The only thing that pairs better with wine than food, is live jazz. The 3rd annual Lake Chelan Wine and Jazz Festival showcases internationally acclaimed jazz artists and celebrates the wonderful wineries, historic downtown, and remarkable beauty of the Lake Chelan Wine Valley.
WHAT TO EXPECT: This four-day event offers Festival Pass holders a musical tour through the Lake Chelan Wine Valley. Twenty three jazz performances take place at ten wineries and venues around the lake. Lake Chelan AVA wines and a variety of food options will be available at each music venue during performances. • Enjoy live jazz at 10 wineries and venues throughout the Lake Chelan Wine Valley • Food and Lake Chelan AVA wines available for purchase at performance venues • Dine at a variety of eateries and wineries around the lake, shop in the historic downtown district of Chelan, or visit the Manson area tasting rooms shops and restaurants • Explore the Lake Chelan Wine Valley by water, boat, or limousine

Seattle Earshot Jazz Golden Ear Awards Winner of “NW Instrumentalist of the Year,” flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny, and vocalist Holly Pyle appear with an all-star band in a program highlighting the music of Stevie Wonder. Flugelhornist Dmitri Matheny has been lauded as “one of the most emotionally expressive improvisers of his generation” (International Review of Music). An honors graduate of Berklee College of Music, Dmitri Matheny vaulted onto the jazz scene in the 1990s as the protégé of jazz legend Art Farmer. Since then he has garnered critical acclaim and a loyal international following, releasing eleven CDs and touring extensively throughout the United States, Europe and Asia. “A long-gigging jazz singer” (excerpt by The Seattle Times), Stephanie Porter has performed at just about every club, festival, arena and theater in the PNW. She has been recipient of an Earshot Golden Ear Award for top vocalist. That evening Earshot’s Director mentioned it was the year of “The Peoples Choice”. In the 1990’s Stephanie was an early member of Hit Explosion, one of the most popular Dance Party Bands on the West Coast. Collin is a Seattle native, and has been experiencing the rich musical culture playing jazz in town for over ten years. Following his passion of Jazz from a young age Collin graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Jazz Studies. He is best known for leading the house jazz trio at Sullivan’s Steakhouse since May 2010. When he’s not traveling around playing at various events, you can see find him at Tula’s restaurant and Jazz Club with the Smith Staelens Big Band and the Jim Cutler Jazz Orchestra. His music is inspired and influenced by a wide variety of musicians from Monty Alexander and Oscar Peterson, to modern tunes like Esbjorn Svensson, Hiromi, and The Bad Plus. Reflecting Seattle’s diverse music culture, Collin brings his vibrant energy to the crowd every time. STEPHANIE PORTER SUSAN ROBINSON Seattle-based Jazz Vocalist Susan Lowman Robinson began by performing rock and folk music all through her 20’s. After writing and recording an album for KNHC Radio, her music style shifted and she discovered her passion for singing Jazz. Immersing herself in the Jazz culture of Seattle, Susan performs across the Pacific Northwest and into the Caribbean. She sings sultry Bosa Nova, classic and creative jazz & borrows some blues now and then...always a fun show! Her latest passion project is her studio album released last May. The album “ Happy Hour” is experiencing success here and internationally. “Matassa’s performance was a marvel of virtuosity.” —Los Angeles Times In the Pacific Northwest, where she built her career, Greta Matassa wins wide acclaim; 7 times, the readers of Earshot, the Seattle jazz magazine, have voted her the best jazz vocalist in the Northwest. She was inducted into the Seattle Jazz Hall of Fame in 2014. Jim Wilke, the Seattle jazz maven and host of the syndicated “Jazz After Hours” radio program, praises her versatility. “She has a fearlessness in approaching material,” Wilke says, “that makes her like an instrumentalist in a jam session.” Bassist and producer John Clayton says “One of the best jazz singers we have to boast about these days.” Her 40 year career has been a whirlwind of exciting opportunities and experiences. Over the last 20 years she has become established as one of the greatest jazz singers of her time. Working with top jazz musicians in Los Angeles, Chicago and New York. In 2016 She was featured with bassist John Clayton’s group in a centennial tribute to Ella Fitzgerald. She has recorded 11 CD’s. Her latest release “Portrait” on Origin Records is receiving rave reviews. Her decision to start teaching was probably her greatest contribution to the future of the genre she loves so much. For the last 20 years Greta has become one of the most unique and respected educators in the field today. Kobie Watkins is a professional drummer and percussionist in jazz, latin, and gospel music genres, and a music educator. Pursuing his true passion and enhancing his talent through education, Kobie attended Vandercook College of Music studying all forms and genres of the percussion family with Marc “Max” Jacoby (vibraphonist/ mallet) and Kevin Lepper (percussionist), both teachers igniting him to reach greater achievements and goals. While learning percussion and all other instruments, Kobie’s extra curricular time was spent playing jazz standards and trading solo-s with alto saxophonist Dennis Winslett. Kobie could also be found playing in local theatre and cabaret shows. In 1998, Kobie played in the Walt Disney World American All- Star Band in Magic Kingdom (Orlando, FL). He became a public school band director. At night, he played gigs around the Chicago area and throughout the United States. Watkins developed the nickname the Swing Master of Chicago. He was depicted in a frontpage article in the Joliet, Illinois’- Herald, -a local newspaper titled, “Teacher has Alter Ego as Jazz Musician. The Kobie Watkins Grouptet is a Surge of musical groove and melody. Drawing on years of artistry performing and recording internationally with jazz legend Sonny Rollins and many many others Kobie Watkins is taking the music in an exciting personal direction. Seating types at performance venues will vary so please be prepared. Some venues will have tables/chairs, chairs only, or lawn seating only. It is strongly recommended that you bring lawn blankets and/ or low-profile stadium chairs to the venues.

The Jazz Festival program lists all artists, performance locations and times. The schedule is also available at www.chelanwinejazz. com/schedule. Expect about 30 minutes between performances when two shows are at the same venue.

Thursday night’s performances and performances at Larc Hill Vineyard Ranch are 21 and over only. All other performances on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are for all ages.
Q: Is wine and/or food available for purchase at the music venue?

Wine and food will be available at every venue – prices, offerings, and food availability varies by venue. Food and wine are NOT included in the price of your Festival Pass.
