Year 4 News Summer Term 1 This half term the children will be learning about Life in India. We are asking that pupils make/do a project at home to bring in to share with the class by Wednesday 30th May. Literacy—writing instructions, stories about imaginary worlds and enjoying fantasy poetry. We are also recounting traditional Indian stories and comparing life in Britain and

India. Numeracy—one and two-step problems, including using calculators to help with our numeracy. As always we will be working on our times tables. (see Homework) PE—Tag Rugby and Athletics. Science—Friction and other forces.

& creating Rangoli patterns, Henna hands and paper bags (using repeated patterns). Music—exploring and comparing traditional and modern Indian music. Geography—identifying the landscape and features of India and an Indian town. SEAL—Finding out about relationships; including issues to do with loss.

The first week back was Science week. Throughout the week we looked at different way things moved. The children enjoyed completed a range of ‘Move it’ workshops with different teachers. Thanks to all the children and parents/carers who created a futuristic vehicle.

Your child should be reading for 20 minutes per night . Please encourage them to complete their Reading Record. We would love one of the Y4 classes to win the £100 to spend!

Maths—Your child can access times tables and ‘Learn its’ homework online on e-zone2. Both of these offer timed challenges so the children can compete against themselves. Education City— There are ‘My City’ areas for literacy and numeracy groups . We would encourage pupils to complete at least one activity for each subject per week. If you need any help with this please come and see someone from the Y4 team.
