4.05 THE

NEVER ORDINARY AT BET365 HANDICAP HURDLE RACE

This two mile hurdle race is for novices’. It is restricted to horses aged four-years-old and upwards which have not previously won more than three hurdle races. Initially, the weights are set according to sex with fillies and mares carrying 7lb less than their male rivals

This is a two mile and four and a half furlong handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards In a handicap the weight that each of the runners carries is determined by their official handicap rating which is based on their level of form shown so far The aim is to ensure competitive racing by asking the higher rated horses to carry more weight than lower rated rival. As a guide, horses rated 60 tend to be at the lower end of the scale whilst the very best performers would be rated as high as 170.

This is a three mile and seven and a half furlongs handicap steeple chase for five-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 150. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 135 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 130.

This is a three mile handicap hurdle race for five-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 145. Once a horse has qualified for a handicap rating this is regularly reassessed A below par effort could result in a reduced rating whilst a strong performance could see the rating increased Occasionally, horses are entered to race before their handicap rating has been reviewed and so to avoid recent winners being un-penalised they are allotted a mandatory penalty – usually 7lb

This two mile handicap steeple chase has been designed for five-year-olds and upwards which are rated from 0 to 125. In most National Hunt handicaps, there is a minimum weight of 10st 2lb so any horse whose official rating would allocate them less than that still has to shoulder that burden The horses that fall into this category are said to be racing from ‘out of the handicap’ – usually a distinct disadvantage

This is a three mile handicap hurdle race for four-year-olds and upwards which have been rated from 0 to 110. To qualify for a handicap rating horses must have won a race, been placed twice or raced at least three times in order for the handicapper to gauge the level of form shown. This rating then dictates the weight to be carried in a handicap In simple terms a horse rated 110 in this particular race would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 105.

4.34 THE EACH

WAY EXTRA AT BET365 HANDICAP HURDLE RACE

The final race this afternoon is a two miles and four furlongs handicap hurdle race for four-year-old and upwards which have been officially rated 0-115. As is all handicaps on this afternoon’s card the weight that each runner carries is determined by their official handicap rating. In this instance, a horse rated 100 would be required to carry 5lb more than a rival rated 95

2. You can play with Tote at one of the many betting stations around the racecourse, Tote offers pool betting rather than ‘prices’ or ‘odds’ offered in the betting ring. The Tote Guarantee you can be safe in the knowledge that they’ll never pay less than the price the horse wins at, and if the pool payout is bigger, you’ll get that.

3. Place bets from the comfort of your seat by visiting Tote.co.uk, the Tote Guarantee still applies and all new customer receive a welcome offer

The bet365 Frodon Novices' Chase

Did you know?

The bet365 Scottish Supreme Novices' Hurdle

The Pertemps Network Group Handicap Hurdle Race

Won by multiple Grade 1 winner Frodon himself in 2017 as the launchpad to a stellar career. Divers won in 2011 before following up at Cheltenham. Douglas Talking, 2022 winner, went on to be runner up in a Class 1 at Aintree.

The bet365 Edinburgh National

Wise Eagle is declared for this year’s race - he was the winner of our richest flat race (the £100,000 Queen’s Cup) in 2023, before going on to win his first jumps race at Musselburgh back in November. Tommy’s Oscar, runner-up in 2021, has won six races since, including in Grade 2 company. 4th placed Third Time Lucki has since become a Grade 2 winner over fences & 6th Belfast Banter won the 2021 County Hurdle at Cheltenham, followed by a Grade 1 at Aintree. 2015 winner Some Plan won the Grade 1 Irish Arkle two years later.

Seddon, runner in 2022, went on to win a Class 1 at the Cheltenham Festival in 2023. Brandy McQueen, 2023 winner, went on to run well in the Pertemps Final at Cheltenham. The winner of the final, Good Time Jonny, also won at Musselburgh in January 2020.

Winner from 2021 Mighty Thunder close second in Midlands National before winning Scottish Grand National. Missed Approach, 2nd in 2018, won Kim Muir at Cheltenham same year. 2023 winner Magna Sam went on to place in the Scottish Grand National, while runner up Captain Cattistock won a Class 2 at Cheltenham in April.

Frodon is now happily retired on Dartmoor, being looked after by his regular race winning jockey Bryony Frost. “His days now will be filled with joining Black Corton, carefree, galloping across the moor, beach rides, all you can eat haynet and whatever he finds fun!”

It is now standard practice for screens to be erected around any horse receiving veterinary attention on the ground This does not reflect on the severity of an injury, but allows the vet so privacy and the horse the opportunity, in a calm environment, to ma a recovery Please do not assume the worst if you see screens erec around a fallen horse.
