another
transformative year for our club, as we embark on a renovation to evolve your entertainment hub. With works well underway, we look forward to delivering a remarkable entertainment destination, while enhancing our member experience. Stay tuned for more details as we work towards our mid 2025 completion date.
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Looking back at 2023, I would like to thank our members for their generosity and support of Wenty Leagues’ community initiatives over the festive season. Once again, the membership rallied to support
Ian McCann
Our ‘Plate for a Mate’ initiative, was embraced by our patrons, with a total of 500 plates being generously donated. Through our longstanding partnership with Parramatta Mission, these 500 plates played a pivotal role in brightening the holiday season for the less fortunate members of our community. The impact of this initiative was felt across our local community, as the donated plates provided a hearty Christmas lunch to individuals and families who may have otherwise struggled during the festive season. The spirit of giving was truly alive as our community rallied together to share the warmth of the season with those in need. Carols on Ringrose grew to another level, attracting well over 3,000 people who came together to sing Carols and enjoy a spectacular firework display on Ringrose Oval. The entertainment line-up was outstanding with live performances and headlined by Todd McKenney, along with Dorothy and Friends for the Kids. This event raised a total of $12,500 which went towards supporting Youth Off the Streets initiatives to help at-risk youths in our community. In further community news, you can read all the fantastic work that Wenty has been doing in and around the local community on pages 6 to 9 of this magazine, along with
the announcement of our new community brand, Heart of Wenty. Applications for the 2024 ClubGRANTS scheme are now open, and we welcome and call upon proposals for funding from all local not-for-profit community groups, charities, and organisations. Funded by local clubs and administered by Cumberland Council, the ClubGRANTS scheme is designed to assist and promote local community priorities, namely community welfare and social services, community development, health services, and employment assistance activities. Easter is just around the corner, and there will be plenty of ways to celebrate the occasion here at Wenty. You can dine, play, and entertain throughout April and across the entire Easter long weekend. We look forward to the return of not one, but two huge raffles, loaded with even more prizes on offer at our Hoppity Hop Easter Raffles – all to be won in time for Easter. Notice and invitation to the 66th Annual General Meeting of the Club is extended to all members to be held on Sunday 26th May at 10am, here in the club. Remember to circle the date in your calendar. On behalf of the Board, I thank you all for your continued patronage and look forward to seeing you around the club in 2024.

WENTY LEAGUES I THE JOURNAL I FEB / MAR / APR 24
Wenty & The Community Community has always been a big part of Wenty Leagues, not only our wonderful community of members who visit us each day, but also our contributions and involvement in our local community, Wentworthville. Over the years we have been fortunate enough to be able to help a number of incredible charity organisations, many of which we have long-standing relationships with. In 2024 and beyond, our desire is to continue to be involved more in our community and to nurture our existing relationships, while also creating new ones. As much as we strive to be a home away from home for our members, we want to make a positive impact on the lives of those in our local community. With this in mind, Wenty Leagues is pleased to introduce our new community brand, Heart of Wenty.
This branding represents our continued commitment to our community, and our support of organisations and individuals to positively impact the lives of so many. Some areas we will strive to support through our community partnerships include:
•
Children - Sick and long-term injured children, those that are vulnerable through child poverty and domestic/family violence, initiatives that support children with special needs, schools within the 2145 postcode, including school fundraising and education programs to support learning.
•
Disabilities - Projects to promote inclusion and projects for support services for those living with a disability.
•
Elderly - Programs to increase their health and well-being, connecting elderly with their community, through activities.
•
Disadvantaged adults - Those affected by domestic and family violence, financial hardships, homelessness
We look forward to sharing more about Heart of Wenty and the initiatives we will be embarking on as 2024 goes on.

Let's Kosciusz-GO! One of the first initiatives of the Heart of Wenty brand is one that is close to our hearts. Rebecca Gauci is our passionate Community Engagement Coordinator who will be helping to bring Heart of Wenty to life. Through Rebecca’s experience in the Community space and her incredible knowledge of the ClubGrants program, there are plenty of exciting initiatives on the horizon. Over the past few years, Rebecca has encountered some challenges in her life, which she has bravely shared with her Wenty colleagues and is now sharing with our wider Wenty community. In March, the Marketing team, which Rebecca is a part of, are embarking on an 18km hike to the top on Mt Kosciuszko to raise money for the Brain Foundation. The team have been wanting to find a way to show their support to Rebecca and to highlight that they are there for her on her challenging journey and this hike represents an opportunity to push themselves out of their comfort zones to raise money and awareness for a worthy cause.
Rebecca’s Journey brought a sense of relief, indicating tumour stability. However, subsequent scans in June 2021 revealed significant growth, necessitating 28 days of radiation. Amid the second lockdown, my routine included early-morning radiation sessions, homeschooling my eldest, and grappling with the side effects of nausea, light-headedness, and fatigue.
After the birth of my second daughter in February 2020, I started experiencing some alarming symptoms: numbness on the left side of my face, dizziness, and balance issues. Attributing it to postpartum fatigue, I dismissed it initially. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, I consulted a local GP who dismissed my concerns as exhaustion. It wasn't until my daughter's six-month check-up in August that I raised the issue again with my regular GP. Concerned, she ordered an MRI, revealing a large Acoustic Neuroma, a benign brain tumor situated between the ear and the brain.
The radiation experience exposed me to the resilience of fellow patients but took a toll on my body. The subsequent MRI scans provided varying results, with moments of stability but also concerning growth. While the tumour’s impact on my balance, speech, and facial muscles persists, my medical team advises continuous monitoring.
The diagnosis was a life-altering moment, and I grappled with fears about surgery, potential complications, and the impact on my family. The surgery, initially estimated at nine hours, turned into a 21.5-hour ordeal as the tumour was more complex than anticipated, entwined around my brain stem. Post-surgery, I spent five challenging days in ICU, relearning basic functions like walking, talking, and eating. The experience, coupled with facial paralysis akin to Bell's Palsy, tested my mental resilience. Though I eventually transitioned to a regular ward, the recovery journey was far from over.
In the last year, scans have shown both growth and stability, bringing a mix of worry and uncertainty. The latest scan at the end of 2023 indicated stability, but the future remains uncertain. The neurosurgeon may recommend further surgery or radiation if the tumour continues to grow. Living with the persistent impact of the tumour on my daily life, I face uncertainty about future interventions. However, with continuous monitoring and the guidance of my dedicated medical team, I approach each day with a focus on the present and the strength to confront whatever lies ahead, one
Unexpectedly facing Christmas in the hospital, I pleaded for discharge to be with my family. Physically and mentally drained, the first weeks at home were a struggle. The post-operative scans in February 2021

The Marketing team will be completing their hike on March 2nd and will be working to raise funds in the lead up to the walk and will be sharing their journey on our social channels. If you would like to donate CLICK HERE

Sparkling Community Spirit Lights Up Ringrose: A Festive Extravaganza for a Cause!” The joyous tradition of Carols on Ringrose made a return to the community, and last year, Wenty Leagues delivered our grandest event yet! Featuring headline acts such as Dorothy the Dinosaur and her Wiggly friends, and celebrity entertainer Todd McKenney, alongside other fantastic performers, the night was a spectacular showcase of talent. Our lively MC, radio personality Anthony Maroon, ensured the crowd was engaged, and the festivities concluded with our renowned breathtaking firework display. The community response was overwhelming, with over 3,000 members joining the celebration at Ringrose Oval. Beyond the stellar entertainment, attendees were treated to a range of rides suitable for all ages and offerings from food trucks, catering to every palate. What made this evening even more magical was the incredible generosity of our community. Through gold coin donations at the entrance, sales of headbands, glowsticks, and candle lights, we proudly raised an impressive $12,500. These funds went directly to Youth off the Streets, where they will play a crucial role in supporting the Sydney engagement and support team, fostering strong connections with young people across Greater Western Sydney. Wenty Leagues thanks our vibrant community for their unwavering support and generosity, turning a festive night into a meaningful contribution to the well-being of young minds in our local area. Spreading Joy with “Buy a Plate for Mate” In the true spirit of Christmas, Wenty Leagues once again embraced the season of giving by supporting our community partner, Parramatta Mission. While for many, Christmas is a time to gather with loved ones and enjoy a festive meal, it’s crucial to acknowledge that some members of our community face hardships during this season. Recognising the struggles that some community members endure, Parramatta Mission hosted a heartwarming Christmas lunch for over 600 individuals in need. Throughout December, the Wenty Leagues family, including members, guests, and staff, participated in the “Plate for a Mate” initiative. By adding a nominal $5 or $10 to their bills at Chefs Grill or Wenty Café, our community rallied together to contribute. All donations from this heartfelt initiative went directly to Parramatta Mission, helping them provide a special Christmas lunch for those facing challenging financial circumstances. Setting an ambitious goal of 500 plates, Wenty Leagues witnessed the incredible generosity of our community. Thanks to the unwavering support of our members, guests, and staff, we not only met but surpassed our target by Christmas Eve. Wenty Leagues extends sincere gratitude to every member of our community who participated in this initiative and supported our community partner, Parramatta Mission. Your generosity has illuminated the lives of vulnerable members in our community, ensuring they experienced a brighter and more joyous Christmas. Together, we made a meaningful difference during the holiday season, embodying the true essence of community spirit.
Christmas Magic Once again, the festive spirit came alive at Wenty Leagues as we hosted our annual Christmas gift drive. This heartwarming initiative aimed to spread joy to those who need it most, as we partnered with Ronald McDonald House Charities, Westmead. While many of us were wrapped up in the warmth of holiday celebrations with loved ones, it’s important to remember that not everyone gets to experience the season in the comfort of their homes. Families staying at Ronald McDonald House faced the challenge of
being away from their extended friends and family during Christmas. Our community rallied together to make a difference in their lives. The outpouring of generosity from our incredible Wenty Leagues staff, management, and members was truly heartening. We received a diverse range of gifts tailored to children of all ages and interests. Ronald McDonald House expressed their heartfelt gratitude for the overwhelming support received from our Wenty Community. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making the festive season a little brighter for seriously ill children and their families. Your kindness and generosity truly embody the spirit of giving, making Christmas a magical time for all.
Superhero Teambuilding In a heartwarming collaboration, Wenty Leagues once again joined forces with SuperTee for one of our most cherished team-building events of the year. More than 20 enthusiastic Wenty Leagues staff members volunteered their time to meticulously pack over 400 SuperTee medical garments destined for Westmead’s Children’s Hospital. The aim? To turn the hospital experience into a superhero adventure for the kids, making their stays a little brighter and more comfortable. SuperTee medical garments not only allow the young heroes to feel empowered but also provide medical staff with easy accessibility for procedures, ensuring a smooth and fuss-free experience for the little patients. Wenty representatives took the extra step by personally delivering these superhero garments directly to the hospital. Engaging with the hospital staff firsthand, it was a truly wonderful experience to witness the positive impact that these specially designed garments had on the young patients. The joy and smiles they brought exemplify the magic that can happen when a community comes together to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most.
Evolving YOUR
ENTERTAINMENT HUB At Wenty Leagues we are embarking on an extraordinary transformative renovation to evolve your Entertainment Hub. You may start to notice some changes in the club, as we work to create the ultimate destination for entertainment, leisure and relaxation. The comprehensive renovation will see enhancements to the club’s existing facilities, including:
•
Wenty Cafe & Lounge will be undergoing a transformation to expand into a more comfortable and enjoyable space with additional seating, where you can relax, socialise and indulge in food and entertainment offerings.
•
Wenty Stage will be rebuilt from scratch, to offer up a first-rate entertainment experience for all patrons, along with a bigger dancefloor, so there will be plenty of room to bust a move.
•
As part of our build, we will be prioritising accessibility and inclusivity, enhancing access for mobility and visually impaired individuals, where the Starlight Room becomes more accessible, ensuring that Wenty Leagues remains a community hub for all.
During the project, members and guests can still enjoy all the usual activities in the club and offerings at The Plaza will be unaffected with Chef’s Grill, Pizza Mama, and Red Panda Noodles continuing to delight your taste buds. The pictures to the right give you a sneak peak of the finished result we are working towards unveiling in mid 2025. We welcome you to join us on this exciting journey, as we will be providing regular updates of our progress along the way, including exclusive sneak peeks, changes in the club and other special announcements. To ensure you stay up to date, make sure you opt in to receive email communication and follow us on our social channels – @wentyleagues. Get ready to experience a new era of entertainment at Wenty Leagues as we evolve your Entertainment Hub into the ultimate destination for entertainment, leisure and relaxation. ANZAC Day is a day of remembrance that honours the memory of Australian & New Zealand Army Corp soldiers who fought and perished during the First World War. In addition, it serves as a day of reflection for all soldiers who have lost their lives fighting for their countries. The day has been recognised with a National public holiday since 1927, and by the mid-1930’s the rituals we know today were well and truly established, including dawn services, marches, and two-up. The phrase heard each and every year, ‘Lest We Forget’ is recited after the Ode of Remembrance, which is derived from the poem “For the Fallen”, written by Laurance Binyon. The poem reads - “They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old; Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them.” ANZAC DAY MARCH Broadcast live throughout the club from 9am LIVE & FREE ENTERTAINMENT 11.30am - 2.30pm I The Café ANZAC COOKIES Available from The Café EXTENDED CLUB TRADING Wednesday 24 April open 9am -6am I Thursday 25 April open 9am -4am
