Engagements! Right after you say "yes" can be the most stressful and happiest time in your wedding planning. You get the ring, get your nails done and promptly proceed to show off the gorgeous jewelry your beau gave you. Yes… it is true. The size of your envelope will determine your postage. Squares are always more to mail than the regular standard sizes. The larger the size the more postage you have.

Always take a completed stuffed invitation, to the post office. You want to make sure you have the correct postage. You don’t want anything returned for not having enough postage.

Yes hand written calligraphy has an elegant look to it, but all that elegance doesn’t come cheap. Do custom address labels that match your set. I’m not talking your office supplier labels, I'm talking about beautiful designed art to add to your envelope. Saves time and save money. You won’t need extra envelopes for mess-ups, while adding a beautiful touch to your envelope. Make a statement before they ever open your invitation.

EXTRA…EXTRA…

Ordering a few extra invitations and envelopes can actually save you money in the long run. It is ALWAYS cheaper to order a few at the time of the original order. If not those few more do add up. Believe me, you will think of someone you didn’t add to the list, and will always need just a few more.

P O S TAG E

All the little details matter when it comes to postage. If it is not a flat or odd shaped you will pay more in postage. The US Post Office calculates shipping based on more than weight alone, so it’s important to consider that before ordering any invitation set by adding in your postage to your budget.

A way to save again is to have all the details on the invitation. You can put your ceremony and reception information on one card instead of two. Another way to save is a small postcard. One envelope VS. two envelopes: Having two for each envelope does double your cost. That is a personal preference, by cutting the second envelope you can save money, not to mention it is more eco-friendly.

T H E P RO P O S A L

Brett told me that we needed to go to his dove lease to pick up shotgun shells. We loaded up our dogs and packed a cooler of beer and spent the day hanging out in the field – just the two of us and our dogs – when he got down on one knee and asked if I’d marry him. It was perfect. We had the outdoors, the dogs, and each other to share this perfect moment together.

THE BEGINNING We both grew up in Odessa. I grew up going to the same church with girlshe was friends with in school. I was home one weekend for a mutual friend’s wedding shower and he was there. He gave me a ride home from the party and asked for my number and we just never quit talking!

THE DRESS

I had always wanted to be a low-key bride, and didn’t want something super lacy and formal.

I had always liked the dresses on J. Crew’s web site. After we got engaged I ordered one I’d been eyeing, to see if it would even work, and it was just perfect. We didn’t even have to get it altered. It was the easiest part of the whole wedding!

I showed our wedding planner different bouquets I liked on Pinterest. My favorite were ones with wild flowers and succulents and all kinds of different blooms. I wanted really pale colors, lots of greenery, and lots of succulents. She added some gorgeous coral colored garden roses… those might have ended up being my favorite! She’s a 3rd generation florist so I gave her an overall idea of what I wanted, but let her do her thing because she’s just brilliant with flowers and decorations. She made the wedding just absolutely magical for us.

REAL WEDDINGS

THE FOOD + DRINK

We had an old fashioned barbeque: brisket, chicken, sausage, and ribs. We used a huge smoker so you could smell the yummy aroma. We had a three-tier cake, of German Chocolate, Italian Cream, and Red Velvet. Everybody loved the pies! We had coconut cream, pecan, cherry, apple, and millionaire pies. We also had a s’more’s bar next to a fire pit with assorted chocolates. Those were a hit! For drinks, we had Lone Star beer – an adage to our Texan heritage, and just about every kind of liquor and wine.

B I G G E S T S P L U RG E

FAVO R I T E M O M E N T S

I loved my dad’s toast. He has always been my hero, and he gave me such a beautiful and perfect wedding. It was just so special to have him give me away and bless our marriage. I loved when Brett and I went out into the hayfield by ourselves for about 10 minutes.

We sat on a bale of hay and just watched our wedding from afar. It was such an amazing and perfect night. It was so special to have a few moments alone together to soak it all in.

B E S T A DV I C E

Don’t worry about the details as much; the day will end up perfect

THE BAND! They were one of our biggest expenses but so worth it. They are first and foremost an excellent band.

Secondly, when their album “Down the Hatch” came out, Brett and I were spending the weekend together (we dated long distance for a while) and downloaded it. We listened to all of their songs on repeat the whole weekend. I always loved that band. They make me think of Brett and the fun weekends we spent travelling to see each other.

We are actually expecting our first baby early this Summer… we’re having a little girl! That was something we’ve always seen completely eye-to-eye on… we want a big family and we were ready to get started as soon as possible!

THE BEGINNING We met in High School when I was a sophomore and he was a senior. We were both in the same class together but we never talked to each other.

This guy would actually wear pajama pants to school but for some reason I thought he was really cute and he would never go for a girl like me. I was sort of a nobody and he was more social. Later in life, when we were both in college but visiting home, and the rest is history. We were a couple for seven years and now we're married!

T H E P RO P O S A L We had already been looking at rings but he told me he couldn't afford the ring until he graduates and gets a better job. He just wanted to get an idea of what I would want. One day I get home from class and notice he isn't home yet so I go outside to get some sun. He gets home and finds me outside but I notice he looks a little worried. I'm thinking something bad happened and now I'm worried but then he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him with the ring I picked out. The ring I thought I would get only in my dreams. After I said yes he had the biggest smile on his face. It was definitely a moment I will always remember.

THE DRESS Finding my wedding dress was a process. I had no idea what I wanted so I tried on probably around 20 gowns before I found it. After trying on different styles I narrowed down what I wanted my wedding dress to look like. I wanted Ivory, lace, strapless, and either a ball gown or princess silhouette.

The last dress I tried on was the one. It was everything I wanted. Ivory, lace, strapless, princess silhouette, and classic! This dress made me feel beautiful.

REAL WEDDINGS

THE VISION I knew what I wanted but I had a hard time visualizing it and explaining what I wanted to other people. Luckily I had Denise (my wedding planner) to help me bring my dream wedding to life. It was simple but classy. There was lace everywhere, pearls, books that had wear and tear jars with tea lights. Exactly what I visioned.

T H E FA M I LY T R A D I T I O N My grandfather was our pastor. He was also the pastor at one of my sister's weddings, which was about a month after mine, and he will be the pastor for my other sister's wedding in October.

THE FOOD We served a buffet with a choice of chicken or prime rib, which was amazing. We had a candy bar (the kids loved this) and of course we had a bride and groom's cake. The groom's cake was in the shape of a guitar.

T H E F LO W E R S I don't know what each one was specifically. I found a picture from a Martha Stewart magazine with the most beautiful arrangements and showed both my florist and wedding planner. The colors were a combination of blush, ivory, and a little bit of green.

THE BEGINNING

We met at a benefit concert I was playing with my brothers, and Roderick was playing with his band. When my brothers found out that Roderick was playing at the same concert they were so excited! One of my brothers even sat my sister and me. He said that one of us had to date Rod because he was such a good guy. I didn’t think much of it, and abdicated the opportunity to my sister. However when I walked into the room and saw Roderick, I immediately changed my mind. We ended up chatting that night and hitting it off, but it wasn’t until a month later when we played at another concert he asked for my number.

T H E P RO P O S A L

I graduated in May and for my present, my dad, sister, and I went to Portland to run a half marathon and go backpacking. Rod told me he was unable to attend due to work obligations. Rod gave my dad a letter that instructed me to be ready by 7am because we were going on an adventure. I was so shocked! I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the fact that Rod was in Portland. He drove us to Lost Lake and had grand aspirations to kayak around the lake and later have picnic. However, it decided to rain on us. So we wandered around the lake and chatted. He read me a poem that he had written, got down on one knee, and made me the happiest girl by asking me to be his wife.

THE DRESS

I had an idea of what I wanted, so when it came to trying on dresses, it was pretty easy to narrow down my choices.

I went to David’s Bridal with my mom on a whim and narrowed it down to two choices, but I didn’t want to get “the one” without my sister there. So I went again with my sister and sister-in-law and showed them the two dresses that I loved. I had such a hard time deciding. The consultant helping me suggested I try on a Vera Wang dress, and once I had it on, I knew it was the one. It had all that I wanted!

THE MUSIC

Our first dance was “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Billie Holiday.

When Rod and I were first dating, he made me a CD to listen to while he was on tour and that song was on it.

We’ve loved it and danced to it ever since. The Father Daughter dance was “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw.

My dad and I really only dance (or dance somewhat well) to country music, so I searched for a song that would be a good fit for the reception and found this one. When I played it for my dad to see what he thought, he got a little teary eyed, so I knew it was a good choice. The Mother Son dance was “We’ll Be Together Again.” Rod and his mom love Rod Stewart, so this song was a perfect fit.

FAVO R I T E M O M E N T S

Rod and I both agree that one of our favorite moments was right after we walked down the aisle as husband and wife, we had maybe 10 seconds alone and we got to laugh and kiss and cry. Another favorite was our “first look.”

Although I was totally against it at first, I’m really glad we did it. It was another intimate moment that Rod and I had that day that otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to experience.

To brides-to-be, I would say “Take a deep breath.” For husbands-to-be, I would say, “Even if you’re not super excited about the wedding colors or flowers, engage with your fiancé, see how you can help and be a part of the planning.” At the end of the day the most important thing is that you two will be married. If not everything goes according to plan, it’s okay. Marriage is so much bigger and better than a wedding.

I knew that I wanted hydrangeas, so I used those for my bouquet as well as the bridesmaids. I also got some colored filler flowers and greenery that was used along the aisle.

I wanted the mix between vintage and rustic hence the hydrangeas and wildflowers.

THE FUTURE

Right now, we’re looking to move, hopefully to Colorado.

The band that Rod tours with is based out of Colorado Springs, so we would like to be close.

THE FOOD + DRINK

As a native Las Crucen, I LOVE Mexican food! So we got our favorite restaurant here to cater. It was simple, but delicious. We had red and green enchiladas, flautas, beans and rice, and chips and salsa.

PRETTY IN PANTONE �radiant orchid Radiant Orchid is the Pantone Color of the Year and for good reasons! This smooth color can work for all seasons, venues, and for all brides. Pantone kept this secret tucked away all year, but now it’s a free for all for 2014 with this fun, sophisticated color.

This purple-cousin is a great accent, from little details like small flowers that get tucked away in your bouquet to a great pair of shoes. If you’re feeling adventurous, give your bridesmaid’s an orchid makeover! A dress in this cool color will make a fun, but still romantic, statement. The striking hue is sure to compliment all body types and complexions. The groomsmen can get in on the fun, too, with a great Orchid pocket square or cufflinks.

Radiant Orchid can work with nearly every other Pantone color. Creams and greens create an organic palette while oranges and teal elevate this color to a brighter scheme. Different shades of Radiant Orchid make it easy to blend in with the rest of your special day. You can have a lighter version of it tucked away in the place cards and a bolder splash in your accessories.

ake some regular tape and place it along each side of the lid. Paint the inside of each lid with the color of your choice. Since the lid is white, you won’t need primer – however, if you choose a different colored box, make sure to purchase primer, so that the color will be accurate. You will need to allow each layer to dry, before coating again. Each lid takes about 3 coats. Once it’s dry, carefully remove your painters tape (if you go too quickly, you may rip or damage the box).

Cut out a decorative “Will you…” card, spray with adhesive, and place it on the center of the lid. Be really careful here, because it’s very sticky, and you will likely not be able to re-position the sticker.

The box is quite large, so depending on what you want to put inside, you will need to add some extra fluff. I used some decorative white crinkle cut fill/shred.

Now add each item that you want to include. In this one we included, candy, personal pictures of the bride with each soon-to-be bridesmaid and a branch pencil wrapped in cellophane.

Using your baker’s twine (I doubled the twine to make it more visible), tie each box with a four way bow.

We used a Cricut to cut out each girl’s name on glitter paper. Attach each name tag (make sure you know which box belongs to each girl! You wouldn’t want to put the wrong name tag on the incorrect box! I simply tangled the letters of each name in the twine.

a romantic getaway in the clouds O ne of the most common pieces of advice brides often say is to relax and enjoy time with your husband / future husband. It is so important to take time out of your busy life to appreciate your partner. This is especially true during wedding planning. We suggest right after you are engaged run away for a weekend!

I did just that! My beau and I ran away to Cloudcroft, New Mexico for a luxurious weekend at The Lodge. If you’re looking for a lovely get away to spend time with your beau and focus on what matters this is a great place to go. The Lodge has over 70 rooms and a few gorgeous suites to choose from!

We began our weekend in the Governor’s Suite, an adorable vintage-inspired 2-room suite. We were greeted with delicious fruit, cheeses and champagne.

This set the perfect mood for this weekend trip. Our lovely room is also home to their resident ghost, Rebecca! Don’t worry she’s friendly.

After settling down in our roomy suite we got ready for dinner. Friday evening, we shared a delicious dinner at the hotel ‘s restaurant and then relaxed at the bar. The staff was so attentive to our every need. The bartenders were friendly and recommended pairings of drinks. Our waiter even helped us by recommending various dishes and made a gorgeous tableside Caesar Salad.

Saturday morning, we spent about two hours walking around their downtown area. I, of course, had to resist and not buy all the jewelry in sight. Our couple’s massage was next. Of course my beau was a little nervous; he had never had a massage before. But, oh my goodness, the massage was utterly amazing, the perfect activity for your romantic weekend at The Lodge. I highly recommend it.

Overall, The Lodge is the perfect weekend get away. Given our busy schedules we hardly ever have time to relax! We joke that we need vacations from our vacations. That was not the case after The Lodge weekend. Remember to enjoy your beau and your relationship before you begin planning your most important day! Hope you enjoy your time as much as we did!

THE BEGINNING

We met our first class of high school. I sat behind Preston in English.

We experienced high school together as the best of friends – from Preston’s missed opportunities to asking me to the homecoming dance, break ups and all night talks on our landlines, Preston became my dearest companion. We started dating the middle of our junior year, and have been inseparable since!

The morning of the proposal, Preston came to wake me up with breakfast in bed and told me I had to get ready to leave, and to dress warm. We went on a sleigh ride in the snow. They took us to an opening in the woods and served us a delicious brunch under a tent. Afterwards, we drove up the mountain until we hopped out of the car, put on our snow shoes, and hiked up to the top of the peak. After we got down the mountain, Preston called his parents to let them know we were coming home for dinner. He asked if I had a good day. Which seems like a simple question, except half the day I thought there was a ring waiting around each bend! His parents had decided they wanted to go to the Gorge to watch the sun set. We arrived to the Gorge, and strolled along the walkway until we got to the middle to look out on the Gorge as the sun was setting. We began talking about our relationship and other mushy type things. Preston then started talking about how long we had been together and I said, “What are you going to do, break up with me?” As I turned to smile at him, he chuckled and got on one knee. I’ll never forget how embarrassed I was that those were the words I said before he proposed!

I wanted something extremely simple and unique.

I went to Los Poblanos during their annual lavender festival and cut the lavender that eventually became my bouquet.I loved that I incorporated local.

THE DRESS

I knew the dress long before I knew I was getting married! BHLDN had recently come out with their collection of vintage inspired wedding dresses. I had been perusing and found the Tracy Reese stunner I ended up purchasing. It was perfect for my ethereal bohemian wedding vibe. With men and dresses – when you know, you know!

THE VISION

My main goal for our wedding was to reflect who we are as a couple. We chose to highlight the things that make our love so unique. I often tell people that the main inspiration of our wedding was the love between Ares and Aphrodite. This is reflected in Preston and my attire – Preston is stands handsome and tall in his Air Force uniform, while his bride stood barefoot with flowers in her hair.

Photographer! The memories of our wedding are still fresh in my mind and I’m fairly confident I could relive every moment.

However, 50 years from now when Preston and I are old and wrinkly and are telling our little love story, I want to be able to show the love, the excitement, and the beauty of that day. That’s why I picked Tony. He listened to all my suggestions, looked at my Pinterest board, and ended up taking pictures that I will cherish. He was also more than just a photographer – one minute he was giving me a pep talk before the ceremony, the next minute he was on top of the roof taking pictures of everyone dancing on the deck.

Taylor says: Braiding my lavender crown and drinking tea alone in the honeymoon suite. It was a beautiful time to center myself and to be completely happy in my last moments as a single woman. Preston says: Taylor singing “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. She surprised the whole wedding, including me. In that moment, it felt like it was just the two of us – it was the most intimate and special moment of the day.

Don’t stop looking. I picked three things that would be most important. One of these was an outdoor venue, and for the first month of my search, I just could not find a venue that fit. Searching out the perfect place you are picturing can happen, it just takes work and a little imagination.
