TE TUHI: UNSTUCK IN TIME Unstuck in Time is a multi-format exhibition comprising three parts: a group show, a series of process-led commissions and a publication project. Featuring a total of 21 New Zealand and international artists, the exhibition borrows its title from Kurt Vonnegut’s 1969 sci-fi novel Slaughterhouse-Five and presents differing interpretations of the concept of time. The exhibition has been organised in collaboration with Phil Dadson, Andrew Kennedy, James McCarthy and supported in part by The Office for Contemporary Art Norway and Creative New Zealand. Included in the loan are several large works on canvas as well as works on paper and personal archival material. An exhibition is planned to exhibit these works alongside works from the Dunedin collection. D.A.N.C.E. ART CLUB, WELCOME: ARTSPACE Curated by Ahilapalapa Rands, the exhibition Welcome, by D.A.N.C.E. Art Club, presents six projects offering new strategies for determining meaning, understanding and storytelling. Rands said “a strategy called the ‘triangulation of meaning’ to frame some conversations around the artists and their work” is central to the exhibition. Previously, the art club has presented participatory events and exhibitions, both within a
gallery and in public, as well as on a community radio station. As part of the exhibition, an attempt will be made to break the Guinness World Record for Longest Marathon DJ performance. AMBITIOUS PUBLIC SCULPTURES BY INTERNATIONAL ARTISTS PLANNED FOR SYDNEY A public sculpture by Tracey Emin has been given the go-ahead as part of a multimillion dollar scheme to inject public art throughout the streets of Sydney. The work, which was selected from a pool of 700 submissions from 25 countries, is titled The Distance of Your Heart and will consist of 60 bronze birds perched on 13-foot poles throughout the city. A submission by Tokyo-based architect and artist Junya Ishigami was also selected, as was a plan by Hany Armanious to build a giant 45-foot facsimile of a blue milk crate. 8

An archive of approximately 500 films made by Andy Warhol between 1963 and 1972 is being digitised as a result of a new partnership between the Museum of Modern Art and the Andy Warhol Museum. With assistance from visual effects firm MPC, nearly 1,000 spools of 16 mm film will be scanned and converted to 2k resolution, the dominant standard in the movie projection industry. Because of their precarious condition, a significant proportion of these films has previously been inaccessible, even to Warhol scholars. The process is expected to take several years to complete.
GUERCINO PAINTING WORTH £5 MILLION STOLEN FROM ITALIAN CHURCH A masterpiece (right) by Giovanni Francesco Barbieri, better known as Guercino, has been stolen from the Basilica di San Vincenzo in the northern town of Modena, Italy. The oil painting, which was completed in 1639, measures approximately 300 cm by 180 cm and depicts the Madonna with St John the Evangelist. According to Monsignor Giacomo Morandi, the archbishop of Modena, the church had an alarm installed, but it was inactive at the time due to a lack of funds.

ANNOUNCEMENT OF ARTISTIC DIRECTOR OF 2016 BIENNALE OF SYDNEY Stephanie Rosenthal (left), the chief curator of London’s Hayward Gallery, has been announced as the next artistic director of the 2016 Biennale of Sydney. Of the appointment, Rosenthal said, “It is a true pleasure and honour to take on the role of artistic director for 2016. Being one of the oldest biennales, it is an ideal opportunity to assess what such an event could and should do in a location like Sydney, where so many different cultures and languages come together”. Rosenthal will formally commence her appointment in November.
DALE FRANK GIFTS WORKS TO THE NATIONAL GALLERY OF AUSTRALIA A collection of 85 works, valued at approximately $4,000,000, which span the last 32 years of Dale Frank’s career, has been donated by the Australian artist to Canberra’s National Gallery of Australia. Ranging from early drawings to mixed-media collages and largescale abstract paintings, Frank’s gift constitutes the most significant gift to the National Gallery of Australia since Arthur Boyd’s gift of works in 1975. In order to make sure that they constitute
an extensive representation of Frank’s career to date, the body of works was selected as a result of a series of curatorial discussions. “A major gift of this kind really, in a way, is a tremendous act of generosity from Dale to us, but it’s also a recognition of his standing in Australian art and how highly we regard him”, commented senior curator of Australian Painting and Sculpture, Deborah Hart.

IN REVIEW: A REPORT ON THE JULY SALE OF
Important Paintings & Contemporary Art 12
CATALOGUE 388
WEBB’S
Bill Hammond, GST, achieved $36,347.50
Our July sale of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art elicited extremely heavy bidding across a number of lots, punctuating the midpoint of New Zealand’s auction calendar with a sales total in excess of $1.6 million – the highest of any art auction during the winter season – galvanising Webb’s position as New Zealand’s leading auction house.
Colin McCahon, Rosegarden VI, achieved $149,493
As with our March auction, which saw Webbs’s generate a sale price of $412,700 for Colin McCahon’s Kauri Trees, Titirangi, the competition for prototypical paintings by McCahon was a major contributor to the success of this recent July sale. A group of four works from different periods of McCahon’s career contributed $635,448.75 towards the sales total. Of these four paintings, the highest sale price was achieved by North Otago 7—an exceptional example of McCahon’s 1967 return to landscape painting—which sold for $281,400. Some of the most aggressive bidding of the night was seen by the sale of McCahon’s Rosegarden VI, in which a lengthy competition between extremely motivated bidders drove it to sell for a very healthy $149,500—59% over its $80,000 lower estimate. Light Falling Through a Dark Landscape and Jump E17, two variations of McCahon’s depiction of aspects of Muriwai Beach, were also among these sales. On the night, Light Falling Through a Dark Landscape went under the hammer for $44,555, while Jump E17 quickly sold the following day after a post-auction offer was made for it.
One of the other highest-selling lots was Grahame Sydney’s Sunset Near Omarama. This 1994 depiction of the sun setting on an empty Central Otago landscape catapulted to a final sale price of $170,000, the highest figure ever achieved for one of Sydney’s paintings under the hammer. A large work on paper by Peter Robinson titled The Queen is Dead Long Live the King was another work from the 90s that did extremely well. Fierce competition quickly pushed bids past the work’s $15,000 reserve, resulting in a final sale price of $26,381.25. #226, a petite work on board by Tony Fomison depicting a slender blue figure rendered with his characteristic use of chiaroscuro, was a further work that elicited a stellar response from the market. #226 is presented in its original frame, which was hand-made by the late Pat Hanly in the same style as the frames that originally housed his Torso and Golden Age paintings. Bidding between a number of parties led this work, which was also from the collection of Hanly, to eventually sell for a total of $53,935—more than double its published lower estimate. Don Driver’s Euclid also did exceptionally well, selling for a recordCATALOGUE 388

Other sales of note were Peter Stichbury’s Elizabeth Klarer, which sold for $30,000 and Bill Hammond’s GST, a 1994 triptych that easily met its reserve with a sale price of $36,347.50. Excitement also surrounded some of the lower-value pieces in July’s sale: Heather Traymont, a giclée print by Peter Stichbury with a lower estimate of $4,000, sold for $8,207, and Decoration, a work on paper by Lois White with a lower estimate of $4,000, sold for $7,621. A new record was also
set for the work of Marti Friedlander with the sale of Tony Fomison in Front of His Painting Omai in 1979, which far exceeded its $4,000 lower estimate with a sale price of $10,552.50; this exceeded the previous record of $8,438 set by a sale of the same photograph in 2008 by Webb’s. The Webb’s Jewellery team presents our spring sale of Fine Jewellery & Watches, to be held at 11.00am on Saturday 27 September. It will offer a superb selection of antique jewellery, premium-brand watches, statement pearls and contemporary jewellery.
In the antique section, we have a full, matching set of lava stone cherub cameo jewellery. Included is a brooch and earring set from circa 1865, which comprises hand-carved, winged cherubs in coloured lava stone, set in gold rub-over mounts.
Lot 26. A traditional Malaysian ruby and diamond Kerosang set. Estimate $2,500 - $3,200
We also have a noteworthy collection of antique Malay and Chinese jewellery, which is very rarely seen on the secondary market in New Zealand. Included in this collection is a 19thcentury kerosang (set of brooches) created by Straits-born Chinese silversmiths. The owner was informed that these items, which are known together as ibu and anak (mother and child), came from a Malay palace in Eastern Malaysia. Because of the intricate nature of the reverse side of the ibu brooch, these may have been made for a young princess. The sale includes a significant offering of emerald jewellery with a strong emphasis on size. Highlights of this group include an impressive oval, emerald-and-diamond ring with a natural emerald of 20.57ct set in 18.00ct white gold and pave-set diamonds, as well as a striking pair of emerald-and-diamond drop earrings that feature long-cut emerald stones of 12.22ct and 11.51ct alongside round, brilliant-cut and baguette-cut diamonds.
Also featured are pieces of stunning diamond jewellery spanning a variety of periods and styles, including rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces of varying carats, clarity and colours at a wide range of price points. Of note is a stunning, large, 3.17ct, round, brilliant-cut diamond ring set in 18.00ct yellow gold, of colour H and clarity SI2. Objects of virtu are also part of the sale, including a Victor Mayer, Fabergé Co, New York, polar bear egg, released in 2008. This jewelled egg is designed in gold and platinum with transparent-blue enamel over a guilloche-patterned ground of snowflakes. The egg opens to reveal a bear with cubs on a rock-crystal ice flow. We are excited to have works by contemporary jewellers Warwick Freeman, Guenter Taemmler and Christine Hafermalz-Wheeler included in this sale. Warwick Freeman has a necklace and pair of earrings that are both original 1980s’ pieces purchased from Fingers gallery; they were produced during the important Bone Stone Shell movement. Warwick Freeman is arguably one of the most influential jewellers in New Zealand and has a strong following nationally and internationally. Freeman’s jewellery is highly collectable and very rarely seen on the secondary market.
Lot 72. An impressive Columbian emerald and diamond dress ring by Castellani. Estimate $30,000 - $40,000
Lot 70. A fine quality Victor Mayer Faberge Co New York Polar Bear Egg, 2008. Estimate $40,000 - $50,000

Important Nguru Flute. Achieved $46,900
In recent years, the quality of the artefacts presented by the Oceanic & African Art department to the market has ensured Webb’s reputation as New Zealand’s most successful and experienced supplier of Oceanic and African art to the secondary market. This reputation is mostly due to an extensive campaign by Jeff Hobbs, Webb’s Head of Oceanic & African Art, to repatriate Maori taonga and Oceanic artefacts to New Zealand. Collaborating with international collectors who recognize and understand that New Zealand should have an opportunity to repatriate pieces of its history, every year, Jeff travels internationally on behalf of Webb’s to return important treasures, thus resulting in the successful sale of numerous pieces of Maori taonga. Jeff’s ability to source unique, worldclass cultural artefacts has enabled
Webb’s to attract the attention of a host of major cultural institutions. Significant contributions to the field include the valuation of the entire Maori, Pacific and ethnographic holdings at the Museum of New Zealand Te Papa Tongarewa as well as the entrustment of the release of over 300 Maori, Aboriginal and African holdings at the Zanesville Museum of Art, Ohio, USA. Previous notable sales to institutions include an extraordinarily rare whalebone nguru (Maori flute), a chiefly taiha, a prestigious finely carved greenstone mere and an extraordinarily rare, early pre-contact serpentine pendant. CATALOGUE 388
WEBB’S
At over 360 lots, our final A2 sale for 2014 is impressive in both its breadth and depth, and traverses contemporary, modern & historical New Zealand practice. The offering ranges from crowd pleasers such as the perennially popular graphic editions Swoop of the Kotare by Don Binney and Glister by Peter Stichbury to rare surprises such as one of John Ward Knox’s delicate oil paintings on calico and an impressive untitled work on board by Buck Nin made in 1977. Lot 32. Bill Hammond, Bone Eagle B, Estimate $1,200 - $1,800 (left)
Lot 26. John Ward Knox, life, still-Baby. Estimate $2,800 - $3,800
Contemporary New Zealand art from recent years is well represented in the catalogue. A highlight is undoubtedly John Ward Knox’s untitled work on stretched calico (lot 26), which explores the traditions of both realist and minimalist painting practice. In the centre of the work, a young, reclining child is described in an area of monochromatic paintwork; however, the majority of the work’s surface is left bare. As calico is a relatively transparent substrate, the work’s stretcher bars are delicately silhouetted along its four edges. Further, the painted image is given a striking luminosity, as it is, in effect, back-lit. The work conforms to both formalist and figurative schemas and, in doing so, invites the viewer to consider their relevance to one-another. An untitled collage on Perspex by Peter Madden will also be presented (lot 23). Madden famously sources
all of his imagery from found copies of National Geographic magazines, which he then assembles into intricate tableaus. In this work, images of various mammals, birds and insects envelope the smooth silhouette of a piece of modernist furniture, quite literally contrasting human-made forms with those of the natural world. Graphic and editioned works made within recent years include two fine examples by Bill Hammond: an untitled lithograph dated 2006 (lot 35) and a small etching from the Bone Eagle series of 2007 (lot 32), which features miniature detailing for which the artist is acclaimed. Also of note are two giclée prints by contemporary luminary Liz Maw, Deepa (lot 3) and The Citizens (lot 65), neither of which have been presented at auction before. The sale includes an expansive component of both contemporary New CATALOGUE 388

Zealand photography and photographs from the 70s and 80s. It is interesting to note that while they are some of the rarer, lesser-known images from the series, two of the included
works by Peter Peryer are from the artist’s critically acclaimed photoessay Gone Home of 1976. Another work that is interesting to consider in relation to Peryer’s ouvre is Ronnie Van Hout’s After Peryer (lot 51), which is based on Peryer’s 1994 photograph Doodlebug. After Peryer has been widely exhibited and, perhaps most recently, the image was included in Unnerved: The New Zealand Project at Queensland Gallery of Modern Art, Australia in 2010.
A traditionally celebrated aspect of the A2 sale-category is its strong selection of graphic editions by leading New Zealand modernists. True-to-form, this catalogue presents an array of graphic editions by canonical practitioners such as Pat Hanly, Don Binney, Gordon Walters, Robin White, Ralph Hotere, Colin McCahon, Jeffrey Harris, Peter Siddell & Nigel Brown. three works by Don Driver, who has enjoyed a strong reception at auction of late (Webb’s July sale of Important Paintings & Contemporary Art saw the artist achieve a new record). In addition to two smaller works (lots 144 & 157) this sale will also present Pink & Red Relief (lot 57): an important example of the artist’s horizontal relief paintings of the early 70s. The sale will also feature a large 1977 work on board by modernist Buck Nin (lot 142). Like Paratene Matchitt, Buck Nin was a Maori painter who practiced with a modernist ethos: he combined traditional Maori patterns and imagery with depictions of his native land and people and imbued his subject matter with smooth, subtly graduated colour and hard, crisp edges. Artists like Nin & Matchitt have long been undervalued by the auction market; however, in Webb’s last A2 sale—held in May this year— a work on paper by Matchitt, Au Au Aue Ha!!!, improved on its low estimate by 283% when, after a heated bidding war, it was purchased by Auckland Art Gallery Toi O Tamaki
for $9,775 (incl. bp)—a new record for work of its type. One would hope that the exceptional result is a sign of a growing appreciation of painters like Matchitt and Nin, who are a vital part of our nation’s cultural history.

$635,448 $1.6 million July sales total for works by Colin McCahon
The first half of 2014 has seen Webb’s achieve a host of landmark sales across two auctions of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art. The most notable of these was the sale in March of Colin McCahon’s Kauri Trees, Titirangi, which achieved $412,700—the highest price achieved this year for the sale of any work of art at auction. In the recent July sale, the inclusion of a group of four works by McCahon contributed $635,448.75 towards the highest sale total of the auction season. Achieving $281,400,
Sophie Coupland Director Fine Art Department
“With a sales total in excess of $1.6 million, the recent July auction of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art saw Webb’s achieve a market-leading result.”
North Otago 7 was the highest-selling of these; Rosegarden VI was second, with a sale price of almost $149,500—59% over its $80,000 lower estimate. Tony Fomison was well represented in both sales, with #226 from the July sale achieving $53,935—216% over its reserve—and Mental Defective achieving $129,000 in the March sale. Among a host of other record-breaking sales in July’s auction, Grahame Sydney’s Sunset Near Omarama catapulted to $170,012.50, the
highest amount ever achieved for one of Sydney’s paintings under the hammer; additionally, Don Driver’s Euclid sold for $26,970, beating the previous record for a Driver work by $3,970. Entries are now invited for the next auction of Important Paintings and Contemporary Art, which is due to be held in November 2014. Feel free to contact our team of Fine Art Specialists to organise a no-obligation auction appraisal and discuss consignment into this sale.

WEBB’S A2 ART MARKET HIGHLIGHTS Charles Ninow Webb’s Fine Art Senior Specialist
110%
“The continued increase in engagement from buyers at the A2 auctions reflects both the confidence of the market and the demand for the quality works that are offered in this auction category.”
average return on reserve Over $1-million total A2 turnover in 2014
A2 sale growth 2012 to 2014
The recent A2 sale, held in May, continued further the success of the preceding sale held in February. With over 300 works offered in two sessions, the sale witnessed increased engagement from enthusiastic buyers, which has resulted in a total turnover of more than $1 million for this auction category so far this year. Graphic editions by artists such as Ralph Hotere, Don Binney and Dick Frizzell, alongside contemporary artists such as Bill Hammond and Reuben Paterson, witnessed strong demand from the market, with works by these artists
exceeding their published estimates. Don Binney’s Swoop of the Kotare, Waimanu, achieved $11,725, reflecting ongoing demand for this series of prints and continuing Webb’s success after we set the record price for a print by a New Zealand artist in 2013. An untitled lithograph by Bill Hammond also exceeded its published estimate, achieving $4,340, and Hinenuitepo, by Reuben Paterson, achieved a sale price of $4,690, well over the published estimate for the work. Extremely strong market demand was witnessed for Self Portrait,
by Dick Frizzell, which also achieved a price above its estimate of $18,760 and the iconic Auckland View, by Peter Siddell, was another work that was the subject of much competition from buyers, achieving $14,070. Early entries are invited for our next A2 sale, to be held February, 2015. We encourage you to contact our art specialists to discuss consignment opportunities into future catalogues.

Should any dispute arise as to the bidding the lot in dispute will be immediately put up for sale again at the preceding bid or the auctioneer may declare the purchaser which declaration shall be conclusive. No person shall advance less as a bid than the sum nominated by the auctioneer. A bid may be withdrawn before the auctioneer declares that bidding on a lot is closed. 2. RESERVES. All lots are sold subject to the right of the seller or his agent to impose a reserve. 3. REGISTRATION. Purchasers shall complete a bidding card before the sale giving their own correct name address and telephone number. It is accepted by bidders that the supply of false information on a bidding card shall be interpreted as deliberate fraud. 4. BUYERS’ PREMIUM. The purchaser accepts that Webb’s will apply a buyer’s premium which is charged in addition to the hammer price (unless otherwise stated) together with GST on the premium, which combined sum shall be the total purchase price. The rate of Buyers Premium is published in each catalogue online in conjunction with the catalogue. 5. PAYMENT. Payment for all items purchased is due on the day of sale immediately following completion of the sale. If full payment cannot be made on the day of sale a deposit of 10% of the total sum due must be made on the day of sale and the balance must be paid, in clear funds, within 5 working days. Payment is by cash, bank (cashiers) cheque or Eftpos. Personal and private bank cheques will be accepted but must be cleared within 5 working days of completion of the sale. Credit cards are not accepted. 6. LOTS SOLD AS VIEWED. All lots are sold as viewed and with all errors to description faults and imperfections whether visible or not. Webb’s has used its skills and experience to ensure the genuineness or authenticity of each lot but, as it is impossible to provide conclusive proof of genuineness or authenticity for most items, buyers should proceed upon their own judgement. Buyers shall be deemed to have inspected the lots or to have made enquiries to their complete satisfaction prior to sale and by the act of bidding shall be deemed to be satisfied with the lots in all respects. 7. WEBB’S ACT AS AGENTS. They have full discretion to conduct all aspects of the sale and to withdraw any lot from the sale without giving any reason. 8. COLLECTION. Purchases are to be taken away at the buyer’s expense immediately after the sale once payment in full has been made. If this is not done, Webb’s will not be responsible if the lot is lost stolen damaged or destroyed. Any payment by cheque will not be considered paid until the payment has cleared. Any items not collected within seven days of the auction may be subject to a storage and insurance fee. A receipted invoice must be produced prior to delivery of any lot. 9. LICENCES. Buyers who purchase an item which falls within the provisions of the Antiquities Act 1975 or the Arms Act 1958 cannot take possession of that item until they have shown to Webb’s a license under the appropriate Act. 10. FAILURE TO MAKE PAYMENT. If a purchaser fails either to pay for or take away any lot Webb’s shall without further notice to the purchaser at its absolute discretion and without prejudice to any other rights or remedies it may have be entitled to exercise one or more of the following rights or remedies: A. To issue proceeding against the purchaser for damages for breach of contract.
B. To rescind the sale of that or any other lot sold to the purchaser at the same or any other auction. C. To resell the lot by public or private sale. Any deficiency resulting from such resale, after giving credit to the purchaser for any part payment together with all costs incurred in connection with the lot, shall be paid to Webb’s by the purchaser. Any surplus over the proceeds of sale shall belong to the seller and in this condition the expression “proceeds of sale” shall have the same meaning in relation to a sale by private treaty as it has in relation to a sale by auction. D. To store the lot whether at Webb’s own premises or elsewhere at the sole expense of the purchaser and to release the lot only after the purchase price has been paid in full plus the accrued cost of removal storage and all other costs connected to the lot. E. To charge interest on the purchase price at a rate 2% above Webb’s bankers’ then current rate for commercial overdraft facilities to the extent that the price or any part of it remains unpaid for more than seven days from the date of the sale. F. To retain possession of that or any other lot purchased by the purchaser at that or any other auction and to release the same only after payment of money due. G. To apply the proceeds of sale of any lot then or subsequently due to the purchaser towards settlement of money due to Webb’s or it’s vendor. Webb’s shall be entitled to a possessory lien on any property of the purchaser for any purpose while any money remains unpaid under this contract. H. To apply any payment made by the purchaser to Webb’s towards any money owing to Webb’s in respect of anything whatsoever irrespective of any directive given in respect of or restriction placed upon such payment by the purchaser whether expressed or implied. I. Title and right of disposal of the goods shall not pass to the purchaser until payment has been made in full by cleared funds. Where any lot purchased in held by Webb’s pending i. clearance of funds by the purchaser or ii. completion of payment after receipt of a deposit the lot will be held by Webb’s as bailee for the vendor risk and title passing to the purchaser immediately upon notification of clearance of funds or upon completion of purchase. In the event that a lot is lost, stolen, damaged or destroyed before title is transferred to the purchaser, the purchaser shall be entitled to a refund of all monies paid to Webb’s in respect of that lot but shall not be entitled to any compensation for any consequent losses howsoever arising. 11. BIDDERS DEEMED PRINCIPALS. All bidders shall be held personally and solely liable for all obligations arising from any bid including both telephone and absentee bids. Any person wishing to bid as agent for a third party must obtain written authority to do so from Webb’s prior to bidding. 12.SUBJECT BIDS. Where the highest bid is below the reserve and the auctioneer declares a sale to be “subject to vendor’s consent” or words to that effect the highest bid remains binding upon the bidder until the vendor accepts or rejects it. If the bid is accepted there is a contractual obligation upon the bidder to pay for the lot. However a bid may be withdrawn by the highest bidder at any time before the vendor accepts the bid. Once accepted by the vendor a contract has been formed. 13. SALES POST AUCTION OR BY PRIVATE TREATY. The above conditions shall apply to all buyers of goods from Webb’s irrespective of the circumstances under which the sale is negotiated. CATALOGUE 388

GILLIE DEANS
Resident South Island Fine Art Specialist As Webb’s resident South Island fine art specialist, Gillie Deans is an essential point of contact for collectors and vendors of art across the lower half of New Zealand. A long-time veteran of New Zealand’s multifaceted art world, Gillie is widely respected and has held a number of significant positions in various institutions in the Canterbury region, including consultant at Christchurch’s Centre of Contemporary Art, chair of the University of Canterbury’s School of Fine Arts Gallery and a founding trustee and deputy chair of the Art and Industry Biennial Trust. 144

Over the years, Gillie has developed relationships with both new and seasoned buyers of New Zealand art, and as an experienced and trustworthy source of advice on the assessment, conservation, valuation, sale and purchase of art, Gillie acts as a guide for these collectors through the often difficult terrain of New Zealand’s ever-evolving art landscape. As such, her appointment as resident South Island fine art specialist allows Webb’s to provide a very personal touch to interactions with collectors based in the South Island. Of her time working for Webb’s Gillie says “clarity and trust are
critical components of this job. One of my pleasures is developing sound and honest relationships based on respect for the client’s needs - be they dedicated collectors, experienced or first time buyers or prospective vendors.” Gillie regularly travels between all of the South Island’s major metropolitan centres and is always happy to meet with collectors to advise them on acquisitions or to discuss the market value and suitability for auction of works from their collections.
