DA Z Z L E THEM WITH JEWELS

O C TO B E R + N OV E M B E R TRENDS New Mexico has a reputation for crafting exquisite jewelry, and it is well deserved! You can walk into any local jeweler and discover a fabulous piece of jewelry that can’t be found anywhere else. Earrings, bracelets, or necklaces make perfect gifts for your bridesmaids, or even as a bridal gift from your beloved (hint hint groom!). There would never be an issue of your treasure growing outdated! Good style never goes out of fashion.

GLAM UP Every bride needs a pair of bold earrings for their special day, and these turquoise studs or drop earrings make the quest of finding those earrings much simpler! Gold or silver, extra jewels or without, they offer a sophisticated look without appearing gaudy. Turquoise jewelry is an easy way to knock out your “something blue” while looking trendy and elegant at the same time! (earrings + ring provided by Mark Diamond Jewelry)

DRESS IT UP WITH A GEM These vibrant pendants are the epitome of elegance and refinement. They are crafted for those who really do enjoy the finer things in life and are enthralled by beauty. The vivid semi-precious stones offer a look that is both polished and true to New Mexican culture. Plus, they glam up your look instantly! (necklace provided by Mark Diamond Jewelry)

- 11 -

GO FOR THE GOLD

A L L T H AT G L I T T E R S

If a lot of bling isn’t your thing, this gold hammered pendant necklace is the way to go! Understated and simple, yet the necklace adds an air of modern-cool to any outfit. With jewelry like this, less is always more. Wear alone as a statement piece or layer it with other gold necklaces to pull off a fashion forward ensemble. (necklace provided by Golden Thread)

What is more perfect than an adorable pendant aligned with diamonds? A monogrammed pendant with diamonds! These necklaces are too amazing for words, the fact that they can be personalized for each of your bridesmaids just makes them that much more special. If someone in your group expects their last name to change as well, Golden Thread can engrave the first initial rather than all three! (necklace provided by Golden Thread)

THE REPORT

THE WILD SIDE

It’s rare that you fall in love with everything a jeweler has to offer, but when it comes to Boma, be prepared to fall. Stones and cool geometric designs are all the rage in jewelry, but these necklaces are especially irresistible! Whether you prefer quirky triangles or statement making stones, this shop has a fun and eccentric appeal that will satisfy all types of jewelry lovers! (necklace provided by Boma Jewelry)

This sterling silver roadrunner is so adorable, we can’t think of a cuter way to represent the state bird! Charms make great gifts for anyone involved with the wedding. They are not only delightful to look at, but leave the wearer with cherished memories from the wedding day. And really, who couldn’t use an extra charm? (charm provided by James Avery)

SOUTHWEST STYLE

When looking to accessorize the perfect outfit, rings and earrings are a definite must. We are obsessed with this featured ring, the amount of design and color in a single stone is just captivating! When searching for the perfect earrings to match, consider wearing some that are hand painted. The two combined are a Southwestern vision! (ring + earrings provided by Boma Jewelry)

THE REPORT

N OT J U S T A J E W E L N E X T D O O R

These two necklace and earring sets are so chic in a bohemian glam way that we just can’t get enough! The colors and actual shapes make the appearance of the jewelry come across as quite tribal, it’s as if you are wearing something from history! Sometimes, all one needs is some earthy looking jewelry to make their day! (necklaces provided by Gertrude Zachary Jewelry)

THE URBAN SOUTHWEST

The bright colors and beads are true to New Mexican culture and are super trendy! All of the colors complement each other beautifully, so you can wear either piece with any ensemble! The silver feather shaped earrings would also make a great addition to any jewelry box, can’t you just imagine wearing these fabulous earrings to an engagement party?! (necklace provided by Ooh! Aah! Jewelry)

- 14 -

CONTEMPORARY CLASSIC

Pearls are a favorite at weddings for many reasons, but these specific strands are different than most. For starters, these freshwater pearl drop earrings are absolutely stunning. The name “Forbidden Fruit” has never been termed so appropriately! The matching necklace is equally magnificent—think large and luster! They can even have a slightly edgy look, simply wear the gold clasp in the front rather than the back! (necklace + earrings provided by BHWY Jewelry)

MIX IT UP MASON JARS A SECRET GARDEN

There is something about outdoor ceremonies and receptions that just exude romance! Flower-filled mason jars look absolutely picturesque hanging from an elegant post. Simply place the décor beside each row of seats to create a breathless image for your guests as they walk down the center aisle to find their seats.

Their adaptability allows them to fit in and flow with any type of wedding or special event. PUT A NAME ON IT!

If you’re looking for something more diverse than mason jars as centerpieces or outdoor décor, creating individualized cups with the names of those in your wedding party is a great variation from the norm! Personalized cups for your perfect bridesmaids and groomsmen make great gifts, they are created specifically for each person and can be used during and after the reception. Mason jar glasses are perfect for low-key weddings that are all about the party and perfect photo op!

SWEET AND SIMPLE

Mason jars by themselves make for the ideal wedding favor. One person who takes it home could store a delicious cookie mix in it while another could plant greenery or clusters of flowers in the jar. So, attach a cute saying to the lid and let your friends and family let their creativity reign! Brides, jazz it up with colors from your blissful affair so your friends and family always remember your day! Photo by Temple Photography

Mason jars also make amazing table centerpieces! These are great because the bride can display a bundle of flowers, floating candles, or attach burlap for a country chic look. Combine all three sizes or design others to create a captivating ambience for you and your guests.

SUCCULENT STYLE

These little plants are just too cute, and they also fill in the table arrangement with texture. Succulents come in a variety of shapes, are a versatile decoration, and are easy to care for. Extra bonus—these water-retaining plants won’t start wilting by the end of your special evening!

HOW TO GIVE YOUR CAKE

new mexico flair O

ne of the many pleasures of living and working in Santa Fe is that I can create wedding cakes that perhaps might not be appreciated elsewhere - take, for example, a “Day of the Dead” inspired or adobe house cake. I love to play with architecture and color. My job as a wedding cake designer is to give my client exactly what they want to see when they walk into their receptions and then some! Not to mention satisfying my own creative urges at the same time. It’s becoming more difficult to get a real jam going with brides as many nowadays are opting for an Internet-only relationship prior to their wedding day. This is not to mean that it can’t be done via email, but it takes so much longer and lacks the visual, handson, inspiration of an in-person meeting. I recommend an in-person meeting at least one time! At a design session/cake tasting, we can toss ideas around, look through wedding cake portfolios, design, re-design, and eat cake.

- 29 -

With so many wedding cake style options on the Internet, it can sometimes be difficult to sort through all of the cake photos the brides may send me to determine exactly what they particularly like about each cake. Every wedding cake designer has a different technique/style, and I’ve discovered that if I admire the design of a cake they’ve sent, we’re likely a go, but if they’re looking for a specific cake design and it doesn’t fit my repertoire, I’m best off declining, rather than doing a copy cake that I don’t feel fits my style. Just like any other vendor you want to make sure you select a cake designer that fits the style you want.

The first question I always ask is, “What do you visualize? What do you want to see when you walk into your reception?” I simply listen, take notes, and doodle on my pad. For example, over a decade ago, a prospective client visited my studio for a cake tasting. She said her parents lived here and she wanted to do a take on their home, since that was where the wedding was taking place. Would I visit their home and see what I thought? Voila! - the first adobe house wedding cake!

- 30 -

The inspiration for my cake (top left this page) came from the client’s desire to incorporate bold, bright Mexican folk art colors on her wedding cake, since the reception was taking place at La Fonda On The Plaza in Santa Fe. The inspiration for the handpainted tiles around the bottom tier comes from the beautiful hand-painted designs on the interior windows in the hotel. We further decked out the tiers with Mexican paper flowers, a gorgeous gold heart, red chile ristras, gold and white chocolate sacred hearts, and a bride and groom milagro.

The sculpted orange and sage/cactus green cake (next page bottom right) featuring cut-out cacti and flowers, succulents, and pincushion protea, followed the client’s desire to do something Southwestern wacky, fun and non-traditional, utilizing her overall color theme of orange and sage/ cactus green. As you can tell, my cakes can be a tad off the beaten aisle.

The white cut-out cake with three succulents was designed at a cake tasting and drew inspiration from the bride’s dress, the glass window above the door on the Loretto Chapel in Santa Fe where their ceremony was held, and a little Southwest accent with the succulents.

ASK THE EXPERT

These are just a few ways I have added southwest flair to wedding cakes! Who doesn't want some southwest sass on their big day?

REAL WEDDING

THE BEGINNING

Charles and Alissa through match.com! Lucky for us they immediately formed a connection when we met. Their date was on September 4, 2011 at O'Neil's Irish Pub. The first date lasted at least 8 hours. Charles and Alissa just didn't want to say goodbye and kept finding excuses to prolong the date. They are true best friends and soul mates. A day hasn't gone by that they haven't talked since our first date.

T H E P RO P O S A L

Charles and Alissa love the outdoors and Fall is one of their favorite times of year so he decided to propose on a bike ride on one of their favorite biking paths along the Rio Grande. Little did he know that it was also the Dia de Los Muertos bike ride in Albuquerque so the bike path was packed! They shared a nice PB&J lunch along one of the forest paths but he waited until there was a private moment for them to share. Along the path they stopped at a bench for water and Charles exclaimed that he had thought something was in the nearby bushes. While Alissa was walking to check it out he knelt behind her to her surprise her when she turned around. She said yes!

THE DRESS

Alissa was trying on dresses at Alfred Angelo when a helper brought her dress to the girl beside her and inquired if she wanted to try it on. To Alissa’s surprise the girl did not want to try it on and it caught Alissa’s eye. Once she tried it on she knew she had found what she had been looking for. Her girlfriends that came with her noted to her that the one thing she stated over and over while wearing it was “I love it”.

- 36 -

THE FOOD + CAKE

The wedding theme was a New Mexican fairy tale so Charles and Alissa wanted to have New Mexican cuisine. Los Cuates, a local NM restaurant, catered the event. They they decided on a fairly standard cake from Albertsons and beautified it with their own edible butterfly cake toppers.

F I R S T LO O K

They did decide to do a first look and were so glad they did. They were able to capture an intimate moment more fully. It also allowed Alissa and Charles to do some photos before the ceremony which meant they could get to the T H E F LO W E R S party sooner The couple found it to be more Alissa designed her own bouquet. It had cream meaningful than they originally thought. A roses, mini green hydrangeas, green hypericum, salal and her favorite flower a dark pink moment alone, just the two of them. stargazer. Charles’ mom designed the reception and ceremony flowers. She put a lot of hard work and dedication into making them look even better than the real thing.

B E S T A DV I C E

Alissa says, "Prioritize the areas that are most important to the bride and groom. We sat down and created a top five list for each of us outlining what we thought was most important for the wedding. We then consolidated the list into a top 3 overall and focused on those areas. It helped us prioritize and not over focus on stuff that wasn’t. We also would like to add that spending a lot of money isn’t really necessary FAVO R I T E M O M E N T S Charles My favorite moments included our to create a special and meaningful event. On officiate Matt leading our ceremony; having a small budget we were able to put money one of our best friends marry us was a great towards things we really wanted." way to make our ceremony special, he did an amazing job. THE FUTURE Alissa says, "We plan to take each day for the Alissa I loved the moment when we each read gift it is. We’re looking forward to sharing our personalized vows to one another. There more adventures together as husband and was not a dry eye in the garden. The first look wife, whether that includes whale watching in moment. It was intimate, sweet and exciting. Alaska or cuddling on the couch and watching our favorite shows. Down the line we also look forward to starting a family." B I G G E S T S P L U RG E The couple were really happy with Alicia as the photographer. They decided that investing in a good photographer was worth it. Now when they look at their pictures they are able to relive the joy they felt on our wedding day.

Floral Crown What you'll need:

PLASTIC FLOWERS MEASURING TAPE - OPTIONAL THIN GREEN WIRE

WIRE CUTTER HOT GLUE GUN - OPTIONAL FLORAL TAPE

F

loral crowns are all the rage. They’re fresh and clean, and oh-so-rustic. When a bride approached me, asking about floral crowns, I was a bit nervous because I had never created one before. After putting one together, I’ve gotta say, you don’t even need to be a master crafter to make one! It was simple, and turned out gorgeous. I might just make one for every occasion! Plus, I made it in less than an hour (maybe even less than 30 minutes – awesome!). Let me first start off by saying that I love fresh flowers. Who doesn’t? I know plenty of brides have gone the fresh flower route, but I actually think that a plastic flower crown can be just as lovely. Plastic flowers do have their benefits – they won’t wilt in the sun, and they can certainly stand the test of time!. Especially for floral corwns, plastic flowers might just be sturdier and the way to go! - 41 -

N

ow, choosing plastic flowers for your floral crown is very crucial. Make sure you choose colors and flower types that look good together. While at the craft store, I was certainly running around like a mad woman trying to find the perfect cream-colored flower to match the pink floral branch I had picked out. Since I wanted the crown to look realistic, I definitely geared myself toward higher quality (and occasionally a tad bit more costly), realistic plastic flowers. The bride wanted something pretty and understated, so I kept my flowers to a minimum. One of the most important things I looked for in a flower was one that had a nice long stem/branch. You don’t necessarily have to do this, but it will make your life a whole lot easier. First things first, measure your head. You can do this with a tape measure, but I simply took the branch, and formed it into an oval around my head. Once I thought it was a comfortable size, I took a piece of wire and started to wrap the wire on the overlapping part of the branch. Some of the smaller flowers may fall off – no worries, that’s what hot glue is for! Once I had made a full crown base, I began to cut the larger flower’s stem down. I actually struggled a bit here, because the outer plastic stem was a strange plastic, wrapped around a VERY thick wire. Now, find a place for the larger flower to go. I liked the idea of one big flower on the side (as though it were behind the ear) so I decided to arrange it on the right side where my ear would be. Adhere the big flower to the crown branch base with more wire. See? Almost done. Now, simply cover the larger wired spaces with floral tape. If you want, you can do this over all over the base of the crown, but I think it looks cuter if you can see parts of the branch throughout. Remember those smaller flowers that may or may not have fallen off? Now is the perfect time to whip out the glue gun, and cover any bare or unsightly spots. That didn’t happen to me, so I skipped this step. And there you go, a perfect

floral crown

Brides to be LINE UP AT THE BARRE E very bride wants to look and feel their best on the big day. In most cases, this means losing weight and specifically targeting those hard to reach areas where fat tends to cling no matter what we do. This is frustrating and leads women to believe there is just nothing they can do to reach those problem zones. Not true! Barre classes have exploded onto the fitness scene over the last few years and have become wildly popular with women of all fitness levels. BARREffect is an intense but highly achievable total body sculpting class that will create the long, lean dancer’s physique every bride is searching for. This barre-based workout combines pilates, yoga, ballet and dance principals to stretch, tone and lengthen muscles like never before. Each 55-minute class combines isometric

exercises and orthopedic stretches that challenge every muscle and burn fat like crazy while creating long lean muscles.

Fitting into that perfect wedding dress is attainable, but wishing and wanting won’t make it happen. Regularly attending a class like BARREffect will, however, go a long way to making this dream a reality. Also, consistency is key. Particularly if you’re not a gym regular, commit to attending a class at least five times before you decide it’s not for you. So what does a typical BARREffect class consist of? BARREffect class is a unique combination of ballet and pilates based moves paired with light weights. This is not a high impact cardiovascular workout. You will begin with a light but

- 44 -

effective warmup and then move right into upper body work. Light weights about 2-3 lb. are used to target and tone triceps, biceps and shoulders. What’s different about the BARREffect approach to toning these small muscle groups? The BARREffect method really zeroes in on the smaller muscles surrounding your main muscle groups. These small muscle fibers will strengthen to really enhance the sculpted appearance of the upper body without making you look bulky.

Next we move to barre and floor work to create the burn that you will learn to love! Legs, hips and booty are now the focus and what you can achieve with no weight resistance will amaze you! The actual ballet barre is used mainly for balance and form, so no tutus required!

With the same small isometric movements, you will make your way through each muscle group of the lower body working each muscle to fatigue. Incorporating deep stretches in between each intense sculpting sequence encourages muscles to lengthen, thereby giving us the lean muscular look rather than the more bulky one that most brides tend to avoid. Burn at the barre will become a mantra you will be very familiar with and you will soon learn that when the legs are shaking the change is happening! Finally, the focus moves to the core. As with every other element of the BARREffect workout, the core is conditioned thoroughly and to fatigue. Upper and lower abdominal muscles as well as obliques and back muscles are targeted to challenge your core and entire posterior chain. An encouraging and engaging instructor will guide you throughout the workout while offering options for modification and demonstrating proper technique which will allow you to get the most out of your time at The Barre. Why are BARRE classes such a craze? Simply put, it’s because they work! Many people report seeing results in as little as 3 weeks. Adding BARREffect to your current workout regimen, along with a sensible and healthy diet will most definitely have you wedding dress ready in no time!

The inn is elegant while remaining true to New Mexican heritage, and we are loving it.

New Mexico cuisine is fused with many cultures. Everything from Spanish, Mediterranean, Mexican, and Pueblo Native American. Your New Mexico wedding is a chance for you to share your favorite southwestern-style dishes and treats! There’s only one question to ask – red chiles or green?

APPETIZERS/SIDES D I P -A R I TA S

Give me some guacamole with salt! Serving guacamole, refried beans, salsa, and sour cream margarita-style adds a twist to these signature flavors of the southwest. This colorful appetizer can be served with tortilla chips or raw veggies, and you can even garnish the glasses with a lime slice and salt on the rim.

POPCORN

Popcorn is a tasty treat that’s fun to eat! Have you ever tried throwing a piece up in the air to catch in your mouth? Popcorn comes in a variety of sweet, salty, and spicy flavors to choose from and can even be coordinated with the colors of your wedding! Walker’s Popcorn Co. in downtown Albuquerque, New Mexico, offers yummy flavors, like caramel, cherry chocolate and red Chile cheddar.

JA L A P E Ñ O C H I L E P O P P E R S

Let’s spice things up! Jalapeño chiles are a famous chile and make for a tasty appetizer stuffed with cheese and deep fried. Jalapeño chile poppers are a fantastic choice for your southwestern wedding menu. Not only are they delicious but also easy to eat cowboy style – no silverware required!

STEAK KABOBS

DESSERTS

Time to fire up the barbecue pit for this grilled favorite - we’re talking about steak! Steak kabobs are an excellent choice for an outdoor summer party. Serving kabobs is a bite-size twist to a traditional steak option. If roasted with bell peppers, sweet onions, and baby potatoes, the whole entrée is right there on a stick!

E M PA N A D I TA S

How cute are bite-sized empanadas? Fill each pocket with chicken, beef, or pork, and beans and cheese. These small portions are bound to fit right in with the rest of the meal, and you can mix and match what flavors you like best.

G R E E N C H I L E B AC O N C H E E S E B U RG E R SLIDERS

A little bit of chile spice and the savory flavor of bacon are sure to please the crowd! Sliders are a perfect bite-sized entrée, and your guests can always go back for more until their appetite is fulfilled. If anyone is feeling braver, throw some spicier red chiles into the mix.

M I N I P I E S A N D TA RT S

Who says cake has to be the only way to satisfy your sweet tooth? Wedding cake is tradition, but you can also add another possibility to the menu. Mini pies and tiny tarts come in an assortment of flavors to choose from. The New Mexico Pie Company in Albuquerque serves their signature caramel apple green chile pies and more traditional flavors, like apple or blueberry. No matter which flavors you choose, you can never have too many desserts!

TRES LECHES

Tres Leches cake is a customary favorite and will give your guests a taste of Mexican culture. You can even top it off with maraschino cherries for a pop of red and added flavor. This cake is so sweet and moist – mmm! Three kinds of milk equal three times the deliciousness.

F RU I T K A B O B S

Here’s another kabob delight! Serve up fresh fruit on a stick drizzled with chocolate sauce or served with a yogurt dip. Strawberries, bananas, pineapple, and other fruits are a natural sweet and a fine choice for the dessert table. Guests can enjoy this simple dessert even in addition to a slice of wedding cake.

REAL WEDDING

THE BEGINNING

In the summer of 2008, I moved to Atlanta to attend Georgia Tech for grad school. I knew I would split teaching responsibilities with a coworker. What I didn’t know is he came with a cohort who never left Ryan’s side, Kurt Tyler. Luckily, I found Kurt to be hilarious and began to develop a crush on him. The weekend of Georgia Tech vs. Clemson game of 2008, things began to change from friendship to something more. While everyone was hanging out, my friend Lauren spilled the beans to Kurt regarding my crush. Conveniently, Kurt felt the same way, even though he was oblivious to my feelings previously. We officially started dating in November of 2008. Kurt ended up graduating in May of 2009 with his dream job position in Houston. It was at this time that I knew I really saw a future with Kurt so I ended up also moving to Houston in late 2009 to be with him.

T H E P RO P O S A L

Many of the vacations that Kurt and I have taken have been on snowboarding trips. One location that we were dying to try was Utah so Kurt suggested around Christmas that we try out Utah in February. On the last run of the second day, I stopped on the run to take a quick break and Kurt sat down next to me. He pulled the ring out of his glove and asked me to marry him. After, I asked him why he had waited so long into the trip to ask and he said he had gotten the advice from my parents (who got engaged on a ski lift). "Wait until the last run so you don't ruin a perfectly good day of skiing (with the excitement of the engagement!)".

THE DRESS

I ordered some in my size online, I went to a gently used wedding gown store, and I even went to a girl’s apartment to try on her couture wedding gown she was selling. In the end, I went the traditional route and bought a new dress from a wonderful boutique in Houston, where Kurt and I live. The minute I put on the dress, I knew it was the one. It fit our mountain wedding theme perfectly and it was “so me”.

THE FOOD

We had a plated meal of either chicken, steak, or trout. We didn’t have a specialty cocktail but did have an open bar. The dessert was a cinnamon chocolate cake with whipped cream frosting which was absolutely divine.

F I R S T LO O K

Yes, we did a first look mainly because of the timing logistics of the wedding. We were so lucky to have 58 of our closest family and friends travel so far to celebrate our wedding and we really wanted to spend as much time as possible with them!

FAVO R I T E M O M E N T

My favorite moment was of course marrying Kurt! But overall, the entire ceremony was just perfect and by far my favorite moment. One of my best friends got ordained to marry us and flew all the way from NYC to do so. We also wrote our own vows and they were so extremely special.

T H E F LO W E R S

The flowers were provided by Amy Nicole Floral Studios. She is an absolute genius. Her flowers were so beautiful. I choose peonies & succulents as I wanted to embrace the NM theme but I also adore peonies (we were lucky we got married in May so we could actually have peonies!)

FA M I LY T R A D I T I O N S Neither Kurt nor I’s families have big family traditions. The only one that comes to mind is a handkerchief that all of the women in my mom’s side of the family have carried on their wedding day (my grandmother, my great aunt, my aunt, my mother, my cousin, and

- 58 -

now me!). We also incorporated a treat that my grandmother used to always make when I was younger. They are called cheese straws and they are basically a slightly spicy cheesy cracker. My mom spent the entire month of May making 8+ batches so we could give our guests some in their welcome bags!

B I G G E S T S P L U RG E

The photographer. Tish was absolutely incredible to work with and the photos are proof of her love for wedding photography. She made us feel so comfortable and the pictures came out amazing. I’m so happy we went with her!

B E S T A DV I C E

Do not leave for your honeymoon the day after your wedding. All of your items are all over the place the next day and it’s nice to be able to collect all your things, spend some downtime with the family/friends still around, and get a good night’s sleep on Sunday. Then leaving Monday, you feel so much better and relaxed!

FAVO R I T E D E TA I L S

I think my favorite details of the reception were all the handmade items I spent weeks making. I designed the place cards and menus, made our guest book picture frame, all of the flower boxes, farralitos that were outside and all of the individual party favors – homemade chocolate covered caramels!. I also loved that the band learned an acoustic song for Kurt and I’s first dance!

THE FUTURE

ANYTHING ELSE?

The venue might have been one of my favorite things about the wedding. We knew from the start that we wanted a mountain wedding, so we immediately started looking in Colorado. My parents, who live in Santa Fe, were in Taos, and someone had recommended to them El Monte Sagrado. They went and immediately fell in love with it. The reception ballroom overlooks the mountains and everything about Taos just fit with Kurt and I.

Kurt and I decided to take a very short trip to California after the wedding, but we spent that time visiting friends and family and didn’t get much alone time with each other. We plan to take an official honeymoon over Christmas and New Years and will travel down to Patagonia in Chile to hike and explore our favorite thing – mountains!

e are breaking all of the rules with this bouquet shoot. Showing off our love for New Mexico in each of these vivacious floral arrangements by Margaret Bost at Santa Fe Floral. These bouquets were designed so that each would be unique in color and texture and showcase incredible depth and variation. Each bouquet contrasts beautifully against the blue, red, green, and yellow tiles of the Hacienda Doña Andrea and displayed some of our favorite New Mexico “flair” . From vibrant yellow Cymbidium Orchids to Saturated Purple Flowering Oregano, we have got at least one bouquet (if not all) to fit your style!

FLOWERS OF NEW MEXICO

HANDFUL OF SUNSHINE Includes Cymbidium Orchids and Crème de la Crème Roses Cymbidium orchids and crème de la crème roses are a unique combination for this bridal bouquet. The varying textures are brought together beautifully by the complementary shades of yellow and lime. This “sunshine-like” bouquet would be perfect to light up a spring or summer wedding!

QUEEN ANNE’S BOUQUET Includes Hydrangea, Phlox, Scubiosa, Queen Anne’s lace, Lysmachia, Lemon Leaves An elegant arrangement of Hydrandea, Phlox, Scubiosa, Queen Anne’s Lace, Lysmachia, and Lemon Leaves bundled together, this bouquet is nothing short of pure romance. A white bouquet with a white dress is a light, fresh, and traditional ensemble for a wedding any time of the year.

P E TA L S A N D C U R L S Includes Fern Fronds and Lysimachia This New Mexico bouquet has a uniquely rich, warm color scheme and multiple interesting textures. The purple, pink, and dark brown hues compliment one another beautifully, especially against the creams and whites of our gorgeous dresses. One of the most interesting features of this mix is the fern frond curls. We have never seen a bouquet quite like this one, and we are just smitten with it.

A great arrangement for delicate colored weddings, this pastel bloom and purple accent bouquet mimic a Santa Fe sunset. The Queen Anne’s lace adds a fine, feminine touch, and the poppy pods add interest and volume. Definitely one of our favorites against the adobe style architecture and bright blue doors!

SCENTS AND SUCCULENTS Includes Scented Geranium, Flowering Oregano, Eryngium, Succulents, Brezillia Berry, Safari Sunset, and Chocolate Cosmos This bouquet says nothing if not “autumn in New Mexico.” The dark red of the Chocolate Cosmos and bright orange of the Safari Sunset are in the same color pallet of the changing colors of the trees. FOR THE GROOM WAY S TO D R E S S YO U R 7 SOUTHWEST GENTLEMAN

A lot of attention is paid to the style of the bride, but, you know, the groom wants to look good on his big day, too! Cowboy hats, boutonnieres, and “beau-ties” are all southwestern details featured for a sharp-dressed man. He can show off his style as well!

B E AU -T I E S

Neckties and bowties add sophisticated touches to southwestern grooms. Neckties can be knotted in a simpler Traditional Windsor Knot, or in unordinary ways, like a Trinity or Eldredge Knot. The possibilities of patterns and colors for ties are endless to accent the boutonnieres or bride’s bouquet. A necktie is one opportunity to add flair to a groom’s getup with the many patterns and colors available.

BUCKLED UP

Whether etched with a simple design or decorated with “Grand Champion Steer,” belt buckles showcase craftsmanship of an artisan or even accomplishments of the groom. Details on belt buckles, like turquoise or different metals, are intricate and beautiful because of the steady hands that made them. Belt buckles are definitely accessories that add some sheen to the ceremony.

S Q UA R E D O F F

Pocket squares might come in handy in case of a runny nose, but are also a memento of the wedding day. Many patterns are available, like paisley or floral, to match the wedding’s color palette and theme. The bride can stitch a sweet message onto the pocket square, as a reminder of how much she loved him on their special day.

Boutonnieres add a unique detail to the groom’s getup. A cluster of old broaches, a succulent, or an accent color from a flower is a fun way to tie together the wedding party and express the personality of the bride and groom. Details like boutonnieres make the wedding memorable for the wedding party and guests. The flowers can also be dried as a keepsake for years after.

As the groom walks down the aisle after the ceremony and dances the night away, his socks might peek out from underneath his pants – another opportunity for a pop of color. Black, navy, or kaki socks are a clean look, but why not mix it up with bright red, stripes, or polka dots? Fun socks are just another statement for great wedding photographs and an outstanding wedding day.

FOR THE GROOM

SHINED UP

Like a marriage, cowboy boots are made to last. With age, the leather softens and stretches to form to your foot. There are many colors and styles to choose from – brown squared toed boots with red leather tops, black pointed toe boots with purple and orange stitching. There is bound to be a style that fits your groom’s fancy.

What looks sharper on a man than a cowboy hat? Cowboy hats can be personalized with unique details, such as creases or hat bands. Hat bands can be beaded turquoise or just a piece of leather with a small detail buckle. Straw hats look great in a summer wedding, and felt hats top off a winter wedding. And, your own George Strait will be waiting for you at the altar!

ORGANIZED WITH

DOTTED i’s & CROSSED T’s I’ve always been obsessed with office supplies. The organization freak that I am necessitates this. Color coding, to do lists and more importantly crossing items off my to do list are things I love. After all, as an Editor of this fabulous wedding magazine I have to stay organized!

I just love and adore my planner. I can toss it in my purse and stay organized. I am able to list the items I need to buy at the grocery store this week There is room to plan my week on the left and categories to write to do lists on the right. Our entire staff is becoming obsessed with these May Designs!

In terms of staying organized I have tried all sorts of planners everything from the big fancy ones that require their own bag to carry around to just the calendar on my iPhone. The problem is that electronically crossing off an item on my to do list, just is not the same satisfaction as crossing it off on paper. May Designs was kind enough to offer our office a few planners to keep everyone organized. I could not wait to dive into my glorious May Design planner.

You can customize the outside of your planner. Mine has a lovely “A” on it. I have never been big on monogramming but I do think it is rather cute on my planner. It also ensures that my planner does not get mixed up with the rest of our lovely editorial staffs May Designs!
