Builder’s Notebook

1432 presented an exceptional opportunity and challenge as I sought to weave together all the various components of home design: elements of the site, local neighborhood architecture, past architectural work from Philadelphia’s R. Brognard Okie and Walter Durham, ideas in garden and landscape, trends in interior and exterior floorplans and selections of finish materials imbued with interesting textures and colors. The goal was to create a home with a formal elegance that respected the architectural past and that fit the neighborhood setting, but that had a decidedly modern appeal...a home more focused on style, comfort and function, rather than formality and grandeur. I wanted a home more casual and relaxed...a home that fit and felt like your favorite jeans...more denim than suit and tie...more weekend than boardroom…a home for family and entertaining. We call the result: Farmhouse Modern.

INTERIOR DESIGN Weiss’s latest architectural interpretation of Farmhouse Modern drives the direction of our design team’s interior design aesthetics. Salvaged materials such as reclaimed wood beams are used to accent a neutral palette. A creative blend of textures including stone, wood, and metal diffuse and reflect daylight through full walls of glass. Statement lighting continues to make the home glow once the sun goes down and adds to the overall feeling of comfort and warmth. Striking details catch your attention as you enter each new space. A floating staircase greets you inside the impressive three-story foyer that offers views from the front of the home straight through to the Outdoor Terrace. Three generous fireplaces warm the first floor spaces and invite people to gather and stay for a while.
