At Weddington

We believe that Christian discipleship happens best when we are connected with others through small group opportunities where we can encourage, care for and support one another, and be intentional as we seek to grow in life and faith.

We also recognize that everyone has their own starting point and pace, and that there are different seasons in life and faith. For that reason, you will find a variety of groups and opportunities with which to get involved.

This Adult Ministry Guide is designed to help you learn more about the opportunities available to grow in faith and find ways to connect with others through friendship, fellowship, special events, and serving opportunities.

If you have questions or would like to learn more about how to find a group or get involved, contact me at patsy.sorrell@ weddingtonchurch.org or call 704-814-1308.

As Kings opens, David is an old man, still on the throne, and it is now time for one of his sons to replace him. Kings is the study of the son of David, Solomon, who succeeds his father as king, and the descendants of Solomon who continue the monarchy. It is full of the ups and downs of Israel’s relationship with Yahweh. God’s loyal love for his people is tested over and over again. Finally Yahweh says “Enough!” and the results prophesied by Moses come into effect. Our study of Kings will cover the events of the reigns of the kings of Israel and Judah, and the ministries of the prophets Elijah and Elisha. We will also be looking at God’s reaction to all of this. Does he still display his loyal love? How is that shown? This 12-week study will help us to draw some lessons for our own lives.

The Characters of Christmas (Women)

TUESDAYS

10:00-11:30 a.m

HEMBY HOUSE Room 3

October 18December 20

The Characters of Christmas is a Bible study designed to take a fresh look at the Christmas story by getting to know the minor characters that played a part in Jesus’ birth, such as Zechariah and Elizabeth, the Shepherds, and Herod. As we slow down, engage our imagination, and enter into the stories of these men and women, we will see the most important character—Jesus Christ—with new eyes. Join us as we take a fresh look and discover new insights into God's amazing and miraculous story of his son, Jesus.

Colossians (Men)

TUESDAYS

7:30-9 :00 p.m.

HEMBY HOUSE Room 1

Ongoing

Paul’s letter to the Colossians was written from prison to the believers at Colossae who were under pressure and temptation to turn away from Jesus. Paul writes to address problems in the church, challenge them to examine their lives, and encourage them to focus on having a greater devotion to Jesus. Join us as we take a closer look at the Book of Colossians and consider how Paul’s message applies to our lives today. This group of men meets September through May for fellowship, Bible study, and encouragement. You may join at any time during the year. All ages are welcome.

WEDDINGTON Family Life Center

September 7May 17

Disciple I is a 32-week in-depth journey through the entire Bible, emphasizing the wholeness of the Bible as a revelation of God. The study draws upon the work of scholars, the personal Bible reading and study of the participants, a time of Q & A with Dr. Moore, and transformational spiritual growth. Disciple I meets for 34 weeks and involves approximately 30 minutes of daily homework. It’s an experience that will draw you closer to God and others as you journey together. Orientation will take place August 31 from 6:30-7:00 p.m. (online only). This in-depth Bible study shows how God made his presence known to his chosen people and how, in his perfect time, God made his presence known to the world. The group meets for 32 weeks and involves approximately 30 minutes of daily homework. Participant workbooks are $40.00 and can be picked up during the Explore & Connect Ministry Fair in Helms Hall on August 14, 21, and 28, or contact Angie Vollenweider to arrange to pickup in the church office. PASTORAL CARE & SUPPORT UPCOMING EVENTS

Wondering how you’ll survive the weeks surrounding Thanksgiving and Christmas? Are you dreading these holidays, knowing that everything has changed and that happy memories from past years can’t be recreated? Our Surviving the Holidays seminar is especially for people who are grieving a loved one’s death.

The holidays can be an especial ly difficult season for those who struggle with depression. Please join us for a one-hour suicide pre vention training program that will help you understand the common causes of suicidal behavior, recog nize the warning signs of suicide, and know how to get help for someone who is in crisis.

After separation or divorce, your Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays won’t look the same as they used to. Traditions change. Some family members won’t be there. Social gatherings can feel stressful. This special DivorceCare Surviving the Holidays program will help you feel supported and hopeful as you navigate this challenging season.
