Leicester Racecard - Saturday 28th December

Page 1

Welcome to our Post Christmas Silver Fox Jumps meeting.

We have 6 races today on an ALL-CHASE CARD commencing at 12.15pm and culminating at 3.10pm We have 4 qualified first-aiders on-site for your safety and food and drink outlets situated by the Premier Bar and within the Betting Hall. We are particularly pleased to have some of the greats from the Leicester Tigers here, known as the Sabretooth Tigers including Leon Lloyd, Darren Garforth, Dusty Hare and Geordan Murphy along with their families. In the pre -professional days the Tigers traditionally played against the Barbarians at this time of year and some of todays ‘s visitors will have played in those matches which were very much a part of the County’s Christmas festivities. In rugby terms, the Tigers used to park the bus to prevent the free flowing rugby of the Barbarians and today they have brought the Sabretooth Tigers Bus to the Racecourse for everyone to see. We hope this may be an annual Sabre tooth Family Day. We of course wish the Tigers well in their game against Harlequins this evening

Important points to note today are:

Public bars and food stands will close today immediately following the final race and the racecourse will close shortly after Please take a look at the racecourse map within your racecard to familiarise yourself with our facilities and in particular, the location of our first aid unit

Respectfully, for our Owners and Trainers we have provided the Club Room for your meal plus The First Floor Boxes, Pavilion and the Club Terrace. Annual badge holders have full access to the Paddock Pavilion plus the viewing terrace.

Please be aware that we are now cashless on all bar and food outlets accepting only debit or credit cards and be assured that turnstiles and betting facilities will continue to accept cash for the time being.

For those customers who either forget their cards or do not possess a debit card or credit card, we have special vouchers within the main office where you will be able to exchange your cash for vouchers and should you not spend your vouchers on the day you will be able to exchange them back for cash before you leave (up to 30 minutes after the last race), or use them on a future meeting. Today this outlet is situated at the Main Office.

We also have lots of Children’s Entertainment around the picnic area along with our special guests from Comic Con Deadpool, Stormtrooper and Kylo Ren.

REMEMBER TO SAVE THE DATE OF SAT 5th JULY 2025 FOR LADIES DAY. ACTS TO FOLLOW SHORTLY. HAVE A GREAT DAY, THANK YOU FOR SUPPORTING US in 2024 AND WE HOPE TO SEE YOU AGAIN FOR THE NEXT MEETING WHICH IS ON TUESDAY 7TH JANUARY 2025 and a Happy New Year to you all!! The Racecourse Team

Official BHA Rating

Each horse has been given a star rating, these are defined below:

★★★★★ Selected to win the race.

★★★★✩ Good chance of being placed.

★★★✩✩ By no means out of the reckoning but at least one or two hold stronger claims

★★✩✩✩ Unlikely to win but not totally without hope

★✩✩✩✩ Can be given little or no chance

Official BHA Ratings

The BHA Handicappers allot ratings to horses once they have taken part in a sufficient number of races to enable the Handicappers to make a numerical assessment of each horse’s ability. The principal purpose of the ratings is to determine the weight to be carried by each runner in handicap races, with the Handicappers aiming to provide each participant with an equal chance based on its best recent form under its optimum conditions A horse rated 100, for example, would be set to carry 1lb more than a horse rated 99 (ignoring any penalties or allowances). The ratings published in the racecard for handicap races are the ratings that were used to calculate the weight to be carried by each horse, whilst in non-handicaps races the rating shown is that of each runner at the time that the entries for the race were confirmed. Any subsequently published change to a rating, either up or down, is shown in brackets following the rating.

Our easy guide to getting the most from your racecard. Our new racecard key identifies the main runner and rider elements: You must be 18 or over to place a bet

You may be asked to provide proof of your age when placing a bet. If you cannot produce this, your bet will not be accepted.

Horse Welfare at Leicester Racecourse

At every meeting at Leicester Racecourse there are two specially-qualified equine vets appointed to look after the welfare of all horses in action. During the race one vet will be following the runners and can attend to a horse in the same response time as the Paramedic Teams responsible for treating injured jockeys The second vet is based below the stewards box in the grandstand, is in radio contact with his colleague following the runners, and can respond immediately to any uncovered emergency. In addition there is a third vet, a British Horseracing Authority Veterinary team and the stewards

The Racecourse also employs a specialist Horse Ambulance Team, equipped with a modern equine ambulance to enable injured horses to be transported safely to a veterinary hospital for treatment. It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the course This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet some privacy in which to administer treatment and provides the horse with a calm environment in which to make a recovery. Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erected around a fallen horse

Leicester Racecourse has significantly enhanced Safety & Security measures this year to ensure your safety, comfort and enjoyment of the day. However, an incident may occur which is beyond our control and it is important that you are aware of how we intend to look after you in the event of an emergency. As part of our Safety management, we have employed professionally trained and experienced stewards and you will see them at various points throughout the racecourse In the event of a situation, which requires partial or full evacuation of the stands or racecourse, announcements will be broadcast and stewards will undertake the responsibility of guiding you to a place of safety; it is essential that you follow their instructions Please take your immediate belongings with you and proceed out of the area quickly and calmly with the guidance of the stewards The evacuation procedures have been carefully planned to lead you to a safe area. Should it be necessary to evacuate the course itself, there will be two main options; firstly to return to your vehicles if safe to do so and leave via the main entrance Secondly, should it not be safe to return to your vehicles, you will be requested to leave via an emergency evacuation gate, where you will receive further instructions It may give you peace of mind if you pre plan and agree a meeting place, just in case you become separated from your party. The above is precautionary only and we trust that the procedures will never be required.
