From The Founder's Desk

My Dear Friends,

At the onset I am thankful to you for embracing us with open arms and heart. A lot of hardwork of a lot of people goes into creating and nurturing anything born out of passion - and this magazine is no different. While we create this magazine, your praise is one of the best ways in which WE MAG can be nurtured. Nurturing reminds me of rains. Also because, as I type this, it is raining outside, and I am sitting with a cancelled plan. However, I am not complaining as everything around me looked like it needed watering - the dusty landscape, the parched earth, the drying leaves, my window panes and my mind. I am a summer person who enjoys the ice-creams, mangoes, cotton clothes and vacations which it brings along; and more often than not I have found rain to bring in gloomy weather, traffic snarls, and dirty shoes. However, this time was different. I was waiting for the downpour - like everyone else. And while my window panes were getting cleaned of the grime, I was learning some lessons from it. We hold on to nasty habits, unpleasant thoughts, sadness, shallow relationships for a long time. Like the clouds let go of the moisture which make them heavy, we need to let go everything that burdens us. This is the first step towards cleansing and healing ourselves - be it our mind, body, heart or soul. We learn to adapt to change - embrace it and go with the flow. Cancelled plans we can do nothing about, the perennially dull weather and the muddy pathways we learn to tread. And just like this when things don't go as per what we plan, when there are too many variables which are not in our control, we must leave them be and enjoy what is being offered to us. Remember, rainbows can be seen only after it rains. Rain also teaches gratitude. Like the sun-baked earth thanks the water drops, I am thankful to my authors and readers - without whom WE MAG cannot exist. As always, I would love to hear from you. Share not only your feedback and views, but also your thoughts and ideas with me at saumya@weqip.com. May our parched souls receive a heavy downpour of whatever they need. Much love and with you on this journey, Dr. Saumya Goyal

Letter From The Editor

Dear Readers,

Welcome to the second issue of WE MAG! We are overwhelmed and humbled by the responses we've received for our inaugural issue. A magazine is about partnership and trust and I thank you for putting your trust in us. Thanks to technology we are being read on mobiles, tablets, laptops and desktops. This has enabled anytime, anywhere reading and is helping us reach an audience of global readers. In this issue, Jonice Webb, recognized worldwide for her ground-breaking work on Childhood Emotional Neglect (CEN) shares an article with us on the same. Our nutritional mentor Jolly talks about managing menopause and shares a recipe of Jowar cookies which are loaded with micro-nutrients. An intense photo essay by Ritam titled 'Forms' captures myriad feelings, emotions and states of mind. Our column School Bell showcases 'Kopal Vani' - a school for hearing impaired in the heartlands of India and how it is helping its students become self-reliant. We interview Saher Ali - a holistic psychologist on how she is enabling healing through art. The artists we showcase in this issue's Medium column are Namita and Yukti. Aaradhee presents some analogies to help understand mental health conditions better. Madhujit discusses how we can change our limiting beliefs to empowering ones. A very simple yet effective model to increase happiness is discussed by Dr. Duggal and Dr. Sarmah puts together some Zen habits for leading a successful life. Saumya deliberates on the virtue of patience and Sampada on our need for intimacy. Archana's poem Survivor illustrates the emotional battles of a cancer warrior. Lastly, our Mind Hack column lists 7 quick ways to boost our mood. Thank you yet again to the authors who submitted their work to this edition. We hope they enjoyed writing for us much as we enjoyed reading their stories. I am hoping that you find the stories and pieces here inspiring, thought-stirring and valuable. As your editor I will constantly strive to engage you and build an ongoing bond with you. I encourage you to share your views and engage in discussion on these stories. If you wish to contribute, an article, thought piece, viewpoint, photo essay, artwork, recipe, poem, book review – or anything related to emotional wellness, send in your work to write@weqip.com. I hope you enjoy Volume 1, Issue 2 of WE MAG and are able to take at least one thing from it. Only that can be the true measure of our success. Happy rains and happy reading...

EQUIPPING WELLNESS - MIND + HEART+ SOUL

India is home to more than 1.3 billion people and over 200 million suffer from mental illness sometime during their lifetime. Unfortunately, out of these only a few ever muster the courage to talk about it and reach out for help. Why? Because mental illness is still considered a stigma, a shame, a humiliation, and a big stain on one’s personality. We have a long way to create a culture which considers mental illness for what it is – an illness. We at WEQIP are driven by the philosophy that ‘Mind is part of the body too’ and we need to take care of it as much as our body. In line with this, we are dedicated to creating platforms and driving initiatives which bring people together to acknowledge, talk about, and address the elephant in the room. ABOUT US

WEQIP™ FOCUSES ON ENHANCING WELLNESS OF MIND, HEART, AND SOUL THE TRINITY FOR HAPPINESS

Our publications are completely collaborative in nature and our stories are of people, by people, and most importantly for people. They are for those of us whose life is touched by emotional or behavioural health issue at any point in time in their life – a parent, a teacher, a manager, a child, an IT professional, an actor, a housewife, an HR executive, an artist, a friend to name a few. WEQIP Blog or WE Blog as we like to refer it to and our digital magazine WE Mag is constantly on the lookout of people who have something powerful to say about Emotional/ Behavioural Health & Wellness. We encourage experts, professionals, mental health warriors from various backgrounds to share their knowledge and experiences through these media. The ideas can take any form - art, essay, story, poem, interview, showcase, spotlight, or a straightforward article. The content becomes more enriched as we go along this collaborative journey. If you feel you have a story in you, an idea which would help others, a great practice which is worth emulating, or you are just curious to know more, please reach out to us at – write@weqip.com OUR DIGITAL PUBLICATIONS
