Nursery News (Foundation Stage 1)
Autumn Term 1
Welcome back after the summer break and a warm welcome to all our new children who are starting with us this term. We look forward to getting to know them and their families. For your information please see below the new Nursery School session times that have started this week.
Morning Session: 9.00am until 12.00pm Doors open at 11.45am for children to be helped to get ready to leave Nursery and for the chance for you to talk to staff if you need to.
Afternoon Session: 12.30pm until 3.30pm Doors open at 3.15am for children to be helped to get ready to leave Nursery and for the chance for you to talk to staff if you need to.
Full Day Sessions: 9.00 until 3.30pm As mentioned at our recent Parent Meetings for all new children starting at Monteney Nursery school, it is really important that all children are collected on time. Regular late collection of children will be monitored. As an academy we are exploring the option of charging fees for the late collection of children. Linked to this topic we will also monitor the attendance of every child in Nursery. As an oversubscribed Nursery, full day sessions are particularly in demand. The school monitors the attendance of all children carefully as previously we have found attendance to be lower on the Wednesday half day sessions. As all nursery providers are funded by attendance, persistent absence from nursery may affect the sessions offered to you at Monteney Nursery. Please do talk to the staff about this if you have any questions. Also Nursery fees for this half term will now need to be paid in full. Thank you for you co-operation.
School Meals If your child is staying for a full day session in Nursery, you may wish to take the opportunity to have a hot school meal provided by our kitchen. The meals cost ÂŁ1.75 and are payable on the day. A menu showing the lunch for the day will be on display very shortly in Nursery. If you feel that you are eligible for Free School Meals then please contact the school office.

Skills for Learning
Box Modelling
During our group sessions we will be talking with your children about the skills we need to practise and show to be successful learners. These skills are:
The children love box modelling and making models out of junk! To do this we need a constant supply of junk materials.

Please can you collect and send in to Nursery cardboard tubes (wrapping paper, kitchen roll tubes etc), large and small boxes, small plastic bottles and milk bottle lids.
Eyes watching Ears listening Body calm Voice quiet
We are using photographs of familiar people to our children in Nursery to help them to understand about listening and attention and what our bodies look like when we listen. If you would like any more information or advice with how to support your child then please do ask a member of the teaching staff.
Cardboard Tubes, Boxes, Small Plastic Tubs and Milk Bottle Lids
Request Each morning/afternoon please ensure that you help your child to find their name card and put it on the board. Please try not to do it for them, instead, encourage them to look for the initial letter in their name and begin to recognise the shape their name makes.
How you can help your child at home? These are a few simple ideas and suggestions of how you can help your child and reinforce the learning your child is doing in nursery. Encouraging Independence During the foundation stage we encourage children to be as independent as possible. It would be helpful if you could practise some aspects of this at home: Flushing toilets and washing
Tidying up after themselves
by reinforcing the slogan ‘Choose it, use it, put it back’ Putting on and fastening their own coat Putting on (and taking off) jumpers or cardigans Putting on socks and shoes
Mrs Wilkes! Many congratulations to Miss Salkeld who got married over the Summer holidays. We are all trying to remember to call her by her married name now… Mrs Wilkes!
