hello! Engagements! Right after you say "yes" can be the most stressful and happiest time in your wedding planning. You get the ring, get your nails done and promptly proceed to show off the gorgeous jewelry your beau gave you. You’re excited, not because of the new shiny-ness on our finger, but because of what that represents, a forever with the man you love. We thought as our 1st issue in New Mexico we’d start it from the beginning, The Engagement! Engagements are fun,and amazing, but what do you do next? It doesn’t come as easy as the love you feel for your beau. This issue is chalked full of helpful tips and tricks for you to begin your planning! We have everything from binder how to’s, men’s wedding rings and an absolute fabulous engagement styled shoot with two beautiful couples. Begin your journey with us!!

BINDER
Planning a wedding is a huge task that no bride should take on alone. Family, friends and your soon-to-be are great people to have around to help, but there is one companion that is never busy, always ready, and super cute—your trusty binder. Binders are great resources to keep you organized for your special day. It’s as easy as 1-2-3!

BINDER BRIDES
Step
C H O O S E YO U R B I N D E R
T
his step is easy: Pick a binder! This will be something you carry with you to all your appointments and planning sessions. Your binder should be big enough to keep track of all your items but small enough to be portable! Here’s some of our super cute favorites from Zazzle.
This binder is simple and elegant and matches any bride! You don’t want your binder to be overwhelming—it’s here to help you. It’s a cute tool that will help you stay on track for your special day. This binder is easily personalized but not overbearing. The colors, names on the spine and text can all be changed to fit your personality.
- 16 -
Another one of our favorites is a little more stylized for the bride that wants details everywhere. This binder allows for even more personalization. This black and white chalkboard inspired binder is right on trend! The colors let the design take center stage and become an inspiration point for the rest of your planning. The shabby-chic wedding can be housed in this binder with chalkboard motif, bows and delicate flowers. We can’t get enough!
2 Step
Now that you have your binder, you have to fill it! We recommend putting an adorable photo of you and your groom-to-be as the front page. A sweet reminder to stay calm, organized and focused when going through your binder. The first few pages should be all about inspiration! Any clippings, prints, little notes of ideas should go in the front.
Dedicate tabs to all of the major components: venues, reception colors and details, honeymoon, etc. There are great binder accessories to make your binder even easier to flip through.
DIVIDE AND INSPIRE
Be sure to keep all-important contact information in your binder as well. We recommend organizing to your needs, just like your dress, make the binder work for you! You can dedicate an entire section to cards from vendors or a running list of all your contacts that is easy to update.
THE
Hitching POST
The Hitching Post is a premium online directory with New Mexico's best wedding vendors! A vendor's profile will include a description, photos, contact information, links to website, social media and contact forms.

BINDER BRIDES
Your binder should not be your only means of sanity throughout the planning process, but it will definitely help. Bring it with you when you’re out meeting planners, florists, caterers, anyone and everyone who will be involved in your wedding. Your binder will keep your vision clear when you meet with different venders. It's a great starting point for everyone involved with your special day. Your binder is your walking Pinterest board-edit, add, remove, do whatever needs to be done so that your binder remains a tool that gets you one step closer to the wedding of your dreams.

SAVE THE DATE
T
he date is set and the venue is booked. Now it is time to start thinking about invitations. Your invitations are very important. It is your first chance to set that stage for your event. Whether you want a simple or elaborate wedding, your invitations give your guests a little sneak peek. Today, most brides are budget savvy. Just because you are on a budget, does not mean you have to settle for unoriginal invitations. There are several ways to save money, and still get exactly what you want. It will just depend on where you want to save. Let me, push the envelope for you… Having a designer to create a unique set can benefit you in so many ways. I know internet ordering can be scary. You never know what you’re going to get, and can’t change all the pre-made options. Do you really want an invitation that anyone can order? Think of it this way, have you ever shown up at a party in the same outfit as someone else? This is your day, make it your own! Let me help you create your own set by adding that personal touch that makes it yours. Whether I am matching a certain color, theme or creating artwork that you will continue to use through life that is up to you. I create all art around you. I take your style, your budget, your personality and put it on paper. I’m willing to take your inspirations, ideas and create only what you need. Every set is different and original just like you. You truly can have invitations that fit your unique personality while not breaking the bank.
OPTIONS
There might be too many options... Everything from paper choice to printing preferences depends on your budget. There are several ways to print invitations without sacrificing the design. I can take the same design and print it several different ways depending on what you want to spend. Letterpress is beautiful but can be very expensive. I can help you decide what is best for your budget.
S I Z E D O E S M AT T E R
Yes… it is true. The size of your envelope will determine your postage. Squares are always more to mail than the regular standard sizes. The larger the size the more postage you have. Always take a completed stuffed invitation, to the post office. You want to make sure you have the correct postage. You don’t want anything returned for not having enough postage.
C U S TO M
Getting custom wedding invitations allows you to create everything or anything to match and carry that look throughout. Whether it is a simple thank you card design, wedding program or signage. Let’s create your wedding day exactly like you imaged…very stylish, while staying on your budget. It is all about the details, even the small inexpensive ones. If we can think it, I can create it...
DESIGN
Having a designer create your set allows you to be in control of all the small details. You can alter your set to fit your budget. Whether you are looking for a one sided or a two sided pieceetting custom invitations, allows you to choose exactly where you want your BANG for your buck to show.
- 22 -
ASK THE EXPERT
LABELS
Yes hand written calligraphy has an elegant look to it, but all that elegance doesn’t come cheap. Do custom address labels that match your set. I’m not talking your office supplier labels, I'm talking about beautiful designed art to add to your envelope. Saves time and save money. You won’t need extra envelopes for mess-ups, while adding a beautiful touch to your envelope. Make a statement before they ever open your invitation.
EXTRA…EXTRA…
Ordering a few extra invitations and envelopes can actually save you money in the long run. It is ALWAYS cheaper to order a few at the time of the original order. If not those few more do add up. Believe me, you will think of someone you didn’t add to the list, and will always need just a few more.
P O S TAG E
All the little details matter when it comes to postage. If it is not a flat or odd shaped you will pay more in postage. The US Post Office calculates shipping based on more than weight alone, so it’s important to consider that before ordering any invitation set by adding in your postage to your budget.
SAVE THE DATE
CONTINUED
E N C LO S U R E C A R D S
A way to save again is to have all the details on the invitation. You can put your ceremony and reception information on one card instead of two. Another way to save is a small postcard. A new trend is to do a postcard save the date, much more affordable than traditional cards and envelopes. Postcard RSVPs will save you money; you’ll save on printing costs and postage.
E N V E LO P E S
One envelope VS. two envelopes: Having two for each envelope does double your cost. That is a personal preference, by cutting the second envelope you can save money, not to mention it is more eco-friendly.
A S S E M B LY
Instead of having your invitations come assembled, gather your bridesmaids to help. Having an assembly party, it can be fun, and save money in the end!
S
o there are several ways to save on your wedding budget, it just depends on where you want to save. You have been dreaming of this big day, let me help you make it happen. It starts with a free consultation to get to know YOU, and then the fun begins! Brett told me that we needed to go to his dove lease to pick up shotgun shells. We loaded up our dogs and packed a cooler of beer and spent the day hanging out in the field – just the two of us and our dogs – when he got down on one knee and asked if I’d marry him. It was perfect. We had the outdoors, the dogs, and each other to share this perfect moment together.

THE BEGINNING We both grew up in Odessa. I grew up going to the same church with girlshe was friends with in school. I was home one weekend for a mutual friend’s wedding shower and he was there. He gave me a ride home from the party and asked for my number and we just never quit talking!
THE DRESS
I had always wanted to be a low-key bride, and didn’t want something super lacy and formal. I had always liked the dresses on J. Crew’s web site. After we got engaged I ordered one I’d been eyeing, to see if it would even work, and it was just perfect. We didn’t even have to get it altered. It was the easiest part of the whole wedding!

I showed our wedding planner different bouquets I liked on Pinterest. My favorite were ones with wild flowers and succulents and all kinds of different blooms. I wanted really pale colors, lots of greenery, and lots of succulents. She added some gorgeous coral colored garden roses… those might have ended up being my favorite! She’s a 3rd generation florist so I gave her an overall idea of what I wanted, but let her do her thing because she’s just brilliant with flowers and decorations. She made the wedding just absolutely magical for us.
REAL WEDDINGS
THE FOOD + DRINK
We had an old fashioned barbeque: brisket, chicken, sausage, and ribs. We used a huge smoker so you could smell the yummy aroma. We had a three-tier cake, of German Chocolate, Italian Cream, and Red Velvet. Everybody loved the pies! We had coconut cream, pecan, cherry, apple, and millionaire pies. We also had a s’more’s bar next to a fire pit with assorted chocolates. Those were a hit! For drinks, we had Lone Star beer – an adage to our Texan heritage, and just about every kind of liquor and wine.

I loved my dad’s toast. He has always been my hero, and he gave me such a beautiful and perfect wedding. It was just so special to have him give me away and bless our marriage. I loved when Brett and I went out into the hayfield by ourselves for about 10 minutes. We sat on a bale of hay and just watched our wedding from afar. It was such an amazing and perfect night. It was so special to have a few moments alone together to soak it all in.
B E S T A DV I C E
Don’t worry about the details as much; the day will end up perfect
THE BAND! They were one of our biggest expenses but so worth it. They are first and foremost an excellent band. Secondly, when their album “Down the Hatch” came out, Brett and I were spending the weekend together (we dated long distance for a while) and downloaded it. We listened to all of their songs on repeat the whole weekend. I always loved that band. They make me think of Brett and the fun weekends we spent travelling to see each other.
because you’re marrying the love of your life.
THE FUTURE
We are actually expecting our first baby early this Summer… we’re having a little girl! That was something we’ve always seen completely eye-to-eye on… we want a big family and we were ready to get started as soon as possible!

T H E W E D D I N G P L A N N E R & O RG A N I Z E R B Y: M I N DY W E I S S In keeping with our Binder Bride theme, we chose to review a binder that serves as a planning guide. This binder comes in tough canvas case with easy to carry handles. It has great plastic pockets for all of the cards, fabrics and other wedding knick-knacks you might pick up along the way. The extra plastic page protectors make this binder easy to use if you’re on the run. Additionally, it comes with a stack of Notes papers for you to jot down any inspiration that might come to you. This binder is already detailed in the cutest way so there’s no need for you to worry about appearances. Each new section comes with examples to help guide you through every detail; there are example invitations, thank you notes, and seating charts. This binder is in it for the long haul. We would definitely recommend this binder for longer engagements. It’s sturdy with plenty of room to grow!

ew Mexico, the time has come to get engaged! We went traditional for this shoot. We played with colors, texture and lots of adobe for our two couples. The juxtaposition of inside and outside shots really showcased our new playground; Albuquerque. Our couples were a fun and in love for this stunning shoot.

or Candace and Anthony we wanted to reflect the great New Mexican outdoors so we put her in greens and blues to compliment her great red hair. We kept Anthony in greys to compliment his colorful lady.
EMERALD GREEN
Anthony’s white shirt is clean and crisp for this backdrop. The blues and structure of Candace’s dress show off her up-do. The mountain becomes a part of the picture and we get a peak of the New Mexico landscape. Embrace your natural landmarks and play with scenery!
B L AC K + W H I T E
In this black and white fitted dress, Candace snuggled up to Anthony; showing off her color-complimenting earrings. The color continues onto his shirt showing off their complimentary colors and personalities. His simply colored outfit gives her a great partner to stand bright against. This shot reverses our color palette, but keeps it symmetrical with the rest of the photos.

The stunning New Mexico backdrop provided the perfect stage for our couple to stare deep into each other’s eyes and see their future! Candace’s long flowing dress moved with the mountain breeze and contrasted against the pink adobe. The grey clouds looked down on the couple as they took advantage of the great outdoor lighting.

We loved the movement of the water and shape of the fountain for this shot. Being inclusive of your surroundings makes your engagement pictures more personalized and unique. This couple was all smiles for this fun outdoor time.

Beauty Preparation for Your wedding day
P
riority #1 for one of the most important days of your life looking gorgeous! But in order to look like a princess you must start preparing early. As the clock ticks down toward the big day there’s no need to stress about your skin and achieving your aesthetic goals. Get help from professionals by establishing a relationship with a physician specializing in aesthetics and a medical aesthetician. There’s no doubt this will help reduce the nail biting and sleepless nights.
Start with a consultation: Most medical-spa’s (hybrid of a medical clinic and day spa) or physician’s offices specializing in skin care and aesthetics will offer a free consultation. This evaluation will assist in determining your options and creating a timeline to help you achieve your beauty goals for your special day. Whether it’s clearing acne scars with chemical peels or Fraxel® DUAL re:store laser, growing longer lashes with Latisse®, smoothing cellulite with Velashape® III, freezing fat away with CoolSculpting®, or ridding wrinkles and enhancing lips with Botox® and Juvederm® XC; with stateof-the-art technology, much can be done without surgery and with littleto-no downtime.

Get educated: Our skin is our body’s largest organ. Unfortunately, we were never taught how to care for our skin. What is your skin type? Is your skin oily, acne-prone, dry, or a combination? Knowing your skin type will help determine a skin care regimen you should follow and skincare products you should be applying at home. After an evaluation, the aesthetician will be able to provide a recommendation for in-office treatments such as dermaplaning, microdermabrasion, or facials. These exfoliation treatments are far superior to any treatments available at home. They assist in removing congestion from the skin, stimulate collagen production, facilitate your skin care products with penetration, and help clear acne. The medical aesthetician will also explain the difference between OTC (over the counter) skin care products and makeup vs. pharmaceutical grade skin care and makeup. Most medical-spa’s and physician offices will recommend pharmaceutical-grade skin care lines because the active ingredients are much higherthan OTC products and they penetrate deeper into the skin. Pharmaceutical-grade mineral makeup is also typically recommended.
Do your part: A large part of success with skin care is at-home maintenance. After a regimen has been suggested, at-home skin care is of utmost importance. • We know it’s a chore to wash your makeup off at night, however, leaving your makeup on while sleeping is a huge nono! Makeup traps the built-up dirt, oil, and bacteria on your skin leading to clogged pores, acne breakouts, and increases the aging process. • Use the skin care products recommended. You’ve just spent time and money receiving professional, in-office treatments. Do your part at home to help maintain your results. Protect your investment!
ABOUT ALLURADERM MED SPA
• Choose a mineral makeup. Mineral makeup has natural spf, allows your skin to breath better and typically includes anti-oxidants. • Wear your sunscreen every day! • Plan ahead. Many of the treatments available will take several months to achieve optimal results. Give your physician and aesthetician time to help you. So you see, no matter what your beauty concerns are, there is hope. With the right timeline, treatment plan and professional help you’ll be glowing on your big day making people wonder, “is it love?”
AlluraDerm is a state-of-the-art Medical Spa and skin care facilities in Albuquerque. We provide the most technologically advanced procedures for women and men of all ages. ASK THE EXPERT
TEN TIPS + TRICKS
from a jewelry expert 1 . C O M M U N I C AT E
Talk together about what you both envision your bands to look like. Are your bands going to match? Does the band need to match the engagement ring? Are there any symbols you wish to feature? Do you want your rings to express your individuality? What metals do you like? Do you want to include any stones? Would you like engraving? There are no rules here.
4 . V I S I T YO U R LO C A L J E W E L E R
All jewelers pride themselves on knowing their product. Pop by and look at all your options. Let them educate you on different metals and fit. Partner with them on your ideas, no matter how elaborate or basic, chances are they can meet your needs.
2. SET A BUDGET
This goes hand in hand with communication. Depending on your vision prices can vary. Currently a basic 5mm gold wedding band runs about $600.00 while the same ring in platinum runs $1700.00. Alternative metals offer affordable options. Tungsten and titanium are great alternatives and vary in price from $250.00 to $700.00. Custom work can run higher but can be worth it when your vision is brought to light.
3 . S TA RT E A R LY
You don’t need to start 6 months in advance but 3 months is a good idea. This gives you time to shop for different styles and accommodate for special order times or custom order times. Typically special orders can take up to 6 weeks and custom 8-10 weeks. Always give yourself extra time, this will cut back on stress
- 48 -
5. TRY ON
Visit your local jeweler and try on lots of rings, both of you. Most jewelers carry a vast assortment of metals and styles. Find out if you want a thin band, a thick band, a light weight band, or a band with stones. What metal type do you like? What color of metal is right? There are a plethora of options available and trying them on will help you narrow it down. Enjoy this part, this is when you begin to imagine what you want to wear for the lifetime of your marriage.
ABOUT OOH! AAH! JEWELERS
6. SIZING + FIT
This goes along with trying on lots of rings. Ask your jeweler to size your finger, trust their input. They want you to get the right size, fit is important. Decide if you want a wider band or a thinner band, the width of the band will affect the size ring you want to order. Factor in what you do for a living and your hobbies. You should choose a ring that becomes a part of your everyday life, something that is comfortable and durable and suits your lifestyle.
7 . LOV E YO U R CHOICE
Most importantly you should love the ring you choose. Your ring is a lovely symbol of your union and you will be wearing this ring for a long time. You should feel joy and excitement when you look at your wedding band.

FOR THE GROOM
“A N Y T H I N G B U T T R A D I T I O N A L”
Not every ring is traditional and simple. This ring is engraved with a design that gives it a handsome, masculine touch. If polished isn’t your style, go for this darker more casual look. We love it because it gives men an alternative from solid gold and silver! (Silver ring by Benchmark-Ring)
“MASTER OF DISGUISE”
This ring is great because the bling is camouflaged! If you can’t come to grips with your wedding band having a colorful stone, this is the perfect pick for you. The outside of the band is simple frosted silver and the inside, so it is easy to wear. No one would ever know it’s there! (Turquoise Stone by Yael-Ring)
- 52 -
“LESS IS MORE”
We love this stone because it has bling but it’s also sweet and simple! It has a small, smooth band with small stones spaced along it. While most stones are diamonds, one jewel is colorful. Unlike the other modern ring, this ring is much more traditional with a hint of sparkle! (Topaz Stone by Yael-Ring)
“ RO U G H A RO U N D T H E E D G E S ”
This ring is our recommendation for the man who likes to work with his hands. It’s subtle enough not to stick out, but shiny enough to be noticed. The hammered texture will prevent the show of wear and tear, and we think you grooms will love the gold as much as we do! (Gold Hammered by Benchmark-Ring)
“ FA S H I O N A B L E A N D F U N C T I O N A L”
Rose Gold is becoming an even hotter commodity than ever before. This ring is a great choice for the groom because of the texture of the exterior. We love this ring because it is matte, simple, and not too bulky. It’s easy to wear for every occasion and every day life! (Rose Gold Ring by Brilliant Earth-Ring)
“SOMETHING BLUE”
This ring is for the modern groom who likes a little bit of bling. We love the fact that this ring isn’t as simple as most! If you got it, flaunt it because this ring is well deserving of some praise. Choose the jewels of the month of your wedding and you will never have to worry about forgetting your anniversary. (Blue stones by Brilliant Earth-Ring)

THE BEGINNING We met in High School when I was a sophomore and he was a senior. We were both in the same class together but we never talked to each other. This guy would actually wear pajama pants to school but for some reason I thought he was really cute and he would never go for a girl like me. I was sort of a nobody and he was more social. Later in life, when we were both in college but visiting home, and the rest is history. We were a couple for seven years and now we're married! T H E P RO P O S A L We had already been looking at rings but he told me he couldn't afford the ring until he graduates and gets a better job. He just wanted to get an idea of what I would want. One day I get home from class and notice he isn't home yet so I go outside to get some sun. He gets home and finds me outside but I notice he looks a little worried. I'm thinking something bad happened and now I'm worried but then he gets down on one knee and asks me to marry him with the ring I picked out. The ring I thought I would get only in my dreams. After I said yes he had the biggest smile on his face. It was definitely a moment I will always remember. THE DRESS Finding my wedding dress was a process. I had no idea what I wanted so I tried on probably around 20 gowns before I found it. After trying on different styles I narrowed down what I wanted my wedding dress to look like. I wanted Ivory, lace, strapless, and either a ball gown or princess silhouette. The last dress I tried on was the one. It was everything I wanted. Ivory, lace, strapless, princess silhouette, and classic! This dress made me feel beautiful.

REAL WEDDINGS
THE VISION I knew what I wanted but I had a hard time visualizing it and explaining what I wanted to other people. Luckily I had Denise (my wedding planner) to help me bring my dream wedding to life. It was simple but classy. There was lace everywhere, pearls, books that had wear and tear jars with tea lights. Exactly what I visioned. T H E FA M I LY T R A D I T I O N My grandfather was our pastor. He was also the pastor at one of my sister's weddings, which was about a month after mine, and he will be the pastor for my other sister's wedding in October. THE FOOD We served a buffet with a choice of chicken or prime rib, which was amazing. We had a candy bar (the kids loved this) and of course we had a bride and groom's cake. The groom's cake was in the shape of a guitar. T H E F LO W E R S I don't know what each one was specifically. I found a picture from a Martha Stewart magazine with the most beautiful arrangements and showed both my florist and wedding planner. The colors were a combination of blush, ivory, and a little bit of green. T H E B E S T S P L U RG E My wedding planner. THE FUTURE Finding a home!

ikki and Lucas were a quiet couple that let the camera do the talking for them! He whispered in her ear sweet nothings while she was sweet and smiley for the camera. They stayed inside to snuggle up with each other. Pale pinks, subdued button downs and free flowing hair was all this couple needed for their engagement portraits.

In this shot our couple took it back to classics in a white button down, jeans and a simple striped dress. When wearing clothes that are a paler and subtler in color we suggest a landscape that suggests, but doesn’t overtake your beautiful picture. We chose great red cushions and strong brick to balance out the couple’s softer outfits.

When people think of bridal registries they see fancy china that you only use on holidays, household knickknacks that will never be used and a lot of other stuff that’s supposed to be wanted, but never really needed. Deciding what to put on your gift registry can be a daunting task. We’ve compiled a top-ten list of things that our modern brides would love!
1 2 . H O S T I N G AC C E S S O R I E S
1. LINENS
A house full of friends is a home. Register for great cheese plates, fun wine glass accessories, and personal serving dishes, serving pieces the works for a hostess with the most-ess. Don’t have any parties planned? Have a party of two and enjoy your new husband and service pieces. The works!
There is nothing more refreshing than brand new towels. Every couple deserves to be pampered as newlyweds. Don’t leave the honeymoon behind; registering for great towels and sheets keeps the luxury around. Not to mention, you never know when a guest will drop by to visit.
- 64 -
3 3. SUBSCRIPTIONS
Birchbox, Julep, Frank & Oak, Stylemint & more—subscription boxes are a huge trend this year. They are a great gift year-round, but we love them for a wedding. The bride and groom each get their own personal box of style. With your newlywed life, spoiling yourself can slip through the cracks while you’re settling into your new life, so let these great subscriptions do it for you!
2
5 5 . D I G I TA L D E A L S
There are so many things couples use that our parents would never think of needing—like itunes gift cards, Amazon Prime membership, Hulu Plus or Netflix for those cozy nights in. Money is always a delicate thing to give, luckily American Express and Visa gift cards make money giving subtle and chic.
4 . T R AV E L T R E AT S
Matching, easy-to-spot luggage or beach towels is a must for the jet setting couple. Getting somewhere has never been easier, either. Gifting miles is a great way to treat the adventurous couple. 1,000 miles of travel start at $29.50! Jet set with adorable towels!
- 65 -
6. COUPLE TIME
In this modern world of go-go-go a newlywed couple needs time to enjoy their time together and relax. We suggest gifting some couple’s time at a local spa or even a home spa-care. Not the pampering type? Ask for golfing lessons or another hobby that you and your husband can pick up together.
7. BOOKS
6
We love a good coffee table book! There are so many big print books out there that can give a living space a finishing touch. Modern etiquette books mixed with vintage home design books make any gift registry an easy-buy.
7 8. HOME DÉCOR
Think ahead to your home after the wedding and envision all the things that make it yours. Soft pillows, cozy throws, and cute coffee table accessories. Go ahead and register for the cute, cuddly stuff because sometimes personal is practical! Esepcially things you love but may never actually purchase for yourself.
8 - 66 -
1 0 . W H AT E V E R YO U WA N T ! This registry list is just a guideline for those out of the box registry gifts, but at the end of the day you are in control of that registry gun. See something you like? Get it! See something useful? Get it! Your family and friends want to make the transition from home alone to home with each other as easy as possible—so let them!
9 9 . B AC H E LO R / E T T E PA D R E P L AC E M E N T S
Registering is the perfect time to replace those mismatched silverware sets, chipped bowls and other things that have been with you since you moved out of your parents’ house. Registering is the best time to combine you and your soonto-be’s styles together in a perfect blend of home items. Time to move on from your college plastic cups to something classier.

THE BEGINNING
We met at a benefit concert I was playing with my brothers, and Roderick was playing with his band. When my brothers found out that Roderick was playing at the same concert they were so excited! One of my brothers even sat my sister and me. He said that one of us had to date Rod because he was such a good guy. I didn’t think much of it, and abdicated the opportunity to my sister. However when I walked into the room and saw Roderick, I immediately changed my mind. We ended up chatting that night and hitting it off, but it wasn’t until a month later when we played at another concert he asked for my number.
T H E P RO P O S A L
I graduated in May and for my present, my dad, sister, and I went to Portland to run a half marathon and go backpacking. Rod told me he was unable to attend due to work obligations. Rod gave my dad a letter that instructed me to be ready by 7am because we were going on an adventure. I was so shocked! I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the fact that Rod was in Portland. He drove us to Lost Lake and had grand aspirations to kayak around the lake and later have picnic. However, it decided to rain on us. So we wandered around the lake and chatted. He read me a poem that he had written, got down on one knee, and made me the happiest girl by asking me to be his wife.
- 69 -
THE DRESS
I had an idea of what I wanted, so when it came to trying on dresses, it was pretty easy to narrow down my choices. I went to David’s Bridal with my mom on a whim and narrowed it down to two choices, but I didn’t want to get “the one” without my sister there. So I went again with my sister and sister-in-law and showed them the two dresses that I loved. I had such a hard time deciding. The consultant helping me suggested I try on a Vera Wang dress, and once I had it on, I knew it was the one. It had all that I wanted!
THE MUSIC
Our first dance was “I’ll Be Seeing You” by Billie Holiday. When Rod and I were first dating, he made me a CD to listen to while he was on tour and that song was on it. We’ve loved it and danced to it ever since. The Father Daughter dance was “My Little Girl” by Tim McGraw. My dad and I really only dance (or dance somewhat well) to country music, so I searched for a song that would be a good fit for the reception and found this one. When I played it for my dad to see what he thought, he got a little teary eyed, so I knew it was a good choice. The Mother Son dance was “We’ll Be Together Again.” Rod and his mom love Rod Stewart, so this song was a perfect fit.
FAVO R I T E M O M E N T S
Rod and I both agree that one of our favorite moments was right after we walked down the aisle as husband and wife, we had maybe 10 seconds alone and we got to laugh and kiss and cry. Another favorite was our “first look.” Although I was totally against it at first, I’m really glad we did it. It was another intimate moment that Rod and I had that day that otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to experience.
B E S T A DV I C E
To brides-to-be, I would say “Take a deep breath.” For husbands-to-be, I would say, “Even if you’re not super excited about the wedding colors or flowers, engage with your fiancé, see how you can help and be a part of the planning.” At the end of the day the most important thing is that you two will be married. If not everything goes according to plan, it’s okay. Marriage is so much bigger and better than a wedding.
T H E F LO W E R S
I knew that I wanted hydrangeas, so I used those for my bouquet as well as the bridesmaids. I also got some colored filler flowers and greenery that was used along the aisle. I wanted the mix between vintage and rustic hence the hydrangeas and wildflowers.
THE FUTURE
Right now, we’re looking to move, hopefully to Colorado. The band that Rod tours with is based out of Colorado Springs, so we would like to be close.
THE FOOD + DRINK
As a native Las Crucen, I LOVE Mexican food! So we got our favorite restaurant here to cater. It was simple, but delicious. We had red and green enchiladas, flautas, beans and rice, and chips and salsa.

PRETTY IN PANTONE radiant orchid Radiant Orchid is the Pantone Color of the Year and for good reasons! This smooth color can work for all seasons, venues, and for all brides. Pantone kept this secret tucked away all year, but now it’s a free for all for 2014 with this fun, sophisticated color. This purple-cousin is a great accent, from little details like small flowers that get tucked away in your bouquet to a great pair of shoes. If you’re feeling adventurous, give your bridesmaid’s an orchid makeover! A dress in this cool color will make a fun, but still romantic, statement. The striking hue is sure to compliment all body types and complexions. The groomsmen can get in on the fun, too, with a great Orchid pocket square or cufflinks. Radiant Orchid can work with nearly every other Pantone color. Creams and greens create an organic palette while oranges and teal elevate this color to a brighter scheme. Different shades of Radiant Orchid make it easy to blend in with the rest of your special day. You can have a lighter version of it tucked away in the place cards and a bolder splash in your accessories. With this non-traditional color, the fun is in the creativity. Add it to a headband or a gemstone ring. This hue reaches across the color wheel and highlights pinks, blues and purples. Add its namesake flower to your arrangements so your guests can enjoy the smell and vibrant color of the purple orchid. For neutrally colored weddings, this muted purple will add some interest and pops of color without standing out too much. For brighter wedding schemes, Radiant Orchid creates an anchor to your other colors; a vibrant backdrop to highlight the brighter colors. This bold color should compliment you as a bride and highlight the details of your special day. This color of the year is bound to make your special day the wedding of the year.

ake some regular tape and place it along each side of the lid. Paint the inside of each lid with the color of your choice. Since the lid is white, you won’t need primer – however, if you choose a different colored box, make sure to purchase primer, so that the color will be accurate. You will need to allow each layer to dry, before coating again. Each lid takes about 3 coats. Once it’s dry, carefully remove your painters tape (if you go too quickly, you may rip or damage the box). Cut out a decorative “Will you…” card, spray with adhesive, and place it on the center of the lid. Be really careful here, because it’s very sticky, and you will likely not be able to re-position the sticker. Each bridesmaid box included:

Cute list of responsibilities for each girl
DO IT YOURSELF
The box is quite large, so depending on what you want to put inside, you will need to add some extra fluff. I used some decorative white crinkle cut fill/shred. Now add each item that you want to include. In this one we included, candy, personal pictures of the bride with each soon-to-be bridesmaid and a branch pencil wrapped in cellophane. Using your baker’s twine (I doubled the twine to make it more visible), tie each box with a four way bow. We used a Cricut to cut out each girl’s name on glitter paper. Attach each name tag (make sure you know which box belongs to each girl! You wouldn’t want to put the wrong name tag on the incorrect box! I simply tangled the letters of each name in the twine.
and there you have it! - 76 -

a romantic getaway in the clouds O ne of the most common pieces of advice brides often say is to relax and enjoy time with your husband / future husband. It is so important to take time out of your busy life to appreciate your partner. This is especially true during wedding planning. We suggest right after you are engaged run away for a weekend! - 78 -
I did just that! My beau and I ran away to Cloudcroft, New Mexico for a luxurious weekend at The Lodge. If you’re looking for a lovely get away to spend time with your beau and focus on what matters this is a great place to go. The Lodge has over 70 rooms and a few gorgeous suites to choose from! We began our weekend in the Governor’s Suite, an adorable vintage-inspired 2-room suite. We were greeted with delicious fruit, cheeses and champagne. This set the perfect mood for this weekend trip. Our lovely room is also home to their resident ghost, Rebecca! Don’t worry she’s friendly. After settling down in our roomy suite we got ready for dinner. Friday evening, we shared a delicious dinner at the hotel ‘s restaurant and then relaxed at the bar. The staff was so attentive to our every need. The bartenders were friendly and recommended pairings of drinks. Our waiter even helped us by recommending various dishes and made a gorgeous tableside Caesar Salad. (If you want to learn more about The Lodge’s restaurant check out our review of their food on our monthly restaurant blog!) Saturday morning, we spent about two hours walking around their downtown area. I, of course, had to resist and not buy all the jewelry in sight. Our couple’s massage was next. Of course my beau was a little nervous; he had never had a massage before. But, oh my goodness, the massage was utterly amazing, the perfect activity for your romantic weekend at The Lodge. I highly recommend it. Overall, The Lodge is the perfect weekend get away. Given our busy schedules we hardly ever have time to relax! We joke that we need vacations from our vacations. That was not the case after The Lodge weekend. Remember to enjoy your beau and your relationship before you begin planning your most important day! Hope you enjoy your time as much as we did!
xoxo

THE BEGINNING
We met our first class of high school. I sat behind Preston in English. We experienced high school together as the best of friends – from Preston’s missed opportunities to asking me to the homecoming dance, break ups and all night talks on our landlines, Preston became my dearest companion. We started dating the middle of our junior year, and have been inseparable since!

The morning of the proposal, Preston came to wake me up with breakfast in bed and told me I had to get ready to leave, and to dress warm. We went on a sleigh ride in the snow. They took us to an opening in the woods and served us a delicious brunch under a tent. Afterwards, we drove up the mountain until we hopped out of the car, put on our snow shoes, and hiked up to the top of the peak. After we got down the mountain, Preston called his parents to let them know we were coming home for dinner. He asked if I had a good day. Which seems like a simple question, except half the day I thought there was a ring waiting around each bend! His parents had decided they wanted to go to the Gorge to watch the sun set. We arrived to the Gorge, and strolled along the walkway until we got to the middle to look out on the Gorge as the sun was setting. We began talking about our relationship and other mushy type things. Preston then started talking about how long we had been together and I said, “What are you going to do, break up with me?” As I turned to smile at him, he chuckled and got on one knee. I’ll never forget how embarrassed I was that those were the words I said before he proposed!

I wanted something extremely simple and unique. I went to Los Poblanos during their annual lavender festival and cut the lavender that eventually became my bouquet.I loved that I incorporated local.
THE DRESS
I knew the dress long before I knew I was getting married! BHLDN had recently come out with their collection of vintage inspired wedding dresses. I had been perusing and found the Tracy Reese stunner I ended up purchasing. It was perfect for my ethereal bohemian wedding vibe. With men and dresses – when you know, you know!
THE VISION
My main goal for our wedding was to reflect who we are as a couple. We chose to highlight the things that make our love so unique. I often tell people that the main inspiration of our wedding was the love between Ares and Aphrodite. This is reflected in Preston and my attire – Preston is stands handsome and tall in his Air Force uniform, while his bride stood barefoot with flowers in her hair.

Photographer! The memories of our wedding are still fresh in my mind and I’m fairly confident I could relive every moment. However, 50 years from now when Preston and I are old and wrinkly and are telling our little love story, I want to be able to show the love, the excitement, and the beauty of that day. That’s why I picked Tony. He listened to all my suggestions, looked at my Pinterest board, and ended up taking pictures that I will cherish. He was also more than just a photographer – one minute he was giving me a pep talk before the ceremony, the next minute he was on top of the roof taking pictures of everyone dancing on the deck.

Taylor says: Braiding my lavender crown and drinking tea alone in the honeymoon suite. It was a beautiful time to center myself and to be completely happy in my last moments as a single woman. Preston says: Taylor singing “A Thousand Years” by Christina Perri. She surprised the whole wedding, including me. In that moment, it felt like it was just the two of us – it was the most intimate and special moment of the day.

Don’t stop looking. I picked three things that would be most important. One of these was an outdoor venue, and for the first month of my search, I just could not find a venue that fit. Searching out the perfect place you are picturing can happen, it just takes work and a little imagination.
