“We are now able to see which way the baby is facing and measure the amount of water in the womb - this helps us determine the type of delivery or if medication is required for a safe delivery. The new ultrasounds machines allow clinicians and the mother a chance to see the baby growing in the womb and provide us with medical information which helps us plan for delivery.” Said Dr Goh.

PRESIDENT’S REPORT CEO’S REPORT Stage two of our development has commenced, which will deliver to our members a new multi-outlet casual dining precinct complete with seating for over 850 people, a larger, improved kids play area and an Alfresco dining option. A new six level multi-storey carpark, for 780 cars, is also being constructed to provide much needed covered carparking spaces.

Dear Members We have recently concluded our 2017 financial results and have reached a further milestone in the Club’s history achieving a record profit before tax of $11.4M an increase from $9.7M in 2016. The club has continued to thrive financially on the back of strong revenues and controlled expenditure and this result has us well placed as we entrench ourselves in the Master Plan. Whilst we anticipate short-term disruption to trade in 2018 we continue to work hard on maintaining our strong financial performance whilst incurring the expenditure necessary to equip ourselves to provide outstanding service in our new expanded venue. I would like to remind all members that the AGM will be held in the Starlight Room on Sunday 27 May. We look forward to updating you on the current and future development plans for the Club and delivering the strong financial results in more detail. I am pleased to announce that after years of planning and approval the Wenty Leagues Club Master Plan is underway. In February, we opened the new synthetic covered bowling green, which has been well received by some very happy members.

Please keep an eye out for a Master Plan update in this journal. Applications for the 2017 ClubGRANTS scheme open in April, and we welcome proposals for funding from all local notfor-profit community groups, charities and organisations. Funded by local clubs and administered by Cumberland Council, the ClubGRANTS scheme is designed to assist and promote the local community priorities, namely community welfare and social services, community development, health services and employment assistance activities. In 2017, Wenty Leagues proudly funded several projects including more than $40,000 towards new ultrasound machines at Westmead Hospital. Director Trevor Simpson visited Westmead hospital to see the ultra-machines at work and just how important ClubGRANTs funding is to the community. You can read all about it in the community pages of this journal. On behalf of the Board, we wish all the mums a very Happy Mother’s Day and I look forward to seeing you all at the club. Ian McCann President

facility.

Dear Members

We hope our members and visitors can appreciate that careful efforts have been made to minimise disruption whilst we continue to provide better parking facilities. The main foyer has been transformed with new directional signage together with artist impressions. These artist impressions are a glimpse of what is to come - including a porte-cochere and grand entrance foyer.

It has been great to see the club vibrant and alive with activity this early in the year and to see members and guests supporting the club whilst we work hard towards delivering the Board’s Masterplan.

Moving on to what has been happening in the club this year we have already celebrated several events including Australia Day, Chinese New Year and St Patrick’s Day.

The club is currently trialing Wenty Cafe opening from 6am Monday – Friday, serving our newly created ‘Tradies Breakfast Menu’, see page 7 for further information.

A big thanks to everyone who joined the 2GB Continuous Call Team live broadcast from the Magpie Bar in March. The whole 2GB team agreed it was a fantastic outdoor broadcast, with a very lively and entertaining crowd.

The old Smith Street entrance and driveway have now closed, but the new entry through Mack Street is now open and provides wider access and a more visually appealing entrance to our club. The builders have begun demolition of the bowling green to make way for ‘Bigger, Better, Beautiful’ family dining. This area will include five (5) new outlets with a grill, woodfired pizza, dessert bar, noodle bar and main bar, plus there will be a larger kids play area, 580 dining seats and 205 alfresco seats, all for your enjoyment. This will be a very exciting and much anticipated addition to our club. The new all-weather, undercover bowling green has also been completed and it is great to see our bowlers enjoying this new

I am also pleased to report that our staff have again volunteered at Parramatta Mission serving a record number of over 200 clients at the recent Meals Plus lunch in February. The team also volunteered at the brand-new kitchen at the Ronald McDonald House in March and served families with seriously ill children. I am proud that Wenty Leagues has a real connection with our community and I thank those who participated. I would like to thank you all for your continued patronage and I look forward to seeing you at the club.

Construction is now well underway on the next stage of the Master Plan as the excitement builds during this important milestone for the Club. The new multi-storey carpark will slowly be rising out of the ground as Lipman, the builders for this project progress with construction. This carpark will provide approximately 780 new car spots and will eventually be joined to the new foyer via a covered walk way. For now, the expected completion date is late 2018. As our bowlers enjoy the finished new all-weather bowling green, our second group of builders, ADCO, have established onsite. They are in the process of removing bowling green #1 (that was closest to the club) in readiness for a new exciting addition to the Club. Below ground an extension to the warehouse, back of house areas and a central kitchen will be constructed. At ground level a new multi-outlet casual dining precinct will be constructed. This area will feature four new outlets with seating for over 850 people, a larger, improved Kids play, an Alfresco dining option and a mixed use function pavilion. Completion of this stage is due in March 2019.

Finally, the hoarding that has been erected near the main entrance to the club hides the construction of administration offices that will be relocated from the roof of the club. This area of roof top will be converted into a modern function centre that will provide much needed function and meeting space for our members looking to host social events and our corporate customers looking for to hold their meetings here at Wenty Leagues. All this work has come with some changes to how we do things and some unavoidable inconveniences to our members and their guests.  We thank you for your patience during this work and please be assured we are working tirelessly to ensure the disruption is kept to a minimum.  We remind members that the courtesy bus is available for your convenience and bookings can be made by contacting the club Reception. For regular updates to the work don’t forget to visit our website www.wentyleagues.com.au.

This building work has resulted in the Smith Street carpark and entrance being closed and we ask members to follow the directional signage to the new carpark and club entrance.

Hi Wenty Leagues Club members to the latest Club Journal report prepared for your information from the Mens Bowling Club.

Social Bowls

Undoubtedly the highlight of 2018 for the Mens Bowling Club so far has been the completion of the new all-weather undercover bowling green on Thursday 22 February 2018 the green was handed over to its members.

Our Bowls Coordinator Cameron Curtis in consultation with the Mens and Ladies Committees has instigated some changes to Social Bowls that will see more open events (men and women) to cater for both men and ladies that work fulltime.

Early comments received by most members report that: - the new ‘carpet’ type green, the concrete surrounds, the brick faced retaining walls and magnificent white canopy with mood lighting all combine to give an ambiance that makes playing bowls most exciting under these states of the art facilities.

This will see the introduction of nominated mixed sides on a Wednesday evening, as well as, single nominated names for Saturday social bowls.

Our Annual Club AGM was held on Sunday 18 February 2018 where it was seen that the 2017 Committee was returned with exception of Bowls Secretary Jeff Gallagher who did not seek re-election.

‘Til next Journal on behalf of the Wenty, Leagues Men’s Bowling Club.

So now is the time for any Wenty Club member who would like to consider taking up the game of Bowls with their fellow Club members so as to keep exercising while utilising the latest in Bowls facilities provided by your Club Board. SQUASH CLUB I would like to welcome all our members, both returning and new members to 2018. This year the structure of our Pennant night changes from 4 matches per night down to 3 matches per night. This is a huge change to the way Pennant has historically been played, but to attract more players to the game of squash, this was a decision that NSW Squash took to boost the already dwindling numbers to the game. After the success of our first Junior Development Program, we are looking to implement more programs throughout the year. Wenty Leagues Squash Club is now an affiliated “Active Kids Provider” under the NSW Government - Office of Sport scheme. For more information on this please visit, https://sport.nsw.gov.au/sectordevelopment/ activekids 2017 Spring Pennant 3 out of 13 teams made it to Grand Final Night. Players are not required to join the Snooker & Billiards Club to play in this competition. We have entered three teams in the Western Districts Billiards & Snooker Association’s inter-club competition, one in B Grade and two in C Grade. Wenty Leagues Snooker & Billiards Club will hold internal club competitions on the last Sunday of each month, starting with the Singles Handicap Snooker on 25th March and the Singles Handicap Billiards on 29th April 2018. We will also be holding events against other clubs and these will be held on the second Sunday of each month. Leagues Club of the Year award 2017. What a great honour, but it doesn’t stop there; we are also starting a new era of bowling at Wenty Leagues Bowling Club with the new undercover bowling green. This has just opened and everyone is thrilled and can’t wait to start playing on it. The Major Singles have been played and now we are just waiting for the final to be played.
