Suits actor Gabriel Macht entrusted the experienced tailors at Garrison Bespoke with custom-creating his suit for the most important event of the year: The Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

MODERN VERSION OF A CLASSIC The morning suit is one of the most complex garments to create. Focusing on the details, the bespoke suit was made in an updated cloth and monochromatic palette, respecting tradition but also updating it through modern fabrication and a fit specific to Gabriel. The team at Garrison Bespoke sourced the fabric straight from England and made it by hand at their atelier in Toronto. Everything from the modernized waistcoat to the hand-stitched monogrammed handkerchief and necktie bearing the actorâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s initials, made this royal ensemble extra special.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

hristie Lau and Ian Kennedy first met while playing a game of Settlers of Catan with mutual friends. “I barely looked at him that evening, maybe because he was so cute or because I was embarrassed my friend and I had accidentally sent him a premature Facebook friend request,” remembers Christie. Though their first encounter didn’t involve much talking, Christie had made a lasting impression in Ian’s mind, and a month later, they went on their first date to a Toronto Raptors game. Ian’s epic proposal involved two of our favourite things: New York City and a puppy! While on a short trip to the Big Apple, Ian suggested they take a stroll through Central Park. They decided to go boating on the lake and it was on a rowboat that Ian got down on one knee and revealed a beautiful and classic diamond ring. The newly-engaged couple returned home to Toronto the next day, first dropping off their luggage at Ian’s apartment. Christie waited upstairs while Ian went down to the front desk, under the guise of retrieving his mail. In reality, he was meeting a friend who had been temporarily taking care of a three-month-old Bernese Mountain Dog puppy that Ian planned to surprise Christie with. The adorable pup was named Jupiter, “after the symphony I had always wanted to walk down the aisle to,” shares Christie. The wedding took place on August 18, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. Iris Li of BLUE LAVENDER EVENTS provided full-service planning and decor design. Given the bride’s occupation as an artist, it was only fitting that she be involved with designing the stationery for her wedding. MAISON MAQUETTE helped create the invitation suite, which featured grey marble detailing, one of Christie’s favourite techniques, and a custom gold monogram shaped like an albatross (the albatross is the bride’s favourite bird because they mate for life). Printed on the inside of each invite was a drawing of Christie’s family’s property, which served as the wedding venue. The ochre-hued ribbons that bound the invitations were handdyed with onion skins and coffee grounds foraged by the bride. Christie put her own artistic touch on her wedding and beautifully calligraphed and designed all day-of stationery.

Ceremony in Nature

Christie and Ian were wed in an outdoor ceremony at the bride’s family home. “We have these two beautiful curved staircases that lead to a circular piece of grass, where we placed the chairs for the ceremony,” shares Christie. To commence the ceremony, the groom and his parents, along with the bride’s mother and brother, and their wedding party, descended the garlandwrapped steps to a quartet from STEREOFLAVOUR playing “On the Nature of Daylight” by Max Richter. The bride’s grandmother and the couple’s ten child attendants in their custom gold and white outfits and handmade pearl headpieces followed. Finally, the bride and her father descended the stairs from the second floor to the melody of “Jupiter” by Gustav Holst. The ceremony was officiated by Jeremy Citron of ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE and included a speciallyselected reading about the albatross mating ritual.

“We were inspired by the fascinating behaviour of my favourite bird, the albatross. Albatrosses spend 95% of their lives in the air but return annually to their birthplace and the mate they have bonded with.” –CHRISTIE

In order to find their seats, guests had to pick an egg from the seating chart designed entirely by Christie. The unique seating-chartmeets-art-installation was a nod to the wedding’s albatross theme and consisted of an 8-ft tall board with over 200 marbled eggs adorned with each guests’ name affixed to it. According to the bride, “The egg seating chart was made with blown out eggs I had been eating since March. Guests had to break open their eggs to locate their ‘rookery.’” Encased in each egg was a slip of black cotton rag paper with that guest’s table number written in gold calligraphy.

Christie created the ultimate photo backdrop: a string light vaudeville-style moon. “It was inspired by our interest in space, my love of Sailor Moon, and my background in decorative mural painting,” shares the bride. The DIY setup even included a props table with body glitter (a reference to growing up in the ‘90s, says Christie).

Chinoiserie Chic

The tented reception, designed by BLUE LAVENDER EVENTS and SWEET WOODRUFF, was also held at the bride’s childhood home. Inside the dining tent was a mixture of round and gallery tables decorated with two of the bride’s favourite design details: mismatched chinoiserie plates and ochre-hued taper candles. The vintage dishware was complemented with gold flatware, while the caramel candles sat in brass holders and provided a warm glow throughout the tent. Finishing off the place settings, cut crystal glassware was chosen because of its significance and resemblance to Nova Scotian cut crystal, which was a gift the groom gave the bride’s parents from his hometown. All tableware was provided by PLATE OCCASIONS. The dining tent was draped in sheer ivory fabric by EVENTURE CUSTOM ENVIRONMENTS & EVENT DRAPING and according to Christie, “The tents themselves were very elegant and with the added draping, it pushed the wedding from bohemian midsummer night’s dream to formal garden party.”

For the reception, the bride removed her capelet and veil and had her hair pulled into a loose bun. Her whimsical hairpiece and hairpins were designed by Jennifer Behr and purchased at WHITE TORONTO. (Earlier that summer, Christie had visited WHITE TORONTO during their Jennifer Behr trunk show and met the designer in person, who styled the pieces into her hair exactly the way she wore them on her wedding day.) Catering was provided by ENCORE CATERING and included welcome beverages, canapés and cocktails, a four-course meal, and a late-night ramen station that was a special request from the bride. “Ian and I love to go for fresh mini donuts and ramen, so those two were our features for late-night snacks,” shares Christie. Madeto-order donuts were provided by DOUBLE CHOCOLATE FOUNTAIN. After their “midsummer night’s dream” wedding came to an end, the pair settled back into daily life in North York, where Christie is an artist at ANIMALAU STUDIO and Ian is a software developer. The couple has yet to embark on their honeymoon but plan to visit either Iceland or Africa in 2019.

The bar setup was one of the bride’s favourite elements of the day. “The blue chinoiserie vases with SWEET WOODRUFF’s arrangement of nectarine branches, holding our canvas bar sign on top of the Sonoma bars—when I saw that, I just fell in love,” recalls Christie.

Christie designed all day-of stationery, including table numbers, directional signs, bar signage, bar menus, and reserved signs. Table numbers featured calligraphy on watercolour paper, while table number holders were made out of rolled gum paste made to look like marble. Welcome sign, bar menus, and reserved signs were made from acrylic paint on raw canvas, and directional signs were made out of foam boards cut and painted to look like wooden ribbon banners. ryne Fuller met John Tavares at Henry Street High School in Whitby, Ontario. At the time, John, who is currently a professional hockey player for the Toronto Maple Leafs, was playing for the Oshawa Generals. Aryne was student council president and worked with special needs students on her lunch hour. John was peer-helping a special needs class and got to know some of the students well, and so sometimes at lunch, he would play ball hockey with the kids Aryne was working with. This is how Aryne and John’s friendship began. In 2009, John was traded to the London Knights organization and three years passed without any communication between them. In the summer of 2011, John visited an old teacher and asked about Aryne. At John’s request, the teacher passed John’s phone number along to Aryne, Aryne reached out, and the rest is history! The proposal took place in the backyard of the couple’s Mississauga home on July 28, 2017. “The backyard was a project we completed together a few years prior. We consider it an oasis and a place to relax and recharge,” shares Aryne. John knew this would be the perfect place to pop the question. One evening, Aryne’s friend (and future maid of honour) Sam asked if she and Bo (the couple’s mini Bernedoodle) wanted to go for a walk in downtown Oakville. As this is an activity the two often do together, she thought nothing of it and accepted. Meanwhile, John had told Aryne that he would have dinner cooked by the time she returned. A few minutes into the walk, Sam began complaining of a stomach ache and said she needed to go home. Aryne called John to let him know that she was on her way back to the house and when she arrived, she noticed Bo come to a standstill at the top of the entrance steps. Aryne looked around the corner and saw the back door rug covered in red rose petals. A sign hung on the door handle and read, “Come along with me, the best is yet to come.” Aryne walked around to the backyard and there was John, at the end of an aisle of rose petals lined with white candles. John’s cousin captured the whole proposal from behind the bushes and afterward, Sam showed up with champagne and pizza from the couple’s favourite restaurant, PIAZZA BISTRO. “The proposal was perfect for us and speaks to who we are as a couple,” says Aryne.

Picturesque Ceremony

Aryne and John were wed on August 4, 2018 in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario. Laura Atendido of LAURA & CO. EVENTS provided full event planning and design services for the couple’s epic celebration at PELLER ESTATES.

Aryne and John shut down PELLER ESTATES for the day in order to turn their dream of getting married at a winery into a reality. First up was the simple yet elegant outdoor ceremony, the focal point of which was a custom floral arch created by RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN. In keeping with the picturesque surroundings (the ceremony was held on the vineyard terrace, overlooking the gorgeous plantation), fresh roses and loose foliage were arranged in groupings, trailing down from the grapevine and branch structure. Two wine barrels stood at the entrance to the ceremony and were topped with fresh florals. The personalized ceremony, officiated by Reverend Derek Rymarchuk of THE WEDDING COMPANY OF NIAGARA, included a reading by John’s sisters and a love note exchange. “We wrote love notes to each other and sealed them in an envelope, which we then placed in a personalized wooden box with a bottle of wine. The hope is that we open the wine and read the notes on our fifth wedding anniversary,” shares Aryne.

Cocktail hour was held on the terrace of the BARREL HOUSE GRILL at PELLER ESTATES. During this time, guests were able to enjoy an ice wine tour offered by the venue. PELLER ESTATES provided passed canapés and a signature cocktail called “Blushing Bride” for the occasion. Drink signage was designed by PAPER & POSTE.

The open-air reception was held in a tent on the vineyard lawn at PELLER ESTATES. LAURA & CO. EVENTS collaborated with RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN to design a showstopping setup inspired by the beauty of the Niagara region. Trailing foliage was as far as the eye could see, the most stunning example being the suspended installation over the dance floor that looked like a massive floral chandelier. Made of mixed greenery, white wisteria, and hundreds of roses, the structure came to life below the fully draped ceiling by EVENTURE CUSTOM ENVIRONMENTS & EVENT DRAPING. Four crystal chandeliers provided by SIMPLY BEAUTIFUL DÉCOR hung down from the middle of the arrangement, adding a touch of glamour to the reception space.

During the dancing portion of the evening, guests were given custom t-shirts and tank tops from BLANKSTYLE to throw on over their dresses and shirts. The tops bore the word “Hummin,” a meaningful phrase between friends and family about enjoying life and living every day to the fullest. “We had planned for the shirts to be thrown off the stage and into the crowd to surprise all of the guests. It went as planned and everyone loved the tanks,” shares Aryne. There was also a box of OLD NAVY flip flops for women to dive into so they could dance all night long. An onsite cigar roller was provided by FRANK CORRENTI CIGARS LTD.

Aryne and John succeeded in curating the ultimate wine experience for their guests. Not only was their celebration held at PELLER ESTATES, but the day featured a wine pairing with each dinner course, ice wine tours for guests during cocktail hour, and an after-party in a wine cellar. For their honeymoon, the couple flew to Italy, where they visited Tuscany, Rome, and the Amalfi Coast. “Our honeymoon was magical. From the scenery to the food and culture, we were able to create so many memories together to start our marriage,” remembers the bride. Upon returning home to Mississauga, the newlyweds settled back into daily life, where Aryne is a physiotherapist and John is an NHL player for the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Nantucket Vibes The wedding theme, which extended to the stationery suite designed by PAPER & POSTE, was inspired by Nantucket. “Rachel Clingen’s interpretation of the Nantucket vibe was illustrated perfectly in our stationery and gave our guests a glimpse of what to expect at our wedding,” recalls Kristin. The invitations featured a floral envelope, soft blue colour palette, and motif of trailing roses. They also had customized wax seals and stamps, both of which had a finch bird on them, as an ode to the bride and groom’s soon-to-beshared surname (the bride also happens to be a bird lover, plus finches are popular on Nantucket— making this the ultimate design).

ristin and Stephen Finch first laid eyes on each other at church. Stephen was the pastor, who also happened to lead a small group gathering once a week. Kristin was looking to get more involved after having just returned from teaching abroad in England, and so she asked Stephen about joining his weekly group. Stephen immediately took down her phone number, and shortly thereafter, texted her with the details of the next meeting. Though Kristin was travelling and unable to attend the upcoming meeting, the pair continued to text. The text messages turned into phone calls and as soon as Kristin returned from her trip and came back to church, Stephen jumped into action. He walked right up to her, asked her on a date, and the rest is history! After a year of dating, Stephen knew that Kristin was “the one,” and so he began planning a seriously swoon-worthy proposal. He surprised Kristin with a day trip to the romantic island of Nantucket. As they were strolling through the quaint cobblestone streets, they turned a corner and a man appeared with an old antique car, asking the couple if they wanted a ride. Stephen quickly accepted, careful not to let slip that the whole encounter had been planned. The driver stopped at the end of a road in the little town of Sconset, where they could see the Sankaty Head Light in the distance. Kristin and Stephen got out of the car and started walking towards the lighthouse to get a better look. About halfway to the lighthouse, Stephen dropped to his knee and proposed. Through tears of joy, Kristin replied, “yes!” But the surprises didn’t end there! Just as she accepted Stephen’s proposal, she heard the snap of a camera go off behind her, so she turned around only to find the professional photographer Stephen had hired to capture the big moment. The photographer then took them on a private tour of the town, which included an impromptu engagement session at some of the most picturesque spots. Needless to say, “Nantucket became ‘our’ place and will never be forgotten,” shares Kristin. Kristin and Stephen said “I do” on July 6, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. Melissa Baum of MELISSA BAUM EVENTS provided same-day coordination, while RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN provided all floral and decor design for the big day.

Ceremony Notes

The ceremony was held on the grounds of CASA LOMA, where RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN

transformed the space into a fairytale garden by covering the venue’s existing gazebo in thousands of blush roses, foliage, and vines. Designed to look natural, overgrown, and reminiscent of the wild rose bushes found all over Nantucket, loose bouquets of blush and cream roses were interspersed with greenery and affixed to white chairs along the aisle.

Kristin’s oversized bouquet comprised a mixture of trailing roses in soft pinks and blushes, accented with greenery, and tied with a blue ribbon. All floral was designed by RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN.

Love + Faith

In addition to personalizing their vows, halfway through the ceremony, the couple took communion together. “Our faith is very important to us and we wanted to include this element to signify that God is the anchor of our relationship,” shares Stephen. “It was special because even though more than 100 of our closest friends and family were present, it felt like it was just the two of us in that moment.” During communion, Grammy Award-winning artist Israel Houghton performed a special rendition of “O Come to the Altar” at the grand piano. “What a perfect song at the perfect time at the perfect place—it felt like time just stood still and we felt such a deep sense of peace and love for each other,” says Kristin.

“We will always remember the strong fragrance from all the flowers, just as if you were in the town of Sconset, Nantucket. This floral display was incredibly beautiful and even beyond how we envisioned it during the planning.” –KRISTIN

After their first kiss as newlyweds, the couple walked down the aisle, dancing along to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours” by Stevie Wonder.

CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN was set up, allowing guests to create their own bouquets on the spot and take them home as wedding favors. All day-of stationery, including the flower market graphics, seating chart, and bar signage, was designed by PAPER & POSTE. Flower market graphics were produced and installed by EVENT GRAFFITI.

Fairytale Garden

The reception was held in the Glass Pavilion at CASA LOMA, which had been completely transformed into a wild rose garden reminiscent of Nantucket by RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN. Roses upon roses mixed with lisianthus, stock, and foliage were grouped together to create soft and romantic centrepieces. Airy white drapery from EVENTURE CUSTOM ENVIRONMENTS & EVENT DRAPING hung from the ceiling of the pavilion.

Life-size ficus trees were placed in the pavilion in order to give the feel of al fresco dining, while white wooden tables were used without linens for a clean and fresh aesthetic. Tables were provided by CONTEMPORARY FURNITURE RENTALS INC. Chairs supplied by DETAILZ COUTURE EVENT RENTALS.

FINE CAKES BY ZEHRA designed a cake for Kristin and Stephen to fit with their nautical Nantucket theme. The four-tier confection was embellished with blush rose sugar flowers and baby blue fondant on the bottom tier, which represented the ocean and skies of Nantucket, as well as matched the napkins and stationery at the reception. The lace pattern from Kristin’s wedding dress was also replicated on the bottom tier. For a truly unique flavour, the couple came up with the idea of using ruby chocolate (a new and rare variety of chocolate made with red cocoa beans to produce naturally pink chocolate). They ordered Ruby KitKat chocolate bars from the UK and paired it with a subtle rose flavour. The cake was served alongside late-night sweets prepared by CASA LOMA. A photo booth from MANGO STUDIOS was set up beneath the ceremony gazebo. After their dream wedding came to an end, the newlyweds set off on their honeymoon. Kristin and Stephen wanted to go somewhere tropical and they settled on Saint Lucia, where they stayed at the JADE MOUNTAIN RESORT. “The view from our room, nestled high up the mountain, was breathtaking, with the ocean on one side and the famous Pitons on the other,” remembers Stephen. The couple eventually returned home to Caledon, where Kristin works as an outreach director and Stephen as a campus pastor.

lashback to summer 2017, when Jay Klein was visiting New York City to look at real estate. He spent the season touring properties with his broker, who he eventually got to know quite well. At the end of the summer, his broker realized that Jay would be a perfect match for one of his oldest friends, Mara Kadish. After confirming Jay was single, the broker went into matchmaker mode, showing each of them a photo of the other and giving Jay Mara’s phone number. Since Jay lived in Toronto and Mara in New York, the first couple weeks of their relationship consisted of texts, phone calls, and Facetiming until the wee hours of the morning. Two and a half weeks later, Jay returned to the Big Apple, telling Mara to take out her Sharpie and mark him on her calendar for two days. The pair had their first official date at a fabulous vegan restaurant on the Lower East Side on September 12, 2017. “We talked, laughed, and ate until we were the last ones in the restaurant. It was a perfect date and history in the making,” shares Mara. In January 2018, the couple planned to spend a weekend in NYC at their mutual home away from home, THE EDITION HOTEL. As they were leaving the airport, Jay told Mara that he had received a message from the hotel and their room would not be ready until later in the day. At that point, Mara decided to stop at her apartment to take care of some things, while Jay said he was going to get a haircut (in reality, he was picking up the engagement ring!). A few hours later, Mara met Jay at the hotel, but when they tried to check in, the manager said he wanted to show them something special that no one else is usually allowed to see. Needless to say, Mara’s curiosity was piqued and she and Jay followed the manager into the elevator. They arrived at the top floor, then climbed a spiral staircase that finally reached a wooden platform. “We were in what felt like a treehouse at the top of Manhattan, literally in the clock tower of the building,” remembers Mara. The manager excused himself under the guise of taking a phone call, and it was then that Jay got down on one knee and asked Mara to marry him, with nothing but 360-degree views of Manhattan surrounding them. Their wedding took place on June 17, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario with JUDY STEIN CONSULTING providing full event planning services.

For a fun and casual touch, Mara, along with her bridesmaids, donned custom hand-painted denim jackets from WILDROSESHOPNY. “They were so much fun! My jacket had Mrs. Klein on the back, ‘Est. 6-17-18’ on the front, and under the collar read ‘wifey for lifey,’” shares Mara. As a special surprise for Mara, Jay had his suit collar embroidered with the phrase “Dream Come True.” “Jay has always told me that I am his dream come true, so to see it written in his tux on the day of our wedding, it was such a thoughtful detail,” shares the bride.

Fairytale Ceremony The couple’s traditional yet modern orthodox ceremony was held at THE OMNI KING EDWARD HOTEL. With its art deco vibe, the hotel’s Crystal Ballroom was the perfect location for Mara and Jay’s Gatsby-inspired nuptials. Jay’s family rabbi flew in from Palm Beach to marry them, making the celebration even more special. For the ceremony, ARTAM DESIGN INC. and DANCE FLOOR DÉCOR created a simply stunning setup, made up of rich gold accents, a graphic black and white floor, and multiple over-the-top floral installations Their unique chuppah consisted of two 14-ft floral arches in front of a round floral wall, the circular shape of which “represented infinity and our forever bond,” says Mara. The all-white colour scheme was brought to life with French peonies, garden roses, orchids, and hydrangea. Connecting the two arches from above was Jay’s grandfather’s tallit.

A Sweet Soirée

igh school sweethearts Michelle and Mark Cundari began dating as teenagers and according to the bride, she knew he was “the one” the day she met him. “There is no swoon-worthy story to how we met, we were just two kids that fell in love at school and the rest is history,” insists Michelle. After ten years of dating, Michelle thought she would know exactly when Mark would pop the question, but boy, was she wrong! The couple travels all the time for Mark’s work (he is a professional hockey player), so she assumed the engagement would happen on one of their trips abroad. Instead, Mark proposed at their apartment in Toronto. “It was simple, relaxed, and romantic. It was a true reflection of who we are and it embodied what means the most to us—home and each other,” shares Michelle. The couple tied the knot on June 16, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. No stranger to the wedding industry (Michelle is the owner of both FANCY PUFS ORGANIC COTTON CANDY and SINCERELY YOURS EVENTS), the bride planned the celebration herself. “Planning my own wedding was such a surreal experience! The best part about putting the wedding together was switching roles with my clients and experiencing the planning process from the bride’s side. If I could be a bride every single day, I would,” shares Michelle. RDT EVENTS + BEAUTY was hired for same-day coordination to ensure everything ran smoothly on the day-of. The invitation suite was inspired by custom velvet folios Michelle had purchased long before the design process began. She knew she wanted to incorporate velvet into the wedding, and decided this was the perfect way. The fresh summertime ceremony was held in the Conservatory at CASA LOMA. “Mark and I were in love with the castle the moment we set eyes on it! The space was intimate, unique, and full of life,” shares Michelle. Despite the historic venue, the bride wanted the ceremony to have a modern twist in keeping with the reception design, and so she came up with the idea of a large metal arch. RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN ran with this idea and accented the metal structure with clusters of white garden roses, lisianthus, spray roses, and greenery. The aisle was lined with more fresh white blooms and guests sat in white Louis chairs. “The space was filled with our closest family and friends and we recited our vows under the prettiest floral canopy from Rachel Clingen. It was a dream come true,” recalls Michelle.

A post-ceremony luncheon was held at CASA LOMA and catered by SPLASH CATERING on behalf of CASA LOMA and LIBERTY ENTERTAINMENT GROUP.

Happiness is Sweet

Guests made their way to CHATEAU LE PARC for the reception. Upon entering the second venue of the day, they were welcomed by a statement seating chart from SO PRETTY IN PRINT framed by the same floral-covered metal arch used at the ceremony. Beside the oversized seating chart was an ultra-fun cotton candy wall from FANCY PUFS ORGANIC COTTON CANDY. The epic Fancy Pufs wall was built by Mark as a surprise for the bride. According to Michelle, “He knew that it was important for me to incorporate my business into the big day and found a unique and brilliant way to do it.”

The idea was to have each angle of the room mirror the other, and no two sides were different,” shares Michelle.”

As a lover of lush florals and fun girly accents, it’s no surprise that Michelle’s favourite design detail was the hundreds of hanging roses suspended from the ceiling. Creating a romantic canopy over the guest tables and dance floor, multiple installations of trailing greenery with individual white roses affixed to them hung from above.

It was here that Michelle had her father-daughter dance, which was one of her favourite moments of the day. “A year before the wedding, I found a video of me and my dad dancing when I was four years old. In the video, I wore a white dress and we danced to our favourite song, ‘Isn’t She Lovely’ by Stevie Wonder,” shares Michelle. When the pair got up to dance on her wedding day, she surprised her father by playing the video in the background. “It was such a surreal moment for me then and now. It gave the entire room all the feels!” The fun was captured on film by TVE PRODUCTIONS INC. The newlyweds jetted off to Japan and Indonesia before settling back into their daily life in Kleinburg, where Michelle is the owner of FANCY PUFS ORGANIC COTTON CANDY and SINCERELY YOURS EVENTS and Mark is a professional hockey player for Eisbären Berlin.

Simon surprised Bubu with a day trip to the majorly Instagrammable Pink Sand Beach on Harbour Island. The proposal came as a total surprise to Bubu, who had no idea that as they were walking along the cotton candy-hued beach, Simon had an engagement ring hidden in his pocket and a photographer had been following them, prepared to capture the big moment. As the sun was setting, Simon said he had something he wanted to tell Bubu, and after telling her how much he loves her, he presented her with a round cut diamond ring from TIFFANY & CO. Bubu and Simon were wed on August 8, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario at GRAYDON HALL MANOR. Emma Ye of LOVEVER WEDDINGS provided full event planning and design services. The soft and romantic setup consisted of a four-post canopy covered in blush draping from SUSAN MURRAY INTERNATIONAL with large clusters of flowers and greenery by ALETHEA WEDDINGS. The florals were made to look as though they were naturally growing from the canopy, in order to bring the “blooming garden” theme to life. Complementary arrangements of pastel roses and white orchids in white urns sat on top of pillars and lined the aisle. In one of the most special moments of the day, Bubu and Simon read aloud their personalized vows, which had them both in tears. A trio from WELLINGTON MUSIC performed throughout the ceremony. The reception further evoked the fairytale garden theme of the day. ALETHEA WEDDINGS created sculpted floral arrangements on tall clear stands and low hedges of blush roses and greenery interspersed with white pillar and taper candles. Round tables also had bouquets of white tulips in glass vases for an elegant touch. The head table had the most lavish design of all: a garland of pastel roses and greenery running along the front, with four oversized arrangements in back. Immediately in front of the couple sat the white four-tier cake prepared by BLOOM CAKE CO. It was decorated with fresh flowers that complemented the rest of the floral and decor. Bubu and Simon’s first dance was one of their favourite moments of the day. The bride changed into a White by Vera Wang ball gown from DAVID’S BRIDAL for the occasion, one they had prepared for in advance by learning to waltz. Not only did they waltz, but they sang a duet (“City of Stars” from La La Land), accompanied by Simon’s brother on guitar. Each guest took home a bottle of ice wine from JUICE 2 WINE INC. Favor packaging was designed by PAPERLAND. The couple currently resides in Vaughan, where Bubu is a clinic manager and Simon is a business owner.

All eyes were on the luxurious sweetheart setup, which consisted of an intricate, candlelit canopy that framed the head table. At the base of each post was a grouping of natural foliage, and suspended from the centre of the structure’s roof was a floral installation made of more greenery and white wisteria. Antonette and Julian sat in rattan Louis chairs at an elongated white table from DETAILZ COUTURE EVENT RENTALS.

“Julian and I wanted the rattan chairs to keep with the modern look but also to tie into the golf course venue feel,” recalls Antonette.

Antonette and Julian’s favourite part of wedding planning was cake tasting. The pair settled on a fourtier cake from NADIA & CO~, decorated with an edible lace pattern mimicking Antonette’s gown and delicate peach-hued sugar flowers. Unable to choose just one, the cake consisted of three different flavours: earl grey with vanilla bean cream and lemon curd, white vanilla bean with champagne ganache and strawberries, and chocolate with salted caramel cream and honeycomb. ELLE & BE FILMS provided their cinematography services. The sleek white dance floor was produced and installed by EVENT GRAFFITI. A nine-piece band from SENSATION LIVE MUSIC performed at the reception. Overall, the couple’s wish for “an elegant and magical evening” certainly came true. After a romantic honeymoon in France and Italy, the couple returned home to Richmond Hill, where Antonette is a teacher and Julian is a software sales consultant.

espite attending the same high school trip to Italy, Andrea Jammehdiabadi and Daniel Battiston’s romance didn’t begin until nine years later, when they reconnected through a mutual friend in 2012. “Once we were reintroduced, we quickly hit it off and have been dating ever since,” says Andrea. Five years later, Daniel was planning a proposal fit for a Disney princess. Two days before Andrea’s 30th birthday, he invited her for dinner and to the Beauty and the Beast exhibit at CASA LOMA, which he knew she wanted to attend. Daniel’s family is close friends with the Di Donato family, the owners of LIBERTY ENTERTAINMENT GROUP, and so they kindly agreed to prepare CASA LOMA’s bridal suite with candles and a single rose encased in a glass cloche (similar to the film). As they were walking around the exhibit, Pat Di Donato asked if they wanted to see the bridal suite, saying that it had been set up for the Disney executives. When they walked in, Daniel got down on one knee and proposed. Their parents were waiting outside with champagne to celebrate and Disney Canada even posted the memorable moment on their Instagram account! Andrea and Daniel’s wedding took place on June 16, 2018 in Toronto, Ontario. Christina Mastruzzo of TEA FOR TWO EVENTS provided full event planning and design services. Andrea and Daniel tied the knot in a traditional ceremony at SAINT CLARE OF ASSISI CATHOLIC CHURCH. As they were both raised Roman Catholic, it was important for the couple to exchange vows in front of their family, friends, and God. They even wrote a special prayer that they read aloud to their guests for the occasion.

Andrea’s organic, garden-inspired bouquet featured anemones, spray roses, quicksand roses, and lots of greenery, and was created by ROYAL ORCHID FLORIST, who provided all floral for the celebration.

The bridesmaids wore grey off-the-shoulder gowns designed by Katie May and purchased at PEARL BRIDAL HOUSE. The maid of

Wild Garden

The reception was held in the Governor’s Room at LIBERTY GRAND ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX, where the bride’s “vintage secret garden” theme came to life. Andrea was inspired by a floral wallpaper she came across, which she later used to decorate the room she got ready in at her parents’ home. “Made up of large, lush pastel florals, we used this wallpaper as our decor foundation and extended it from there through gold and mirrored accents, while maintaining a clean and modern feel,” shares Andrea. To create a vintage garden aesthetic, flowers played the biggest role. Upon entering the ballroom, guests were wowed by the abundance of florals from ROYAL ORCHID FLORIST in shades of lavender, taupe, and pink. Wild and loose foliage accented all arrangements and brought the outdoors in. VIP gallery tables featured crystal candelabras with white taper candles and garlands made of greenery and pastel flowers that spanned the length of tablescapes. Guest tables alternated between low arrangements surrounding a crystal candelabra and tall arrangements atop crystal stands. Crystal accents contributed to the clean and modern aesthetic that the couple wished for, to balance out the vintage style.

The head table was truly a sight to behold, with a metallic gold trellis backdrop from EVENT GRAFFITI covered in overgrown greenery and fresh cream and blush blooms. Lush floral arrangements also ran along the front edges of the head table and the sweetheart stage, built by PLATINUM ENTERTAINMENT SOLUTIONS.

After a dinner catered by LIBERTY GRAND ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX, guests were treated to mini donuts, also from LIBERTY GRAND ENTERTAINMENT COMPLEX, and popsicles and ice cream sandwiches from SWEET SAMMIES. SWEET SISTER CHIC SISTER prepared the couple’s four-tier wedding cake, which featured handpainted florals to reflect the secret garden theme. In lieu of wedding favors, Andrea and Daniel decided to make a donation to St. Michael’s Hospital, Pituitary Gland Tumour Research. However, as a small token of their appreciation, they gave each guest a package of stuffed dates from DAITS BAR. “These were a nice tie-in as they represented Andrea’s Persian heritage,” shares Daniel. The custom dance floor, designed by SO PRETTY IN PRINT and produced by AXE MEDIA GROUP, featured the couple’s monogram and the same floral motif as the invitations. Photo booth was provided by PORTRAITS ON WHITE. Guests danced the night away to live music performed by SOULAR. For Andrea, one of the most memorable moments of the evening was when the band called her onstage to sing an impromptu song, “Valerie” by Amy Winehouse (her favourite!). BLUE DAIZY FILMS provided their cinematography services. For the perfect mix of fun, adventure, and relaxation, the newlyweds embarked on a honeymoon to Hawaii and California after their wedding. Throughout their trip, they visited the Big Island, Maui, Kauai, Santa Monica, and San Francisco. The couple currently resides in Woodbridge, where Andrea is a teacher and Daniel is an accountant.

Kejal always dreamt of having an organic, garden-inspired bouquet with cascading foliage, soft pastel hues, and a punch of deep burgundy to mark the traditional colour for an Indian bride. SARA BAIG DESIGNS, who provided all floral and decor

for the wedding, made this dream a reality. The bridesmaids wore coral-hued saris with gold detailing, purchased in India.

Urban Edge Meets Modern Sophistication

that blended modern design with the traditional elements of an Indian wedding.

Chris participated in the traditional groom’s procession (baraat), but opted to do so accompanied by an African drum group from ALPHA RHYTHM ROOTS instead of a

customary dhol.

The outdoor ceremony was held overlooking the pond. Seeking to bring together their East Indian and

ejal Shah and Chris Dunn met in Atlanta, Georgia in 2014. Kejal had just relocated to Atlanta for work, and while she was out on the town one night, they crossed paths at HAVANA CLUB, where Chris happened to be celebrating his birthday. As if it were fate, the two locked eyes from across the room and struck up a conversation. Chris promised to show Kejal around the city and after meeting for dinner the following week, sparks flew and the two have been inseparable ever since. Roughly two years later, Chris was putting the plans in motion to propose. He had pulled out all the stops to ensure it would be one of the most beautiful evenings of Kejal’s life. At the time, Kejal was living in Tennessee and Chris in Atlanta, and although he usually drove the four hours to visit her on the weekend, this weekend was different, and so he asked Kejal to meet him in ATL. When she arrived, Chris told her he had to meet a client at the ATLANTA BOTANICAL GARDEN, so they headed over and took a stroll through the picturesque gardens (little did Kejal know, Chris had hired a photographer who was already taking photos of them from afar). Ten minutes later, they reached the atrium of the Orchid Center (orchids are Kejal’s favourite flower), and it was here that Chris proposed. The cocktail hour was held in Koerner Gardens at EVERGREEN BRICK WORKS. Guests were invited to help themselves to one of two signature welcome drinks (sparkling water with basil, watermelon, and lime for her and mintinfused lemonade for him). A DJ from EMPIRE ENTERTAINMENT played a carefully-selected global playlist that the groom had spent months curating. It included an array of international music, including samba, Afro-Cubano, and bossa nova beats. BY PETER & PAULS prepared the passed hors d’oeuvres, which ranged from avocado fries and puffed rice salad to grilled cornbread and buttermilk cauliflower with waffles. There were also three food stations set up on-site: a gourmet cheese station with artisan crackers, crostini, fruit, and nuts, an Indian food station with achari paneer tikka and samosas, and a salad station with mango and black-eyed peas salad bowls.

Before making their way into the CRH Gallery, guests found their assigned seats at the oversized marbled seating chart from LOVE, PAPER & INK. The seating chart was situated beside a table with the couple’s unique guest book—a slab of wood that guests were asked to sign with silver and gold permanent markers. It was purchased from RECLAIMEDOREGON.

For the evening reception, Kejal changed into a deep blue sari by Indian designer Shyamal & Bhumika, while Chris donned a tuxedo from ANDREW’S FORMALS.

The couple’s “city chic”-themed wedding truly came to life inside the CRH Gallery, where multiple design styles converged. SARA BAIG DESIGNS created an aesthetic that spoke to Chris’ modern, urban style, as well as Kejal’s love of soft, rustic, and romantic decor. Blue jewel tone napkins, burgundy taper candles, gold flower stands, and gold Grace chairs from DETAILZ COUTURE EVENT RENTALS added touches of warmth to the industrial space. Meanwhile, geometric, diamond-shaped menus and marbled table numbers added to the urban chic vibe. BY PETER & PAULS prepared a three-course meal, served family-style, that was the perfect blend of Indian cuisine and Southern comfort food. Bringing together the couple’s East Indian and African American backgrounds was something they had always envisioned for their wedding. “This was reflected in the ceremony we designed together with our two officiants, conducting both an Indian and Christian ceremony, the traditional Indian baraat (groom’s entrance) that I opted to do with an African drum group, and the delicious fusion food we served, a mix of Indian and American Southern cuisines,” says Chris. The couple’s nine-day honeymoon to Italy marked their first trip outside of North America together. Upon returning home to Cliffside Park, New Jersey, the newlyweds settled back into daily life, where Kejal is an HR business partner and Chris is a client success executive.

The cosmopolitan theme was taken to another level with the dance floor. The fun and funky design that mimicked the day-of stationery made a major statement against the concrete floors. It was designed by LOVE, PAPER & INK in collaboration with SARA BAIG DESIGNS and installed by DESIGNER DANCE FLOORS. EMPIRE ENTERTAINMENT provided a DJ for the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception. OUTSIDE IN STUDIO provided their cinematography services.

manda Corsetti and Anton Farrage met at a charity event nine years ago. Anton’s friend was performing at the MOD CLUB, a spot that Amanda frequented because one of her friends worked there. Although they connected from the moment they met, it took a couple of years for the pair to start dating. “As cliché as it sounds, by the time we got to know each other, we knew we were meant to be,” shares the bride. Many years later, Anton had come up with the most adorable proposal imaginable. Amanda owns a childcare centre and each day, buses stop and drop the children off. One day, Anton hopped onto one of the buses and gave the children letters spelling out “Marry Me?” When the bus arrived at the daycare centre, Amanda was there waiting for the children. One of the kids caught her attention by yelling, “Hey, Miss Amanda!” She turned to look and saw the children holding up the signs, which is when Anton appeared at the door with 48 pink roses. Amanda was in utter shock and dropped to her knees. Anton approached her and joined her on his knees, asking her to marry him. Without hesitating, Amanda accepted. The couple got engaged on May 10, 2016, which also happens to be the groom’s late mother’s birthday. “The main priority of our wedding was dedicating it to Anton’s mother, Donna. She passed away in September 2015 and we made it clear that this was all for her. From the proposal on her birthday to getting married on her wedding anniversary, we made sure she was present every step of the way. ” shares Amanda. After nearly a decade together, the couple wed on June 9, 2018 in Woodbridge, Ontario. Jessica Pompeo of JSP AND CO. provided full-service planning and design assistance. The Catholic ceremony took place at IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH. The officiant, Father Eugene, incorporated many of the couple’s favourite songs into his homily, including “God’s Plan” by Drake. Friends Tamika and Kevin performed live, singing Anton’s mother’s favourite hymn, as well as “Love On Top” and “XO” by Beyoncé as a nod to Amanda’s love for Queen Bey. Floating candles were set up at the end of each table for a romantic touch. Amanda and Anton dined on an elevated stage from PLATINUM ENTERTAINMENT SOLUTIONS with a seriously gorgeous, 18-ft backdrop. Behind them was a series of gold barbacks from DETAILZ COUTURE EVENT RENTALS filled with votives, lush foliage, and petite bouquets of white florals and more greenery. The head table water glasses from JSP AND CO. had an “X” and “O” in brushed gold, as a nod to the Beyoncé song. Gold vases were also provided by JSP AND CO. As a gift to the bride and groom, JSP AND CO. and RIGHT CHOICE LINEN RENTAL & DECOR added a small gold-rimmed box filled with fresh flowers to the head table place settings. In lieu of a traditional guest book, Amanda and Anton opted to have guests sign customized basketball jerseys with their new married last name (the couple has a strong passion for basketball and attend games monthly!). As guests arrived, they were photographed by MICHAEL FRANCIS PHOTOGRAPHY. Their photos were then printed and placed in a frame from IMPORTER’S GIFTS chosen by Amanda and Anton. Later in the evening, guests found their framed photos in the lobby for them to take home. CORINNE MCDONALD FILMS provided their cinematography services. The couple embarked on the honeymoon-of-alifetime, visiting Naples, Positano, Mykonos, Santorini, Istanbul, and the Maldives. After 21 days of travelling, they returned home to Caledon, where Amanda is the owner of a childcare centre and Anton is a mortgage broker.

Little did they know then that five years later, they would be returning to this picturesque Muskoka lake for their wedding. Greg proposed to Lindsay on October 28, 2017 while the two were on vacation in Sedona, Arizona. They were sitting on a bench overlooking the valley, drinking a bottle of pinot noir, and watching the sunset when he popped the question. Lindsay and Greg were married on September 8, 2018 in Seguin, Ontario. Ashley Pigott of ASHLEY PIGOTT EVENTS provided full-service planning and according to Lindsay, “Ashley and her team were absolutely amazing and made everything run so smoothly. They were always there if anyone needed anything!” The couple said “I do” in a short ceremony held on Bungaymena Island, Muskoka (a private island on Lake Joseph owned by Lindsay’s family). The bride wanted a location that was pretty but still natural and not overdone.

The ceremony arch designed by RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN was created to look asymmetrical, almost as if it had grown there, and was covered in groupings of white flowers and vines. The union was officiated by Mike Scholte and included two readings about love, although all Lindsay could remember was Greg stroking her hands throughout the entire ceremony.

In true Muskoka style, Lindsay and Greg’s wedding reception was not held beside the lake but on it! Guests dined on two barges floating off the dock on Bungaymena Island and according to the bride, “It felt like you were in the middle of the lake!” RACHEL A. CLINGEN WEDDING & EVENT DESIGN created a memorable floral design that would not take away from or obstruct anyone’s view of the gorgeous lake. Lush garlands of lisianthus, roses, and mixed greens, accented with pretty blue tweedia, lined gallery tables. The “made for Muskoka” look even included a vintage canoe belonging to Lindsay’s father that was suspended over the head table by FIREDOG CREATIVE and draped in flowers and foliage. 138

Guest takeaways consisted of fresh blueberry jam from HEWITT’S OF MUSKOKA with custom labels by PAPER & POSTE, while the four-tier blue and gold cake from TRUFFLE CAKE & PASTRY was adorned with sugar blueberry branches. The three-course meal prepared by FLYE CATERING included blueberry tarts with whipped cream and fresh berries for dessert, and finally, the couple’s signature drink, designed by ASHLEY PIGOTT EVENTS, was a blueberry basil mojito. For their honeymoon, the newlyweds traded one island for another, jetting off to picturesque Korčula, Croatia. The couple enjoyed the warm weather and turquoise waters, before returning home to Midhurst, where Lindsay is an investment analyst and Greg is a realtor.
