Concept Montreal is a city with histor y and fashion, formal and informal and with old and new. Sometimes people see the historical street with the history of hundreds of years but sometimes the most fashionable things catches your eyes. I want to bring this city texture into the hotel. I feel that there are two attributes in the city— ‘static’ which means the history and antiquity and ‘dynamic’ which means the fashion and avant-garde. The design language abstracted from the architecture in the city itself. Static includes symmetry, order and verticality from the historical classical architecture while the dynamic includes movement and asymmetry from modern architecture.

Concept

Inspiration

elf is a ver y successful online cosmetic products seller. This time, I’m going to design a brick-and-motar store for the brand. In the store, selling is not the only thing but the experience as well. An exhibition area, bar, salon and beauty lab will be added in since I want to design a space where customer can touch, smell, try the product and even have a seat here during the leisure time. The most obvious feature of elf is the “ play beautifully box” plan, which means elf will send gift boxes including the most current products to their customer. I choose “Box” as my concept and putted different experiences in different boxes. To attract people getting in, I designed the interior in a really quiet and minimal way to show up the products and to have the contrast to its traditional outside space.buildings around.

Third Floor-Library

When I think about the ways and processes of making animation, I was inspired by motion graphic and photography. My design language is layering and framing. Layering--the flipbook create a movement by layering many different motion graphics. Framing—the camera create appropriate scenes by framing specific shots.

REI Store Design Location: Manhattan, NY

Fall 2015

REI is an American corporation selling outdoor recreation gear, sporting goods and clothing. Its mission is to get people outside, to inspire people for worldwide outdoors. Outdoors make me think of traveling and that makes me think of the airplane, world map and earth. I was inspired by Latitude & Longitute on the world map. I want to design a space where my customer can feel outdoor and green and a space where people can explore.

I decided to break down the wall around the building using zigzag lines inspired from the logo to strengthen the brand show off the sailing space to attract customers.

Chinese Dining Chair Location: Manhattan, NY

Spring 2016

Concept This is a dining chair design. I was inspired by the ancient Chinese chair from Ming dynasty. It is very elegant. I tried to design it in a new way to simplify it. Since it is a knock down chair for IKEA, the structure of this chair should be simple and easy to be understood by customers. I decided to keep its most important feature and discard useless ornament.
