Marcel’s Collision, located at 5584 Tecumseh Rd. E. is a one-stop solution for your automotive needs.

Programs and services include: Individual Employment Counselling; job leads and job matching; employment programs for youth; job search programs focused on resume development and mock interviews; a walk-in Resource Centre with computers available for use; Computer Training; Hospitality & Customer Service and LINC (Language Instruction for Newcomers to Canada) classes for newcomers; on-site Care for Newcomer Children; Food Bank; Literacy and Basic Skills; GED preparation classes; Keep the Heat Energy Assistance; Community Garden; Coats for Kids; Pre-Apprenticeship training classes for cooks; and a Food Rescue Program “Plentiful Harvest”.

Marcel’s has been family owned and operated for 60+ years. Marc Marier, who has 34+ years of experience, is the second generation operator.

After implementation of our Food Rescue Program “Plentiful Harvest”, we determined that a “Community Kitchen” was required so we can use it as a clean room to proportionally repackage fresh and prepared foods, fruits and vegetables, and meats that have been collected for community distribution. In 2012, the Community Kitchen was opened and to date we have rescued over 2.5 million pounds of food that otherwise would have gone to waste. Now the rescued food can be made into soups, sauces, etc. to put on the plates of hungry individuals and families in Windsor and Essex County. For more information please visit www.uhc.ca.

Beyond collision repair, Marcel’s offers complete mechanical repairs; car rental, sales and leasing and in-house financing on used cars.

The company was established in 1951 as Marcel’s Service Garage Ltd. by Marc’s uncle Marcel Marier. “In the early 70s, my father saw the potential of a collision business so we diversified into collision. In 1980 my father, Jerome, purchased the business from Marcel and 10 years later my brother Jerome ‘TJ’ and I bought in,” said Marier. Customer service is #1 for Marcel’s—they treat each customer like family and sits down to discuss facts, as so many people are unaware of their rights and unclear of what “no-fault” means. Marier sees the value in Chamber membership. “I’ve been to some tradeshows and have stationed a booth at one of the venues to educate the community on the insurance process and help guide individuals through a stressful situation.” Marcel’s boasts state-of-the-art technology and recently upgraded and renovated their establishment. Stop in and enjoy a warm cup of coffee while browsing the internet, as they offer wifi, and be serviced by their professional staff. Marcel’s guarantees all repairs for as long as you own the car. Their 100% guarantee supersedes the insurance company. Visit www.marcelscollision.com and call to book your appointment.

WakE ThE SLEEPING GIaNT: hOW TO UNCOVEr yOUr JhSC’S POTENTIaL Joint Health & Safety Committees are like sleeping giants: they have enormous capability to improve an organization’s competitiveness and profitability, but their potential sometimes goes unrealized.

Why do we continually find trip hazards in this corridor?

ow should our health and safety program have prevented this H injury?

Five things to know about how your JHSC functions

here’s the evidence that managers are talking to staff about W personal protective equipment?

hen is the last time your manager talked to you about health W and safety?

It’s been two months since you had WHMIS training—can I ask you a few questions to see how much you’ve retained?

s an employee, do you know your top three health and safety A rights?

1.

According to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, organizations with 20+ employees must have an active JHSC, with at least two members certified.

2.

They are built on the principle that workers and employers must work together “jointly” to identify health and safety problems in the workplace.

3.

The JHSC’s “internal auditor” role is to a) inspect workplaces and investigate problems to make sure the organization’s health and safety program is working as designed; and b) to make recommendations to management about required changes.

Four ways managers and owners can immediately boost the effectiveness of the JHSC

4.

Their “communicator” role is to provide employees with a formal way to voice their concerns and provide suggestions to improve health and safety in the workplace.

1.

Make your passion for health and safety personal.

2.

Join the JHSC members for meetings and inspections at least twice a year.

5.

Management, not JHSCs, are accountable for implementing a fix in response to the recommendations made.

3.

Seriously consider and respond promptly to issues and recommendations raised.

4.

Make your expectations of supervisors known, and hold them accountable.

The most important thing JHSCs can do High-functioning JHSCs try to prevent problems from happening again, or from happening in the first place, by asking questions such as: •
