Introduction to Level II Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints

God created fruit trees to grow and bear fruit (Genesis 1:11-29; 2:9). Likewise, God wants Christians to grow in the grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ and bear spiritual fruit (John 15:7-16, II Peter 3:18). The essence of spiritual growth and bearing fruit is discovered in the great commission of our Savior (John 14:21-23; 15:10-14, Matthew 28:18-20). Before our Lord Jesus ascended to Heaven, He left His followers some very important instructions. These instructions are known as the great commission and are found in Matthew 28:19-20. Jesus said, “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.” Matthew 28:19-20 There are three parts to the great commission of Jesus Christ: 1. “Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,” is the first part. Here the word teach is translated from the New Testament Greek word μαθητευσατε. This is the second person plural first aorist active imperative of μαθητευω as recorded in the Textus Receptus (Greek New Testament). The word means to teach in such a way as to make disciples. The first thing we must teach is to repent and believe the gospel (Matthew 4:17, Mark 1:1415). Thus, we must first share the gospel and bring souls to salvation in Jesus Christ (Acts 14:21-22, Romans 1:15-17; 10:9-15). 2. “baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost.” is the second part. Baptizing means to immerse in water (see study #12). After souls are saved, they must be baptized by immersion in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:41; 8:37-39; 16:30-34). 3. “Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:” is the third part. It is extremely important that we understand the context of Matthew 28:20.

5 Jesus was speaking to His disciples (Matthew 28:16). Therefore, the “all things whatsoever I have commanded you,” in verse twenty refers to the commands Jesus gave His disciples during His earthly ministry (the New Testament commands of Jesus Christ). Without a doubt, the third part of the great commission of Jesus Christ is often the most neglected in Bible-believing, fundamental churches. In obedience to our Savior, level two will focus on the New Testament commands of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:20). However, before you study the New Testament commands of Jesus, you must prepare your heart to seek the Lord (I Samuel 7:3, II Chronicles 12:14; 19:3; 30:19, Psalm 119:112). This involves prayerfully diagnosing your current heart condition. The usage of the word heart in study #13 is not referring to the physical heart. Rather, we are speaking of the innermost center of your mental and spiritual life. Note: You will need a pencil or pen and a King James Bible to complete each study. When you come to a question or a verse of Scripture with missing words, open your Bible to the reference indicated. Answer the question or fill in the missing words from the Bible verses given. At the end of each study there will be a brief quiz to complete. May our Lord Jesus abundantly bless you as you study and obey His Word.

What are you going to do with God’s Word? Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #13 by Nolan McFadden

Text: Matthew 13:10-23 Now that you are saved, it is certain that God is doing a very special work in your life. You are being conformed to the image of Jesus Christ (Romans 8:28-29). This means that God is desiring to shape your thought life, attitudes and actions to reflect his Son (Philippians 2:5). Conforming to Jesus Christ involves a heart willing to turn from the old, sinful ways in order to pursue spiritual growth and a wonderful transformation in Christ (Romans 12:1-2). As you conform your thought life, attitudes and habits to God’s Word-the Bible, you will be conforming to Jesus Christ (John 14:15; 17:6-10). Therefore, how you respond to Bible teaching is extremely important. Which response to the Scriptures is that which Jesus wants for your life? A. After hearing God’s Word, I refuse to believe it (Luke 8:12). B. After hearing God’s Word, I choose to receive it joyfully as the truth. However, in time, I will not continue in God’s Word because of offense, persecution or tribulation. C. After hearing God’s Word, I choose to set it aside in order to pursue that which is more important to me. I choose to make the priority of my life a preoccupation with the worries, riches, status symbols and pleasures of this life. D. After hearing God’s Word, I choose to receive it in my heart (Ezekiel 3:10, Psalm 119:11). By God’s grace, I choose to obey and continue in God’s Word and bear spiritual fruit in my life with patience (Luke 8:15). According to the New Testament, the correct answer is D. There are four kinds of people in Christ’s parable of the sower. The seed is God’s Word-the Scriptures (Luke 18:11-12, John 10:35). Each kind of person represented in the parable responds to God’s Word on the basis of that which is in his or her heart (Matthew 13:15). Thus, there are four kinds of heart conditions presented in this parable (Matthew 13:14-15). What are they? I. The sin-hardened heart of unbelief (Matthew 13:19, Luke 8:12). A. This kind of person cannot understand God’s Word because of a sin-darkened, hard heart (Matthew 13:15, Mark 3:4-5, Romans 1:21-22; 2:50, Hebrews 4:2). B. People with this heart condition might attend a Bible study once or twice out of curiosity. However, their hearts are not open to the truth so they do not return (Acts 16:14, Hebrews 4:2). C. “Those by the wayside are they that _____________; then cometh the ______________, and ___________________ away the word out of their __________________, lest they should __________________ and be __________________.” Luke 8:12 D. What is the result of this heart condition according to Luke 8:12? ______________ _____________________________________________________________________

7 II. The pretending heart without commitment to Jesus (Matthew 13:20-21, Luke 8:13). A. This kind of person receives with joy God’s Word as truth in his or her mind. However, when the time comes to prove his profession of faith in Jesus by continuing in God’s Word in spite of offense, tribulation or persecution, he departs (Matthew 13:21, Luke 8:13). B. These people did not lose their salvation. They never had the salvation of the Bible (Matthew 7:20-21, John 10:27, I Corinthians 15:2). In reality, these people never really knew Jesus nor did He dwell in their hearts (Matthew 7:23, Romans 8:9-10, Titus 1:16). Their professions of faith in Jesus for salvation were false (John 6:64-69, II Corinthians 11:26, I John 2:4). Their hearts are not sincere. These are the people who play church. To them, Christianity is merely a family tradition and/or a cultural obligation. C. An excellent example of this is found in John 6:64-69. Many were attracted to Jesus because of His miracles but they rejected His message. What is your motive for following Jesus? Are you following Jesus for material gain like those in John 6:2627? Are you coming to Jesus only because you want to see spectacular miracles and signs like those in Matthew 12:28-39? OR Is it the desire of your heart to follow Jesus as the Lord and Master of your life? D. “In journeyings ______________, in perils of _________________, in perils of ___________________, in perils by mine own _________________________, in perils by the _________________, in perils in the ____________, in perils in the ____________________, in perils in the __________, in perils among ______________ ___________________;” II Corinthians 11:26 E. According to the last part of II Corinthians 11:26, Paul faced, “perils among f______________ b_____________________” during His ministry. F. Since a false profession of faith is in reality a lie, who is the spiritual father of false brethren according to John 8:44? __________________________________________ III. The heart devoted to material things (Matthew 13:22, Luke 8:14). A. This kind of person is preoccupied with obtaining material status symbols. They are consumed with the worries, riches and pleasures of this life. See Matthew 13:22 and Luke 18:14. These people are usually not satisfied or content with what God has provided (I Timothy 6:8-10). B. These are people with the wrong priorities in their lives (Colossians 3:2). They lack the simple faith to give God first place in their lives and to trust Him to provide the necessities of this life (Matthew 6:33). C. These people serve material gain as the Master of their lives (Matthew 6:24, Mark 8:33-38). D. “No man can _______________ two ____________________: for either he will _____________ the one, and ____________ the other; or else he will hold to the one, and __________________ the other. Ye cannot serve ___________ and _____________________.” Matthew 6:24 E. According to Matthew 6:24, Jesus taught that it is impossible to serve both “G__________ and m____________________” at the same time as the master of your life (Matthew 6:24).

8 IV. The good and sincere heart (Matthew 5:8; 13:23, Luke 8:15). A. These people choose to follow Jesus and obey His Word regardless of the cost (Luke 8:1-3,15). B. These believers prove their professions of faith in Jesus by continuing in God’s Word (Luke 8:15, John 8:31-32; 10:27). C. These people have spiritual fruit in their lives (Luke 8:15). The fruit of the Holy Spirit is seen in their lives (Galations 5:22-24). They want to share God’s Word and bring souls to Jesus (John 2:40-46; 4:39, Acts 8:4). D. These people have hearts that are open and teachable for God’s Word (Psalm 119:11, Ezekiel 3:10, Acts 2:41; 16:14; 17:11, James 1:21-22). E. “Wherefore lay apart all filthiness and ________________________ of naughtiness, and receive with ______________________ the engrafted _______________, which is able to _____________ your souls. But be ye _______________ of the ______________, and not _________________ only, ______________________ your own selves.” James 1:21-22 F. How are we to receive God’s Word as recorded in James 1:21? _______________ Which of the four kinds of hearts best describes the condition of your heart today? _____________________________________________________________________ Who or what is the master of your life? Circle one. fear / work / esteem / unbelief / alcohol / material things / bitterness / lust / envy / Jesus If Jesus is not the Master of your life, you need to pray now and purpose to surrender to Him every part of your life. In prayer, ask Jesus to give you a good, obedient and sincere heart that will receive and continue in God’s Word.

What does it mean to follow Jesus Christ? Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #14 by Nolan McFadden

“And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Matthew 4:19 “And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it: but whosoever will lose his life for my sake, the same shall save it.” Luke 9:23-24 What does it mean to follow Jesus Christ according to the New Testament? How can you follow the Savior here on earth while He is in Heaven? What did Jesus mean when He said “let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily,…”? These are important questions for us to understand. According to the New Testament Scriptures, five things are needed to truly follow Jesus Christ: I. First, you must be born again of God’s Spirit (John 1:12-13; 3:3-7). A. Being born again is the entryway into God’s kingdom. It is the first step in truly following Jesus Christ according to the New Testament. “Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be ______________ again, he cannot __________ the kingdom of God.” John 3:3 B. Tragically, many in our time are trying to follow Jesus according to their own rules in place of following Jesus Christ according to the New Testament Scriptures. However, our Lord Jesus said in John 14:15, “If ye ______________ me, _______________ my commandments.” It is the command of our Savior that you repent and believe the gospel (Mark 1:15, Matthew 4:17). C. “Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might ______________ the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, ____________ is the work of ___________, that ye __________________ on him whom he hath sent.” John 6:28-29 D. What is the work of God according to John 6:29? ___________________________ E. Have you been born again by repenting and personally receiving Jesus Christ in your heart as Savior and Lord? Yes / No / Not Sure II. Give your life to Jesus Christ (Matthew 6:24, Romans 12:1, I Corinthians 6:20). A. The moment that you get saved, your body, mind and spirit become the property of Jesus Christ (I Corinthians 6:19-20). Yet, you have the responsibility of choosing to yield these to Him moment by moment, day by day (Romans 6:13, I Corinthians 6:20). B. “What? know ye not that your _______________ is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are your life not your ___________? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your _______________, and in your ________________,which are _____________.” I Corinthians 6:19-20 C. You must allow Jesus Christ to be the Master-Lord of your life (Matthew 23:8, John 13:12-15). This means surrendering every part of your life to His Lordship. This includes friends, music, education, money, possessions, time, clothing, thoughts, plans

10 for the future, reputation and attitude. Have you surrendered these to God in prayer? Yes / No If not, would you like to pause in prayer to do this now? Yes / No O

In prayer, I chose to surrender every part of my life to my Lord Jesus.

signature: ___________________________________________ date: ____________ D. To follow through with this decision, you must purpose to make each part of your life pleasing to God (Romans 12:1-2, I Corinthians 6:20; 10:31, I John 3:22). This usually requires some sincere evaluation and changes. Ask yourself, is (or are) my _____________________________________________________________________ Fill in the blank with each of these one at a time: (friends, music, clothing, education, possessions, money, time, work , thoughts, attitudes, reputation and plans for the future) honoring to God, causing me to walk in the counsels of God’s Word or are they contrary to God’s Word and conforming me to the ways and philosophies of the ungodly? Which changes do you believe that God wants for your life? List them: ________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ E. According to Luke 6:46 and I John 2:3-4, can a person truly know and follow Jesus Christ if he or she does not want to obey the commands of Jesus Christ? Yes / No F. What is God’s command to believers in Hebrews 10:25? _____________________ _____________________________________________________________________ G. Which four things are Christians instructed to do according to Romans 12:1-2? 1. “P______________________ your bodies a living sacrifice, holy , acceptable unto God,” 2. “be not c_________________________ to this world:” 3. “be ye t___________________________ by the renewing of your m______________,” 4. “that ye may p____________________ what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, w____________ of God.” III. Die to sin and self each day (Matthew 16:24-26, Luke 9:23-24, Romans 6:11, I Corinthians 15:31, Galatians 2:20, Colossians 3:1-3). A. In Luke 9:23 Jesus set forth two necessary commitments to follow Him. They are “let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily.” Denying self is the opposite of selfism and selfishness. To deny self refers to choosing to not allow “self” to be the master of your life. Rather, you must allow Jesus Christ to direct your life instead of self and sin (Romans 6:11, I Corinthians 6:19-20). In addition, the Roman cross was a symbol of death and reproach at the time Jesus was speaking in Luke 9:23. Thus, to “take up his cross daily” means to die to sin and self each day and be willing to daily bear any reproach of identifying yourself as a follower of Jesus Christ. B. According to Colossians 3:2, on what are we to set our affections? _____________ _____________________________________________________________________ C. What is the fear of the Lord according to Proverbs 8:13? _____________________ D. List three things that are not of God according to I John 2:16. _________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________

IV. Follow Jesus Christ and His teachings in your daily living (Luke 6:46, John 13:15, I John 2:6). A. In each daily encounter of life, ask yourself, “What would Jesus do in this situation? Think of a passage of Scripture that applies. Then, imitate the example of the Lord Jesus. B. What is the command of Jesus Christ in Luke 6:31? _________________________ C. What are some ways that you could apply Luke 6:31 in your daily life? __________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ D. “He that saith he ____________________ in him ought himself also _______ to ______________, even _______ he ___________________.” I John 2:6 V. Bring souls to salvation in Jesus Christ (Matthew 4:19; 28:18-20, Luke 19:10, Mark 16:15). A. In Matthew 4:19 Jesus said, “…F____________________ me, and I will make you fishers of m___________.” A fisher of men is one who is actively engaged in leading souls to salvation in Christ Jesus (John 1:41-42; 4:28-30, Acts 14:21-22; 8:4, 28-39). If you are following Jesus Christ, you will have the joy of leading souls to Him. B. To what are the followers of Jesus Christ likened in Matthew 5:13? _____________ C. To what are Christ’s followers likened in Matthew 5:14? ______________________ D. What are we to proclaim to every creature according to Mark 16:15? ____________ E. According to I Timothy 2:4, what is God’s desire? ___________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ Are you following Jesus Christ according to the New Testament Scriptures? Yes / No In prayer, have you surrendered your life to the Lord Jesus? Yes / No Have you obeyed the Lord in baptism by immersion after your salvation decision? Yes / No Are you faithfully attending a New Testament, Bible-believing, Bible-practicing church? Yes / No Does one exist in your area? Yes / No If not, you need to prayerfully help start a new fundamental, Bible-believing, Bible-practicing church in your area. What is your decision for the Lord today? Seek Ye First the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #15 by Nolan McFadden

“But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” Matthew 6:33 Seeking first the kingdom of God and His righteousness requires establishing biblical priorities in your life. God created us to function within a God-ordained order of priorities (Psalm 50:23, Matthew 6:33, Ephesians 5:22-33, Colossians1:18, Titus 2:4-5). God’s order of priorities is discovered in the Bible (Matthew 4:4). Living outside a God-ordained order of priorities creates miserable conditions (Proverbs 1:23-33, Psalm 9:17). Tragically, having a wrong set of priorities has caused unnecessary spiritual, emotional, marriage and family problems for many. Let us take a look at common orders of priority as they so often develop in our lives. According to the Bible, which order of life priorities correctly fits God’s design? A. Family first, friends second, work or education third, recreation fourth, Jesus Christ and obeying His Word fifth. B. Jesus Christ and obeying His Word first, family second, friends third, work or education fourth, recreation fifth. C. Work or education first, family second, Jesus Christ and obeying His Word third, friends fourth, recreation fifth. D. Work or education first, recreation second, family third, friends fourth, Jesus Christ and obeying His Word fifth. According to the Scriptures, the correct answer is B. What is your order of priorities? As a Christian, you must purpose to establish biblical priorities for your life. However, before you are able to establish a biblical order of priorities, you must first decide who or what is going to be the Lord-Master of your life (Matthew 6:24). Since God’s will for our lives is found in God’s Word-the Bible, let us look at what God’s Word teaches about priorities. I. Jesus Christ and obeying His Word must take first place in your life (Matthew 6:33; 10:37, Luke 10:39, Revelation 2:4-5). A. An excellent example of establishing the right priorities is found in Luke 10:39-42. Mary made her first priority spending time with Jesus Christ and listening to His Word (Luke 10:39, 42). Jesus → Jesus Christ commended Mary’s decision as, “the good part” in Luke 10:42. Why? Mary’s life priorities were righteous from God’s perspective. B. However, Luke 10:39-42 also reveals that Martha had the wrong priorities in her life from God’s perspective. Martha’s work was more important to her than spending time with Jesus Christ and His Word. Notice Martha’s comments in Luke 10:40-41. Martha’s comments demonstrated her spiritual problems. She had wrong priorities. Her heart was not right with God. Martha had not yet submitted to Jesus as the LordMaster of her life. Notice that Martha even dishonored the Lord Jesus by ordering Him to make Mary help her in Luke 10:40. Jesus gently rebuked Martha for the wrong

13 preoccupations of her heart in Luke 10:41-42. Jesus Christ directed Martha to the correct priority in Luke 10:42. C. What was Mary’s priority in Luke 10:39? _______________________________ D. What was most important to Martha as evidenced in Luke 10:40? ___________ E. According to Luke 10:42, was Mary’s priority a choice? Yes / No F. Application of Luke 10:39-42: Spending time each day with Jesus in prayer and Bible-reading must be made the priority of the day. G. A personal evaluation: Circle which is most important to you. Jesus Christ and obeying His Word / education / work / pleasing family and friends / recreation / money / yourself II. Putting family, friends, work, education, money, recreation or yourself before Jesus Christ and obeying His Word in your order of priorities is disobedience to God (Matthew 4:10; 6:24-33; 10:37-38; 16:23-26; 18:20, Luke 6:46-47; 8:21, Colossians 3:1-2).

A. If you choose to honor and serve Jesus Christ in your life, the Lord Jesus will honor you (John 12:26). B. If you choose to be the Lord-Master of your life in place of Jesus, you will reap the consequences of your decision (Proverbs 1:31; 14:12-14, Galatians 6:6-7). C. “He that _________________ father or mother _____________ than me is not worthy of _______: and he that __________________ son or daughter ____________ than me is _________ worthy of me.” Matthew 10:37 D. According to Jesus, who is to take first place in our lives as indicated in Matthew 10:37? ____________________________________________________________ III. Putting anything before the Lord Jesus and obeying His Word, makes it an idol in your heart (Matthew 4:10, John 14:15, I John 5:21, Revelation 2:4). A. According to the Scriptures, God hates the sin of idolatry (I Samuel 2:29, Ezekiel 14:6-8, Ephesians 5:5, Colossians 3:5-6, I Corinthians 10:13-14). B. Today, many people have made the priority of their lives making money. Having money is not a sin. However, if having money becomes the first priority in your life, you have become a servant to material gain. When one of these: your money, job, education, family, recreation (sports, hunting, camping), come before God, it becomes your god. You will always spend time seeking, defending and worshipping your “god” or the true and living God. C. What must we not serve as recorded in Matthew 6:24? ______________________ D. According to Ephesians 5:5, the covetous man is “an i_____________________” and has no “i_________________________ in the kingdom of Christ and of God.” E. “Wherefore kick ye at my sacrifice and at mine offering, which I have _______________________ in my habitation; and ________________________ thy

14 sons ________________ me, to make yourselves ____________ with the chiefest of all the offerings of Israel my people?” I Samuel 2:29 F. What did Eli honor above God as revealed in I Samuel 2:29? _________________ G. According to I Samuel 2:29, what two things did Eli do that brought God’s judgement? ___________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ H. As recorded in I Timothy 6:9, list the consequences of desiring to be rich (materialism). __________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ I. What is the root of all evil as revealed in I Timothy 6:10? ______________________ J. From God’s perspective, great gain is “g_______________________ with c___________________________” (I Timothy 6:6). IV. The right testimony before your family, friends or employer is to make Jesus Christ and obeying His Word the first priority in your life (Matthew 6:33; 10:38, Luke 10:39-42, Revelation 2:4). A. The biblical order of priorities is Jesus Christ and obeying His Word first, your spouse second, your children third, relatives and friends fourth, work or education fifth, and recreation sixth (Matthew 6:33; 10:37-38, Luke 10:39-42, Ephesians 5:22-33, Titus 2:4-5). Above all else, your supreme allegiance must be to Jesus Christ and obeying His Word (Matthew 10:37, Revelation 2:4-5). B. Having a biblical order of priorities in no way diminishes your Christian responsibility to do quality work for your employer. Rather, the quality of your work should be an excellent testimony for Jesus Christ (Colossians 3:22-24). Colossians 3:23 exhorts, “And whatsoever ye d______, do it h__________________, as to the L____________, and not unto m___________.” C. As a Christian, there will be times when your commitment to living according to biblical priorities will be tested. For example, what will you do if family or friends want you to do something during the time of church services? What is God’s command in Hebrews 10:25? _______________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ The best testimony for Jesus Christ in this situation is to provide three better alternatives: 1. Invite them to go with you to church services. 2. If they will not go to church with you, tell them you would be glad to visit with them after church services. 3. If they refuse both previous alternatives, tell them you would like to reschedule the visit for a different time. Your response in this situation is an opportunity for you to provide a clear witness to others. Explain that obeying Jesus Christ and spending time in His Word is the first priority in your life. Otherwise, your testimony to them is that they are more important to you than obeying Jesus Christ and spending time in His Word. D. The central issue regarding your order of priorities is clear: who or what is going to be the Lord-Master of your life? Choose and circle one. Jesus Christ / pleasing family / pleasing friends / work / education / money / recreation / pleasing self.

15 E. As many preachers point out, “for a Christian, there are only two choices on the shelf, pleasing God or pleasing self.” For whom are you going to live? God / self

When Ye Pray Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #16 by Nolan McFadden

“And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. And he said unto them, When ye pray, say, Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth. Give us day by day our daily bread. And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.” Luke 11:1-4. Prayer is, without a doubt, the most important activity in life. Prayer has often changed families, circumstances and the course of history. When we begin to understand the awesome power of prayer, we will make it a priority in our lives. What does the Bible teach us about prayer?

Yes! I. Does God answer prayer? A. Yes!!! There are many examples of God answering prayer. Consider experiences of answered prayers in the Scriptures. A daily devotion is a very special time set aside each day to talk to God in prayer and let Him speak with you through His Word-the Bible. It cannot be overemphasized that you need daily readings from the Holy Scriptures in order to grow spiritually (I Peter 2:2). This is where you will learn the habit of feeding yourself spiritually from the Bible (Acts 17:11). Your daily devotion could include singing praises to God. As names and needs increase, divide the list into smaller portions for each day. For example, pray for one portion of the list on Monday, the next portion on Tuesday and so forth. I. Record your answers to prayers next to the request. Using a notebook is a good idea. You will want to thank and praise the Lord as you record answers to prayers. Remember to thank and praise the Lord for what He shows you from His Word daily.

20 Also, remember God is not a puppet whom you manipulate with your petitions. God always answers prayers according to His marvelous will (Ephesians 1:11). Let Your Light So Shine Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #17 by Nolan McFadden

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 Why did our Lord Jesus give the command found in Matthew 5:16? According to the Bible, which answer is correct? A. For Christians to have a means of impressing others B. For Christians to build their self-images C. To glorify our Heavenly Father The correct answer is C. Jesus Christ is the Light of the world (John 1:7-12; 8:12; 9:5). When you invite Jesus Christ to come live in your heart, His light indwells you (John 8:12, Ephesians 5:8, I Thessalonians 5:5). You become a source of light to others as you allow the Lord Jesus to direct you in good works. Jesus Christ is reflected through your good works (Matthew 5:16). Let us consider six important principles from the Bible about good works. I. Good works are the result of salvation, not the means to salvation (Romans 10:14, Galatians 2:16, Ephesians 2:8-10, Philippians 3:9, Titus 3:5-7). A. How are you saved according to Ephesians 2:8-9? __________________________________________ B. The apostle Paul was praying for the salvation of salvation good the Jewish people (Israel) as mentioned in Romans 10:1. works What were three errors found in Romans 10:3 that prevented many Jews from getting saved? List them. ___________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ C. True faith that saves is evidenced by good works. How is a faith that does not result in good works described in James 2:17? ________________________________ II. What is the correct purpose of good works? A. “Let your light so _______________ before men, that they may see your _______________ _______________, and _________________ your Father which is in heaven.” Matthew 5:16 B. According to Matthew 5:16, what must be the purpose of your good works? ___________________________________________________ III. The greatest of all good works is to share God’s Word with others (Romans 10:14-17). A. There is a variety of good works that you can do. However, truly helping others involves recognizing that their greatest need is spiritual. From the perspective of God’s Word, the most important need of people is to be saved and discipled in God’s Word (Matthew 16:26; 28:19-20, Mark 8:36-37; 16:15, Romans 10:14-17). We must focus on sharing the Word (Romans 10:17). Therefore, good works of eternal value

22 must be the priority (Matthew 28:19-20, Mark 16:15, Romans 10:17). B. “For what is a man _____________________, if he shall gain the whole _______________ and lose his own _______________? or what shall a man give in exchange for his _______________?” Matthew 16:26. C. According to Romans 10:17, what is the result of hearing God’s Word? __________ IV. Be zealous of your good works for Jesus Christ (Titus 2:14). A. “Who _____________ himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto __________________ a peculiar people, ____________________ of good works.” Titus 2:14. B. In Titus 2:14 the word zealous was translated from the New Testament Greek word ζηλωτην. It means to be sincerely enthusiastic. C. Are you sincerely enthusiastic about your works for Jesus Christ? Yes / No D. Are you doing any good works for Jesus Christ? Yes / No E. Do you desire to do good works for Jesus Christ? Yes / No V. Good works for Jesus Christ should be the regular practice for true Christians (Galatians 6:9-10, Ephesians 2:10, Titus 3:8). A. According to Ephesians 2:10, “For we are his workmanship, __________________ in Christ Jesus unto _______________ ________________, which God hath before ordained that we should _______________ in them.” B. What are believers instructed to do in Titus 3:8? ______________________________________________ C. Can you think of some good works that you can do in order to help in God’s work? List some: ____________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ VI. Your good works for Jesus Christ will follow you into eternity (Revelation 14:13). A. Those who are saved will be rewarded for their good works in Heaven if they were truly done for Jesus Christ (Matthew 6:19-21, II Corinthians 5:10, Philippians 4:17, Colossians 3:23-24, Revelation 14:13). B. Someone once said, “You only have one life. It will soon be past. Only what you do for Jesus Christ will last.” What are you doing for the Lord Jesus Christ? C. “And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, _____________________ are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may ______________ from their ___________________ and their ________________ do follow them.” Revelation 14:13.

“Give and it shall be given unto you.” Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #18 by Nolan McFadden

“Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:38. Giving is an important part of the Christian life. It is based on the nature of God. John 3:16 records, “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” What does the Bible teach us about giving? I. The motive of giving should be love (John 3:16, I Corinthians 13:3, II Corinthians 8:8, Ephesians 5:25, I John 3:16-18). A. According to John 3:16, what did God give in order that we might have everlasting life? _________________________________________________________________ B. How are believers to love as recorded in I John 3:18? _______________________ II. What can you give? A. time-Use your time for the Lord (I Peter 4:2). B. trade-Use your trade to help in God’s work (Acts 18:3)-computer operator, mechanic, builder, teacher, medical work, janitor, printer, and others. C. treasure-Use your money and goods to help fund God’s work (Luke 8:3). D. spiritual gift-Use your spiritual gift to help others (Ephesians 4:7-12). III. Giving is a blessing (Acts 20:35, Ephesians 5:25). A. Our Lord Jesus declared, “It is more ______________________ to _____________ than to _________________________.” Acts 20:35 B. According to II Corinthians 9:8, what is God able to do for believers who give bountifully? ____________________________________ C. In Ephesians 4:28, labor results in having resources. Having resources provides the opportunity, “to g______________ to him that n___________________.” IV. Give as God has prospered you (I Corinthians 16:2, II Corinthians 8:12). A. God does not expect you to give what you do not have (II Corinthians 8:12). First, it is God’s will for you to provide for the needs of your family (I Timothy 5:8). God does not expect you to neglect your family in order to give to the needs of others. B. If God has prospered you with material gain, it is certain that God expects you to use a portion of it for His work and the needs of others (II Corinthians 9:8, I Timothy 6:17-18, I John 3:16-18). C. Under the Old Testament law, the Hebrews were required to give a tithe (10% of their goods) to the Lord’s work (Leviticus 27:30-34, Deuteronomy 14:22-23, II Chronicles 31:4-11). Also, before the Mosaic covenant was given, Abraham gave tithes to Melchizedek (Genesis 14:18-20). As New Testament believers, living during the age of grace, we should be willing to give more than 10% to God’s work. In fact, there are examples in the New Testament where believers sacrificially gave far beyond 10% to the Lord’s work and to others in need. God commended this in Luke 19:8-9 and II Corinthians 8:1-5.

24 D. Praise the Lord for believers who sacrificially give to the Lord’s work in order to make up for the lack of giving of irresponsible believers. E. According to the last part of Philippians 2:30, why did Epaphroditus nearly work himself to death? _______________________________________________________ F. Is the last part of Philippians 2:30 a reproach to the believers at Philippi? Yes / No V. Give to the Lord’s work (Luke 8:3, I Corinthians 9:7-14, Philippians 2:30; 4:15-19). A. First, give offerings to your local, New Testament church. Your church cannot function without the faithful giving of its members (I Corinthians 9:7-14, I Timothy 5:17-18). B. In I Corinthians 9:14, the apostle Paul points out that, “they which p_________________ the gospel should also l_____________ of the gospel,” (receive sustenance for their ministries from God’s people). C. In addition, give offerings to biblical missionaries, evangelists and other biblical ministries as the Lord provides(Philippians 2:30; 4:15-19). D. The apostle Paul was both an apostle and a missionary. According to Philippians 4:16, for what were the believers at Philippi commended? ________________________________________________________ E. “Not because I desire a ___________________: but I desire __________________ that may abound to your __________________.” Philippians 4:17 VI. Give to believers in need (Acts 2:44-46; 4:32-35, Romans 15:25-28, I Corinthians 16:1-3, II Corinthians 9:1-13, Philippians 4:17). A. According to I Corinthians 16:3, where was “the collection for the saints” mentioned in I Corinthians 16:1-2 to be brought? J_________________________ B. For whom was the contribution (offering) from the believers of Macedonia and Achaia as recorded in Romans 15:26? “for the p__________________ saints which are at J________________________.” VII. The more you give, the more you will receive (Luke 6:38, II Corinthians 9:6, Galatians 6:6-7). A. Your motive in giving should not be in order to receive. Rather, you receive from God in order to give. Thus, you become a channel of blessing to others. B. Jesus declared, “______________, and it shall be given unto _________; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men ______________ into your bosom. For with the _______________ measure that you _______________ withal it shall be ______________________ to you _______________.” Luke 6:38 Which is your decision for the Lord Jesus? Choose and mark one of the circles. O By faith, I choose to believe God’s promise in Luke 6:38. I purpose to give faithfully to the Lord’s work and to the needs of believers as God prospers me. Signature: __________________________________________ Date: ________________ O I choose not to believe God’s promise in Luke 6.38. I purpose to serve myself and ignore the needs of others.

What does it mean to love your neighbor? Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #20 by Nolan McFadden

Who is your neighbor? How can you express Christ’s love to your neighbor? Let us consider seven important aspects of loving your neighbor. I. What is love? A. Unsaved people often base love on feelings, lust or sex. This is a false definition of the word love. True love is not a temporary state or condition. B. In the Bible, love is based on the attribute of God (I John 4:7-8). Love defined: Love is caring for someone as God cares for you. It is expressed in righteous actions and righteous attitudes. Therefore, loving your neighbor is a choice. C. For example, Jesus declared in John 3:16, “For God so ________________ the world, that he _______________ his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not ________________, but _____________ everlasting life.” D. How did God express His love toward us according to John 3:16? ______________ _____________________________________________________________________ E. In reality, you cannot understand true love nor demonstrate true love without true salvation (I John 4:7-11). For true love is the fruit of the indwelling Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22). II. Who is your neighbor? A. In Matthew 22:39, the word neighbor is translated from the Koine Greek word πλησιον. It does not refer only to the people who live next to your home. The word neighbor means all who live near you, your community. In fact, in Luke 10:29-37 the Lord Jesus seems to broaden the definition of the term neighbor to refer to whoever is in need of your help. B. Who was regarded as truly loving his neighbor in Luke 10:33? _________________ Why? (See Luke 10:37) Explain. ___________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ III. Treat others the way you would want to be treated. A. “And _______ ye would that men should do to you, _______ ye also to them ____________________.” Luke 6:31. B. Personal Evaluation: Circle yes or no honestly. Ask yourself: 1. Am I treating my spouse the way I want to be treated? Yes / No 2. Am I treating my parents the way I want to be treated? Yes / No 3. Am I treating my children the way I want to be treated? What does it mean to love your enemies? Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #21 by Nolan McFadden

“But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;” Matthew 5:44 How is it possible to love your enemies? Love is a choice. Yet, loving an enemy runs against human nature. However, it is certain that Jesus Christ would never command you to do that which you are not able to do by His grace. Let us consider four ways to express love toward enemies. I. Bless your enemy when he or she curses you (Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:27-28, Romans 12:14). A. When your enemy falsely accuses you or curses you, say, “Bless you,” or “May God bless you.” Why? It demonstrates that you are a new creature in Jesus Christ (II Corinthians 5:17). B. What was the apostle Paul’s response to those who reviled him as recorded in I Corinthians 4:12? ___________________ x*!#! __________________________________________________ C. “Out of the ______________ mouth proceedeth ______________________ and ____________________. My brethren, these things ought __________ so to be.” James 3:10. D. According to James 3:10, what should not be happening in the life of a Christian? _____________________________________________________________________ II. Do good to your enemy (Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:27-28). A. Why? This is how God treats His enemies. See Matthew 5:45. Ask God for opportunities to do good works toward those who oppose you (Galatians 6:9-10, Romans 12:17-21). By doing this, you will be demonstrating Christ’s love (Romans 5:8, II Corinthians 4:5-11). B. Roman soldiers were regarded as brutal enemies of the Jewish people in the First Century. By law, Roman soldiers were allowed to order the help of a civilian to carry an object (Matthew 27:32). In Matthew 5:41, Jesus commanded His followers to go an extra mile to help if compelled to go one mile. Why? 1. It is a powerful testimony of God’s love. 2. It is difficult to hate the person whom you choose to help with a good work. C. “Therefore if thine enemy hunger, _____________ him; if he thirst, give him _______________: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Be not overcome of ____________, but ____________________ evil with ______________.” Romans 12:20-21. D. What are two practical ways to do good to your enemy as mentioned in Romans 12:20? 1. ________________________________________________________________ 2. ________________________________________________________________ E. According to Romans 12:21, how are you to overcome evil? __________________

List some ways that you can overcome evil with good. _______________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ _____________________________________________________________________ III. Pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44, Luke 6:27-28). A. Pray for the salvation of your enemies. Pray that the Holy Spirit would convict them of their sins and convince them of their need of salvation through faith in Jesus Christ (John 16:8). Pray that they might be willing to receive the gift of repentance and eternal life (Acts 11:18, Romans 6:23). B. Who persecuted Christians according to Acts 8:3? __________________________ C. Did he later receive God’s gift of salvation? See Acts 9:1-22. Yes / No D. In Luke 23:34 __________________ prayed for those who had crucified Him. IV. Share the message of salvation with your enemy. A. Human enemies have souls also. They need to be saved (I Timothy 2:4-6, II Peter 3:9). B. We must not forget that all of us were also enemies of God until we received God’s gift of salvation (Romans 5:10, Colossians 1:1-23). C. “For God so ________________ the world, that he _______________ his only begotten Son, that _______________________ believeth in him should not ________________, but _____________ everlasting life.” John 3:16. D. Would the word whosoever in John 3:16 include enemies? Yes / No E. “The Lord is not slack concerning his __________________, as some men count slackness; but is long-suffering to us-ward, not willing that ___________ should perish, but that __________ should come to _________________________.” II Peter 3:9 F. Would the word any in II Peter 3:9 include enemies? Yes / No What is your decision for Jesus Christ? Check one. O I choose to regard my enemies as valuable souls needing the gift of salvation. By God’s grace, I plan to begin today practicing these four principles from God’s Word. Signature: _________________________________________ Date: _________________ O

Resolving Conflicts According to the Teachings of Jesus Christ Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #22 by Nolan McFadden

“Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican.” Matthew 18:15-17. God never promised you that following Jesus Christ would be a path free of disappointments, trials, persecution and attacks of Satan (Philippians 1:29, I Thessalonians 2:18). It is certain that as you serve the Lord Jesus you are engaging in a spiritual warfare against the forces of the devil (Ephesians 6:10-18). A method Satan often uses to discourage Christians is a conflict between believers (Acts 6:1; 15:36-40). Therefore, it is essential that you understand how to resolve conflicts according to the teachings of your Lord Jesus. I. What does a Christian do when he or she is wronged by another believer? A. Pray first (I Thessalonians 5:17). Then, go and talk to the other person alone (Matthew 18:15). Notice that Matthew 18:15 does not instruct you to inform everyone within your sphere of influence about the offense. You must have a right spirit when you talk to the other person (without anger, arrogance or shouting). See Proverbs 13:10; 15:1;18:6 and James 1:19-20. Explain the offense and ask the person to stop it. The goal is to reconcile the relationship and obey Hebrews 12:14. Most people will respond favorably to this approach. B. Usually, a problem is resolved with the first step. However, if the other person refuses to repent after the first step, the second step is found in Matthew 18:16. The second step should be done only when it is truly necessary (not in order to get others to side with you or to destroy the other person-John 10:10). C. The last resort should be the church discipline mentioned in Matthew 18:17. D. “But if ye _____________ and __________________ one another, take heed that ye be not ______________________ one of another.” Galatians 5:15 E. According to Hebrews 12:14, what must Christians pursue? __________ ____________________________________________________________ II. What is the result if a Christian does not obey Matthew 18:15? A. A conflict is never truly resolved unless you obey the counsel And then of God’s Word. What happens? The sins of gossip, slander she said,.. and bitterness emerge (Philippians 2:14, Hebrews 12:14-15). B. Often others also take up an offense, take sides and are contaminated with bitterness.

Well! I think I’ll tell…

33 C. “Looking diligently lest any root of _______________________ springing up __________________ you, and thereby many be ______________________;” Hebrews 12:15. D. According to Hebrews 12:15, how does a root of bitterness effect the lives of others? _________ _______________________________________ _______________________________________

III. Learning to live an obedient and victorious Christian life involves choosing to forgive those who have sinned against you (Matthew 6:14-15, Ephesians 4:29-32, Colossians 3:13). A. Once you have obeyed the Scriptures regarding a conflict, put it behind you and go on with your Christian life (Philippians 3:13-14). Their response is not your responsibility. B. Do not allow a past conflict to destroy you (John 10:10). Replaying an old hurt will only make you miserable. C. According to Philippians 3:13, it was the apostle Paul’s practice to forget, “those t______________ which are b__________________,…” What is your decision for the Lord Jesus? Check one. O By God’s grace, I choose to practice the teachings of Jesus Christ about conflicts in my life. I purpose to obey Matthew 18:15 when I am wronged by another believer. Signature: _____________________________________________ date: _____________ O I choose to use the methods of psychology, experience and human reasoning in order to address conflicts.

I Choose to Forgive Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #23 by Nolan McFadden

Text: Matthew 18:21-35 “Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellow servant, even as I had pity on thee?” Matthew 18:33. It is the command of our Savior to forgive others (Mark 11:25, Luke 6:37). Yet, what does it mean to forgive? How are we to practice this command? Let’s consider what the Bible teaches about forgiveness. I. What is forgiveness? A. In Matthew chapter 18, the word forgive is translated from the Koine Greek word αφιηυι. It means to cancel, send away or disregard the debt that another owes you. B. God is the model of how to forgive. In the Bible, you learn that each of us has a sin debt that you are unable to pay (Romans 3:23; 5:12; 6:23). Jesus was without sin (Hebrews 4:15, I Peter 2:22). Jesus chose to go to the cross to die as our substitute, in order to pay in full your sin debt to God (II Corinthians 5:21, I Peter 2:24, 3:18). Jesus rose from the dead three days later (I Corinthians 15:3-4). Because Jesus purchased your salvation on the cross, you are able to receive it as a free gift from God (Romans 3:22-28; 4:23-25; 5:1-19; 6:23; 10:9-13, Galatians 2-3). The moment that you repent and receive God’s gift of salvation, God cancels your sin debt in full (Romans 3:24-26; 4:25; 5:8-11, Colossians 2:13, I John 1:7-9, 2:2). You do not deserve to be forgiven. Yet, our heavenly Father sent His Son to become the atoning sacrifice for your sins. Why? God loves you and desires that you receive His abundant mercy and forgiveness (John 3:16-17, Romans 5:8). Therefore, looking to God as the model, forgiveness is a choice and an act of love. C. Consider the example of our Savior. As Jesus was hanging on the cross in extreme pain and agony, He asked God the Father to forgive those who had crucified Him (See Luke 23:34). This act of mercy was truly beyond human understanding (Ephesians 3:19). D. Forgiveness must be from your heart (Matthew 18:35). When you choose to forgive from your heart, you will not continue to hold resentment toward the person who has wronged you. E. Therefore, biblical forgiveness is manifested in two ways: 1. Choose not to repay another for the wrong that he or she has done against you. 2. Choose not to hold resentment against a person who has wronged you. F. “Then said Jesus, Father, ________________ them; for they _______________ not what they _______. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.” Luke 23:34. II. Why should you forgive others? A. To forgive those who have wronged you is the command of your Savior (Mark 11:25, Luke 6:37). If you truly love the Lord Jesus, you will keep this command (John 14.15).

35 B. Do you want God to forgive your sins? Yes / No You cannot receive forgiveness of your sins from God if you refuse to forgive others who have sinned against you (Matthew 6:14-15, Mark 11:25-26). C. Do you have resentment toward someone? Yes / No Are you choosing not to forgive for a wrong that has been done against you? Yes / No If your answer is yes to either one of these questions, you must repent of your bitterness and unforgiving spirit (Proverbs 28:13, II Timothy 2:19). D. Ask God to help you. As a Christian, God has forgiven you a much larger sin debt than any wrong that another has done against you (Ephesians 4:32-5:1). Those who have need of forgiveness must also forgive (Matthew 18:32-33). E. If you have sinned against someone, you need to go and ask for forgiveness from that person according to Matthew 18:21-23. Refusing to Jesus do this will hinder your relationship with God (Psalm 66:18, Isaiah 59:1-2). Christ F. “And be ye ______________ one to another, tenderhearted, __________________ one another, even _______ God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven ___________.” Ephesians 4:32. III. What are the blessings of forgiving others? A. Choosing to forgive will free you from enslavement to bitterness and resentment (John 8:34). B. If you choose to forgive, you will experience the healing effects of inner peace, love, joy, gentleness and kindness within your spirit (Genesis 50:15-22, Galatians 5:16-26). C. Choosing to forgive allows God’s character to be developed in you. Notice the words “even as” in Ephesians 4:32. D. Choosing to forgive brings spiritual growth for a Christian because you are yielding to your new nature in Christ Jesus (Colossians 3:8-13). E. Choosing to forgive conforms your ways to God’s ways (Ephesians 4:32-5:1, Psalm 119:5). F. Choosing to forgive often restores harmony in relationships. Many times refusal to forgive is the cause of broken relationships (Hebrews 12:15). G. Choosing to forgive demonstrates true Christian love toward the one who has wronged you (Ephesians 4:32-5:2, Colossians 3:13-14). H. Choosing to forgive is an action that pleases God (John 14:21). I. Choosing to forgive prevents others from being defiled with your bitterness and resentment (Hebrews 12:15, Matthew 5:16). Can you think of anyone whom you have not forgiven? Yes / No Can you think of anyone toward whom you still feel resentment? Yes / No

36 What is your decision for Jesus Christ? Mark the circle that is your decision. O I choose to continue to have unforgiveness and bitterness in my heart against (name) _________________________________________________________________. O I choose to forgive (name) _______________________________________________ for the wrong that he/she has done against me. Fear Not! Growing in the Faith Once Delivered to the Saints-Bible Study #24 by Nolan McFadden

“But even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not therefore: ye are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7. The Bible teaches us that in the last days perilous times shall come (II Timothy 3:1). We are warned that there will be a time of “falling away” (apostasy) among professing Christians before the second coming of the Lord Jesus (II Thessalonians 2:3). This will be accompanied by the rise of numerous false teachers who will deceive many with “signs and wonders” (Matthew 24:11, Mark 13:22, II Timothy 4:1-4, Revelation 13:13-14). In addition, prophecies in the Scriptures point to the establishing of an ecumenical global religion and a global government system which will serve the agenda of the antichrist in the last days (Daniel 7:23-24, Revelation 13:7; 17:18). Yet, in the midst of these troubled times, we are exhorted by our Lord Jesus to fear not. Let’s consider some reasons from the Bible why Christians should not be discouraged or fearful about the days ahead. I. You have a Heavenly Father who loves you and cares for your needs (Matthew 6:8-33; 10:28-31, Romans 8:28-39, II Corinthians 9:6-8). A. In our time, many fear enemies, war, loss of work, no food, illness and bad weather. Yet, God is fully in control of all events in the universe and is fulfilling His plan (Isaiah 46:9-10, Acts 17:26, Ephesians 1:11). B. E. What does God plan to do among the unsaved as revealed in Psalm 46:10? _____________________________________________________________________ F. Which two judgements will God send on the pagan nations and cities during the tribulation period as revealed in Revelation 16:18 and 16:21? 1. a great e___________________________________ 2. a great h___________________ out of h_____________________________ II. You have the eternal, great high priest-Jesus Christ interceding for you before God the Father (Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25, I John 2:1). A. This fact gives you confidence in prayer (Hebrews 4:14-16; 7:25). B. What is Jesus doing for believers as recorded in Hebrews 7:25? __________________________________________________________ C. “Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be ___________ with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never _____________ thee, nor _________________ thee.
