Year 4 Class news Autumn Follow our class!

Creative curriculum. This term our new topic is ‘The Romans!’

We are really excited about the launch of our new year 4 Twitter account! We will be using Twitter to keep you informed of all of the exciting things that your child has been doing during school! Follow us! @monteneyY4

Children will be exploring the sometimes gruesome history of the Romans and will be taking part in a variety of interesting and exciting activities. We are really looking forward to seeing all of the different creative projects that the Y4 children will create! Your child can create anything they like for their creative project at home. Here are some past examples:

Reports, poems and diaries

Artwork and models,

Presentations and ICT work.

ICT Home learning challenge..

P.E Kits.

.Our PE days this year for both classes are a Monday and a Friday, Children can leave their PE kits in school and take them home at weekends. Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit and is ready to take part in their learning.

Swimming We know that lots of the children are really excited to start their swimming lessons in year 4! This year, we have been allocated sessions that will begin in February and further details about this will follow after Christmas.

Look what else is happening... Homework.

Y4 Spelling homework! Every week, your child will be given 10 spellings which we will be practicing throughout the week. There will then be a spelling quiz every Friday. It would be fantastic if you could continue to support your child with these spellings.

Reading at home. We are really excited to be launching our brand new reading records next week! Please support your child with their learning by reading every day for 10 minutes.

Homework will start in year 4 next week. Children will be given 2 pieces of homework a week: literacy and numeracy. The literacy will be online based using google docs, which your children already know how to access. Numeracy will be a series of games and challenges for the children to complete independently at home. Homework will be handed out on a Friday and due in the following week. Children who do not have access to the internet at home can use the learning zone in school. There is also a Year 4 homework club every Thursday in the learning zone that children can attend with an adult.

We are really excited to be holding our very own Roman day right here at Monteney! We have invited 2 Roman soldiers into school to spend the day preparing us for life in the Roman times. We will also be having a Roman banquet on this date with a selection of Roman foods for children to sample! Please see the attatched letter for further details!
