While you may or may not speak Spanish, have fun using some common phrases! Hola, Adiós — Hello, Bye Por favor, Gracias — Please, Thank you Perdóneme — Excuse me Me llamo… — My name is… Encantado de conocerte — Pleased to meet you ¡Vamos! — Let’s go! ¿Cuanto cuesta? — How much does it cost? ¿Puedo usar el bano? — May I use the bathroom? ¿Habla usted Inglés? — Do you speak English? Puerto Rico has its own version of several English colloquialisms. Some of them are much more fun to say! It’s done. — Muerto el pollo (Dead chicken) You’re being a couch potato — Estas hecho una batata. (You’re being a sweet potato.) When hell freezes over — Cuando Colón baje el dedo (when Columbus lowers his fingers). This refers to San Juan’s statue of Christopher Columbus whose fingers will obviously never move.
