Did you know . . . The condition of your skin’s surface layer is directly linked to how healthy, radiant and youthful your skin looks? When its surface layer is damaged, your skin may not be able to retain moisture, use its natural defenses to protect itself, and ultimately loses the ability to renew itself.

Arden Active Skincare introduces SUPERSTART Skin Renewal Booster, designed to boost skin’s natural ability to repair and renew.

THE POWER OF ONE This ultra-light, fast-absorbing formula works holistically to restore the healthy appearance of your skin’s surface layer for supple, smoother, more resilient and radiant skin.

Boosts your skin’s natural defenses A probiotic complex optimizes skin’s microflora to strengthen its natural defense. 82% of women agree that SUPERSTART makes their skin more resilient and resistant to irritation and damage.*

Boosts your skin’s ability to renew Sea fennel and flaxseed extracts reinforce the integrity of the skin’s barrier, fortifying its natural ability to repair and renew. 92% of women agree that SUPERSTART helps repair the look and feel of damaged or irritated skin.*

Boosts the results of your skincare products Used before a serum or moisturizer, it boosts the effectiveness of your skincare products. 95% of women agree that SUPERSTART boosts the effectiveness of their skincare products.**

THE POWER OF TWO SUPERSTART Skin Renewal Booster can dramatically improve the results of your anti-aging products. It is proven to boost the effectiveness of your anti-aging skincare products in supporting skin’s natural collagen, elastin and hydration, all of which are crucial to your skin’s renewal.***

SUPERSTART + PREVAGE® = Boost Protective and Corrective Anti-Aging Power Apply SUPERSTART Skin Renewal Booster before your PREVAGE® serum for better results in reversing the signs of aging skin such as lines, wrinkles and uneven skintone caused by environmental assaults.

As a wedding magazine that celebrates love and luxury, this month we want to highlight covetable objects inspired by romance. In my Editor’s Picks this month, you’ll find an array of gifts handpicked just in time for Valentine’s Day. Whether you choose to gift her (or yourself!) a delicate Jennifer Meyer necklace or a statementmaking Christopher Kane shift dress, any of these gifts are sure to be a welcome departure from the standard chocolates or flowers. If you opt for charitable gifting, you won’t want to miss our exclusive interview on page 10 with Beth Helmstetter of The Good Beginning, an innovative new site that allows couples to set up a gift registry to their charity of choice, in lieu of or in addition to traditional wedding presents. In the #wedluxetrending section (pg 46), we’ve highlighted the top trends that are popular on social media this month. From wisteria-filled wedding receptions (#WisteriaWedding, pg 50) to the new trend of adult #ColouringBooks (pg 48), you’ll see what the wedding and event planning industries are abuzz about. Speaking of Colouring Books, WedLuxe released our own hand-drawn colouring book last month, featuring illustrations inspired by the most luxe photoshoots from past issues of WedLuxe. You can purchase one of these limited edition books HERE while they last! In our planning meeting for this issue, my team and I had the foresight to choose Lavender as our trendspotter colour of the month (pg 8), which ended up being the hue that rocked the runways across almost every show at Couture Week in Paris at the end of January. To see all of the top looks from the most exclusive shows, be sure to read the runway report on page 32. You’ll want to take note, as we’re expecting to see many of these gowns hit the Academy Awards Red Carpet later this month! As always, we’ve styled fashion-forward looks for every bridal event you’ll have over the next year, from engagement party to wedding day, and paired them with our favourite luxury hotels and venues of the moment. If you’re looking for further bridal style inspiration, you will find the latest lookbooks from top international bridal designers starting on page 52. Is there a dress from our Runway Report that you’re currently coveting? Have a suggestion for next month’s Trendspotter Colour? We’d love your input! Use the hashtag #WedLuxeTrending on Instagram or get in touch with our editorial team to let us know what you think.

BETH HELMSTETTER of The Good Beginning For couples looking to do something a little different with their gift registry, The Good Beginning is the perfect choice. Charitable gifting is made easy in the form of an online donation registry, which allows guests to give monetary gifts to a couple’s charity of choice. WedLuxe spoke exclusively with Beth Helmstetter about what inspired her to create The Good Beginning, what charities are doing great work in the world and how to have a more socially and environmentally-conscious wedding celebration.

P RO F ESS I O N A L P RO F I L E

Tell us about The Good Beginning. What is it all about?

The Good Beginning is an online charitable donation registry where couples can register for gifts to their favorite charitable organization in lieu of or in addition to a traditional gift registry. You are a successful wedding and events designer. How did you come up with the idea for The Good Beginning?

I have an MBA with a focus on nonprofit administration and prior to the wedding industry, I actually worked in the nonprofit world for several years. With this being said, giving back is a big priority in my life personally and I’ve always wanted to find a way to tie both of my passions together. Throughout my years as an event designer and planner, many of my couples have requested gifts to non profit organizations instead of traditional wedding gifts, but it’s always been a logistical challenge to set up directly with organizations. After several times of trying to streamline this process, I realized there must be a better way, hence The Good Beginning. How does the donation process work? What percentage of donations is passed on to the cause?

Couples register for their wedding just like at Bloomingdales, Target, etc. They set up the registry, look through the organizations we’ve already preselected or can add different charities if they aren’t on the site yet. From there, the couple is given a personal domain name to their registry that can be passed on to guests individually or embedded into their wedding website or wedding app. Guests can then link straight to the couple’s registry or come to www.thegoodbeginning.com and search by the couple’s name. From there they make their donation and we handle the process of tracking all gifts and distributing funds as the couple and guest has allocated. Over 90% of every gift goes to the organization with the remaining funds going towards our staffing and administrative expenses. 12

What has the response been like from brides and grooms?

It’s been amazing so far. Several of the couples I have worked with are using the site and they’ve loved how easy and beautiful the interface is. We also have a handful of high profile couples that will be using the platform in the upcoming months that I can’t wait to brag about when the time is right. I think this will do wonders in bringing awareness to the impact that giving can actually bring your marriage. Your site also offers wedding design and bridal fashion inspiration that come from a socially and environmentally conscious place. Can you give our readers some tips for how they can plan a more conscious wedding celebration or honeymoon?

Being socially conscious for the most part is about doing the research on where products come from, how they are made and the philosophies of the companies behind the products and services they use for the wedding day. I personally am loving discovering things like great contemporary gifts from Local and Lejos that feed a family out of Mexico for a week, beautiful jewellery handmade by artistans in Nepal from Mulxiply, or non traditional but wedding-worthy gowns from designers like Elizabeth Suzann. Bow Ties for the guys from Rock Avenue provide college scholarships to at risk youth and so much more. I love how creative you can be with providing gifts to your guests or bridal party by researching items yourself or by working with gifting experts like Haute Hope and more. Of course, there’s always the option of making donations to charity in lieu of wedding favours and the like, but I also think tangible favours that are keeping women out of sex slavery are so meaningful and impactful. Tell us about some of the charities available on The Good Beginning.

The Good Beginning supports any charitable organization that the couple likes. We have highlighted a few on the site to get started, but it is open to all organizations.

15

P RO F ESS I O N A L P RO F I L E

What is your personal charity of choice?

I regularly support Mission of Hope which focuses on rebuilding the lives of the people of Haiti through poverty relief, education, healthcare and more as well as Southern Poverty Law Center which combats hate, racism and intolerance through education and litigation. What is inspiring you this month?

I’m so inspired by the work of Haute Hope, one of our contributors to The Good Beginning. This is a company that creates gifting for all occasions (including Valentine’s Day). Not only are her boxes absolutely stunning, but inside are gifts from all over the world that give back. Think pendants that pay a teacher’s salary for 6 months in Ethiopia, a basket that covers health insurance for one year in Rwanda or a pretty tea towel set that covers education for a child in India. Every item in her gift boxes are intentional and make the world a better place. They are the perfect option for anyone who loves design and also giving back. What is next for The Good Beginning?

We are currently trying to generate awareness for our registry for not only the couple that has everything, but also for the couple that realizes they have enough. My vision is not that this will only become a thing that is occasionally used, but something that becomes a norm for every couple registering. I believe this is a great fit for both the couple that doesn’t want gifts, as well as the couple that still needs a house full of items, but also wants to draw awareness and support to their favourite charity.

SAREH NOURI Set at a sprawling estate, the newest collection from Sareh Nouri is truly fit for a bride with a patrician sensibility. INBAL DROR Perched atop Central Park in an exposed corset or walking through the streets of New York City in a completely sheer gown, it doesn’t get sexier than Inbal Dror’s latest lookbook. The ultra-glamorous dresses feature detailed embroideries, unconventional necklines and silhouettes that are as fitting for the runway as they are for the aisle.
