THE SKIABLE TERRAIN OPENING FROM 29 DECEMBER OR BEFORE (DEPENDING ON SNOW COVER) TO END OF APRIL 2016
La Clusaz has a unique location on the north-west flank of the Aravis Mountain Range. As the first mountainous barrier in the Alps for snow fall, it boasts an impressive reliable snow record. The proximity of the great lakes of Annecy, Leman and Bourget, combined with the enviable location, guarantees quality snow coverage. The resort has an extended season, running from early December to early April.
It has an average of 4m total snow cover per winter and snow making capacities over 60ha of the skiable terrain.
5 MOUNTAINS 5 TIMES MORE ENJOYMENT! The resort is a prime destination for skiers of all abilities from beginners to advanced skiers, with 130 km of slopes linked by an efficient and up-todate network of ski lifts. Beauregard and Manigod are particularly suited to families and beginner skiers. L’Etale and l’Aiguille will appeal to intermediate skiers with a love for good food and a bit of fun (see page13) And last but certainly not least : the famous Balme area !

With an exceptional 1500m elevation difference from the summit of the Balme to the village, La Clusaz is truly an extraordinary resort. The Massif des Aravis ski pass covers the skiable terrains of La Clusaz and Grand-Bornand, linked by shuttle buses, and opens up an unrivalled, exceptional 220kms of skiing. *the kilometres are calculated according to the length of the slopes measured from the middle and include necessary turns.
THE MYTHICAL BALME Welcome to the Balme, a favourite area on the mountain for Freestylers on skis or snowboards. Freestyling is often confined to developed snow parks, where freestylers can practise their jumps and figures in the 3 categories: • Half-pipe • Slopestyle • Big air Freestylers can let themselves go in the Balme known as a ‘backcountry’ area where they use the natural terrain for their jumps and figures. The site is highly coveted in the world of freestylers, with its fantastic snow conditions, being north facing and with a large elevation difference culminating in its 2600m peak. Freestylers are not alone in loving this area, alpine skiers flock to the powder days here too.

La Clusaz has invested in and built new ski lifts for easier access, more comfort and safety! The works were in 3 stages. In 2012, the Crêt du loup and P’tit Loup chairlifts were constructed. In 2014, the restructuring of the Bossonnet area with the addition of a Telemix serving the Louveteau plateau, a chairlift to access the lower part of Merle and Beauregard, a ski lift for beginners, an 85-space parking and a building for ticket offices and luggage room. In 2017, the replacing of the Merle chairlift.
FREE SKI TOURING La Clusaz is well known as a great destination for freeriders where after just 20 minutes’ walk you can access breathtaking untouched slopes. Free ski touring and ski mountaineer enthusiasts are spoilt for choice with its magnificent coombs and such a wide range of off-piste opportunities.
FREE SKI TOURING VS SKI MOUNTAINEERING
Both off-piste, but with their own particularities: FREE SKI TOURING = priority is on the descent Free ski touring involves a short hike with the aim of making fresh tracks down virgin snow. SKI MOUNTAINEERING = priority is on the ascent. Ski Mountaineering is closer to classic mountaineering where reaching a peak or ascending a combe is more important.

You can now safely perfect and practise your ski mountaineering techniques on the following groomed slopes: Balme: Balme, Bergerie and Blanchôt slopes. Etale: Régine Cavagnoud and Tétras slopes. Beauregard: Guy Périllat slope(apart from the section below the Névé skilift) and the Black slope.

UA « TRANSCEIVER CHECKPOINT » ! In a continued effort to improve off-piste security, La Clusaz installed a « transceiver checkpoint »last winter in partnership with Ortovox. This checks that the ARVAs used by skiers and snowboarders are working correctly and that the equipment is correctly set up so that the person can be located in case of need. It can be found at the bottom of the Balme.

La Clusaz is well known for its exceptional off-piste skiing, its unique geographical location and its impressive magnificent combs.
T HE ELITE OF F REERIDERS La Clusaz has long been established as the hub of « Freeriding ». It comes as little surprise that the resort has been a veritable hotbed of champions for generations.
LOÏC COLLOMB-PATTON: Freeride World champion 2014, he finished 6th overall in the Freeride World Tour in 2015 (1st French). SEB MICHAUD: after 16 years’ experience on the International circuit, he left competitive skiing after the final stage of the Freeride World Tour 2013, l’XTrem in Verbier.
THOSE TO WATCH ARTHUR RASKIN: Recently crowned Junior Freeride World Champion 2015 in Andorra. He was European Champion and World silver medallist in 2014. ILLONA CARLOD: The French number one won bronze medal at the Junior Freeride World Champion 2015 in Andorra.
THE NEXT GENERATION TO LOOK OUT FOR: Victor Pouvel, Tom Gratadour, Come Leyval, Baptiste Mermillod Poincy, Laura Da Costa, Charly Bogey, Oscar Mandin, and so many more young freeriders from La Clusaz who have a great future ahead of them!

YOUNG FREERIDERS ARE GIVEN TOP PRIORITY The resort is working hard to encourage young freeriders to realise their full potential, and comprehensive training programmes have been developed within the 3 ski schools (ESF, ESI and Evolution2). Each programme is designed to develop awareness of the mountain and its dangers while also encouraging the spirit of competition. Over the season young freeriders are made aware of the importance of safety and security while perfecting their freeriding techniques.

Olympic Champion in Albertville (1992), Bronze medal at Calgary Olympic Games (1988) Lillehammer Olympic Games(1994), triple World Champion (1989, 1991 and 1995), 31 World Cup victories. We met Edgar Grospiron at the anniversary event of the 1995 freestyle world championships where he had won his last world title before retiring from the sport:
“Freestyle is part of La Clusaz; there have always been skiers from here who were pioneers, constantly pushing the limits. The variety of the ski domain and especially its outstanding quality develops certain versatility in skiers but also creativity. The reason there are so many champions from La Clusaz comes also from the support of its inhabitants and the solid structures within the resort, such as the Sports Club. When a village comes out to support a Champion the effect is immense; not only does it give the general public a figure they can identify with the resort but it brings together the whole village for each race. The very spirit of La Clusaz pushes the champions further to the top!”
La Clusaz is one of the birthplaces of « Freeskiing » and through its home grown champions, has seen the rapid evolution of the discipline, first hand over the last 30 years. On its creation in 1975, the freestyle section of the “Sports Club” found instant success. The freestyle discipline, developed from downhill skiing, started with ballet, jumps and moguls which paved the way for the new school with big air, half pipes, slopestyle and skicross. The love of freestyle has been handed down through the generations by world famous local champions such as Seb Michaud, Alexis Blanc, Edgar Grospiron and Raphaëlle Monod followed by Candide Thovex, Laurent Favre, Loïc Collomb- Patton and Joffrey Pollet-Villard who in turn are becoming the icons for the next generation!
THE NEW AND IMPROVED SNOWPARK The resort and its technical services are forever committed to providing the best snowpark for its freestylers for this season and the years to come. Last winter saw the separation between the “advanced” line and the “general public” line which was moved to the other side of the Louveteau slope. The “beginner” slope has now been made safer and is located on the edge of “Mini-Loup”. In addition, there are now easy accessible signs in the beginner’s snow park, to discover safe and fun freestyling for the whole family!

La Clusaz is also host to the only French stage in the cross-country World Cup! 5

The La Clusaz and Manigod ski areas are located on the north-western side of the Aravis mountain range. This very favorable position is exposed to an average cumulative snowfall of over 6 meters, at 1860 metres altitude. • The La Clusaz area covers 4 peaks: Beauregard - Etale - Aiguille - Balme. • The Manigod area includes: the La Croix-Fry and Merdassier regions. These two areas are connected, making a total of 86 runs and 50 ski- lifts, with the peaks rising to 2,600 metres altitude above sea level, offering up to 1500 metres of vertical descent, with stunning views of the Mont Blanc. In addition, special ski passes are available for the Aravis, covering the areas of La Clusaz, Manigod and Grand-Bornand.

PART Y W I TH F R I E N D S A stalwart now for partygoers is the FULL MOON PARTY which is celebrating its 13th edition this year. Party on skis, on slopes opened specially for the night and lit only by the light of the moon! The slopes stay open until 1am for a truly excellent evening of fun!
G RE AT M USI C Once upon a time, local boy, Philippe Thevenet started his own web radio called RadioMeuh. Just 8 years later, the radio is now one of the most popular independent web radios in France*. The radio is free from adverts and free of charge, all you need is an internet connection. RadioMeuh is now the only French web radio to develop its own music festival: the RADIOMEUH CIRCUS FESTIVAL. A simple yet effective concept with 3 evenings of eclectic live concerts under a circus tent and 6 days of DJ sets on the slopes and around the village, with some extra fun thrown in for good measure. * Certified by the OJD (Organisation for the reference of press and digital distribution)

The resort instantly comes alive with. THE FESTIVAL DES PESTACLES DU PERE NOËL for the 17th year running, children and adults alike can marvel at the shows and entertainment around the village. The magic continues with the famous La Clusaz CARNAVAL when every year around 7pm, the ski instructors and snow patrol leave their skis, the local businesses shut up shop and reemerge in fancy dress. They parade through the village on themed floats to music, followed by a spectacular fireworks display!
SPORTS ARE U S La Clusaz is an extraordinary sporting destination with such a wide variety of activities to choose from. Its champions shine brighter every year it has a fantastic infrastructure and also high level international sports events. And if there is indeed a discipline in which our athletes are among the best, it is the Freeride! La Clusaz has decided to organize an exceptional week in 2016 : the FREERIDE WEEK. During one week, the ski resort will be the epicenter of the international freeride community with several competitions programmed for both Juniors and also for elite FWQ (Freeride World Qualifiers). A unique event not to miss! GOLD AND SILVER FOR A FARM FROM LA CLUSAZ! The Clavel brother’s farm, GAEC La Vallée Blanche’s Reblochon was selected for participation in the General Agricultural Selection along with 27 other “Reblochon Fermiers” present at the International Agricultural Fair 2015. After voting by a panel of experts on the aspect, texture and taste of their “Reblochon Fermier”, they won the Gold medal.
