Aston Clinton

ABEL Martin Labour

Martin is a retired teacher who lives locally and has direct experience dealing with Buckinghamshire Social services. RAF Halton has been vital to our economy for over 100 years. Its closure will be devastating and rob the community of jobs and opportunities. The danger is that the land will be sold off to developers and a sprawling urban expansion will result. Martin believes Halton should be redeveloped as a Technical Institute offering a range of qualifications, similar to Cranfield University. The facilities already exist. Only the vision and drive are missing.

CHAPPLE Bill Conservative

Bill moved to Buckinghamshire from Devon in the mid 1970s. He was first elected to the County Council in 1977 and has been a Councillor ever since. As a farmer’s son and former firefighter Bill has true rural values and has always done his best for the communities of the eight villages and Parishes this ward covers. Bill is Vice Chairman of Aylesbury Garden Town Board and Cabinet Member for the Environment and Climate Change on Buckinghamshire Council.

COLLINS Mike, Conservative

Mike and his wife have lived in the area for more than 50 years, mainly in Aston Clinton. Mike spent the majority of his working life in the healthcare sector where he designed and developed medical equipment for the NHS. Prior to retiring he spent 12 years with the British Heart Foundation. He is a member of the Oxford Universities Hospitals NHS Trust, also Secretary of the Aston Clinton and District branch of the Royal British Legion. Elected to AVDC in 2015 he is a member of Buckinghamshire Councils Health and Social Care and Children & Education Committees.

HOWELL Geoffrey Liberal Democrat

I am Geoffrey Howell, I grew up in Weston Turville and attended Aylesbury Grammar School. After studying music and modern languages, I taught in comprehensive and boarding schools and sang in Carlisle and Durham cathedral choirs. After ordination, I served as a rural vicar, cathedral priest, and police chaplain in various parts of England and Wales. In 2016 I retired early back to Weston Turville to become a family carer and get active with local Liberal Democrats. My key interests include social justice, reforming social care, education, policing, and disability issues (I was born with cerebral palsy). “It should be about what Bucks Council can do for you,

NEIGHBOUR Adrian Independent

"It should be about what Bucks Council can do for you, not to you”. As your local Independent Councillor I will work robustly to ensure that the best interests of our area are heard and heeded; whether in helping to shape future social, economic and environmental policy decisions that affect us all or the delivery of customer focused services. A record of strong & effective advocacy for the area. Will work to raise the standard of outcome based Council decisions. Will work to secure greater value through joined-up Council working. Postgraduate, experienced in public policy development.

SHERWELL Alan Liberal Democrat

I’m a former District Councillor with 18 years’ experience including chairing the Policy and Resources Committee and 10 years on Development Control. Member of the Residents’ Liaison Group with ARLA since it was formed. Director of Aylesbury United Football Club and Chair of the Elizabeth Eman Charity. I strongly believe in the devolution of power to Parishes and local communities where they wish it. The big danger with a Unitary Council is that it will centralise decision-making even more. Local decisions need to be taken locally, not from the other end of the County.

SULLIVAN David Green

I graduated from Kingston University in 1985 with a degree in Earth Sciences and became passionate about the fate of our planet and the damage being caused to our atmosphere, oceans and ecosystems. This may be our last chance to conserve what is left so nature can begin to heal itself. We owe this to future generations, to our children and grandchildren. I promise to do everything in my power to make it a reality.

WARD Julie Conservative

Born in Aylesbury, Julie worked in education at a local secondary school for 15 years. She lives in Bierton with her husband, who runs their family business, and daughter. Julie has served as Town, District, County and Unitary Councillor since 2007, serving as Deputy Mayor and Cabinet Member. Since 2008, Julie has been a committed activist against inappropriate mass development. She was a founder of the “Say No To Eastern Arc” campaign, which in 2010 defeated AVDC’s plans to build from Watermead to Weston Turville. She has never voted for development in our area and remains a committed community campaigner.

He is committed to: protecting our villages from over development and increased flood risk; ensuring new development provides healthcare facilities; reducing traffic on main routes and through the villages; improving air quality in and around Aylesbury; zero tolerance on litter and anti-social behaviour.

Wendover

BOWLES Steve Conservative

Steve was elected as a District Councillor in 2011 and as a County Councillor in 2017. Steve is cabinet member for Town Centre Regeneration and chair of the Aylesbury Garden Town Board. Steve has opposed HS2 since it was first announced and continues to work with the community to ensure the area gets the best possible mitigation. Steve believes that by working together we can improve our community and ensure a bright future for all of us.

DIXON Fran Liberal Democrat

I am Fran Dixon. I am a local student studying animal welfare. I, like many of our residents, have a keen interest in our environment and how it is managed and can be improved. The issues surrounding HS2 are a real and genuine concern to me and many residents across Wendover, Halton, and Stoke Mandeville. I want to put pressure on HS2 to deliver on promises and act within the interests of residents. I will stand with you, listen to you, and work to ensure that our area is fully represented on Buckinghamshire Council.

GALLAGHER Clive Liberal Democrat

I am Clive Gallagher. I worked in the City for over 35 years advising businesses and banks globally. I now work with several local charities. My family and I have been residents of Stoke Mandeville & Wendover for over 25 years. I am concerned about the impacts of HS2 and house building programmes across Aylesbury Vale that, if left unchecked, will result in Halton, Stoke Mandeville & Wendover becoming parts of Aylesbury. I am keen to ensure that local businesses are supported in the right way post lockdown. I want to use my experience to ensure local views are represented.

HODGE Joanne Green

I have lived locally for the past 9 years and have two primary school aged children. As a teacher of geography I feel that children’s education and awareness of environmental issues is key to a more sustainable future. The Green Party's resolve to develop a more child-centred approach to learning is one I strongly advocate, ensuring every young person has the opportunity to fulfil their potential.

HODGE Tom Green

I am a Geography teacher in a local secondary school and have lived in and around Wendover for about a decade. With two primary school aged children I feel that improving the connection young people have with their environment is the best way to secure a more sustainable future. The Greens are the only party truly committed to environmental, social and economic justice.

LANDER David Labour

David lives in Wendover and is passionate about the environment and ensuring access to green spaces. During the pandemic, David has worked on the Oxford University & ONS Covid Infection Study and seen first-hand its impact on mental health and the damage sustained by local businesses.

With many new homes planned locally, we must have the services and infrastructure in place to cope with the increased population. David will work to deliver this, rebuild and speak up on the issues that have a real impact on your quality of life.

NEWCOMBE Richard Conservative

An Aylesbury Vale resident for 35 years, Richard moved to the area to work as a Prosecutor for Thames Valley Police, based in Wendover. Elected to AVDC in 2017 Richard is now Chairman of the Audit & Governance Committee, and sits on Infrastructure and Planning Committees where he promotes energy efficiency. On Buckinghamshire Council he has been working to mitigate HS2. He is a member of the Chilterns Conservation Board as protecting our AONB from both HS2 and overdevelopment are hugely important to Richard.

STRACHAN Peter Conservative

Cllr Peter Strachan is standing again having been initially elected in 2011 and re-elected in 2015. A former Wing Commander, Peter was posted to RAF Halton in 1996 and he settled with his family in Wendover in 2004. Currently, Peter is Vice Chairman of the Council and a Planning Chairman. Peter believes that because he lives within the community he represents, it means that he has first-hand experience of local issues and priorities, such as getting the very best possible mitigation for HS2. If re-elected, he pledges to continue to do his absolute best for this community in Buckinghamshire Council.

WALSH Tom Independent

I'm Tom Walsh (Independent), recent chairman of Wendover PC. I understand the complex issues that our communities face. I'm known for my contribution to the Manor Waste refit, straightening the Clocktower and facilitating the Wendover Good Neighbour Scheme. I am also known for Standing Up to HS2. I hope that on May 6th, you’ll remember that the major political parties are bringing HS2 to blight us. A vote for Tom Walsh (Independent) is a vote to Stand Up to HS2, to hold them to account, but it’s more than that. Together we can give our communities a clearer voice in Buckinghamshire Council.

WILLIAMS Julie Freedom Alliance

The price of lockdowns is too high with soaring mental health problems, beyond damaging effects of social isolation, closure of businesses, missed cancer diagnoses, and restrictions in essential healthcare to name a few. Every worker is a key worker and we should all enjoy the same rights to earn a living and send our children to school. I am unaware of illness/death rates of key worker children throughout the lockdowns. My child has been forced to spend months in isolation from her peers. Together we can ensure the vulnerable are safe while the rest of us get back to living normally.
