Hospice marks 32 years of care in Buckinghamshire

Thirty two years ago this autumn Florence Nightingale Hospice welcomed its first patient to the In-Patient Unit at Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury.

Built thanks to the generosity of the local community, the Hospice has cared for and supported tens of thousands of local patients, and their families, over the years.

The Hospice now provides both in-patient care and community care nurses who support patients in their homes. Additional services have been introduced to improve the patient’s quality of life such as Florrie’s Children’s Team, offering respite care to the families of children with life-limiting illnesses and the Lymphoedema Clinic.

Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity commits to fund £1,000,000 of hospice care in the local area every year and to mark this anniversary, is asking the local community to help fund one day of hospice care. It costs £2,740 every single day to run services at the Hospice, and every donation will help patients and their families get the care and support they need at the most difficult of times. Nightingale's Rainbow completed

Nightingale’s Rainbow, the giant rainbow structure built to recognise and remember the resilience and kindness of Buckinghamshire through the Covid-19 pandemic, was officially completed 3 November on the site of Stoke Mandeville Hospital in Aylesbury.

At 5.5 metres tall and 8.3m wide the Rainbow is the first permanent tribute to the Covid-19 response in the country.

The structure is also the focal point for a fundraising campaign to support Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity and Buckinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust’s Charitable Fund. Each of the thousands of coloured Rainbow Tiles which form the Rainbow can be dedicated to any individual or group with a message of thanks or support on the virtual Nightingale’s Rainbow. You can find out more and add your own Rainbow Tile dedication at www.nightingalesrainbow. org.uk.

2021 Tree of Light

Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity is offering a virtual Tree of Light commemoration service, Books of Honour, and an online dedication page to support those who have faced the loss of a loved one this year.

From 5pm on Saturday 18 December until the New Year, the virtual Tree of Light commemoration service will be available to view on the Florence Nightingale Hospice Charity website. To sponsor a dedication or to access the virtual Tree of Life service go to fnhospice.org.uk/tree-of-light.
