"Learning from John Portman" is a graphic novel -or more precisely an 'Archicomic'- about not only architecture but also the architect himself. John C. Portman's intentions and his achievements as one of the most successful and pioneer architect/developers of his time are the starting point and the main focus of this narrative. It starts from more than 60 years ago and over decades depicts the relationship between different actors who influence real estate projects: from downtown Atlanta to the Brussels Northern Quarter. In this regard, this mini-novel will take a look at the ZIN project, a dazzling, modern, innovative reconstruction project by the owner of WTC towers to also revitalize the district. A fundamental question will be asked: Are the ZIN project and its Greenhouse supposed to be a space for everyone to use? Or will we see the formation of a new privately-owned public space -like Portman's Atrium- for certain groups of people but this time in Brussels?
