Year 1 News Spring Term 2 Welcome back. We hope you found our parent consultation evenings useful.

We will be working towards the targets that we discussed with you and would appreciate your support at home.

This half term our topic is about animals, with a focus on ocean animals. As with our Arctic topic, the children love learning about the animals and we are all very excited about our trip to The Deep! Any facts or information texts they want to bring in to share with the class will be great!

This half term we are lucky enough to have some

eggs in class which we are keeping in an incubator to hatch into chicks. The children are so excited to see and look after the new chicks. This will link in with our science topic about animal life cycles.

You are welcome to come and visit our eggs and chicks in Miss Hughes’ class.

The Deep As you are aware we have booked a trip to The Deep for Thursday 23rd March. If you have not yet paid for the trip please can we ask you to do so because if we receive insufficient funds the trip will have to be cancelled. Payments need to be in by Friday 9th March. If you have a problem with this please let a member of the Year One team or office staff know. Can we also ask that your child is on time on the morning of the trip as we will be leaving at 9.00am. Your child will need a packed lunch. The coach company estimates that we will be back by 3.30pm (slightly later than the normal school day).

Creative Homework Task See if you can make your own ocean puppets and create your own puppet show.

Come and show the rest of the class what you have created.

Can you make up a story using your puppets?

Will it be a scary story?

Will it have a happy ending?

Independent Learning Challenges!

In Year One we want to encourage children to be more independent with their learning. You may have noticed that around the classroom we have put some ‘learning challenges’ in the different continuous provision areas. The children can take part in these challenges when they come into school in a morning or when they have finished a task during learning time. The children can post their independent learning into our ‘challenge box’ and at the end of the week we will award a medal to a child who has produced work of a high standard.

Please feel free to support your children to complete one of these challenges in a morning before register time. We hope that this will help children to adopt a more independent approach to their learning throughout the curriculum.
