‘Each-way’ is for your horse to come first or to be placed. It’s two bets, so ‘£2 each-way’ = £4 total bet.

Decide the amount – or stake – you are comfortable to bet.

Place your bet. There are different places to bet on course; The Tote, racecourse bookmakers, betting shop or online. Each option offers a different experience.

Collect. Once ‘Weighed-in’ has been announced, present your betting slip and collect any winnings.

As title sponsor of today’s fixture it gives me great pleasure to welcome you to the Rowley Mile for what promises to be an excellent afternoon of racing. The feature races on this today’s programme will evoke memories for many of some of the outstanding winners of the past. Some of them are remembered in features elsewhere in this racecard and I hope you will enjoy reading them and reliving those special moments as much as I did.

As an international racehorse owner and a passionate supporter of horseracing for many years, Newmarket has long held a special place in my affections and I congratulate the racecourse team on the high standards they maintain at the headquarters of British racing.

I am delighted to be able to offer the support of Al Basti Equiworld, the Middle East’s leading distributor of horse feeds, bedding and supplements, to today’s programme and wish the very best to connections of all today’s runners

I hope they and you have a pleasant and enjoyable afternoon.

SIRONA gave best only to a similarly rejuvenated type when runner-up in Listed company at Longchamp (1m) 26 days ago and the balance ofthis season’s efforts give her sound claims kept to this level. Spiritual holds sound claims on these terms and she’s feared, whilst another 3-y-o, Rolica, likely has a bigger effort in her locker

PRINCESSROYALALBASTI

EQUIWORLD,DUBAISTAKES (GROUP3)

The current contest known as the Princess Royal Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Stakes was first staged at Newmarket in 2007. Since its introduction, there has been one dual winner of the mile and a half race for fillies and mares in JOURNEY (2015, 2016).

Homebred by her owner George Strawbridge and trained in Newmarket by John Gosden, Journey won six of her 17 career starts. For her Princess Royal success in 2015, she scored impressively by eight lengths under Robert Havlin.

In the 2016 renewal, Frankie Dettori took the mount and the daughter of Dubawi was the easy winner once again. Journey’s second Princess Royal victory was followed by the biggest win of her career in the Group One QIPCO British Champions Fillies & Mares Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot.

This performance makes Journey officially the best winner of the Princess Royal Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Stakes.

ALBASTIEQUIWORLD, DUBAIROCKFELSTAKES

(GROUP2)

Since its inaugural running in 1981, a total of four fillies have won the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Rockfel Stakes and returned to the Rowley Mile the following spring to win the 1000 Guineas – Musical Bliss (1988), Lahan (1999), Speciosa (2005) and Finsceal Beo (2006).

Of this quartet FINSCEAL BEO is officially the best winner of the seven-furlong contest. Trained in Ireland by Jim Bolger for her owner Michael Ryan, Finsceal Beo was a Group One winner at two and three years of age.

Her Rockfel Stakes victory in 2006 was preceded by success in the Group One Prix Marcel Boussac at Longchamp in France. In the spring of 2007, she achieved a notable and rare double when landing both the 1000 Guineas at Newmarket and the Irish equivalent at the Curragh. Only four fillies in history have won the two Classics.

Since being retired to stud, the daughter of Mr Greeley has produced a number of winners, including Group Two scorer Ol’ Man River.

AL BASTI EQUIWORLD, DUBAI JOEL STAKES

Today’s feature contest, the Group Two Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes, was established in 1987. It was initially called the Main Reef Stakes and staged over 10 furlongs for three-year-olds. It was reduced in distance from 10 furlongs to a mile in 1989 and in the same year was opened up to older horses.

In 1994 it was renamed the Joel Stakes in honour of the late Jim Joel (1894-1992), one of the great owner-breeders of the 20th century and one of only four people to have owned the winner of Britain’s two most famous races - the Derby (Royal Palace, 1967) and Grand National (Maori Venture, 1987).

A Listed race from 1991, it was upgraded to Group Three status in 2003 and further elevated to Group Two level in 2011

The Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes has had two dual winners during its history – Mutasaabeq (2022, 2023) and Benbatl (2019, 2021)

Oisin Murphy is the most successful jockey with four wins courtesy of Beat The Bank (2017), Benbatl (2019,2021) and Kameko (2020)

Among trainers, Sir Michael Stoute and Saeed bin Suroor share top honours with a quartet of winners each Stoute struck gold with Sabotage (1989), Rob Roy (2005), Confront (2009) and Mustashry (2018), while bin Suroor’s winners were Satchem (2006), Creachadoir (2007) and Benbatl (2019, 2021)

ALBASTIEQUIWORLD, DUBAIJOELSTAKES (GROUP2)

Equiworld, Dubai Joel Stakes has had two dual winners during its history – Mutasaabeq (2022, 2023) and BENBATL (2019, 2021).

It is Benbatl who ranks as the highest-rated winner of the contest with a career-high mark of 126 following his first Joel Stakes success.

A winner of 11 of his 25 starts, Godolphin’s homebred son of Dubawi was a supremely tough and courageous performer who won Group One contests in three countries – the Dubai Turf (Meydan, UAE), the Grosser Dallmayr Preis (Munich, Germany) and Ladbrokes Stakes (Caulfield, Australia).

It was also in Australia that Benbatl ran one of his greatest races in defeat when the two lengths runner-up to the mighty mare Winx in the 2018 Group One Cox Plate at Moonee Valley.

Benbatl is now a stallion shuttling between Japan and Australia.

An interesting race inwhichthe market could prove informative, particularlyregarding the Godolphin newcomers. SEAPLANE shaped well when second at Ascot recently and gets the nod with further progress likely Frankini wasn’t too far behind the selection at Ascot and is second choice ahead of Archivist before any betting clues are known.

DECLARED RUNNERS 14 2023: REAL GAIN (IRE) 3 9 10 Finley Marsh 11-4 (Richard Hughes) 8 ran Visor worn by No 6. Running for the first time since Gelding No 7. Stewards Note:

BATTLE QUEEN: Following its run on 23/8/2024 it was reported that the trainer could not explain the poor run. BEYLERBEYI: Following its run on 7/9/2024 it was reported that the horse reared and was slowly away

Probable S.P’s: 11-2 More Thunder (IRE), 8-1 Westridge (FR), 9-1 Shamran (GB), 10-1 Civil Law (IRE), Magnum Opus (IRE), 12-1 Gloucestershire (USA), Battle Queen (IRE), 14-1 Siempre Arturo (GB), Monkey Island (GB), 18-1 Zozimus (IRE), 20-1 Mortlake (IRE), First Officer (IRE), 33-1 Sweet Reward (IRE), 40-1 Beylerbeyi (GB)

Chances can be given to plenty, but the suggestion is MAGNUM OPUS, who shaped as if still in good form when fifth at Doncaster just under a fortnight ago and Simon & Ed Crisford’s 3-y-o likely has a bigger effort in his locker More Thunder progressed another chunk when runner-up at Chester a couple of months ago, so he can provide most resistance to the selection, with Westridge and Gloucestershire another couple worth considering, too.
