If you’re looking for world-class Jump racing with a big splash of festive cheer then look no further than Betfair Tingle Creek Saturday!

Sandown Park comes alive with festive cheer as we bring gift giving, carol singing, decorations and, of course, world-class Grade 1 Jump racing to Esher.

On the track you can look forward to two Grade 1s - the feature race of the meeting, Betfair Tingle Creek Chase and also the Henry VIII Novice Chase. Can anyone de-throne the mighty Jonbon this year or will he add to his long list of Sandown Park Grade 1 wins.

SANDOWN PARK 2024 IN REVIEW

As 2024 draws to a close at Sandown Park with the Betfair Tingle Creek Festival, it is a good time to reflect on another outstanding year on the track.

The Jump season reaches its conclusion on bet365 Jump Finale at Sandown Park in April and there was an extra sense of excitement this year with the trainers’ championship going right down to the wire with Dan Skelton and Ireland’s Willie Mullins battling it out. The results went the right way for Willie Mullins, including a first success for the stable in the feature bet365 Gold Cup courtesy of Minella Cocooner, meaning that the master of Closutton became the first Irish-based trainer to bag the UK Jump trainers’ championship since the great Vincent O’Brien some 70 years earlier Mullins did endure one setback on the day when his hot favourite El Fabiolo was upset by Jonbon in the Grade One bet365 Celebration Chase. Jonbon, who won the 2023 Grade One Betfair Tingle Creek Chase earlier in the season, is unbeaten in four outings at Sandown Park.

Bet365 Jump Finale was also very memorable for Harry Cobden, as he was crowned champion Jump jockey for the first time. The now 26-year-old fought out the final weeks of the season against Sean Bowen, eventually coming out on top by a margin of seven winners.

Sandown Park’s Flat season had begun the preceding day on April 26th, when the best performance on track was that of Charyn in the Group Two bet365 Mile. Trained in Newmarket by Roger Varian for owner Nurlan Bizakov, the four-year-old grey went on to enjoy Group One victories in the Queen Anne Stakes at Royal Ascot, the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville and Queen Elizabeth II Stakes on QIPCO British Champions Day at Ascot He ended the year by being crowned champion Older Horse at the prestigious Cartier Racing Awards.

The highlight of the Flat season at Sandown Park is of course the Group One Coral-Eclipse and this year’s renewal of the 10-furlong contest was a memorable one, with the honours going to the great City Of Troy The outstanding juvenile colt of 2023, the son of Justify, was surprisingly defeated on his return to action in the QIPCO 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but left that performance well behind him when the emphatic winner of the Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs.

At Sandown Park, the Coolmore-owned City Of Troy took on older opposition for the first time and although perhaps unsuited by the Soft ground he still came out on top by a length under Ryan Moore to hand trainer Aidan O’Brien a record-extending eighth Coral-Eclipse victory Further Group One success came for City Of Troy in the Juddmonte International at York and he was named Horse of the Year at the Cartier Racing Awards.

Sandown Park Supporting Lower Green Community Centre: The Tingle Creek Gifting Scheme

Sandown Park are once again offering racegoers the chance to contribute gifts for children and families supported by our local community partner, Lower Green Community Centre, as part of our ever-popular Tingle Creek Gifting Scheme.

The Centre is situated just shy of 2 miles from Sandown Park racecourse and is dedicated to supporting the local community, especially children and families. The Centre serves not only as a community support hub but operates a Community Café, a Community Fridge, Foodstore and hosts various activities on site throughout the year

Introduced two years ago, the Gifting Scheme has received overwhelming support from generous visitors to the racecourse throughout the Betfair Tingle Creek Festival. Racegoers are encouraged to bring gift-cards and gifts which will be distributed throughout the local community this Christmas, turning another challenging year into a memorable one.

Items such as £10 gift-cards for local retailers, children’s games, footballs or sports accessories, thermal clothing, Christmas toiletry sets, children’s nightwear and slippers, arts and crafts or festive treats such as Christmas selection boxes.

Jenny French, Lower Green Community Centre Community Projects Manager, said: “We are very grateful to Sandown Park for running this scheme to support local families for whom Christmas can be a challenging time of year By donating gifts and gift cards racegoers can help us bring some Christmas cheer to lots of families in Lower Green this Christmas. A huge thank you to everyone involved.”

Donation points are available at the arrival desk in the main foyer of the Grandstand as well as in reception areas of local business, Keltbray, enabling racegoers and residents to contribute their gifts upon arrival or in the week afterwards.

If you’d like to donate a gift after your visit with us today, we will still be accepting donations until Wednesday 11th December in our Main Foyer.
