year, with the festive season around the corner, we are confidently poised to achieve remarkable results across all facets of our operations. In November, Wenty Leagues will be partnering with the "Be Unstoppable Foundation" during our Melbourne Cup Calcutta Charity Dinner. We look forward to welcoming more than 240 guests to enjoy a night of good food, good company and supporting this outstanding organisation, which focuses on the critical area of mental health.

Dear Members, Reflecting on the previous Wenty Journals and the transformation that a mere 12 months can bring, it's heartening to witness the continued return of our valued members to the club. Wenty is filled with families and friends, who are embracing the club as the ideal venue to commemorate special occasions, savour exquisite dining, and enjoy family-friendly entertainment. As we look ahead to 2024, I look forward to this heartwarming trend continuing.

Ian McCann

As the year draws to a close, it's the perfect opportunity to enjoy all we have on offer across the club. In December, Chef’s Grill will be serving up some delicious Christmas themed specials, including Porchetta with Duck fat Potatoes, Green Beans & Sage Gravy. Finish it off with a delectable Black Forest Trifle Dessert for the ultimate festive meal. In the coming months, I encourage you to enjoy a meal at CHAR (Steak & Seafood) an exceptional place to meet with family and friends. Finish off the night in ENVY, which offers a wide selection of beverages, including cocktails, beer, champagne, and wine. It's an experience you won't want to miss.

partners, including Ronald McDonald House and Parramatta Mission. Together, we aim to alleviate the challenges faced by some members of our community, whether related to social isolation, illness, or loneliness during Christmas. I encourage all our members, wherever possible, to join us in making a positive impact on someone's life at this time of year by supporting our various initiatives within the club. You can find more information about these efforts within the pages of this Journal. In conclusion, on behalf of the Board of Directors, I want to express our appreciation to CEO Glenn Kovacs and his dedicated team for their outstanding efforts throughout 2023. Their unwavering commitment to the club and its members is truly commendable. We extend our warmest wishes to them, their families, and loved ones for a Merry Christmas. To all our valued members and their families, we also wish you a joyful Christmas and a safe and prosperous New Year. We are grateful for your continued patronage throughout another successful year at Wenty Leagues.

her Wiggly friends. Later in the evening Todd McKenney will be taking to the stage to belt out all the classic Christmas carols, along with additional acts to keep the festive spirit going. And of course, no Christmas celebration is complete without a visit from Santa himself! In addition to the entertainment, there will be plenty of food trucks, amusement rides, and a spectacular Christmas Fireworks display at 9pm. Bring your picnic rug, gather your family, and sing along at Carols on Ringrose.

Dear Members, Welcome to our latest edition of The Journal – our first journal we will be unveiling in our new quarterly publication schedule, moving from the previous bi-monthly format. This shift allows us to provide you with more comprehensive and timely updates, ensuring you stay informed and engaged with the latest happenings at Wenty throughout the year. As we fast approach December and the festive season, we eagerly anticipate the joyous celebrations that await. At Wenty, we've curated an exciting lineup of events for the entire family to enjoy and we invite you and your loved ones to join us in embracing the spirit of the season. We are eagerly working towards delivering our Carols on Ringrose event on Ringrose Oval, on Tuesday December 12th. We're thrilled to once again be able to unite our members, their families, and the wider community to celebrate Christmas. The event will feature a live performance from everyone’s favourite dinosaur, Dorothy and

Please consider bringing a gold coin or note donation, as all proceeds and gate donations will benefit our community partners at Youth Off the Streets, a notfor-profit youth organisation dedicated to creating safety, providing support, and offering opportunities to build positive futures for young people. Wenty Leagues remains deeply committed to making a positive impact in our local community, especially during the holiday season. We are once again running our "Donate A Gift" collection box inside our Reception and grand foyer. These gifts will go towards supporting families with seriously ill children, ensuring they too experience a wonderful festive season. All collected gifts will be given and distributed by Ronald McDonald House. If you can, please contribute a new gift, place it unwrapped in the donation box before Monday 18th December, and let's ensure these kids have smiles on their faces during their most challenging times. From December, our popular Ham & Seafood Raffles make their return on Mondays, specifically on the 4th, 11th, and 18th. Each night presents the opportunity to win 75 half-hams and 50 seafood vouchers, totalling over $20,000 in prizes.

As a special treat for the kids, we have Santa's Toy Raffles on Thursday 30th November and Thursday 7th December, featuring $5,000 worth of toys and gadgets suitable for children of all ages, to be won each night. Tickets for all these raffles are available for purchase starting at 5:30 pm, with the draw taking place at 7:30 pm. Santa will also make appearances within the club throughout the month, so keep an eye out for him during your visit. New Year's Eve is a momentous celebration, offering the chance to bid farewell to the year we leave behind while looking forward with optimism to the year ahead. This New Year's Eve, Wenty Leagues will usher in 2024 with a resounding party featuring For the Love of Retro, our final Starlight Show for 2023. Tickets are priced at just $30, and you will be able to enjoy all your classic favourites, spanning Queen to ABBA, Bee Gees to Beatles, Madonna to Michael Jackson, and more. So, gather your friends and secure your spot for a New Year's Eve party to remember! I would like to extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Board of Directors, our dedicated Management Team, and our enthusiastic frontline staff for their unwavering support and commitment through another challenging year. I am immensely proud of our club and the facilities we provide for our members and community. Above all, I wish to express my sincere thanks to our valued members for your continued patronage. I extend to each and every one of you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I eagerly look forward to seeing you all again in 2024.

WENTY LEAGUES IN THE

Laughter really is the Best Medicine THE HUMOUR FOUNDATION Why was the clown sad? He broke his funny bone! Sometimes, all you need to lift your spirits is a laugh, and clowns certainly know how to bring on the giggles, especially for children. The Humour Foundation’s Clown program aims to lift the spirits of children and their families during what can be a scary and challenging time in hospital. Currently being rolled out in 22 hospitals across Australia, the Clown Doctors interact with sick kids and families on a daily basis with the aim to transform the hospital experience. The Clown Doctor’s complete their training overseas to enhance their skillset not only in music and play, but also emotional intelligence, ensuring they have the strategies to be able to appropriately interact with children and families in varied difficult situations. Westmead Children’s Hospital is fortunate enough to have this wonderful program available. The incredible work of The Clown Doctors program not only provides comic relief to those that are going through extraordinary tough times, but the Clown Doctors act in assisting the doctors and nurses in keeping the patients at ease while the medical staff are completing medical procedures. CEO, Glenn Kovacs along with other team members, recently had the opportunity to visit Westmead Children’s Hospital and The Humour Foundation to experience the Clown Doctor Program being implemented. During the visit, the Wenty team were able to witness the wonderful work of Dr Toot and Dr Squish, as they brought laughter and joy to so many children (and adults) with their singing, dancing and clowning around. We continue to take great pride in our community collaboration with The Humour Foundation, and feel incredibly lucky to be able to play such a small part in supporting such an amazing organisation.

21st Annual Gala Luncheon FAMILY OF LEAGUE Family of League Foundation, formally Men of League Foundation was founded in 2002 by Rugby League legends Ron Coote, Jim Hall and Max Brown. The Foundation was established to provide assistance to past players and provide access to financial, social and emotional support. Created as an independent organisation, the foundation aims to offer additional assistance to members of the Rugby League community that are experiencing difficulties. In addition to financial assistance, over the 20+ years of operation, the foundation has contributed over 10,000 hours of member volunteering in various community initiatives. Representatives from Wenty Leagues attended the Family of League Foundation’s 21st National Gala Lunch held at the beautiful Doltone House Darling Island and hosted by football media legend Darryl Brohman. Guests listened to stories from current NRLW Players and past NRL players who told their stories of struggles and the vital services that Family of League provides to the football community including players in their journey, of life after football and also providing support where needed for player’s families. The event continued to fundraise through raffles as well as silent and live auctions, with all proceeds going towards current community initiatives. Family of League Foundation held a fantastic event, and we look forward to continuing to support this wonderful organisation.

CATEGORY 2

In previous issues of The Journal, you may have read mentions of our support of many wonderful organisations through ClubGRANTS. As we are heading towards the end of the year and continuing to develop our community relationships, both with recipients of ClubGRANTS and others, this seemed like the perfect time to provide a bit more information on what exactly ClubGRANTS is.

These are projects outside of Category 1 and include local sporting groups. Over the years Wenty Leagues has been proud to participate in the ClubGRANTS scheme, allowing us to fund over 500 organisations that have made a positive impact on our community. Through ClubGRANTS, we have been able to build and strengthen community partnerships, and we are proud to see the positive impact these projects have on vulnerable members of our community. It has also allowed us to promote community inclusion through our support of local sporting clubs, including grassroots clubs and social sporting clubs to promoting community inclusion.

What is ClubGRANTS? The ClubsGRANTS Scheme was introduced by the NSW Government in 1998 and funds Charities, Sporting groups and community group’s initiatives that have a positive impact on the community. As part of the scheme there are two categories that projects can fall under: CATEGORY 1 Projects in this category cover the areas of Community Welfare and social services, Community Development, Community Health Services and Employment Assistance Activities that directly impact the local government area.

In the 2022/2023 gaming tax year the ClubGRANTS Scheme funded charities organisations to the value of approximately $120 million dollars from clubs across NSW. Many of these organisations are unable to provide these programs within their communities without the funding they receive through the scheme.

SUB CLUB BOWLING CLUB

Reports Zone 10 Midweek Pennants: Qualifying for the Finals

Wenty Leagues Bowls: Dominating the Green in Ladies Mitchell District

Wenty Leagues' dominance on the greens extended to the Zone 10 Midweek Pennants. Both A and B Grade teams have secured their spots in the finals series. Their consistent performance and resilience in the face of tough competition have paved the way for a potential championship flag.

In the heart of Sydney, the greens of Wenty Leagues Bowls Club have been graced by a stellar display of skill, strategy, and determination. The Mitchell District Ladies State Championships and Single Gender Ladies Pennant have proven to be a fertile ground for success. Let's delve into the achievements, the challenges, and the bright future of Wenty Leagues on the bowling green.

Zone 10 State Singles: A Mixed Bag of Results The Zone 10 State Singles witnessed mixed results for Wenty Leagues' players in the initial rounds. September - Smithfield/Wenty Friendship Day

FISHING Our September trip went ahead much to the excitement of those fortunate to be on the trip list.

A great day had by all with Wenty coming out on top.

The water was calm and flat with no wind in the morning. It was very good fishing as we were able to fish at 100 meters with only small fish being caught so we moved in closer to the70 meter mark. At this depth we were able to catch a few more but still nothing to write home about. We moved again in a bit close this time to 40 meters. Overall it was a slow and a quiet day, but we still came home with fish.

October - Dan Cross Money Challenge Winners: John {Rookie} & Lisa Runners-Up: Amando & Mabel UPCOMING EVENTS November

The catch consisted of 11 Morwong, 7 Snapper, 5 Leather Jackets, 4 Pig Fish, 9 Flathead, 10 Sergeant Baker and 5 Gunard.

• Memorial Day Trophy: Sunday 5th Names in by 9:30am. $5 entry

The biggest fish a Snapper weighing 2.01 kilos was caught by Anand Nandoo and the biggest bag weighing 5.28 kilos was also caught by Anand (Senior). We are very happy with our fishing boat captain as he always ensures we come home with fish.

December • Presentation Night: Saturday 2nd December Tickets on sale from the 31st October $30 each • Social Darts Christmas Break-up Friday 22nd December, all welcome.

The October trip was almost cancelled by the boat skipper due to the weather conditions. At the Kiama wharf it was decided to go. The wind dropped and it made for a pleasant day on the water.

Wenty darts club is still the place to be on Friday nights. Come down and enjoy the night with a great bunch of people and have some fun. Dave Shaw, President

There were lots of tangles this trip as we had a full boat now that Covid is behind us. We fished at 70 meters catching Snapper and Flathead. We were able to drift for a while which was helpful and then we moved out to110 meters, the bites were slow but we caught some good fish.

DOMINOS

The catch consisted of 13 Morwong, 16 Snapper, 3 Leather Jackets, 10 Pig Fish, 35 Flathead, and 10 Sergeant Baker.

Dominos is a game of intelligence. Tactics and probability are considerations to play well. Dominos are played each Thursday at 7.30 pm near the Magpie Bar. Payment of $1 is required by 7.15 pm to enable the draw to be made. Players usually play as a two person team and teams are drawn at random. There may be a singles or triples game depending on the number of starters. Most games finish around 9 pm.

The biggest fish a Bar Cod, very unusual this far south, was caught by Lewis Mangion at 1.66 kilos and the biggest bag also went to Lewis with9.86 kilos. Small boats weekend at Corral tree Lodge in Greenwell Point was on the 20th and 21st of October. The weather was expected to be very poor with large swells and strong winds. Those who went still enjoyed the weekend away even though the fishing was poor and almost non existent for most, there was those brave three, Steve, Lewis and Frank who ventured far out and it paid off for them. They came in on the Friday with a very good catch of Snapper, Flathead, and others. They went out again on Saturday and still caught a reasonable haul, they didn’t fish that far out this time.

Dominos recent results to date are as follows 14/09

1st Colin Manton

2nd Josie Moncrieff & Winston Tattersall

3rd Gloria Bugden & Pat Jolly

21/09

1st Gil Chaperon & Antoinette Zaia 2nd Col Manton & Josie Moncrieff 3rd John Chen & Agnelle Edouard

We all respect the sea and ensure it is safe when fishing, the weather can change just like that on the south coast, and it does regularly. We must have one eye on the fishing and the other on the weather. For details on the Fishing Club see a member of the club or contact the committee. The club meets on the second Wednesday on each month at 6pm in the Sports Bar area. Till next tide Phil Nash, Publicity Officer

GOLF

GOSHIN JU-JITSU

Welcome again from Wenty Leagues Social Golf Club. Well believe it or not, Christmas is creeping up. Where has the year gone? Our group numbers are beginning to increase, with some old members returning and our new members bolstering the numbers.

Goshin Ju-Jitsu teaches a system of unarmed defensive techniques, using an attacker’s momentum against them, which is traditionally based and adapted for modern day situations. It is a modern form of the ancient Ju-Jitsu system, where knowledge, not strength, is required to defeat your attackers. Ju-Jitsu is a Japanese martial art that can be enjoyed by women, men and children from 8 years of age.

As promised, the result of our Gosford RSL challenge was a win to Wenty with a resounding 213 to 163 points! Well done to all of our players. The round at Windsor on the 9th of October was our over 50s game and our winner was Matt Pittas with 40 points. Congratulations Matt. On the 16th of October, we had our Memorial Trophy which took place at Penrith with the following results:

2023 produced another very successful year. Due to this pleasing problem, it was necessary to close our books for new junior student registrations in order to focus on our existing students. This allowed our instructors greater scope to nurture the newer students without being disadvantageous to our more advanced students. It is also encouraging that the number of senior students has also significantly increased this year. We look forward to welcoming new students in 2024 when registration re-opens.

A Grade Winner: Frank Soballa Runner-up: Ryan Payne B Grade Winner: Kelekolio Fangupo Runner-up: Matt Pittas

We would like to thank our Sensei Rick Cefai and all of the other instructors including Gary Davis, Andrew Seck, Ray Bligh, Danny Greenhalgh, Ken Bowers, Damian Bowers, Con Konstantinidis for volunteering their time to instruct on the mat. Many thanks also to our assistant instructors, Peter Mead, Allan Owens and Stephen Lawless, their assistance is greatly appreciated. It is always a difficult balance between family, work and school commitments.

C Grade Winner: Ray Johnson Runner-up: Sione Fangupo Once again, congratulations to all of our winners. We finally had one of our jackpot holes go off at Windsor. The 17th is a very difficult par 3, and keeping the ball on the green is a challenge, but Rob Trent managed to get the job done and put it 85cm from the hole picking up an impressive $765 for his effort.

Thank you to our hard-working Secretary, Amanda Seck and Treasurer, Deanne Pierce, who tirelessly look after our club off mat. Special thanks to Caroline Karachristos, for all her hard work every week. To all of the other Committee members, thank you for your assistance, it is much appreciated.

You couldn’t have scripted it, but the very next week at Penrith, Danny Chaiban took the jackpot on the 16th, putting the ball 97cm from the hole. Unfortunately, the kitty had diminished considerably to $45. But two great shots nonetheless, so congratulations to both players.

Congratulations to the following students who were recently graded:

Our Gosford Leagues club challenge was played at Gosford on the 22nd of October with the win going to Wenty with 349 points followed ever so closely by Gosford with 346 points, so a very close battle. Thanks to all our guys who got up early for the 6 a.m. tee time.

Junior Red Belt: Joseph Diri, Thet Nathan Htwe, Aadya Khekale, Swadha Khekale & Sai Sriyansh Neela Junior Yellow Belt: Zayne Ali, Jaswithaa Anandraj, Kai Browne, Kenji Browne, Jonah Diri, Aashritha Garaga, Saketh Ghanathe, Thasvika Gowri, Om Kekada, Sharvi Mogaveera, Rohan Patangay, Amit Rajkumar & Shivani Sakthivel.

We have a few events heading our way before we wrap up our 2023 calendar. November sees our Club and Handicap Championship played over 4 weeks. December is our annual ham and chook day (getting ready for Christmas festivities), Patron’s Day (Hosted by Laurie Capovilla), and finally, our President vs Captain Challenge.

Junior Orange Belt: Joshua Elzahoul, Cameron Evans and Mahesh Rajadurai

Additionally, we have had another two new members (David and Gabriel) join our Club since our last report! It is hoped that we see more people join before the end of the year. If you enjoy good company and a bit of competition, we play every Sunday and anyone interested in playing can find our details in the Club Journal, on the Website or on the Sub Club notice boards in the Club.

In October, Shihan Gary Davis attained the rank of Hachidan (8th Dan black belt). This was presented to him at the AJJA seminar by the Australian Ju-Jitsu Association. Our end of year is fast approaching, so our annual Presentation Luncheon plans are underway and will be held on Sunday 26th November in the Wenty Leagues Blaxland Room. The highlight of the day will be the presentation of our two Major Awards, the Junior Black Belt and the Senior Black Belt Trophies. The Award winners will be announced in our next report.

Finally, I would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Have a safe and enjoyable break and I look forward to reporting in 2024.

Kind Regards. Glen Grant, President

Family night is on Wednesday 29th November and is an excellent opportunity for families to see what our students have learned throughout the year and marks the end of our training year.
