Sustainable Shopping in Wendover Budgens Fresh Food
Many people are becoming more concerned about their footprint on the planet so they are looking for ways in which they can buy good things to eat and to use without destroying our wonderful world. Our shopkeepers are thinking along similar lines so it was no surprise to see that Budgens had another refurb so as to offer yet more choice. • Since Friday 25 September, there has been a great selection of loose fresh fruit and vegetables, plastic free, perfect for saving food waste. 45 different products to choose from! • Another new feature - a Refillable Wine Station in partnership with Borough Wines, London. Six varieties of wine, now available for you to try in store! Empty Bottles available for purchase* *Refill prices are per 75cl of wine purchased. For the most revolutionary new line - Grab and Go, Debbie Tompkins was consulted to advise on fresh food aspects of the revamp. Debbie has prepared meals for so many local people over the past 25 years that you’ve probably enjoyed her food at some Wendover event.
In recent months, many people who are used to the vibe of working in town (London to the rest of us) have spent 24/7 in Wendover but are looking for the same variety and interest offered in the Big Smoke. Fortunately, Wendover already has lots of cafés which each offer a unique service and restaurants featuring cuisines from around the world. Now Budgens is able to offer Grab and Go food which is all made instore by trained chefs who prep and wrap from ingredients found on the shelves. It is hoped that students from the Aylesbury College Catering School will bring their cooking knife skills to Wendover. Everything will be freshly prepared and when it’s gone, it’s gone. Debbie was very flattered to be asked to critique and advise and immediately set to work - and she brought a mantra with her –
true, honest, good. She has put her heart and soul into this project and hopes everyone will enjoy the food. This has been her life’s mission.

Debbie has worked tirelessly dropping in samples and tasters to Budgens staff and all her friends. Now she is happy for you to enjoy her endeavours. Hopefully, this fresh range will appeal to those going to and from the gym; needing a welcome break from their home desk; mums on the run; energetic people who have big appetites (those baguettes filled with roast beef etc have to be eaten!). The packaging has been sourced from a local company. It is made sustainably and can be disposed of in recycling bins. Having sourced the best bread and basic ingredients from the shelves of Budgens, Debbie has devised delicious menus to tempt the jaded palate after a morning of WFH. Why not pop down to Budgens to pick up something which will sustain you and leave you feeling good so that you can return home to work having eaten well. The range will be developed and reflect seasonal produce. Balanced food to tempt young children is also envisaged.
Let’s get Wendover eating well.
