MATTERS ARISING

Wendover Parish Council Page Matters Arising

View from the Chair

A busy few months are coming up for both the grounds team and the clerks. The grounds team are getting the village spruced up after the trials of winter. Getting everything ready for another bid for the Best Kept Village title. This year we are partnering with Lindengate Mental Health Charity. Lindengate use gardening as therapy so they have an expertise in all things planty. We’re hoping that they’ll give our hanging baskets even more zing than usual...

The clerks are busy getting ready for our Annual Parish Meeting on 30 April (now cancelled due to COVID-19). I’m looking forward to meeting you all there. This year we’ll be bringing you up to date with the parish council’s plans, as well as announcing our Community Award winners and hearing from some of the community organisations that we’ve supported with grants. Entertaining speakers, a modicum of wine, nibbles and the chance to question your councillors, surely that is the making of a good night out. It’s been a good year for the Wendover Parish Council and 2020/21 looks promising too.

Whether there is to be a Parish Council election very much depends on how many people wish to join the council. Information is on our website and candidate packs are available at the Clock Tower if you would like to stand. I’d highly recommend being a parish councillor. It’s a great way to help shape the community that we all enjoy, and it’s ever so much easier and more rewarding than you might think.

Happy to Chat Bench

On 9 January 2020 the community of Wendover was asked to vote, via a Facebook poll, whether they would like the bench outside of Lloyds Chemist to be turned into a Happy to Chat Bench. This resulted in 95% voting YES. The Happy to Chat Bench is now installed, why not give it a try? Sit on the bench and see who joins you for a chat! Don’t forget to follow @wendoverparish on Facebook to participate in future votes.

Wendover Clean Up

In support of the Great British Spring Clean, Wendover Parish Council are hosting two litter pick events on 7 and 17 April. Join us in a community effort to keep Wendover tidy, meet new people, and get some exercise! Meet us at the Clock Tower anytime 10am12pm on one of the two dates, to pick up litter for as long as you like. Refreshments and equipment will be provided.

Buckinghamshire Council is changing

On 1 April 2020 the new Buckinghamshire Council will replace all five of the district and county councils in Buckinghamshire. (See also article page 12.) For most people there will be no change to the day-to-day services you use. As it stands, there are no changes in the services that Wendover Parish Council provide, however, we do expect to take on more devolved services in the future. Please visit www.wendover-pc.gov.uk/services to view the latest list of services.
