Neltje: Dialogue of My Mind & Tell Me, Why Flowers? March 14, 2020 - July 12, 2020 Neltje's paintings are intense, complex, and larger than life. In her late 30s, Neltje began her excursion into the discipline of Sumi-e painting. That practice became the core of her later work. Dialogue of My Mind is Neltje's first figurative series, which she painted following the 2016 elections. Inspired by the end-of-season explosion of color in her late-summer gardens, Tell Me, Why Flowers? evokes the spectacular, but fleeting, joys of life.
Equal: A Work In Progress May 15, 2020 - October 25, 2020 Kristi Hager, a Missoula-based photographer and painter, presents a series of paintings on unstretched canvas that includes portraits of herself, her great grandmother, and Ruth Bader Ginsberg. Inspired by the 2020 centennial of women’s suffrage, Hager says, "I was thinking of the long struggle to get equal rights for a lot of people, not just women."
North X Northwest 2020 May 28, 2020 - August 2, 2020 The YAM’s second annual juried exhibition, North x Northwest, features work in a variety of mediums by contemporary artists from across the United States. The exhibition introduces new artists to the region, showcases emerging regional artists, and features long-time favorites. In addition to Juror’s Award and People’s choice, the exhibition will fund up to $5,000 in purchase awards for the YAM’s collection.
Cudra Clover: Hysteria July 23, 2020 - September 18, 2020 Hawaiian artist Cudra Clover will be featured in a multimedia solo installation that reinterprets “feminine” space. Her sumptuous silk paintings and surrealistic interior décor allude to traditional abstraction and decorative arts, the overstimulation of the digital age, personal health issues, and the implicit historical bias in the word “hysteria.”
Jane Deschner: Remember Me August 13, 2020 - October 4, 2020 Over the course three decades and countless hours, Jane Deschner has created and stitched together an installation of 500 found photographs embellished with embroidered obituary text. She hand-embroiders the text from newspaper

obituaries onto the images she has collected, using the insistent, devotional act of stitching to create a collective, empathetic narrative.
Brooke Atherton: Mothers And Daughters October 15, 2020 - January 10, 2021 Materials and labor are central to expression for Billingsbased artist Brooke Atherton. Her work visually describes her journey across the American West. Her fabric and mixed media drawings are layered from silk, cotton, and wool, using non-traditional methods to manipulate the fabric, such as ripping, burning, and rusting, representing the effects of natural forces. Many of her works relate specific stories and events, with underlying themes of passage through time and space.
Tracy Linder: Close Range November 12, 2020 - January 10, 2021 Tracy Linder grew up on a family farm and her work is strongly connected to the agricultural land of Central Montana. Her paintings, sculptures, and mixed media installations explore relationships between people and the environment, machinery and plants, preservation and extraction, the profit and loss of family farming, the shifting nature of food systems, and cycles of life and death.

NOVA Center for the Performing Arts will host our annual celebration "Love of the Arts" on Friday, February 14th at MoAv coffee 2501 Montana Avenue. The event is a fundraiser for NOVA Center for the Performing Arts. Doors open at 6:30 P.M. An Evening with Sherlock Holmes Show Dates: January 31-February 2 & 7-9, 2020 in the Black Box Theater.
NOVA Center of Performing Arts. Evening performances are 7:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, Sunday performances are at 2 p.m. only. An Evening with Sherlock Holmes is, indeed, unique. Three one-act plays showcase the skills of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson, aided by housekeeper Mrs. Hudson and the Baker Street Irregulars. A collection of memorable characters, both good and evil, enhance the action. Reminiscent of a 19th century London pub, this production offers a variety of performers sharing their talents. Much like a revue, there will be short performances before the “Evening” gets under way, as well as a bit of fun and music between each individual “case” that is presented. The game’s afoot with mayhem, mystery, music and merriment. The triad of one acts begins with The Adventure of the Noble Bachelor, the tale of a British aristocrat, Sir Robert, who marries an American heiress because his family fortune has run out. However, on the wedding day, his young American wife, Hatty
Doran, disappears. Sir Robert immediately calls on Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson to uncover the mystery of what has happened to Hatty. The Milverton Adventure, pits Holmes and Watson against a nefarious blackmailer, Charles Milverton, who is blackmailing one of Holmes' clients, a woman who wrote several damning letters to a former lover that could, if revealed, destroy her impending marriage to the Earl of Dovercourt. In his effort to save his client, Holmes plans a radical solution: burgling Milverton's house and retrieving the damning correspondence. On the night of the burglary, however, Holmes' and Watson's attempt is interrupted by an unforeseen incident. In the concluding case, an original play written in the style of Arthur Conan Doyle closes out the evening. The Disappearance of Adam, makes this evening with Holmes unique. In this final one-act, the great detective….the super sleuth of innumerable cases, must solve the riddle that has puzzled the most brilliant minds in history!
Community pond grant money available Groups or individuals interested in constructing or improving a community fishing pond have until Feb. 1 to apply for a Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks’ Community Pond Program grant. The objective of the Community Pond Program is to enhance public fishing opportunities in or near Montana communities by providing funding that may be used to construct or improve a public fishing pond. Applicants must provide at least 30 percent of the total project cost, which can include contributions such as heavy equipment time, construction materials, labor, engineering services, and more. Anyone wishing to sponsor a project may apply. A total of $60,000 in grant funds is available for ponds with public fishing opportunities.
Since 2003, the Community Pond Program has funded projects that benefit young anglers and their families by providing locations where individuals of all ages can learn angling skills. Additional information on the Community Pond Program, including a grant application form, is available on the FWP website at fwp. mt.gov, then clicking on "Community Pond Program." Applications, which are accepted each year, must be received on or before Feb. 1. Applicants are required to contact their local FWP fisheries biologist to obtain project support. The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale Receives Largest Donation in Organization’s History The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale is honored to announce that it has received the largest single donation in the organization’s history. Jack and Adrea Sukin and family, and Robert and Sandra Sukin and family, through their company Montana Development Co., have arranged to donate their building at 2824 Second Avenue North in Downtown Billings, to be the future home of the Symphony’s office. An official appraisal of the building will be done in early January. Local businesses The Sassy Biscuit Co. and Brockel’s Chocolates will remain in the building, along with other current tenants, Something Chic and Mist Salon. “On behalf of the board, staff, musicians, and supporters of the Billings Symphony, we are thrilled and honored to accept this gracious gift from the Sukin family,” said Ignacio Barrón Viela, the Symphony‘s Executive Director. “We are already working on designing what will be an incredible space to host music events, share stories, and explore partnership opportunities with our Symphony friends, family and patrons,” he added. The donation could not have come at a better time for the Billings Symphony. In early August of this year, the Symphony learned that the Montana Bank Building, which has been their home for the past 15 years, was to be sold to the Big Sky Development Economic Association, which would need all of the available office space. Since then, the Symphony has evaluated over 30 potential new locations based on its needs, which include remaining downtown, accessibility, street level visibility, and close proximity to its home venue, the Alberta Bair Theater. Jase Norsworthy, a former president of the Symphony’s board of directors and a broker at Re/Max of Billings, has been assisting the Symphony in its search for a new location. He said, "To be honest I can't quite get my arms around the magnitude of this gift. I'm so excited about what it's going to do for the Billings Symphony. When you combine the thrilling news of the building with the upcoming re-opening of the newly renovated Alberta Bair Theater, some truly exciting things are happening downtown, and the Billings community is the prime beneficiary. There's just a lot to celebrate here!" Norsworthy said, "This single act of generosity by the Sukin family is completely transformative for every other dollar we raise, because those dollars can now be allocated in their entirety to the things that lie at the core of our mission - like education, community outreach, and first-class programming. This gift is a huge win for all of our stakeholders, especially the Billings community. It's very exciting." The Billings Symphony plans to remodel the existing office space, which comprises approximately 3600 square feet, to include not only office space but also meeting space to facilitate collaboration with other local arts groups. Costs associated with the remodel will be offset by a generous donation from long-time Symphony supporters Dr. John and Patricia Burg. “Coming at the same time as the incredibly generous gift from the Sukin family, this major gift from the Burgs is all but
overwhelming,” said Bob Griffin, president of the Symphony’s board of directors. He added, “It would be impossible to overstate how much we appreciate both the financial support we have received from Pat and John Burg over the years, as well as Pat’s musical contributions as a soloist and long-term member of the Chorale, not to mention her work as a board member. We thank both of them from the bottom of our hearts.” Anyone who may be interested in contributing to the cost of renovation should contact the Symphony Office, at development@billingssymphony.org. The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale plans to move into the new building once renovations are complete in the summer of 2020. The Billings Symphony Orchestra & Chorale is the largest professional orchestra in Montana. Established in 1951, the Symphony strives to enrich lives through music. Consisting of over 135 musicians, the Symphony serves a regional population of 400,000 people located throughout South Central and Eastern Montana as well as Northeastern Wyoming through its six regular season concerts, its free Concert in the Park, and over 100 outreach and educational events annually. Audubon Center & Outdoor Exploration
The Montana Audubon Center, adjacent to Billings and on the Yellowstone River, is a great place for walking, trail running, nature-watching, and learning about the plants and animals of the area. The site is located on the Riverfront Park portion of the Heritage/Dutcher Trail system. Its fifty-four acres of managed habitat contain three miles of accessible trails and three ponds as well as a variety of native plants, most of which have been planted as part of its 20-year restoration process from a gravel mine. One popular feature of the site is the Shepard Nature Playspace, Billings’ first and only Nature Playground, where kids are free to balance on logs, dig in the dirt, and build forts with our supply of sticks. A series of demonstration gardens near the building, including the Helen Carlson Cummins Bird Garden, are also an opportunity for learning about native plants and birds. Because of both wildlife and year-round education programs on site, visitors are asked not to bring pets. The public is welcome from sunup to sundown every day. There’s ample parking and easy on-off access to Interstate 90. On the immediate site and adjacent Norm’s Island and Riverfront Parks, staff at the Center offer a variety of public and private programs for exploring and learning about the natural world. Our on-site Fledglings Nature Preschool and Nature Nuts programs are designed for the under-5 set. Family and adult programs are held multiple times each month are are low-cost or free for members. Montana Audubon Adventure Camps provide week-long day camp fun each summer, and we host nearly 100 classrooms each school year for field trips. We also offer Homeschool Science classes, themed birthday parties, and private events through the year.
