Organised by Herts Visual Arts, it introduces artists to the general public, galleries and other enterprises, bringing an awareness of the diversity of talent available throughout the county. Artists demonstrate their creativity in action, which is often viewed by members of the public as being one of the most valuable aspects of the event. Interaction with visitors can be a catalyst for new ideas and can build confidence, so visitors are encouraged to talk to artists about their work or even have a go themselves.

Bigger and Muddier than Ever! Registration is open for The Hospice of St Francis’ Mud Pack Challenge II taking place in the beautiful grounds of Ashridge House on Sunday 18th October. Promising lots of muddy fun, the challenge involves crawling, wading and climbing through the 190-acre gardens and woodland negotiating wet and muddy obstacles along the way. There are two distance options of 5km or 10km, new muddy obstacles, including The Mound and The Swamp, a special Spectator Squirting Zone and a super snazzy lime green technical sports T. Fran Martin, Events Manager at the Hospice said: “We are so excited about Mud Pack II, the sequel! With over 600 participants last year, local people showed us that they love the chance to do an exciting new challenge which is a little out of the ordinary – but most of all to have fun! Mum-of-two, Caroline Atkins, has signed up for the second year running with her son James. They did last year’s event on their own, but this time round, 23 friends are joining them as team "Paul's Mucky Mudders,” and they’re all taking part in memory of Caroline’s late husband Paul, who passed away at the Hospice in June last year. "Last year James and I did it on our own and it was such good fun! We loved the way that it wasn’t competitive, that you could go at your own pace and have a mud fight if you wanted,” says Caroline, a Guide Leader with the 2nd St Albans Guides. “But this year, we thought that we could have even more fun if we entered as a team - so we have and we’re raring to go!” The event is open to anyone with a basic level of fitness and is perfect for ages 15+. Places are limited so don’t delay, sign up now at www.stfrancis.org.uk/mudpack. You are asked to raise a minimum sponsorship of £50 to help the Hospice raise the £4.7m it costs every year to fund its free care for people living with life-limiting illnesses - 80% from voluntary donations. 01442 869555 cathy.salmon@stfrancis.org.uk www.stfrancis.org.uk
