Help to cope with bereavement
Coping with bereavement is a personal thing but having someone to talk to can make a real difference. The Rennie Grove Bereavement Support Line provides this listening ear and offers support when you or your family, friends or colleagues need it. The recent coronavirus crisis has been particularly challenging for those whose loved ones have died. With restrictions on visiting hospitals, care homes or private homes in place, opportunities to say goodbye and be with people at the end have been limited. Helpful methods of acknowledging grief such as funeral and memorial services have also been restricted, making it especially difficult for many to come to terms with their loss. Whether the loss is recent or not, if you or someone you know needs help to cope with bereavement, Rennie Grove’s team of trained staff and volunteers can help. You can call the Bereavement Support Line on 01727 638008 at any time and a member of the team will call back on the next working day. Trained to listen with empathy but without judgement, our team will work with you to find a way to help, signposting you to other forms of support if needed.
Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s Light up a Life goes virtual
Rennie Grove Hospice Care will be holding a virtual Light up a Life service this December to give local people the opportunity to remember loved ones as Christmas approaches. The introduction of the virtual service has come about because its usual annual Light up a Life services held in local communities in Herts and Bucks are unable to go ahead as a result of the pandemic. Television presenter Pam Rhodes, famous for hosting Songs of Praise, will present this non-denominational virtual service on 13 December at 5pm. The video will be hosted on Rennie Grove’s website and shared so that people can join together for the service from the comfort of their own home. “We’re sorry that it won’t be possible to hold our popular local in-person services this year, but we hope that this virtual service will offer everyone some comfort as well as supporting Rennie Grove Hospice Care’s essential work in the community,” said Rennie Grove Head of Family Support, Lisa Makey. The service will include poems read by children, a moment for reflection, and songs performed by solo singer David Mills. There will also be a moment for those watching at home to light a candle in memory of their loved one, and the opportunity to watch the lights being switched on over the Christmas tree.
Lisa Makey, Head of Family Support Services at Rennie Grove explained: “We recognise that different people need different levels of support but it is important that no-one feels alone when coping with bereavement.
