Monteney Mail Self-Esteem Our Skill for Learning this half-term is SelfEsteem. Throughout the halfterm the children will be focussing on developing their self-esteem. This also links to our SEAL (Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning) which is “It’s Good to be Me”. Within our Skills framework, there are several strands within Self-esteem, these include: I can tell people who I
am I can show how I feel using pictures and/or words. I can deal with my feelings in a positive way I can communicate about the groups I belong to. I can tell someone what I am good at. I know what makes me feel safe and secure. I can explain what makes me special. I can discuss my beliefs and can explain
why I have them. I can accept advice. I can try new activities I can recognise that I can learn from making a mistake; I can try again Talk with your child about these skills and support them in developing any of them.
RE and Arts Week We had a very creative week celebrating RE and the Arts in final week of last half term. All of the children had the chance to explore a world faith through literacy, dance, music, art and drama. Some of the highlights included an assembly from John O'Brien at the start of the week
where he brought the Christian story of 'The Prodigal Son' to life, a visit to the local Sikh temple (Gurdwara) by the Y3s followed by delicious food kindly cooked by Dilan's mum, magical tessellating Islamic art and beautiful stained glass windows inspired by the Rose Window at York Minster! Staff
and pupils always love asking questions, having conversations and being creative in RE and the Arts week; we had a wonderful time!

Maths Workshops Following on from the success earlier this year we will be holding some more workshops during maths lessons. These sessions are designed to enable you to support your children at home so that they can enjoy and achieve in mathematics. It is also an opportunity for you to become more involved with their learning during school time. We are inviting parents in so that you can see how we teach certain calculations and so that you can see that maths is fun, it’s not just texts books and worksheets!!! Please come along to one of the workshops.
