A
s I write this, it's only been a few short days since the "wedding of the year" (aka #whenHarrymetMeghan) mesmerized more than two billion people worldwide. An entirely new generation of little girls and boys have been left with indelible impressions of a fairytale royal wedding. I suspect it won't be long before a few more brides choose streamlined wedding gowns, bateau necklines, and we see a potential resurgence in the tiara accessory. Maybe I shouldn't admit it, but I'm old enough to remember with precision accuracy the wedding of Prince Harry's parents, Charles and Diana. I was seven years old, and my Mom woke me up in the wee hours of the morning to witness a 20-year-old bride emerge like a butterfly out of a glass carriage, wearing the biggest wedding dress I'd ever seen. I think at that very moment, I was hooked on the beauty and tradition of weddings and WedLuxe was probably subconsciously planted as a seed somewhere in the back of my childhood mind. While so many traditions of marriage (and royal weddings) remain the same, in the span of a few short decades, so much has changed. Thanks to Meghan Markle, our view of a modern-day princess (ok, Duchess!) is now that of a self-made, confident, successful, charitable, biracial feminist. What a win for Prince Harry and for the minds of seven (and seventy) year olds around the world! The future is here, but tradition is still the very basis for weddings, and marriage is as old as civilization itself. Looking back a few hundred years and with the theme of our "White Haute" issue in mind, we can thank Queen Victoria for totally bucking tradition and choosing a white wedding gown, a rare choice at the time, and one that immediately changed the course of wedding fashion (and decor) history. To celebrate the wondrous world of white, this issue is FILLED with all sorts of pretty interpretations. Kudos to our incredible WedLuxe Glitterati members who got together and created our seven stunning styled shoots starting on page 102 with white as their jumping off point. Even now, after twelve years of publishing WedLuxe, whether it is linen white contrasted with bold colour—reflective, iridescent, eggshell, or blue-hued—I am still in love with wedding white and all that it represents. But more importantly, I still believe in the undeniable power of love and that marriage will forever stand the test of time.

I'm writing this in May but by mid-June 2018, my friends at engagesummits.com (and I!) will have welcomed hundreds of the world's top luxury wedding professionals to Engage! 18 at the fairmont banff springs nestled in the Rocky Mountains of Canada. As a Canadian, I am incredibly honoured and excited to have been named the guest creative director for this world-renowned professional conference. I created the official event logo and brand guidelines, and referenced every Canuckism I could think of while I dreamt up the direction/inspiration boards for the many events that will take place over the three days of the conference. A Multicultural Whistler Wedding
J
Roxanne Cave of Celebrate Events worked closely with flourish by colleen winton to create the elegant invitations that took inspiration from the bride’s dress.
anelle and Perry Gill met through mutual friends in 2010. Six years later, the couple were vacationing in tropical St. Lucia. Their holiday happened to coincide with Valentine’s Day, and it was on February 14 that Perry planned a romantic dinner on the beach and asked Janelle to be his wife. Their multicultural three-day wedding took place from July 6 to July 8, 2017 in Whistler and Pemberton, British Columbia. Nicola Wiltens and Roxanne Cave of celebrate events helped plan the event from day one. Roxanne, the owner and lead designer of Celebrate Events, was responsible for the design, direction, and management of all three events, while Nicola was the lead planner responsible for all event planning components. “We were thrilled with the result,” shares Janelle. The sangeet party (an Indian wedding tradition that involves singing, dancing, and music) took place on July 6, 2017 at Whistler’s audain art museum. Guests arrived through the front entrance of the museum and made their way down the stairs to the meadow. A stretch tent from event rental works was set up on the grass, at the back of which was a giant picture frame from Celebrate Events with creamsicle-inspired florals in shades of orange, yellow, pink, and red. A seating area comprising cushions and ottomans surrounded the dance floor, while a white sofa took centre stage in front of the floral frame. A combination of round and café tables were scattered outside the tent. Tangerine linens from faire la fête linen rentals, clear Ghost chairs from coral design and events, glass candleholders, and small vibrant bouquets from celsia florist made up the rest of the sangeet party decor. Guests enjoyed an Indian buffet prepared by toque catering.
Janelle wore a red sari by Tarun Tahiliana and Perry wore a kurta by Shantanu & Nikhil, both purchased in India.
Perry worked with a jewellery designer to fully customize Janelle’s 4-carat engagement ring that had her birthstone in the centre. The bride’s wedding band was also custom-made, while the groom’s wedding band was from cartier.

Upon arrival, guests were given a welcome box containing a hangover kit, programs, champagne, mints, and Chocohappy chocolates. Welcome boxes were assembled by Celebrate Events.

CEREMONY
On July 8, 2017 Janelle and Perry were wed in a traditional Sikh ceremony held at riverlands equestrian facility, a fully-operational horse boarding and training site in Pemberton. The venue’s natural surroundings provided a positively idyllic spot to tie the knot. The bride’s goal throughout the planning process was to create an outdoor ceremony that still respected Sikh traditions—and this is exactly what she got. With nothing but blue sky and the snow-capped mountains around them, a cloud-like canopy was erected in the middle of an open field by coral design and events. In keeping with traditional Sikh requirements, the tent acted as a gurdwara (Sikh place of worship). In the centre of the tented structure was a “floral cloud” from celsia florist, designed to provide shade for the bride and groom during the elaborate ceremony. “The floral ‘cloud’ Roxanne and the florist designed was absolutely amazing,” recalls Janelle.

“The special thing about Indian weddings is that they take place over the course of three or four days. It is an opportunity for our close friends and families to catch up. To us, it was important that our guests were able to enjoy themselves and that it was a seamless and fun celebration!”–janelle

All day-of stationery was co-designed by flourish by colleen winton and celebrate events. celsia florist created Janelle’s spectacular asymmetrical bouquet filled with roses and orchids.
Black dishware, gold flatware, pink water goblets, gold-rimmed charger plates, and bar back were provided by Celebrate Events.
The couple, along with their 270 wedding guests, made their way from Pemberton to the fairmont chateau whistler for the reception. Held on the rooftop terrace of the hotel, a palette of cream and blush with hints of black and gold came to life.
A crystal chandelier surrounded by a ring of florals and greenery hung in the centre of the room and was undoubtedly the focal point. Meanwhile, round and gallery tables were dressed in blush paisley linens from faire la fête linen rentals and surrounded by gold Chiavari chairs from pedersen’s rentals. Centrepieces by Celsia Florist consisted of blush and white blooms mixed in with moss and fresh greens in gold pedestal bowls.

The white, five-tier cake from a. elizabeth cakes was “the final element tying the event together,” shares the bride. It featured edible designs mimicking the groom’s quilted tuxedo jacket, the bride’s gown, the paisley imprint on the tablecloths, and the florals used throughout the reception.

Once guests were seated, they were treated to a same day edit video created by life studios inc., the ending of which coincided with the couple’s grand entrance.

fairmont chateau whistler prepared canapés and dinner for the rooftop reception. The four-course dinner, served family-style, consisted of dishes from around the world. In fact, each course was inspired by a specific region. The Mediterranean starter consisted of wild halibut with fennel, radish, olives, pink grapefruit, and arugula. The second course, a nod to Asia, was a noodle salad with purple cabbage, shitaake mushrooms, edamame, and citrus ginger dressing. The “Germany Entrée” chicken course comprised Brathendl rotisserie chicken with fresh thyme, citrusroasted heirloom carrots, and a potato rosti. Finally, the North American salad platters included carved petite tenderloin with grilled peppers and horseradish dressing and summer vegetables with harvest grains. goby catt trio performed during the reception. A DJ who is a close friend of the groom’s provided his services later in the evening. Lighting provided by promosa. Bars and rigging provided by event rental works. Cinematography by Life Studios Inc. The newlyweds currently reside in Edmonton, Alberta.

Stepping into a Dream

Soft white draping from kawano decor & design provided the dreamiest backdrop for the one-of-a-kind sofreh aghd designed by Details by Haleh. The sofreh was set up on a custom-made round stage covered with glossy white vinyl from mohani event design. The back of the symbolic marriage mirror was completely covered in blush roses for a major statement. The sofreh also featured hundreds of white candles in crystal candleholders, a traditional food spread, and a combination of high and low floral arrangements.
ana Erfani met Jay Chaudhary after being referred to him for investment advice. Days after their business meeting, they both found themselves looking for an excuse to call the other. They played phone tag for a few days, but eventually got in touch and shared their true feelings. Their romance culminated in a gondola trip up Grouse Mountain. Once at the top, they shared a romantic dinner overlooking Vancouver and made the decision to spend the rest of their lives together. The wedding took place on January 27, 2018 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Haleh Tafteh of details by haleh provided full event planning and design assistance for the couple’s epic Persian-meets-Western wedding. The ceremony and reception took place at the fairmont hotel vancouver. The couple’s wedding stationery suite was designed by making memories with stationery. Mana and Jay were wed in a ceremony that combined Persian and Western traditions. The officiant began the ceremony in English, but when it came to the tradition of asking the groom’s permission to conduct the legal marriage on his behalf, they switched to Farsi. According to Mana, “The most emotional moment was when Jay said bale, which means ‘yes’ in Farsi.” The vision for the ceremony was to create a romantic, lavish garden in shades of white and blush. This concept was brought to life by Details by Haleh, tala florist, and Mohani Event Design. “We wanted an elegant look that still felt sophisticated and modern,” shares planner Haleh Tafteh. Guests were surrounded by arrangements of white hydrangea and pink garden roses. A custom-built aisle lined with taper candles in crystal candelabras ran down the centre of the space and was surrounded by white Vogue chairs provided by Mohani Event Design.
Mana wore two Martina Liana gowns on her wedding day. The first, a fitted dress with a halter neckline and tulle train, and the second, a sparkly tulle ball gown with beaded straps and a sweetheart neckline. Both gowns were purchased from bisou bridal. Her Swarovski crystal-covered tiara was from Bisou Bridal and her jewellery was purchased in Iran.

ROSE GOLD ROMANCE When planning their wedding, the two most important elements for the bride were flowers and candles. “I wanted to walk into the room and feel like all I could see were flowers and candles everywhere,� shares the bride. Her dreams became a reality when she entered the reception to find 500 candles lighting up the room and magnificent white flowers from top to bottom. The space was filled with multi-tier centerpieces from tala florist abundantly decorated with white hydrangea, anemones, garden roses, and orchids. Round tables were covered in cream satin linens and mirrored tabletops from mohani event design. Glamorous metallic accents came in the form of white ceramic charger plates with gold trim and a mixture of white Washington chairs with rose gold trim and rose gold Infinity chairs, all from Mohani Event Design.
The cocktail hour and reception were also held at the fairmont hotel vancouver. briere production group provided their audio and lighting services, which included over 40 uplights, 4 moving lights, and 20 spotlights for the reception. psav provided visual support in the form of an 8-ft screen and projector.

Two life-size white cherry blossom trees framed the opulent head table that sat perched on a custom-built stage with rose gold trim, created by Mohani Event Design. The head table was draped in orchids and quicksand roses and covered in crystal candlesticks.

Guests couldn’t take their eyes off the magnificent sweetheart table, provided by mohani event design. Immediately behind the table was the couple’s towering eleven-tier, 7-ft tall wedding cake from a. elizabeth cakes. It was embellished with sugar ruffles, rose gold sugar pearls, and the couple’s hand-piped monogram. The flavour consisted of vanilla cake with hazelnut buttercream, white chocolate coffee ganache, and toasted hazelnuts. The cake table was also supplied by Mohani Event Design.

Tree trunks were wrapped in fresh white blooms before branching off into four arms covered in gilded greenery. At the end of each arm was a crystal chandelier from Mohani Event Design. Other lavish centrepieces included 8-ft tall arrangements of white and blush florals accented with hanging crystal strands.

In the end, Mana and Jay believed their wedding struck the perfect balance between regal opulence and modern romance, “Mixing unique modern details, such as the circular sofreh and dance floor, with the classic glamour of the crystal details and the luxurious span of white flowers and rose gold accents created the look of dreamy romance,” recalls the bride. After the wedding, Mana and Jay flew to Honolulu, Hawaii, where they stayed in the Honeymoon Suite at halekulani. “It was the best trip that we’ve ever been on together. We got to spend our first Valentine’s Day as husband and wife,” shares Mana. The couple currently resides in Vancouver, where Mana is a real estate agent and Jay is a mortgage broker.

I
t must have been fate that brought Guan Wang and Henry Wei together. Though they were both born in Changchun, they never met while in China. In 2005, Guan’s family moved to Hong Kong. It was at this point that her father became golf buddies with Henry’s father, but still the two did not meet. Four years later, Guan’s family relocated again, this time to Vancouver. Flash forward another five years to May 2014, Henry had been living in Vancouver while attending university and his parents were coming to town for his graduation. Knowing his former friend was in town, Guan’s father arranged for the two families to have dinner. Thus, a casual gathering at a Chinese restaurant in downtown Vancouver is how the couple first connected. “We later learned that we were born in the same hospital and had even attended the same elementary school in China,” recalls the bride. One and a half years later, Henry proposed in a suite at the fairmont pacific rim. Guan and Henry tied the knot on August 27, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Soha Lavin of countdown events planning & design provided full-service event planning and design. “They’re the most thoughtful, creative, and detail-oriented planners I’ve ever worked with,” shares the bride.

CEREMONY NOTES
Guan and Henry said “I do” in a civil ceremony at the vandusen botanical garden. Light and airy florals from celsia florist were intended to showcase the natural surroundings of the venue. Rustic branches, white blooms, and lush greenery were arranged in low groupings along the aisle, as well as in tall white urns on pillars that stood on either end of the aisle. These arrangements were complemented by clear Chiavari chairs and a stark white aisle runner from éclat decor inc. A string quartet from musical occasions performed throughout the ceremony.

The sweetheart table had the dreamiest arrangement of them all; a wild and organic greenery-covered floral arch. In front of the table sat additional groupings of loose florals.

Round tables featured a different centrepiece design: life-size trees embellished with crystal strands hanging off branches and a bouquet of fresh white blooms at the base. Tablescapes were rounded off with blue watercolour menus, table numbers, and place cards from flourish by colleen winton, crystal candleholders from Éclat Decor Inc., and soap and hand cream wedding favors from l’occitane.

fairmont pacific rim provided the canapés, four-course plated dinner, and dessert stations. Canapés ranged from hoisin duck spring rolls with cinnamon and plum jam to crispy fried pork belly. Meanwhile, the gourmet dinner featured Dungeness crab with mascarpone, watermelon, quail egg, and edible flowers as the first course, butternut squash soup as the second course, wagyu beef steak and miso-glazed sablefish as the third course, and finally, a mascarpone mousse with a baked agave bird’s nest and strawberries for dessert. A DJ from girl on wax got the party started and according to the bride, her favourite moment of the night was her first dance with Henry. Though they hope to travel to Japan, Guan and Henry have yet to embark on their honeymoon due to the birth of their son, Damian, on January 7 of this year. The newlyweds currently reside in West Vancouver.

Shazneen and Bahman were married in a Zoroastrian ceremony at the fairmont pacific rim. The bicultural wedding ceremony incorporated both Indian and Persian traditions to represent the bride and groom’s respective cultures. The theme of the ceremony was spirituality and the focal point was the elegant, all-white sofreh aghd designed by Details by Haleh. Two large gold leaf arrangements from Tala Florist stood on white pillars at the front of the aisle, which was lined with floating candles. Guests sat in chairs from éclat decor inc.
hazneen Hushmendy and Bahman Sotoodian are both Zoroastrians, and it was because of this shared religious connection that they first met. “Thanks to a mutual Zoroastrian friend, Bahman and I were forced to become Facebook friends,” shares Shazneen. Initially, the two were reluctant to pursue a relationship seeing as Shazneen lived in Albany and Bahman lived in Vancouver, but after months of talking (Facebook messages led to texting, texting to phone calls, and phone calls to Skyping), the two finally decided to meet in person. On July 26, 2013, Bahman, already knowing Shazneen was “the one,” flew to New York City to meet the love of his life. “Our chemistry was perfect. We connected on an emotional, intellectual, and spiritual level,” recalls the bride. The pair spent the next two years getting to know one another, travelling, and supporting each other during the toughest moments of their careers. Finally, on October 4, 2015, Bahman proposed. Bahman was visiting Shazneen in Albany and on his last day, they went to Manhattan. Their impromptu trip involved a comedy show, a walk around the city, and some halal street food. According to the bride, “It was like we were reliving our very first meeting.” Throughout the day, Shazneen kept hinting that it was time Bahman made a commitment—little did she know he was going to propose that night. Back in the hotel room that evening, Bahman finally responded to Shazneen’s questions about commitment from earlier in the day and asked her to describe her dream engagement ring. After she was done describing it, Bahman pulled out a ring that looked exactly like what she had described and he popped the question. “It was a complete surprise. The breathtaking view of Manhattan could be seen from our room, which was perfect and a beautiful reminder of where we first met,” shares Shazneen. The wedding took place on August 26, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Haleh Tafteh of details by haleh provided full-service planning and design assistance leading up to the big day. The entire wedding was planned in just five months due to a last-minute change of location. The bride, who resides in California, was initially planning to have the wedding in San Francisco, but after the United States travel ban went into effect in early 2017, they decided to move their wedding to Vancouver. “We were lucky that the Fairmont Pacific Rim was available on our original day. Moving our wedding to beautiful Vancouver (where Bahman’s family is from) was the best decision we could have made,” says Shazneen.

Shazneen wore two gowns during the wedding day. The first, by Eddy K, was paired with a veil by Zuhair Murad, both from panache bridal. Bahman wore Hugo Boss formalwear from harry rosen.
Per tradition, the couple was seated at the sofreh, facing guests. They sat on a white chaise sofa from Éclat Decor Inc. On either side of the sofreh were two life-size manzanita trees covered in orchids and crystal strands with pink hydrangea at the base. Two oversized candelabras from Tala Florist were placed in front of the draping to represent warmth as the newlyweds begin their journey together.

RED HOT The reception was held in the Star Sapphire Ballroom at the fairmont pacific rim. Bright pink, red, and gold— colours which, according to the bride and groom, represent joy and love—filled the room from top to bottom. According to planner Haleh Tafteh, “The flower palette of fuchsia and gold at the reception was absolutely jaw-dropping.”

Glam gold accents came in the form of candlesticks, charger plates, linens, and Napoleon chairs from éclat decor inc., as well as traditional Persian bags containing dried fruit and sweets from Iran, which served as guest takeaways.

FLOATING ON A CLOUD
The head table was undeniably the focal point. The couple sat on a white chaise sofa from Êclat decor inc. and were surrounded by glowing candles and white orchids. Four life-size manzanita trees in white pillars flanked the sweetheart setup, while two oversized glistening chandeliers from Éclat Decor Inc. hung off a 9-ft tall floral structure behind the newlyweds. Laced white and pink blooms covered the base of the hanging chandelier display to create a reception design that was the embodiment of luxury and extravagance.
DJ Ali Fard provided both his DJ and lighting services, which included 50 LED fixtures that created a fuchsia wash throughout the ballroom.

For dinner, guests indulged in a combination of Persian and Indian family-style entrées prepared by the fairmont pacific rim, that ranged from butter chicken to joojeh kabob. Dessert was the main event and included multiple buffet stations. A flambéed mini donut station was rolled out where guests could choose from various toppings such as whipped cream, sprinkles, cacao nibs, caramel, chocolate sauce, berries, and even pop rocks. There was also a gulab jamun station, a Persian sweets station where Persian and Indian tea was served, and a buffet with crème brûlée, carrot halwa tarts, and fantasia wedding cake. The four-tier wedding cake perfectly matched the colour palette and theme of the reception and featured edible gilding, the couple’s monogram, and cascading purple orchids. It was prepared by le gateau bake shop, with monogram design by Alma Amiran. DJ Ali Fard and Chichaklar Dance Company performed at the reception and premier love provided their cinematography services. The couple had their favourite moment of the day on the dance floor. “The father-daughter dance and mother-son dance was a very special moment. Our parents are the reason we are what we are today and it was very emotional for us,” recalls Shazneen. For their honeymoon, Shazneen and Bahman enjoyed two weeks of fun and relaxation. They stayed at the ritz-carlton, kapalua in beautiful Maui for one week before embarking on a 7-day Alaskan cruise. The couple currently resides in Santa Rosa, California, where they are both physicians.

A Modern Autumn Wedding
A
zadeh Eltejaei and Moko Kourehchian are old family friends. For a long time, they didn’t see one another, but “I was always thinking of her and knew we would meet again,” recalls Moko. In June 2014, while on a trip to Toronto, the two ran into each other. They were both visiting the city as they planned to move to Canada. It was from this moment that their relationship took off. They quickly began dating and shortly thereafter, travelled to Vancouver because Azadeh wanted to experience life on the West Coast. Over their 18-day trip was when they officially became boyfriend and girlfriend. The trip made them realize that Vancouver was the city for them and so at this point, they returned to Iran to gather everything and prepare to move to Canada. “After four months, we permanently moved to Vancouver to start a new journey,” shares Moko. On February 14, 2015, the couple were spending their first Valentine’s Day together and made a reservation at cincin, a romantic Italian restaurant in Vancouver. After finishing the second course, Moko made his move, suddenly kneeling down to present Azadeh with the ring. Her eyes filled with tears and she said “yes!” Everyone around them started clapping and the restaurant opened a rare bottle of champagne for the newly-engaged couple. The wedding took place on October 1, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Jenny De Jong of countdown events planning & design provided full-service planning. The couple’s invitations were designed by the groom’s company, moko design (Moko is an interior architect and designer).
Azadeh’s satin gown, shoes, and veil were all designed by Rosa Clara. She also wore a sparkly headpiece custom-made at Beauty by Azadeh, which featured Swarovski crystals that mimicked the beading on her gown. Jewellery included a Chopard watch, diamond tennis bracelet, and diamond earrings, all from lugaro jewellers, and a diamond necklace from alaghband jewelry in Tehran.
One of the bride’s closest friends and bridesmaids, Banafshe Farahmand, is a fashion designer and designed the gowns worn by herself and the maid of honour.

In keeping with the clean and contemporary aesthetic, white acrylic tables from éclat decor inc. filled the room and were complemented by white clear back Louis chairs. Place settings featured crystal charger plates from Éclat Decor Inc. and white ceramic doves from Iran that doubled as guest takeaways. “We ordered handmade ceramic doves as our wedding favors, not only because doves are a symbol of love and peace, but also because we wanted everyone in the room to take a symbol of our taste and our design sense with them to their homes and decorate their houses with this symbol of our love,” shares Azadeh.
MODERN MOMENTS Azadeh and Moko’s wedding ceremony was held in Tehran in March 2017 so they could celebrate with family members who were not able to come to Canada. Their fall wedding reception in Vancouver was held in the Emerald Ballroom at the fairmont pacific rim. The couple’s main vision was to have a “modern and stylish boutique autumn wedding.” According to the bride and groom, the
season has a very special meaning in Persian culture and they wanted to pay homage to that through unique florals. “Autumn carries very strong feelings, especially in poetry and visual art, that’s why the floral design had to be special because flowers are the visual symbol of love and autumn is the season of lovers,” says Moko.

The couple sat at their own sweetheart table made of glass and supplied by éclat decor inc. The sleek table was covered in white candles sitting in cylindrical candleholders of varying heights. There were also rectangular glass bowls along the front edge of the table that were filled with white calla lilies and more white tealights. The couple sat in white Vogue chairs from Éclat Decor Inc.
“Our biggest priority for planning our wedding was having a unique, modern, and also stylish wedding with our personal touch, and because of that, we designed almost all the details of our day.” –azadeh
As an extra special touch, the guestbook was actually a 3.5-ft by 5-ft puzzle made out of magnetic place cards designed by moko design. On one side of the place card was a spot to write well wishes for the bride and groom and on the other was part of a larger image that only came together when all cards were placed inside a frame. In the end, the finished puzzle created a photo from the couple’s engagement shoot. “Instead of having a wish book, we will always have one of our wedding photos on the wall with the wishes from our guests, and we can take a piece and read it anytime,” says Moko.

As the evening progressed, the room got darker and became increasingly romantic. “The emphasis was on the romantic glow of candles and unique floral designs,” shares planner Jenny De Jong. psav provided their lighting services throughout the reception. Guests danced the night away on the white dance floor embellished with the couple’s orange monogram, designed by moko design and produced by éclat decor inc. The pair’s favourite part of the wedding was the live musical performance. Azadeh and Moko had fallen in with a song called “Asoudeh” by Hamed Nikpay. According to the bride, “It was a divine fusion of flamenco and traditional Persian music.” As it happens, the bride’s brother is a professional tar player and one of her bridesmaids is a professional Persian singer so they decided to have them, along with a flamenco-style guitar player, perform live at the wedding. “We did a tango dance to this masterpiece of love, which we have to say was executed in the most perfect way possible. We both started crying after our dance,” recalls Azadeh. The couple have yet to go on their honeymoon but plan to visit the United Kingdom. They currently reside in Vancouver, where Azadeh is the makeup and hair artist at the helm of beauty by azadeh and Moko is an interior architect and designer.

riel Chiu and Adam Steele first connected online on a dating site in June 2012. Multiple coffee dates turned into four years of on-and-off dating until they finally started their relationship anew in January 2015. Within a few short months, they had moved in together and one year later, they co-purchased their first home. When it came to the proposal, Ariel admits that given her profession (she is the owner and lead event planner of wonderstruck events), Adam certainly had his work cut out for him! Luckily, the groom enlisted the help of Ariel’s future wedding coordinator and friend, Nargess Tabrizy of fleur de lis events. Together, they concocted the perfect proposal. The first step was booking the York Room at hawksworth restaurant in the rosewood hotel georgia for November 18, 2016, the night he planned to propose. One week in advance, Adam invited Ariel to dinner at Hawksworth Restaurant and a comedy show, and also casually suggested she get a manicure. “Given that he had never suggested such a thing before, I immediately suspected that he was planning to propose,” remembers Ariel. However, her hopes were then dashed when Adam mentioned that two of their friends would be joining them on their evening out. Despite this setback, Ariel continued researching venues and serendipitously came across the York Room at Hawksworth Restaurant. Since they were dining there on Friday night, Ariel figured she would reach out to schedule a tour before dinner. Friday night came around and Adam was noticeably flustered en route to the restaurant, but Ariel didn’t think much of it. When they arrived, the hostess led them upstairs to the York Room. As they entered the event space, Ariel noticed a romantic table for two set in the corner and an aisle lined with candles. “It wasn’t until Adam pulled me over to the stained glass window that everything began to sink in—he was about to propose!” Ariel was in total shock. The next thing she knew, Adam was down on one knee. Of course, she accepted and they enjoyed dinner while being serenaded by a solo guitarist, before heading to the comedy show. Shortly after they found their seats at the show, Adam got a call saying he’d left his credit card at the restaurant. The two popped back to Hawksworth Restaurant and upon re-entering the site of their proposal only a few hours earlier, Ariel was once again surprised, this time because she found all of their closest friends and family waiting for them. “With the help of Nargess, Adam had pulled off a surprise engagement party right after our proposal. Needless to say, we never did make it back to the comedy show, but instead, had the most wonderful evening with our friends and family as we celebrated our engagement.” The wedding took place on September 2, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. As the owner of Wonderstruck Events, Ariel planned her own wedding. Nargess Tabrizy of Fleur de Lis Events was hired to oversee everything on the day-of.
Ariel bought her wedding dress no less than one week after her engagement! The Rosa Clara gown was purchased from blush bridal. She accessorized with Valentino heels from holt renfrew, diamond drop earrings from minichiello jewellers, and a veil from Blush Bridal. Her bouquet from sunflower florist consisted of white and cream roses, lisianthus, and greenery, tied with a classic ivory satin ribbon. www.wedl u xe.com

The couple said “I do” in the very same spot Adam proposed nine months earlier, the York Room at hawksworth restaurant. Ariel remembers being extremely calm on the day-of until it came to the moment right before walking down the aisle. According to the bride, “My dress was so big that I almost knocked over one of the pillars at the end of the aisle when I turned the corner! I stuck my tongue out at Adam at one point in the ceremony, and that made him laugh and calmed both our nerves.” sunflower florist created oversized arrangements for the ceremony that sat in front of ivory draping from art of the party design inc. Food was incredibly important to the couple, who are both self-professed foodies. Thus, Hawksworth Restaurant, one of the best fine dining restaurants in Vancouver, was the perfect venue. For the ultimate wedding favor, Ariel and Adam treated their guests to black and white portraits shot, edited, and printed on-site by the collective you. Overall, Ariel and Adam’s wedding was a dream come true for the bride. “As a planner, I really enjoyed designing the decor for my own wedding. It was great to know exactly which vendors I wanted to work with and to bring my industry friends aboard to help conceptualize my wedding design,” shares Ariel. For their honeymoon, the newlyweds spent five weeks travelling Europe. Upon their return to Canada, the pair settled back into their daily routines, where Ariel is the owner of wonderstruck events and Adam is in internet marketing. 74

For the reception, hawksworth restaurant’s York Room was transformed once again. The same gold and white Louis chairs from the ceremony surrounded two harvest tables and were complemented by gold leaf charger plates from éclat decor inc., gold candelabras with white taper candles, and crystal candlesticks with white pillar candles. Ivory satin linens from Éclat Decor Inc. and clean black and white menus from maurelle calligraphy & design adorned with the couple’s custom monogram finished off place settings.

M
egan Chang and Joe Konrad, both doctors, first met in Providence, Rhode Island while they were working at Rhode Island Hospital. Megan was completing an Interventional Radiology Fellowship and Joe was completing his Radiology residency. Knowing he wanted to spend the rest of his life with Megan, Joe proposed en route to a beachside dinner in Meads Bay, while the two were vacationing on the Caribbean island of Anguilla. With Kimiko Hosaki of k.h & co. elevated experience providing full event planning and design services, Megan and Joe tied the knot in a destination wedding in Maui, Hawaii on July 9, 2017 at haiku mill. “Our wedding planner was incredible. Kimiko was so organized in her planning and follow-through. We had no worries at any point in the process and were extremely pleased with her attention to detail, professionalism, kindness, and willingness to go above and beyond without even being asked,” shares Megan. The wedding was designed by Kimiko Hosaki of K.H & co. Elevated Experience and coordinated by elements by k.h & co., a destination coordination event company founded by Hosaki. the lettering studio created the couple’s classic and timeless invitations, which provided a subtle glimpse into the design of their big day. “Once I designed the hanging vine installation for the dining room at Haiku Mill, I carried the vines onto the invitations by adding a hand-painted stem of gold leaves,” shares planner Kimiko Hosaki, who also designed all stationery.

When it came to the cocktail hour and reception, also held at Haiku Mill, the bride’s only request was that she really wanted to see hanging greenery incorporated into the design. Once again, Elements by K.H & co. dreamed up something truly spectacular. The design concept, dubbed “secret garden,” was brought to life with the help of teresa sena designs, who handwove ivy and amaranthus into 22-ft long ropes suspended from the ceiling. “When I started to present the idea of large, full, low-hanging lines of greens with soft white touches that guests would literally need to navigate their way through, I thought Megan and Joe would think I was crazy,” shares planner Kimiko Hosaki. Instead, the couple went along with it, and the end result was a wild jungle perfectly in tune with Haiku Mill’s natural setting. In keeping with the bride’s classic style, gold accents in the form of flatware, wine glasses, and dishware, all from set maui, Chameleon chairs from winters events, and candlesticks from Pua Le’a & Co. created an elegant and timeless feel. Later in the evening, guests indulged in the white, two-tier wedding cake with ruffle detailing and fresh flowers from cake fanatics. They were also treated to Hawaiian cookies from honolulu cookie company, which served as guest takeaways. As the ultimate wedding favor, Megan and Joe, with help from Kimiko Hosaki, arranged for each of their guests to join them on a sunset dinner sail the following evening. According to the groom, “It was both a way to show our appreciation to our guests for coming to our destination wedding and another way to celebrate.” The couple remained in Hawaii for their honeymoon and stayed at the four seasons resort maui. The newlyweds currently reside in Little Rock, Arkansas, where they are both physicians.

R
osa Beyat and Ali Mazinani met on February 7, 2009 through mutual friends at a dinner party. Ali was about to leave, but once he and Rosa noticed each other, he decided to stay and it became obvious that they couldn’t take their eyes off one another. He finally went up to her and they hit it off right away. The night ended too soon, but it wasn’t long after that Ali asked Rosa out on a date. “We ended up having our first date on Valentine’s Day and it was only the start of many other dates,” shares Rosa. Seven years later, Ali was in the midst of organizing an epic proposal to take place on the day before Rosa’s birthday. In the days prior, Ali told Rosa that he had something special planned for her, revealing only that she needed to be ready on time and wear something warm. When the day came, Ali called Rosa and asked her to be ready even sooner than he’d originally said, but didn’t provide further explanation. Ali drove them to the secret destination and upon their arrival, Rosa saw a helicopter and realized Ali was taking her on a romantic helicopter ride. They boarded the aircraft and flew to a scenic lake, where they got out to walk around and take in the natural surroundings. Just as Rosa turned to comment on how beautiful it was, she saw Ali down on one knee. “It was the most special, breathtaking moment of my life,” recalls the bride. Turns out, the reason Ali told Rosa to be ready earlier was that the weather had taken a turn, and they needed to get to the helicopter before it got worse in order to ensure Ali’s dream proposal went off without a hitch! The wedding took place on August 18, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia. Haleh Tafteh of details by haleh provided full-service planning and design assistance.

It was on the dance floor that Rosa and Ali had their first dance as husband and wife. “We loved having our first dance. We had practiced this before in front of family, but the day of our wedding, everything went so smoothly. We were completely in that moment together, not noticing anything else,” shares Ali.

For their Insta-worthy honeymoon, Rosa and Ali travelled to the Maldives, where they stayed at the sheraton full moon resort & spa. It was relaxing, quiet, and the ideal spot to celebrate being husband and wife.” The newlyweds currently reside in Coquitlam.

A Whimsical Baccarat Garden
Azadeh and Arash were wed in a Persian ceremony held at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Details by Haleh designed the traditional sofreh aghd, which was undoubtedly the focal point of the ceremony. The sofreh sat on a bed of white rose petals and was topped with crystal candelabras and symbolic elements, including a mirror that was covered in orchids and greenery by tala florist. Louis chairs and an aisle runner from éclat decor inc. completed the decor.
A
zadeh Anvari and Arash Shakoori both met in Iran during the summer of 2013. Though Azadeh was living in London at the time, she was on holiday in her home country for the season. One night, a friend invited her to a house party, which happened to be hosted by Arash. They met at the party and she played hard to get, but he made every effort to grab her attention. “That night began the journey of meeting the love of my life,” recalls Azadeh. One year later, the pair were on vacation in Europe. Their first stop was Belgium, which Arash had strongly insisted on. Azadeh couldn’t understand why at first but would later realize it was part of Arash’s thoughtful proposal (he had planned to meet Azadeh’s mother and sister in Brussels to ask their permission to marry her). While in Brussels, they stayed at the beautiful hotel amigo. On the second night, after having dinner at le rabassier, they took a stroll through the city. Arash stopped by the royal museum of fine arts of belgium where two violinists, hired by Arash, were playing on the staircase. It was at this moment that he reached into his pocket and gave his phone to Azadeh. He told her to open his photo gallery, where she found a photo of her late father’s tombstone in Iran with a bouquet of flowers on it. Arash then looked Azadeh in the eyes and said, “I told your dad I would take care of his little girl. Azadeh Anvari, will you marry me?” According to the bride, “It was the most magical day any girl could dream of.” The wedding took place on September 8, 2017 in Vancouver, British Columbia at the rosewood hotel georgia. Haleh Tafteh of details by haleh provided full-service event planning and design assistance. “Haleh was extraordinary to work with, very easy to communicate with, and extremely meticulous; she took on the entire project as if it were her own wedding,” shares Arash. The invitation suite was inspired by the theme of the wedding, “A Whimsical Baccarat Garden,” and was adorned with crystals, pearls, and a gold motif. All stationery was designed by Farhad Hadi Mosaffa.
Azadeh’s ball gown was custom-made in Dubai. She accessorized with Christian Louboutin heels, a Rolex watch, a customized tiara, and jewellery from mozafarian in Dubai. Her engagement ring was from cartier. Tala Florist designed her chic and simple bouquet of ivory roses.

The reception was also held at the rosewood hotel georgia where éclat decor inc. and tala florist transformed the ballroom into a magical indoor garden filled with fresh foliage and luxe crystal accents. “The overall theme of my wedding was ‘Whimsical Baccarat Garden,’ shares Azadeh. “The halls were laced with lush exotic greens and flowers, creating a surreal, fragrant, and natural setting dazzling with crystals.”

The head table ran down the centre of the ballroom and held two 20-ft tall trees covered in Italian ruscus and orange jasmine, which filled the hall with a beautiful scent. Each tree had two crystal chandeliers from Éclat Decor Inc. hanging off them. Alternating high and low centrepieces comprising orchids, garden roses, hydrangea, and snowberries added texture to tablescapes. White pillar candles on crystal candlesticks and crystal candelabras from tala florist added a luxe feel.

The bride and groom enjoyed their own sweetheart setup, where they sat in Milano chairs at a vintage mirrored table from éclat decor inc. Behind them was a wall of white draping, also from Éclat Decor Inc., and the same four oversized arrangements of ivory florals and greenery that stood behind the sofreh during the ceremony.

Persian food was catered by cooq. ganache patisserie prepared the couple’s five-tier, salted caramelflavoured wedding cake with butterscotch fondant. The gold confection stood behind the sweetheart table and featured edible fondant pearls and marzipan flowers. Guests were also treated to a dessert station from the Rosewood Hotel Georgia that consisted of triple chocolate mousse torte, cappuccino mousse cups, salted caramel tarts, macarons, blueberry financiers, cheesecake, and fruit salad. Guests took home ornaments containing sweets from Farhad Hadi Mosaffa. In addition, “It would’ve been a shame to let the flowers die,” shares Azadeh, so as a token of the couple’s appreciation, they handed out bouquets of orchids and roses to their guests as they said goodbye. The couple currently resides in West Vancouver, where Azadeh is a cosmetic laser technician and Arash is a real estate developer.
