Reception News Autumn Term Welcome to Reception at Monteney. We hope your child settles well into life at ‘big school’! Thank you for your support with transition from nursery to school, and a big thank you for letting us visit your child at home. We found these home visits very useful and we hope you did too! We will begin our learning this term with a big focus on class rules and routines. You may have heard your child talking about our ’Good To Be Green’ behaviour scheme. This is a positive reward system based upon our class rules, which are listed below. We have been looking out for your child following our rules at school—look out for photos on our learning wall of all the positive behaviour we have seen!
Speech and Language The children are all currently being screened to check that their speech and language is developing at an appropriate level. If there are any concerns we will let you know and inform you of support your child will receive in school.
Twitter & Blog We will post photographs of your child’s learning and keep you up to date with school events on our Twitter page and class blog. Check out the blog at — http://monteneyelearnin g.org/staffblogs/monten ey/learningjourney/ and twitter at— @monteneyFS2
Alphablocks is a fun and fantastic resource provided by The BBC. You may want to explore this resource at home by looking at the web address below: http://www.bbc.co.uk/cbeebies/alphablocks/
To support positive behaviour we also have a special Good to be Green prize draw on Fridays.

School Dinners
All children from Reception (FS2) up to Year 2 will be eligible for free school meals. If you would like to take advantage of this opportunity then please help your child find their name during self registration and drop it into the hot meal box. There is an additional option of a grab-bag which contains a sandwich (ham, tuna or cheese), a dessert and juice, if you would like to choose this option then please inform us personally of their sandwich choice so that we can record it separately. Alternatively, if you would still like to bring a packed lunch in from home then please ensure your child places their name into the box marked with a lunchbox. Thank you for completing the Pupil Premium forms. The school office will contact parents/carers with further information if you are eligible for the Pupil Premium.
Water Bottles Please remember to bring a named water bottle, containing plain
unflavoured water only please, to school each day. The
children are encouraged to have regular drinks of water throughout the day to help maintain a healthy body.
PE In the next couple of weeks, we will be starting P.E.! At this beginning stage, we begin with changing shoes and socks but by October we will be supporting children with a full kit change. Please ensure your child has a P.E. bag containing black shorts, white t-shirt and a black pair of pumps. Please check that all clothing (especially pumps!) fits after the summer break. Please also ensure that every item is labelled. If your child wears ear-rings, you need to make sure that they have some surgical tape in their PE bags so that we can help them to cover them up and make it safe to join in PE. Alternatively, you could remove their ear-rings. We do support the children with changing for PE. However, as you can appreciate, supporting a full class with changing themselves can be very time consuming and the children can become frustrated with themselves and upset. Our target for this term is for all children to be able to dress and undress themselves independently. You can help at home by asking your child to dress and undress themselves without your support. We will keep you informed about how your child is progressing towards this target.
Reading and Phonics at Home Workshop We will soon be starting to teach phonics sessions to help your child to learn to read and write. We will be holding a reading and phonics session for parents and carers in Autumn 2 with dates to be confirmed. This is a chance to find out how we teach phonics in school, how we assess reading and how you can help your child at home. Please look out for a sign up sheet which will be in class at some point in the weeks to come.
If you need to talk to a member of staff please wait until the end of the day when all the other children have left.
