ON TRIP ADVISOR … Very good holidays 13th August 2019 - fraise6913 This was our first summer holiday in the mountains and we had a great week. We have 3 children (7 and 14 years), we did tons of activities and walks over the week. The kids didn’t get bored and prefer the mountains over the sea. We highly recommend the «pass détente» which gives access to lots of activities and the ski lifts. We had good weather. The resort is lovely, we were able to do everything on foot and left the car parked at our holiday rental. A great holiday, we’ll be back in the mountains next year.

The village locals are well-known for their warm welcome and their authenticity. Take some time in the mountains in the summer to discover local culture and find out about the history of the area.

LES DERBY DES ALPAGES

Mountain Biking, long time viewed as a sport for the initiated is becoming more inclusive thanks to the development of the electric mountain bike. It’s a great way to discover the mountains for all levels and abilities.

« Le derby des alpages » is a tradition that has perpetuated in the Alps since the Middle Ages. It involves escorting the cows from their high mountain pastureland to the fields for grazing in the valleys, where they will see out the winter. It also means the herdsmen who have spent the summer months alone with their dogs and cattle high in the mountains return to the company of the local. Inspired by this tradition, La Clusaz has decided to organise an MTB mass start race.

THE MTB RACE A simple concept : 200 cyclists dressed in white jerseys with black spots, to look like the cows coming down from the pastures followed by 5 top riders including Killian Bron as the herdsmen. After the mass start of the « cows », the « herdsmen » have to pass in front of their herd to guide them to the finish line in the centre of the village of La Clusaz.

... FOCUS ON ... ALPS BIKE FESTIVAL : FROM 12TH TO 14TH JUNE 2020 The big MTB event is back for a third year in La Clusaz, full of new surprises for even more fun for mountain bikers. If you love to pedal, you are sure to find something at the Alps Bike Festival with XC, all-mountain, endure and trail riding, for competition or just for fun. CLIMBING

The 700m of the « Yves Pollet-Villard » Via Ferrata are carved directly into the Borderan rock face and offer a stunning itinerary, perched between 1,500m and 1,800m altitude, with a breath-taking view over the thousand and one of colours of the Aravis massif. It has the added bonus of an 80m long suspended bridge and a spectacular final overhang. The descent follows a path through the forest, home to the chamois.

HAVING FUN !

Horseback riding is a great way to explore the mountains in the summer in La Clusaz, and the gentle pace of horses is accessible to all. Take a relaxed, beginner’s ride along the forest trails or go for a longer tour on one of the many circuits ideally adapted to the horses. Let the animals take you back to nature!

OFF THE BEATEN TRACK Take to the heights to revitalise! Discover the beauty of the Aravis from so many different viewpoints. Revitalise your mind and body in the mountains along the trails around La Clusaz, with stunning rock formations, through flowering meadows, wooded paths or along the valleys, unique to the massif. SUGGESTED CIRCUITS • The Family hike : le Danay Vertical climb : 354m / Duration : 2h00 If this is the only walk you do, then this is it ! The tour of the Danay is a brand-new track in La Clusaz. From the Confins plateau, it climbs to the top of the Danay along summer meadows and forest paths. You’ll find yourself at the Cross of the Danay without too much effort and with an outstanding view over the Aravis mountain range. • The sporting hike : Le Trou de La Mouche Vertical climb : 1 116 m / Duration : 5h30 Climb up through the Combe du Grand Crêt where, by moments, you will cross through fields of magnificent pink fuschias. Once at the top, you cross to the Paccaly combe through a natural ca-vity in the rock, known as the Trou de la Mouche ( the fly hole) from where you will have a breath-taking view. Return by the Combe de Paccaly for a stunning panora-mic view over the western slopes of the Mont Blanc. The itinerary can be taken in both directions, it’s up to you! The Bélier Trail is a major, symbolic event that goes against the current trend of ultra-trails and makes the discipline accessible to all. TIM ALONGI, EXTREME PARAGLIDER Tim was practically born paragliding; he took his first tandem flight with his father at 2 years old and his first solo flight at 9. By the age of 15, he had started acrobatic paragliding and quickly evolved with the best freestylers to win national and international competitions. Since becoming French Champion in 2016, he has travelled around the world looking for new challenges and breath-taking images. Geocaching is an outdoor activity, in which participants use a Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver or mobile device and other navigational techniques to hide and seek containers, called «geocaches» or «caches», anywhere in the world. A geocache is a small weatherproof container with register for each visit and holding one or more small “treasures”. It’s a free and fun activity for on or much more people! La Clusaz have set up two geocaching tracks on the Envers de Beauregard and from the Hameau des Alpes and there are many more “caches” to discover in the area. LA CLUSAZ YOGA FESTIVAL FROM 17TH TO 19TH JULY 2020 Breathe deep and relax : There’s nothing better than an outdoor yoga session in the mountains amid the wilderness of Haute Savoie. With such ideal surroundings, La Clusaz now has its own Yoga Festival and we caught up with yoga instructor, Caroline Favre and co-organiser of the event. LC Mag : Could you sum up the objective of « La Clusaz Yoga Festival » ? Caroline Favre : First of all, it’s a great opportnity to delve into the world of Yoga and discover and/or develop its benefits. This can happen on many levels, starting of course, with the physical benefits and a positive exploration of the limits of our body but also on a mental and emotional level as Yoga an embodies an invitation to let go and release the stress, tensions and insatosfaction that come from our everyday lives.
