auren Hemer and Eliot Raibl met on a cold winter’s day in March 2009. Lauren was attending the University of Victoria at the time, and Eliot was playing hockey in BC. A friend of Eliot’s invited him to a party in Victoria one weekend. Little did he know that the person throwing the party would be his future wife, Lauren. Though Eliot knew no one at the party except his friend Jeff, Lauren kindly offered him a drink and they got to talking. Along the way, they discovered that they had actually attended many birthday parties together as toddlers. Before leaving, they exchanged numbers and continued to text for a few weeks, before Eliot finally asked Lauren out on a date. Flash forward to spring break 2017. Eliot knew he was ready to take the next step, and so he whisked Lauren off to Whistler, BC, which he thought would be the perfect place to propose, as it was where he first told Lauren that he loved her. He planned a romantic sleigh ride up Whistler Mountain that finally arrived at a hilltop. It was here, surrounded by fluffy snow and picturesque mountains, that he popped the question. Lauren and Eliot tied the knot on August 11, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Aly Armstrong of ALY ARMSTRONG EVENT PLANNING & DESIGN provided full event planning and design assistance. “We interviewed several wedding planners but found Aly to be the most aligned with our vision. She was very attentive and has outstanding taste; we loved everything she suggested and she has the kindest heart,” shares Lauren. All rings were designed by Naseem Verjee, a family jeweller.

were arranged in a semi-circle beneath a marquee tent provided by APEX TENTS.

“The pinnacle of planning the wedding was walking down the aisle at the ceremony and walking through the doors at the reception. Seeing our vision come to life and having all of our most important people in the same room was the most incredible and humbling experience of our lives.” - E L I O T

In lieu of place cards, personalized marble coasters with silver calligraphy by EMILY CUTHBERT DESIGNS served as guest favors. Personalized cocktail napkins

were sourced from WEDDINGSTAR. RAILTOWN CATERING prepared all food for the day, including canapés during the cocktail hour and a three-course meal for the reception.

Boarding pass escort cards were designed by ALY ARMSTRONG EVENT PLANNING & DESIGN and hung with ribbon on a gold room divider from THE CROSS DECOR & DESIGN. Instead of table numbers, signage listed a station

number and a city. The couple had a special connection to several of the cities listed, including San Diego, Rochester, and Vancouver, all of which they had lived in previously. “We’ve had the unique opportunity to have a relationship that has spanned three cities and two countries and throughout the years, we have created close friendships with people that have become family. We wanted everyone to feel the connection and love that both Eliot and I have for one another and for everyone important in our lives,” shares Lauren.

All Aboard

The couple chose a rather unique venue for their reception: a train station! ROCKY MOUNTAINEER STATION was completely transformed into a glam-meets-contemporary floral wonderland for the occasion. Three different spaces were created within the train station, thanks to the use of sheer white draping from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. First, the cocktail reception took place on the train platform and featured a bar and lounge area with furniture from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. Second, a dining area covered from top to bottom with fresh flowers was set up indoors. Last but not least was the dancing area, which featured the dance floor and another cocktail lounge complete with arcade games and a band.

On the train-platform-turned-cocktail-lounge, guests were greeted by a statement boxwood wall from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN that bore the couple’s monogram in bold white letters. Inside the dining area, FLOWERZ created ethereal floral installations. Tables were covered in white linens from UPRIGHT DECOR SIGNATURE EVENTS INC. and surrounded by clear Grace chairs from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN for a clean, all-white aesthetic. The floor plan was uniquely created with different sized tables from A&B PARTYTIME RENTALS LTD., each with their own centrepiece design. The bride’s favourite design detail of the day was the life-size cherry blossom trees that were custom created by FLOWERZ for the event and placed throughout the venue.

“Although we had been dating for close to nine years, planning our wedding symbolized the real beginning of the union between both of our families. Weddings are a lot of work, but the teamwork between both mothers and Aly made it very enjoyable.” - L A U R E N

RAILTOWN CATERING, founded by the groom’s uncle, created a custom three-course menu for the reception, which even included family-style French fries (the bride’s favourite). Later into the evening, guests indulged in a mixture of TIM HORTONS donuts, DOMINO’S pizza, and DAIRY QUEEN blizzards. The bride’s mother is an exceptional baker and so she offered to prepare the wedding cake herself. The final touch to the two-tier confection came in the form of fresh hydrangea from FLOWERZ. Another floral showstopper from FLOWERZ hung above the dance floor. Similar to the installation suspended above the head table, this arrangement was dripping in white wisteria, greenery, and crystals. It was here that Lauren and Eliot had their first dance, as SIDE ONE performed in the background. Arcade games, including a double throw basketball game and a “duck hunt” game, were set up in the dancing area, ensuring guests had fun until the wee hours of the morning. Cinematography was provided by KYLA HABAZIN. The newlyweds currently reside in Vancouver, where Lauren is a senior recruiter in human resources and Eliot is a business development manager.

Family Affair

LOVE BY PHOEBE designed the

couple’s invitations, which were held inside custom white boxes tied with silver ribbon. Each invite included a photo of the couple and a poem written in Farsi, as well as a silver swirl motif, a pattern used

The pair were married on July 28, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia and commissioned Jenny De Jong and Soha Lavin of COUNTDOWN EVENTS PLANNING & DESIGN to provide full event planning services. The day’s events were held at the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER. First up was the ceremony featuring a traditional Persian sofreh designed by COUNTDOWN EVENTS PLANNING & DESIGN and constructed by MOHANI EVENT DESIGN. TALA FLORIST provided all floral for the wedding, which included cascading white orchids on pillars along the aisle, as well as a row of orchid arrangements behind the sofreh on a custom-made plexi arch that spanned 25 feet in length. The arch was designed to perfectly complement the architectural design of the venue. Florals and candles on the sofreh were arranged in the shape of a swirl to mimic the invitation design. Family was an important part of the celebration, and so all items on the sofreh, with the exception of the flowers and candles, were provided by the groom’s sister. In addition, the groom’s adorable nephews were carried down the aisle, holding a sign from LOVE BY PHOEBE that read, “Uncle Pedi Here Comes Your Bride.” According to Pedram, “Having my gorgeous bride beside me for the ceremony was the most memorable part, and having my two nephews be part of the wedding was a very touching moment for me as well.”

Silver Surprises

The reception was also held at the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER. The ballroom was filled with a showstopping floral design by TALA FLORIST, ranging from balls of orchids and calla lilies on tall silver stands to organic floral chandeliers suspended from the ceiling. Floating candles from TALA FLORIST and MOHANI EVENT DESIGN lined the front of a white stage where the head table was located. A large silver shelf-like structure held hundreds of candles and flowers and created a focal point for the room. Family tables were surrounded by white Vogue chairs from MOHANI EVENT DESIGN and ÉCLAT DECOR INC. that had black and white images of the couple, produced and installed by INSTYLE FLOOR WRAPS, on the backs of each. This was one of many elements that the groom surprised the bride with. “We had numerous designs which I kept a surprise for her. The best part of wedding planning was her reaction when she walked into the ballroom, seeing the result of all my efforts,” recalls Pedram.

igh school sweethearts Sarah Ren and Alex Zhang met in Grade 10, while attending the same secondary school in Vancouver. Sarah sat behind Alex in class and the first time they spoke was to discuss social studies homework. Many years later, Alex proposed while Sarah and her family were visiting his hometown of Suzhou, China. The celebration took place on May 21, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Brynn Belisle of DREAMGROUP WEDDINGS + EVENTS provided full-service planning from day one. In lieu of printed invitations, the pair opted for a non-traditional method of inviting guests via WeChat and Facebook. Sarah and Alex said “I do” in a simple ceremony at ST. ANDREW’S-WESLEY UNITED CHURCH. The theme of the wedding was “Chinese Valentine,” which was perfectly reflected in the day’s floral and decor. Three bold, red floral arrangements from FLOWERZ on gold stands supplied by KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN flanked the altar, while two sculpted arrangements were placed at the aisle entrance. A string quintet from MUSICAL OCCASIONS performed. A horse-drawn carriage from STANLEY PARK HORSE-DRAWN TOURS transported the bride and groom to the rose garden in Stanley Park for their photo session.

Roses Are Red The dramatic reception, brought to life through over-the-top crimson florals and twinkling gold decor, was held at the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER. As guests stepped off the elevator, they were greeted by burgundy velvet draping and a lush rose wall with the coupleâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s monogram in gold from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. (The floral wall provided the ultimate backdrop for photos later in the evening.) Meanwhile, the Pacific Ballroom was filled with extravagant floral arrangements from FLOWERZ in keeping with the Chinese Valentineinspired theme. Roses strung through chandeliers, a lavish floral stage, an intimate head table for the bride and groom, and a decadent dessert table, all set the stage for an evening full of entertainment and celebration. Red floral wallpaper was installed behind the dessert table for a major statement. The same rose motif was also used on the dance floor, table numbers, menus, and escort cards, all of which were designed and produced by KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. Red uplighting, also from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN, was used around the ballroom to convey the love that the bride and groom felt for each other. The head table was draped in burgundy velvet linen and embellished with gold charger plates and satin napkins held by gold tassel rings. The couple sat in gold King chairs, while guests sat in gold Chiavari chairs. Family chairs also had burgundy chiffon fabric draping through the back.

Dessert lovers were in heaven thanks to the decadent sweets table featuring a white and gold six-tier wedding cake and an abundance of other ornate confections, ranging from macarons and cupcakes to cookies and cake pops. All desserts were prepared by MOMO CHEN CAKES and were adorned with red and gold accents to match the floral and decor in the ballroom. The cake sat atop a gold tablecloth from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN and was surrounded by fresh red blooms from FLOWERZ at the base. The burgundy floral dance floor from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN was situated in front of the custom stage that was covered in red fabric and featured a faux flower wall flanked by gold draping. Throughout the evening, a slew of performers took the stage, including six professional ballroom dancers from BOOGALOO ACADEMY and twenty-six Chinese dancers from COLOURS OF DANCE ACADEMY. “The guests were truly wowed by the performances and cheered exuberantly when it was over,” recalls planner Brynn Belisle. The newlyweds currently reside in Vancouver, where Sarah is self-employed and Alex is a property manager.

significance to both the bride and the groom. Marc had spent almost an entire year looking for a diamond that had “67” in the carat weight, as 67 was his former racing number. He also wanted it to be a Forevermark diamond due to the play on words with his name and because it signifies that Marc is forever Petra’s. Finally, the diamond was mined on Marc’s mother’s birthday (April 28), so he instantly knew that this was the diamond for his wife-to-be.

etra and Marc De Vellis met over twelve years ago at work. After Marc’s racing career had come to an end, he opened DOLCE 67, a motorsportsthemed café, where Petra was later hired to work as a barista. “Our connection was instant and our friendship grew quickly,” remembers the bride. After a few months, Marc finally built up the courage to ask Petra out on a date to WHITE SPOT (a De Vellis family favourite), however, much to his disappointment, she declined. Refusing to give up, Marc, who was in charge of the shift assignments, began scheduling more shifts with Petra, which according to the bride, “unofficially turned into date nights.” After a few more attempts to take Petra out on a real date, he pulled out the big guns. On Thanksgiving morning in 2006, he messaged Petra and asked her to go for a ride in his Corvette Z06. Petra couldn’t resist and before she knew it, they were on the road to Stanley Park, where they enjoyed hot chocolate and french fries on their first official date. Eleven years later, the couple was visiting Petra’s family in Croatia, and as had become customary when visiting Dubrovnik, they headed to the beach after dark, dipped their toes in the sea, and began talking over a bottle of champagne. To Petra, nothing was out of the ordinary—little did she know that Marc was planning to pop the question. As they were sitting on the beach, they could hear music playing from a wedding happening nearby (“seems very fitting when we look back now,” notes Petra). When Lionel Richie’s “All Night Long (All Night)” began playing in the background, Marc knew it was go time. He stood up and pulled two coins from his pocket, both from 1990 (Petra’s birth year). He then asked Petra to close her eyes and make a wish, and as she closed them, he dropped to one knee, surprising his fiancée-to-be with the sweetest beach proposal. The couple was wed on July 21, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jenny De Jong of COUNTDOWN EVENTS PLANNING & DESIGN provided full event planning and design services. “We knew from the moment we met Jenny that we were in good hands. Their attention to detail, overall experience, and guidance in choosing vendors helped bring our wedding vision to life,” shares Petra. Petra and Marc tied the knot in a traditional Catholic ceremony at ST. FRANCIS OF ASSISI PARISH, which was also where Marc was baptized and where his grandparents, parents, and aunts were all married. Music played a major role, with Marc and his parents walking down the aisle to The Godfather theme song and Petra and her father walking down the aisle to “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.

Taking inspiration from their European roots (Marc’s family is from Italy and Petra’s family is from Croatia), the couple, along with COUNTDOWN EVENTS PLANNING & DESIGN,

planned an outdoor, al fresco reception dinner. Held at a private residence in Coquitlam, the design was a seamless combination of modern and rustic Tuscan elements. A colour palette of white and gold was utilized on the dinner tables, which were embellished with low floral groupings in crystal vases from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. and white glass vases from THE FLOWER FACTORY, who provided all floral for the day. “We wanted a very high-end look but in an al fresco setting and wanted it to tie into the beauty of nature,” shares planner Jenny De Jong. To strike the perfect balance, they used stark white florals and decor, complemented by soft, loose greenery. Gold-rimmed chairs from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. and gold tableware from WINSTONS TABLE CURATION provided a touch of glamour. Place settings also consisted of a white and gold menu designed by the bride through MINTED and a gold-painted olive branch picked by Petra’s father from a family tree in Croatia. 62

As a special treat for the groom, a scotch and cigar bar was set up on a mirrored table from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. and covered in crystal decanters with some of Marc’s favourite scotches and an array of hand-selected cigars. Bar signage, including scotch bottle tags, was designed by the bride in collaboration with MAURELLE CALLIGRAPHY & DESIGN. Beside the scotch and cigar bar was a lounge with dark grey furniture from LOUNGEWORKS EVENT RENTALS. “The lounge had a more ‘masculine’ feel, which was a great contrast

to the rest of the wedding,” says Jenny De Jong.

“Since we both have European roots, Marc’s family being from Italy and mine from Croatia, we wanted an outdoor, al fresco dining event.” -PETRA

The St. Honoré-inspired wedding “cake” was made up of Italian cream puffs and prepared by FORTUNA BAKERY.

As self-proclaimed foodies, food was very important to the couple and so they hired HAWKSWORTH CATERING to provide their catering services. This included a customized six-course meal prepared by Chef David Hawksworth, who cooked for guests and announced each course during dinner, creating a “chef’s table” feeling. Dinner included individuallyplated antipasti, watermelon feta salad, gnocchi in a traditional red sauce, herb-roasted black cod, roasted bone-in veal, and buttermilk panna cotta. Italian soda was also served tableside as a palate cleanser between the third and fourth courses. To cap off the evening, a late-night pizza bar (that even included a pizza oven) from HAWKSWORTH CATERING was open to guests. The couple also worked with their sommelier to suggest wine pairings with each course, in order to make it a true tasting-style dinner. The non-traditional wedding cake was made of Italian cream puffs and prepared by FORTUNA BAKERY. “This isn’t a typical wedding cake, but it is one of Petra’s favourites! For every birthday or special event, this cake is a staple,” shares Marc. As part of the evening fun, a black and white photo booth was provided by BUTTER WEDDINGS PHOTO & CINEMA. Photos taken in the booth were printed, framed, and given to guests as a memento of the day. Petra and Marc’s epic two-part honeymoon took them to Hawaii in September for some rest and relaxation, and then to Italy in October, where they enjoyed two weeks in Tuscany, Rome, and the Amalfi Coast. The result was a showstopping setup in line with the day’s “soft and classic” theme. The reception was held in the Pacific Ballroom at the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER, where a regal, floralfilled design had guests swooning. High and low arrangements of white roses and orchids accented with just a hint of greenery were designed by TALA FLORIST and could be found on every guest table. According to planner Soha Lavin, “The floral design was fashion-forward and had a designer feel.” To create this magnificent wedding white reception, modern decor in the form of artistic white urns, clear charger plates, and clear-back Louis chairs was mixed with classical pieces, like crystal candelabras and goldrimmed Dior chairs, all from ÉCLAT DECOR INC.

The escort card table was a life-size cherry blossom tree from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. As a unique and interactive element, some of the escort cards, which were designed by FLOURISH BY COLLEEN WINTON, were hanging from the

The one-of-a-kind floor plan included the statement sweetheart table, which boasted a canopy dripping in flowers from TALA FLORIST and chandeliers from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. Soft white fabric from ÉCLAT DECOR INC. was draped along all corners of the four-post canopy, while two cherry blossom trees flanked the dreamy structure. “All of the guests loved the canopy and took photos in front of it,” remembers Soha Lavin. In addition to chandeliers, the mood was set by hundreds of flickering candles. Catering was provided by the FAIRMONT HOTEL VANCOUVER and included a custom dinner buffet featuring West Coast cuisine, Persian cuisine, and Mediterranean fusion dishes. LIFE STUDIOS INC. provided their cinematography services. The newlyweds currently reside in Vancouver, British Columbia, where Mozhde is a dentistry student and Behnam is a builder.

One day, they were snorkelling near a small island when all of a sudden, Frank got down on one knee amongst the coral and pulled out a ring. “It was exactly the kind of proposal I always wanted,” recalls Laura. t was through mutual friends in October 2007 that Kimia Tajbakhsh and Kaveh Goldan first met. They dated for a few months but eventually broke it off, only to reconnect four years later. In December of 2016, Kaveh proposed while the two were on a romantic trip to Mexico. One night, Kaveh insisted that they go out for dinner to celebrate their six-year anniversary. A taxi picked them up at their resort and drove them to a secluded beachside restaurant where a candlelit table on the sand awaited them. After dinner, the couple was watching the sunset when the waiter appeared with dessert. He removed the cloche to reveal “Will You Marry Me?” written in chocolate with a beautiful ring placed in a strawberry. Kaveh got down on one knee, and the rest is history! Kimia and Kaveh said “I do” on July 28, 2018. They hired Haleh Tafteh of DETAILS BY HALEH LUXURY EVENT AND SOFREH DESIGN to plan and design their wedding. “She did an amazing job of bringing our vision to life,” says Kimia. The couple was wed in a Western-meets-Persian ceremony at the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER. Kimia wore a Galia Lahav gown purchased at BISOU BRIDAL with Badgley Mischka heels and a necklace, bracelet, and earrings that together totalled over 20 carats worth of diamonds from MOZAFARIAN JEWELRY. Before Kimia’s grand entrance, violinist Shirin Rashidi walked down the aisle playing “Just the Way You Are” by Bruno Mars, a song that holds special significance to their relationship. Finally, the bride entered and according to Kimia, “Kaveh and I both started to cry when we saw each other. It was a moment I’ll never forget.” When she reached the end of the aisle, the couple exchanged vows in their Canadian-style ceremony officiated by Paul Gill. Afterward, they sat at their sofreh, designed by DETAILS BY HALEH LUXURY EVENT AND SOFREH DESIGN with florals by TALA FLORIST, and proceeded with the Persian ceremony, performed by Pooyan Khorsandi. One of the most memorable moments of the Persian ceremony was when Kimia’s mother gifted her with a ring that had belonged to her late grandmother.

Dripping in Crystals

The goal for the reception, also held at the JW MARRIOTT PARQ VANCOUVER, was to create a crystal palace. To achieve this look, crystal was used everywhere in the design of the room, from the sweetheart table and charger plates to the candelabras and candleholders. Breathtaking floral by TALA FLORIST completed the dreamy vision. Over 25,000 Phalaenopsis orchids were sourced locally in Vancouver and from the Netherlands, while orchid leis were imported from Thailand. The most breathtaking crystal design of all was the 45-ft long by 20-ft wide ceiling installation by KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN and LE MARAIS DÉCOR. Above the dance floor hung hundreds of white satin ribbons with tear-shaped crystals from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN affixed to the ends. This statement centrepiece was the bride’s favourite

design detail of the day. “When I walked into the ballroom, I could not stop my tears of joy. It was such a beautiful feature and really took my breath away,” shares Kimia. For added height, a pair of 15-ft snow white cherry blossom trees were imported from New York and placed on either side of the bar. A hint of gold in the form of Washington chairs and mirrored tables added warmth to the ballroom. The other main element was the lighting. The ballroom was lit with thousands of candles and more than 50 soft sapphire uplights which enhanced the ambiance of the space. In addition, velvet draping from LE MARAIS DÉCOR lined the walls of the ballroom, creating a regal and romantic backdrop.

lthough Rena Liu and Paul Pan’s story first began as high school friends over twelve years ago, there was always something genuine and undeniable about the way they laughed when they were together. Their instant connection explained how they quickly became close friends that would often leave for school early and go home late just so they could spend more time together. Sadly, their friendship was put on pause when Paul left to attend Simon Fraser University. While living on campus, Paul received a random text message from Rena, who was deciding whether she should keep his phone number in her contact list. It was this text which prompted a romantic relationship that began almost as quickly as they had become friends when they first met. After being inseparable for over nine years, they were finally married on May 6, 2018. Before their marriage came Paul’s epic proposal, which all hinged on the perfect engagement ring. For Paul, finding the right diamond meant that it had to have class, heritage, and unique characteristics that would make it deeply personal to Rena. The six-month search ended when CARTIER notified him that a diamond meeting his exact specifications had been found in their international inventory. The ring arrived in the nick of time, one day prior to Paul’s planned proposal. “Seeing it sparkle for the first time completely justified the stressful experience of having the diamond arrive only two hours before CARTIER’s closing time, on the exact afternoon before the proposal,” shares Paul. The next morning, the sun emerged after a week of relentless December rain, which meant that the helicopter he had booked was authorized for takeoff. Rena’s suspicions of Paul’s plan were soon confirmed as their flight reached its destination and landed on top of the inaccessible white tip of Widgeon Peak. While sinking into the snow, and with the stunning mountains as a backdrop, Paul got down on one knee and asked Rena to marry him with her parents as their witnesses. Rena yelled, “I knew it!” and accepted. Upon arriving back at the hangar, Rena was greeted by Paul’s parents who were carrying an antique suitcase containing 365 red roses that Paul had prepared. The engagement was not complete without a celebratory trip to the warm beaches of Punta Cana so that they could defrost from their minus 15-degree mountaintop experience. The wedding took place at the ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA in Vancouver, British Columbia. Alicia Keats of ALICIA KEATS WEDDINGS + EVENTS provided full-service planning and design assistance.

Rena and Paul tied the knot in a civil ceremony at the ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA. “Romantic, elegant, opulent, and grand” imbued every aspect of the celebration. GRANVILLE ISLAND FLORIST and UPRIGHT DECOR SIGNATURE EVENTS INC. created a custom canopy of white draping covered in blush and cream blooms. “It was of the utmost importance for our bride to be surrounded by fresh flowers on her wedding day and this pedestal of flowers exceeded her expectations,” shares planner Alicia Keats. Oversized floral arrangements stood on clear pillars of varying heights, creating a waterfall effect at the aisle entrance, while a swoon-worthy circular installation was suspended in the centre of the room. Special moments from the ceremony included when the couple’s teacup poodles, dressed in a tuxedo and gown, were walked down the aisle. Rena and Paul signed their marriage certificate with matching Montblanc fountain pens.

Love is in the Air

ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA ’s Spanish Ballroom was completely transformed from a romantic, lush ceremony space to an opulent reception. “Seeing our reception for the very first time was our favourite part. It was our opportunity to see the vision come to life, and the pictures really do not do the room justice when it comes to capturing the atmosphere created by all of the fresh flowers,” shares Rena. The ballroom contained over 10,000 fresh blooms, eliciting gasps from guests as they entered. Sculpted arrangements of hydrangea, roses, and orchids were placed in silver vases on guest tables, and balanced out by floating candleholders with rose petals.

In the centre of the ballroom hung the floral chandelier from the ceremony, which emanated a warm, romantic glow throughout. One of the most unique aspects of Rena and Paul’s wedding was the signature scents they customized through JO MALONE. “It was important to us that our guests’ senses were stimulated on all levels. We went through many different companies and eventually decided on a few unique combinations from JO MALONE,” shares the bride. A different scent infused each space, from English pear and freesia to peony and blush suede. Even the restrooms had a signature fragrance (grapefruit for the men and basil and neroli for the women).

After the ceremony, guests were invited into the promenade for the cocktail reception. On the steps leading into the cocktail hour were hundreds of rose petals and candles. In the centre of the room was a white bar with a floral arrangement from GRANVILLE ISLAND FLORIST. The lounge furniture was provided by UPRIGHT DECOR SIGNATURE EVENTS INC. and the 20-ft by 8-ft seating chart with gold foil escort cards was designed by LOVE BY PHOEBE. “The seating card display was a showstopper, and guests took photos in front of it all night long,” remembers Alicia Keats.

ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA provided all other food and beverages for the evening, including a five-course dinner and a late-night snack cart serving poutine and Japanese hot dogs. Mini potted orchids from ORIENTAL ORCHIDS LTD. served as wedding favors. According to the bride, “Our extensive floral arrangements featured orchids as one of the main flowers. We wanted our guests to be reminded of the emphasis on flowers in our wedding design, so we chose potted orchids for them to take home.” Favor tags were designed by the bride. Overall, Rena and Paul wished for a celebration that appealed to each of the five senses: opulent floral and decor for sight, custom JO MALONE scents for smell, a live trio from MUSICAL OCCASIONS for sound, a decadent cake, fivecourse dinner, and late-night snacks for taste, and finally, portraits from THE COLLECTIVE YOU for touch. “We wanted to figuratively touch our guests and show them our gratitude for their support over the years by having their photographs taken and displayed. All of these senses were prioritized in order to accomplish the task of giving our guests the most memorable experience we could,” shares Rena. After the wedding, the couple embarked on a European honeymoon that took them to Greece, France, and Turkey. They currently reside in Vancouver, where Rena is an elementary school teacher and Paul is a film producer and the owner of NAUTICAN INTERNATIONAL ENTERPRISES.

uvimbo Mukorombindo and Jordan Johnson first laid eyes on each other at a club in Vancouver. Jordan walked right up to her and asked her to dance, and Ruvimbo accepted. She gave him her number after their dance, and the next day Jordan texted her to ask her out that very evening. Their first “official” date came one week later when Jordan took Ruvimbo to THE BOATHOUSE RESTAURANT. Dinner went so well, they decided to take a romantic stroll along English Bay, where they discussed their interests and values. “Our energy was magnetic; two total opposites from different backgrounds, nationalities, races, and traditions… a meshing of two worlds and cultures. We were polar opposites but somehow we fit perfectly,” shares the bride. Like their relationship, the proposal reflected the joining of two worlds and cultures. As a Zimbabwean woman from the Shona culture, it was important for Ruvimbo that the traditional engagement ceremony take place, which is when the groom pays his respects by presenting the bride’s family with roora (or “bride price” in English). A woman cannot have a white wedding in the Western sense before this roora ceremony has occurred, and it is up to the groom’s family to approach the bride’s family. As a result of the complexity of this cultural tradition, the couple flew to Harare, Zimbabwe in December 2016. “We celebrated our engagement with my family in Zimbabwe, and it was a beautiful day where Jordan was able to meet my entire extended family and experience my culture and people in its purest form,” says Ruvimbo. Two months after returning to Vancouver, Jordan surprised his bride-to-be with an actual engagement ring while scouting venues for their wedding (and lo and behold, the location in which he presented her with the ring was THE PERMANENT, which would eventually become their wedding venue). Jordan and Ruvimbo were married on July 28, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Sahar Sarband of MODERN MINT EVENTS INC. provided full-service event planning and design assistance.

The bride had two bouquets on her wedding day. The first was an ivory and silver brooch bouquet sourced from BROCHE BOUQUETS. The second was provided by FLOWERZ and featured white orchids trailing down the front.

Ruvimbo and Jordan exchanged vows beneath a floating floral arch at THE PERMANENT. The dramatic arch created by FLOWERZ consisted of fresh roses, hydrangea, orchids, and tropical leaves painted black. Behind the altar, dozens of tall black vases held white palm fronds, creating a tropical garden behind the bride and groom. A black aisle runner from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN and gold-rimmed black velvet Chrome chairs from MOHANI EVENT DESIGN finished off the chic decor.

In keeping with the “upscale, black tie with a tropical twist” theme, tropical white palm leaves were again contrasted with the black and gold colour scheme. Gallery tables were draped in black velvet linens from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN and topped with a combination of white palm fronds in cylindrical black vases and white roses in glass bud vases, giving the room both height and drama. Gold charger plates and black satin napkins from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN completed the look.

Allen popped the question on May 20, 2015, which the bride explains is Chinese Valentine’s Day in China, due to the fact that “I love you” and May 20 are pronounced similarly in Chinese. As Allen grew up in Canada, he was not familiar with this holiday until he met Helena. She had mentioned this date to him for three years but he never bothered to celebrate with her, which is why it came as a surprise when on May 19, 2015, Allen said he had planned something special for them the next day. On May 20, Allen took Helena up Whistler Mountain and they went ATVing. Back in Vancouver later that day, they had dinner at HAWKSWORTH RESTAURANT and watched the sunset from Grouse Mountain, before he finally proposed in Queen Elizabeth Park. The wedding, planned by Kitty Tsai of WEDO WEDDINGS ETC., took place on June 3, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Helena and Allen said “I do” inside the Spanish Ballroom at the ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA. The most memorable moment for Helena was Allen’s personalized vows, which came as a complete shock to the bride. The last lines of the romantic and heartfelt vows read, “What may come, I will always be there, believing that love never dies. As I have given you my hand to hold, so I give you my life to keep.” In line with the regal, princess theme that the bride requested, the ceremony used a blush and cream colour scheme with gold accents. Oversized floral arrangements stood on marble pillars from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN and lined the aisle, which led to a canopy of white draping from WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. Blush floor-to-ceiling draping from WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. spanned the wall behind the canopy, creating a luxurious, royal feel throughout the space. Guests sat in gold Grace chairs from KONCEPT EVENT DESIGN. The white aisle runner was provided by WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. and a trio from TIMELESS MUSIC performed throughout the ceremony. At the entrance to the ceremony was the “princess room,” designed and brought to life by WEDO WEDDINGS ETC. and FLOWERZ. Due to Helena’s wishes for a “royal fairytale wedding,” they worked together to create a special space outside the ballroom for her to take photos with guests. It featured a canopy of white draping with blush and cream florals, a sofa from LOUNGEWORKS FURNITURE RENTALS, a mixture of chandeliers and candelabras, and photos of the couple. According to planner Kitty Tsai, “it symbolized her resting and waiting room.”

For the tea ceremony, Helena wore a custom ensemble from China embroidered with phoenix and peonies, and 24-karat gold jewellery from CHOW TAI FOOK, gifted to the bride by her

mother-in-law. Her headpiece was provided by KIKI XIANG HAIR & MAKEUP.

The Spanish Ballroom at the ROSEWOOD HOTEL GEORGIA was flipped for the reception. Round tables were used throughout the space, as according to Helena, this shape symbolizes the circle of love in Chinese culture. A larger round table was used for the head table, which was decorated with an abundance of soft florals from FLOWERZ for a major statement. Inspired by a royal garden, a mixture of short, medium, and tall arrangements interspersed with ornate gold candleholders decorated the surface. Meanwhile, guest tables were embellished with pastel florals on tall gold stands and lilac satin linens with a royal lace overlay from WEDO WEDDINGS ETC.

azanin Babaeipanah and Nima Hooshmand first met at a mutual friend’s graduation party in June 2012. “It was an immediate attraction that sparked between the two of us. We were inseparable all evening, and Nima attempted to charm his way into my heart with every chance he could get,” recalls Nazanin. At the end of the night, Nima approached Nazanin’s mother, who had also attended the party, and jokingly asked for her daughter’s hand in marriage, “a sweet gesture that was of course quickly rejected,” remembers the bride. Little did they all know that six years later, Nazanin and Nima would be tying the knot surrounded by their dearest family and friends. Nima’s surprise proposal took place in Iran, their home country. Nima was staying with Nazanin’s family, and on their last night in Iran, her parents threw the couple a farewell party. Despite the festivities, Nazanin could sense that Nima was nervous but could not figure out why. Later in the evening, he asked her to dance, but this was no ordinary dance! As they began dancing, party guests formed a circle around them, when suddenly Nima got down on one knee, reached into his pocket, and pulled out a red box. “At that very moment, I couldn’t hear anyone or see anything else but him. As he uttered those words, ‘will you marry me,’ tears ran down my cheeks; I was crying and shaking and laughing all at once. I nodded yes, and well, I guess he took Beyoncé’s advice and finally put a ring on it,” jokes Nazanin. The wedding took place on June 29, 2018 in Pitt Meadows, British Columbia. Hasti Maloufi of LA VISTA EVENTS provided full event planning services, as well as design assistance. Nazanin and Nima exchanged personalized vows in an outdoor ceremony at SWANESET BAY RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB. As the owner of ALMAS SOFREH DESIGN, the bride designed the sofreh herself, combining the traditional aspects of an Iranian wedding spread with the all-white, minimalistic theme of the day. A customized stage built by MOHANI EVENT DESIGN showcased the white floral arrangements from TALA FLORIST. In addition to the fresh blooms on the sofreh, four 12-ft tall cherry blossom trees were custom-made and flown in for the wedding by MOHANI EVENT DESIGN.

The bride’s sparkly trumpet gown was custom-designed in Turkey by MIRACLE WORLD. She paired her

princess look with silver Manolo Blahnik heels, a necklace, earrings, and bracelet from SOUFI JEWELERS, and a custom veil and tiara made in Turkey, the latter of which was personally sketched and designed by the bride.

A Rolls-Royce Phantom was provided by LUXURY LIFE LIMOUSINE.

For the reception, the SWANESET BAY RESORT & COUNTRY CLUB’s Grand Ballroom was transformed into an all-white floral wonderland, filled with custom furniture and glistening silver accents. “The floral was designed to ensure that when guests walked in, there would be no shortage of flowers to talk about,” shares planner Hasti Maloufi. Centrepiece designs ranged from low bouquets of white flowers punctuated by orchid-wrapped crystal candelabras to oversized arrangements of roses and orchids on plexi pillars. According to the bride, “Nima and I had envisioned a clean and sleek look with a fountain of orchids and several all-white cherry blossom trees to complement the white theme.” In addition to hundreds of orchids, cherry blossom trees from MOHANI EVENT DESIGN were placed throughout the room. All of the decor inside the ballroom was custom-designed by MOHANI EVENT DESIGN to ensure everything matched the bride’s vision of an elegant, glamorous, and modern wedding. From the custom tables to the ice white silk linens and silver charger plates, all elements fit within the white and silver colour scheme of the day.

Instead of a traditional sweetheart table, the couple opted for a minimalistic and elegant look. Nazanin and Nima sat on silver Chrome chairs from MOHANI EVENT DESIGN, behind tiered plexi

pillars with lush, trailing orchids from TALA FLORIST. Four white cherry blossom trees, along with a row of floating candles, surrounded the couple, completing the dreamy setup.

JOCONDE PATISSERIE prepared a stunning seven-tier cake covered in cascading sugar flowers and silver details to match the white and silver colour scheme of the day. They also created mini versions of the wedding cake for guests to take home. Per tradition, Persian pastries were served and provided by TISHIN BAKERY. The newlyweds are currently enjoying married life in Coquitlam, where Nazanin is a career advisor at Simon Fraser University and the owner of ALMAS SOFREH DESIGN, and Nima is a project manager.
