Year One Class News Summer 2015 DATES FOR YOUR DIARY Y1BC Class Assembly :

Welcome back to school for the Summer Term! Our topic this term is ‘Our Amazing Bodies’. We will be exploring the question ‘How do we keep our bodies healthy inside and out?’ We are very excited to get stuck into lots of experiments this term, and our class trip to Eureka

Our Amazing Bodies

This half term we have organised the fantastic opportunity to visit Eureka! At Eureka the children will have to opportunity to explore the ‘All About Me’ gallery ,where multi-sensory hands on exhibits encourage them to explore how their body works.

Exhibition: Our Exhibition will take place at the beginning of July. We will confirm the date nearer the time.

As we are now in our final term of Year One, we are starting to prepare the children for starting Year Two next year. We would like to ask for your support in this by encouraging them to become more independent. In the mornings if you could begin to encourage your child to change their own reading books, and if parents could begin to leave promptly after dropping off your child this would help them prepare for Year 2. We thank you for your support in this.

We would like to say a big thank you to the Parent volunteer readers from last term. The children have really enjoyed reading with you and we can really see them progressing in their reading! So again, Thank for your support! We hope to see you this term too!

Y1 Phonics Screening.

As we are sure you are aware children in Y1 are required to take a Phonics screening check in June. We are very busy in school preparing for this and will be holding a Parents Phonics morning on May 1st for you to join in with a phonics session with your child. We will also be holding a parent meeting about the phonics check for you to find out more about what your child is expected to do. Look out for a letter coming home soon with more information about this!

PE Kits Please make sure that your children have the correct PE kit in school. This consists of black shorts, white t-shirt and black pumps. As the weather improves we will be taking the children outside for PE and so it is important that they have suitable footwear for this. Y1 have PE on Mondays and Thursdays.

Book Bags and Reading Diaries Friday is prize day in Y1. All children who have read and had their homework diaries written in every day that week win a prize!

Please also make sure your child has their reading diary in their Book Bag in school everyday. Lost book bags can be replaced at the office.

As always homework will be given out on a Friday to be completed and handed in to the Class Teacher by Wednesday, Please continue to support your child with this.
