Do Something for Charity Football to Amsterdam On 1st June, 46 cyclists representing St Albans City FC (SACFC) left the Velodrome in Stratford’s Olympic Park, on a 145 mile pilgrimage to Amsterdam to help stop prostate cancer being a killer. Alan Smith, former Arsenal and England striker and Lawrence Levy, Chairman of SACFC were among the group joining 400 football fans cycling to Ajax’s Amsterdam Arena. Also cycling was Neil Yapp Director of Fircroft Tree Surgery Ltd, who said “It was a great opportunity to mix with some fantastic people to raise awareness of the disease, meet people who have experienced the illness themselves, or had loved ones or friends who’ve been affected by it. Some riders were currently undergoing treatment or have survived it! Most importantly we wanted to raise money towards the ongoing battle to beat a disease that kills one man every 45 minutes. 330,000 men are diagnosed with prostate cancer every year.” The teams’ fundraising, at time of going to print was an unbelievable £65,463, but they need more donations to make this year’s total even more special. All donations to SACFC riders go directly to their total, and will be passed on to Prostate Cancer UK. To donate visit justgiving.com/fundraising/neil-yapp
