MONDAY 23 SEPT 2024
WELCOME
A very warm welcome to you all for our Indigo Unified Comms Raceday, our penultimate fixture of what has been a fantastic 2024 season so far here at Hamilton Park.
My thanks go to all of today’s sponsors – Indigo Unified Comms, who are today’s title sponsors, the European Breeders Fund, St Andrews First Aid, Ecosave Installations Ltd and our very own Hampton by Hilton Hamilton Park hotel for their support of today’s racing. Your sponsorship is very much appreciated and enables us to be able to offer the levels of prize money available this season as well as invest in the overall development of the racecourse. I hope you and all our racegoers have a memorable day with us.
Today we remember our long-serving Racecourse and Hotel Chairman, Sir Ian Good, who sadly passed away last October Sir Ian had been on the Board at Hamilton Park for more than 30 years and he made an immeasurable contribution not only to Hamilton Park but also to Scottish Racing and the racing industry as a whole The whole team at Hamilton Park are pleased to welcome Lady Irene, his daughters Fiona and Catriona, along with family and friends as we remember Sir Ian and his legacy this afternoon.
The Class 4 Sir Ian Good Memorial Handicap is our feature race of the day over 1m 4f and has a competitive field which includes four course and distance winners. At the top of the weights is the 2022 Lanark Silver Bell winner Wickywickywheels for reigning Champion Owner Jimmy Long who I’m sure will be hoping for a strong performance today Jim Goldie is double-handed in the race with Spanish Hustle and Tafsir, who each hold wins at Hamilton Park this year whilst the Roger Varian-trained Spectacular Style picked up his novice victory here last September I wish all of today’s runners and rider the very best of luck.
Our final fixture of the season is nearly upon us, with the Maggie’s Goes Racing September Weekend Family Raceday on holiday Monday 30 September. We have a great afternoon of racing lined up as we crown the season’s Champion Owner, Trainer, Jockey and Horse We’ll also have our usual array of FREE kids’ entertainment and as always under 18’s get FREE admission, making this the perfect day out for the whole family this September weekend. Tickets are available at www.hamilton-park.co.uk so I do hope to see you all one more time this season!
Have a great day and I hope you back a few winners.
Kind regards,
ASHLEY MOON, RACECOURSE MANAGING DIRECTOR

ONE MILE about 68 YARDS (8f abt 68yds) (1600m)
RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a one mile and 68 yards apprentice handicap race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 46 to 55. In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far. The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than a lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 40 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 130.

THE ECOSAVE INSTALLATIONS LTD NURSERY HANDICAP STAKES (CLASS 4)
RACE DESCRIPTION
A nursery is a handicap that is restricted to two-year-olds only In order to be allowed to take part, entrants must have already run in three maiden or novice races, or have won two races, which then qualifies them for an official handicap rating based on what they have achieved so far. Quite simply, the higher their rating, the bigger the weight they have to carry. This particular five furlongs race is for horses which have been rated from 0 to 85.

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a five furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 56 to 75. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed. A below-par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased. Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 6lb

RACE DESCRIPTION
This is a six furlongs handicap race for three-year-olds which have been rated from 51 to 70. Like most handicaps on the flat this race is also open to horses that are rated below that particular band. However, all handicaps stipulate a minimum weight and no runner can carry less than that, irrespective of how low their rating is. This is often described as ‘running from out of the handicap’ and is considered a disadvantage

Trainer-in-form (last 14 days): D & N Barron (4 wins from 17 runners, 24%) runs GENTLE ELLEN
Weightwatcher: RAIN CAP won off a handicap mark of 56, his rating is now down 7lb to 49.
Longest Traveller: MANY A YEAR trained by J Butler, Newmarket, 360 miles.
BETTING FORECAST: 5-1 Gentle Ellen (IRE), Havana Pursuit (GB), Rain Cap (GB), 11-2 Many A Year (IRE), Angel Amadea (GB), 7-1 Rosenpur (GER), 10-1 Majestic Newlaw (GB)
RACE SUMMARY: MANY A YEAR hinted at a revival when a recent fourth at Wolverhampton so gets the vote off a reduced mark.
C&D scorer Gentle Ellen is another who figures on an attractive mark so she could emerge as the chief threat if back on song. Rosenpur should prove suited by dropping back in trip and also commands respect in this very open sprint.
