your horse to win and one for it to be placed. So a £2 each-way bet will cost £4 A bookmaker taking each-way bets will display the terms on which they accept such bets on their board. In conjunction with The RCA, the bookmakers have introduced standard each-way terms. Bookmakers will provide these terms, or better, when offering each-way betting.
• Fewer than 3 runners - Win bets only, no places offered
• 3 or 4 runners – Win bets only Where a bookmaker wishes to depart from this default position they may offer place terms at 1/5 odds a place 1-2.
• 5 – 7 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2
• 8 or more runners – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 12 to 15 runners (inclusive) – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3
• Handicaps with 16 to 21 runners (inclusive) – 1/5 odds a place 1-2-3-4
• Handicaps with 22 or more runners – 1/4 odds a place 1-2-3-4
PLACING YOUR BET
Shop around for the best odds When you have decided where to place your bet, state the number of your horse and the stake, for example “Number 4, £2 win” Listen to the bookmaker repeat the number of the horse and the stake to their clerk and hand them your money. You will then be given an itemised receipt detailing your bet and potential winnings. You should keep this safe until you have heard ‘Weighedin’ announced after the race If your bet is successful, hand your ticket to the bookmaker and they will give you your winnings

The biggest field ever assembled in this contest and it’s every bit as competitive as you would expect SIXANDAHALF developed into a useful stayer on the Flat last season and continued that progression over hurdles when routing some decent horses at Fairyhouse in January Smart French bumper winner Karoline Banbou could hardly have been more impressive when shedding her maiden tag last month and remains completely unexposed, while Jubilee Alpha is a serious contender for the home team.

An ordinary maiden and a decent opportunity for BENMORE if he can put it all together in first-time cheekpieces. Famous Liss went close in novice company last year and has a chance if bouncing back from his latest run, while Nathan Wells and Jungle Jet should both be monitored for support on their respective stable debuts.

FIREFOX has lots of good efforts to his name at Graded level over hurdles and fences and can make his class tell now moving into his first handicap. Asian Master and Nurburgring are other Irish-trained runners who brings obvious potential to their handicap chase debuts, while Springwell Bay is one who carries solid handicap form having won a hot race here on New Year’s Day

FEET OF A DANCER shaped well on her first try at this trip when third at Leopardstown in December and has a very similar profile to that of Mrs Milner who went on to win this race for the yard in 2021, having also made the frame in the same qualifier, so she is an appealing candidate, not least given her good record when fresh. Win Some Lose Some is proving most progressive and has to be shortlisted, with Jerijo du Reponet and D Art D Art others to note.

BREEZE OF WIND stayed on well to score at Ayr 17 days ago, his fifth career success, and he is taken to make it back-to-back wins in this race as he returns to 4m. PLAY SMARTER
Previous winners have an excellent record in this and last year’s decisive victor TEAHUPOO looks the one to beat again having followed the same route (kept fresh for this). Home By The Lee was a good third last year and arrives in better form this time around, so rates the main threat Lucky Place and The Wallpark are also respected given their rate of progress.

Stewards Note:
GINNY’S DESTINY: Following its run on 25/1/2025 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run.
IL RIDOTO: Following its run on 25/1/2025 it was reported that the horse would prefer a quicker surface.
Probable S.P’s: 5-1 Jagwar (FR), 8-1 Thecompanysergeant (GB), 10-1 Masaccio (IRE), 12-1 Ginny’s Destiny (IRE), 14-1 An Peann Dearg (IRE), 16-1 Jordans (FR), Path d’Oroux (FR), 18-1 Fugitif (FR), 22-1 Gemirande (FR), 25-1 Shakem Up’arry (IRE), Personal Ambition (IRE), 28-1 Il Ridoto (FR), Seddon (IRE), Riaan (IRE), 33-1 Conflated (IRE), La Malmason (IRE), Demnat (FR), 40-1 Tahmuras (FR), 66-1 Individualiste (FR), 100-1 Mars Harper (GB)
JAGWAR won what is traditionally a very strong C&D novice handicap in January and a 7lb rise doesn’t look enough to stop him up against largely older and more exposed opposition. Thecompanysergeant started out for Gavin Cromwell with a good third over hurdles and could have more to offer for his good new stable so he’s second choice. Masaccio ran well for third behind the selection here last time and also makes the shortlist along with Path D’Oroux and last year’s winner Shakem Up’arry.

It’s been uphill all the way for THE BIG BREAC since venturing down the handicap route and a 6lb rise for the latest of his back-to-back Wetherby wins may not be eugh to prevent him from completing the hat-trick. Star Vantage has been knocking on the door of late and should be in the mix once again, while Zwicky also arrives here in good order and is likely to give another good account.

Hexham Racecourse employs veterinary surgeons whose sole responsibility it is to provide care to the horses throughout their time at the racecourse
In the event of an incident on the racecourse, any horse affected will receive immediate treatment from the Racecourse’s Veterinary team.
Qualified Paramedics and Doctors are also on hand in the case of any incident involving a jockey.
