When the first snow falls in November, the Balme often opens early as the Aravis mountain range acts as a natural barrier to the Alps and so captures this precious first snow. The north west facing slopes and the higher altitude mean you can ski here from December to the end of April.

... NIEUWE LIFTEN

Since 2012, the resort has been carrying out a major renovation program and the next step is a total renovation of the slopes and ski lift on the Crêt du Merle. Winter 2017/18 will see the inauguration of a new detachable 6-seater chairlift for an increased up-lift capacity, comfort and speed accompanied by a brand-new bottom station which will accommodate the main ticket office, the Sports Club and an area for ski lockers. An access ramp for people with reduced mobility will be installed with a lift for access to the slopes. The resort is dedicated to to ensuring your ski experience gets better all the time!

Het investeringsprogramma van het station voor het skigebied begon in 2012 en gaat helemaal door tot aan de sneeuw van Crêt du Merle en zijn liften. Een volledig nieuwe ontkoppelde stoeltjeslift met 6 plaatsen, met een superieure snelheid, capaciteit en zeer comfortabel, wordt deze winter 2017-2018 geopend, samen met een gloednieuw vertrekstation. In dit nieuwe gebouw komt de Caisse Centrale, de Club des Sports en een ruimte speciaal voor opslag van ski’s. Een schuin oplopende toegang naar de sneeuw wordt uitgerust met een lift voor personen met een verminderde mobiliteit. Het station blijft dag in, dag uit investeren voor uw comfort zodat u uitstekend kunt genieten van uw dagen op de ski’s!

La Clusaz is well-known for its sensational off-piste possibilities and for the originality of its terrain. Over the years it has become the hub of Freeriders worldwide. Its little surprise to learn that it is the birthplace of a number of champions, covering all generations. The resort was a pioneer for freestyle skiing during the 80s and is now the epicentre for ‘Freeskiing’, cultivating the movement via the LCZ community on Facebook (LCZ Original Riders Factory)..

DE BERG RUIKT NAAR ADRENALINE La Clusaz staat bekend om het ongelooflijk off-piste skiën en is geliefd om zijn aparte geografie van de bergkammen. Zo door de jaren heen is dit skigebied een echt centrum voor Freeriders geworden, dus het is niet vreemd om hier de kampioenen tegen te komen, van alle generaties. Sinds het einde van de jaren ‘80 zijn de pioniers van freestyle hier naa toe gekomen en tegenwoordig is dit station de wereldwijde referentie in Freeride en wordt deze cultuur levend gehouden via de organisatie LCZ (zie facebook, LCZ Original Riders Factory)..

The « FreeSkid Tour » is the first of its kind for children of 10-13 years. The object of the event is to create an area where for young skiers who haven’t yet reached the minimum 14 years needed to enter the Freeride Junior Tour circuit and yet have the necessary technicity, can express themselves freely! The race is designed to give the children a first experience of competition in a fun and educational way.

DE OFF-PISTE COMPETITIE ZOALS VOOR DE GROTEN De ‘FreeSkid Tour’ is de eerste competitie van freeride voor kinderen van 10 tot 13 jaar. Het doel van dit evenement is het creëren van ruimte voor de jonge skiërs onder de 14 jaar (de minimale leeftijd om deel te nemen aan het circuit Freeride Junior Tour) die al een flinke ervaring hebben opgebouwd! Deze ludieke en leuke vorm van wedstrijd is ontwikkeld om de kinderen een eerst ervaring te bieden in de competitie.

Located in the Mini Loup area, the Family Run is the resort’s freestyle training area. It is made up of 2 tracks separated by a green run to let skiers and snowboarders get a safe but fun taste of the sport.

De Family Run ligt op het gedeelte van de Mini Loup en is de zone voor beginners in freestyle. Deze run bestaat uit 2 parcours die door een groene piste van elkaar worden gescheiden en biedt skiërs en snowboarders de mogelijkheid de discipline in alle veiligheid te leren en vooral om plezier te maken.

It is also a big picnic area open to all and the obligatory stop for a selfie in front of the letters « L A C L U S A Z »!

Maar de Family Run is ook een grote picknickplaats die voor iedereen toegankelijk is en een must voor een selfie voor de letters L A C L U S A Z!

TRY SKI MOUNTAINEERING! La Clusaz is at the heart of ski mountaineering in France and the resort is aware of riders demands but also the curiosity of visitors, however the most important role of the resort is to guide and help skiers who are looking for the perfect unbeaten track.

2 NEW SLOPES TO BEGIN ON OR TO PRACTISE ON. The resort took the initiative last year of creating 2 new ski mountaineering tracks for beginners and experts. One reaches up to the summit of the Beauregard Plateau from the Hameau des Alpes and the other leaves from Les Joux on Etale to arrive at the Belvédère Massif. The aim is to provide the opportunity to enjoy a different type of skiing in total security and serenity!

TWEE NIEUWE PISTES OM TE OEFENEN, OF OM TE TRAINEN Sinds afgelopen winter heeft het station twee nieuwe sporen gecreëerd voor toerskiërs om naar boven te klimmen, tegelijkertijd bestemd voor beginners als voor gevorderden. De ene klimt naar de top van het plateau van Beauregard en vertrekt vanaf Hameau des Alpes en de andere bevindt zich op het gedeelte van de Etale en gaat naar de Joux om op Belvédère aan te komen. Twee pistes voor variatie in het plezier, maar wel veilig en in alle rust! HOW ABOUT GOING OUT WITH A GUIDE ! Off-piste skiing needs instruction and practice. There are many different programmes offered by agents in the resort to learn about security measures and discover the discipline in safety. Watch out though, once you’re bitten by the bug, you’ll keep coming back, mountaineers love The Aravis!

KIES VOORBEREID! Het is niet mogelijk om off-piste te skiën zonder hiervoor een cursus te volgen. Dankzij de verschillende programma’s die op het station worden aangeboden, kunt u meer leren over de veiligheid maar het off-piste skiën ook een dagje in alle rust proberen. En als u het leuk vindt, dan komt u zeker terug! Want de Aravis, dat is het paradijs voor toerskiërs...

The major advantage of this age-old sport is its setting, often enjoyed in untamed natural surroundings at one with nature, where you can really feel the benefit and get away from the hustle of everyday life. The Confins, nestling into the magnificent Aravis coombs above the Confins Lake, is well-known for its spectacular backdrop and its ease of access. The Confins Plateau has the most visitors for cross-country skiing in the Haute Savoie and has been the official site for the World Cups from 1987 to 2016. It has 50km of diverse slopes for all levels in a beautiful setting with a 7km link to the resort of Le Grand Bornand.

For nearly 20 years, La Clusaz has been organizing its famous “Pestacles”, the biggest family, street arts festival in the Alps. Children and adults alike, marvel at the Christmas magic and festive entertainment around the village at the heart of the Aravis, all free of charge from the 24th to 31st December.

WHERE DOES THE NAME «LA CLUSAZ» COME FROM? The name La Clusaz comes both from its history and its geographical location. The word “cluse” means “a tight path between 2 mountains” in the local dialect. Old parchments refer to “Clusa Locus Dei” “enclosed place of God”, a name given by the Abbots of Talloires, on whom La Clusaz depended, and in turn became “La Clusaz-lieu-Dieu”. It was used until May 1772. There are many place names with -az in the region that have their origins in the local arpitan language, it’s worth noting that in this case the “z” is not pronounced.

OORSPRONG VAN DE NAAM ‘LA CLUSAZ’ De plaatsnaam van La Clusaz reflecteert tegelijkertijd zijn geschiedenis en zijn geografie. De naam vindt zijn oorsprong in het woord ‘cluse’, wat in de regionale taal een ‘optocht/pad tussen twee bergen’ betekent. De oude parochianen noemden deze plaats ‘Clusa Locus Dei’, de plaats dichtbij God, wat werd verbasterd tot ‘La Clusaz-lieu-Dieu’, gebruikt tot mei 1772.
