MISSION STATEMENT

Wesleyan’s mission is to be a Christian school of academic excellence by providing each student a diverse college preparatory education guided by Christian principles and beliefs; by challenging and nurturing the mind, body, and spirit; and by developing responsible stewardship in our changing world.

Faith and intellect are great partners.

While knowledge and information are important, wisdom and truth are transformational. We believe that a renewed mind is one that is being transformed into the image of Christ. As Wesleyan students learn kingdom values and gospel truth, they grow in mind, body, and spirit. Wesleyan faculty, staff, coaches, directors, and mentors model and teach that the Christian faith is not to be compartmentalized. Rather, faith permeates how we learn, study, serve, compete, perform, create, relate, and dream. It is by faith that we believe we are called to use all the gifts God has given us to pursue excellence for His glory.

Between kindergarten and grade four –

Wesleyan students learn that they are pursued by a God who loves them; they are known, treasured, and challenged by their teachers; and they can explore, grow, and excel without fear of failure. Wesleyan teachers bring learning to life with the multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham approach to language arts, a one-to-one iPad program to support lessons, and individual and small group work to cultivate opportunities to grow, collaborate, and communicate. From teachers and learning specialists to counselors and after school activity leaders, the lower school faculty is committed to sharing gospel-centered values with students during this exceptional childhood experience.

During the adolescent years of middle school

Wesleyan students build a foundation for Christ to be in their hearts and minds. As they begin taking more responsibility for their own learning and actions, they develop independence in a nurturing environment. Teachers, mentors, coaches, and directors remind each student that they are fearfully, wonderfully, and uniquely created with strengths, passions, and curiosities. With biblically grounded confidence, students explore academic interests and extracurricular opportunities while they grow in relationships with peers and adults.

Ready to flourish –

through challenging academic courses and extracurricular offerings to support well-rounded development, Wesleyan students are prepared to succeed in college. Through Christ-centered relationships, Wesleyan students are also prepared to flourish in college and in their life after college. With a college planning process that expands over all four years of high school, the college advising team has more than 45 touch points with students and families as they discern the best fit for college.

• A 4-person college advising team supports students.

• 100% of students are accepted into a 4-year college.

• On average, each senior applies to 8 colleges.

• The class of 2022, made up of 136 students, reported $8 million in merit scholarship money (not including the HOPE or Zell Miller scholarships).

Wesleyan School seeks to cultivate a diverse and unified community in which every child is known, loved, and valued as an image-bearer of God. In practice, Wesleyan School incorporates diversity programming into the school day through lessons, speakers, and activities. Whether on the stage, in the studio, or in concert, Wesleyan students have the opportunity to discover and grow their God-given talents in creativity and performance. All students can both explore new interests and excel in existing passions. Band, chorus, theater, and visual arts courses range from beginner to advanced placement. Students can further their talents in extracurricular and after school programs.

• Each year, middle and high school students perform 2 musicals with live orchestras and 3 full-length plays.

• Wesleyan offers visual arts classes in drawing, painting, photography, sculpture, and digital design.

the athletic program at Wesleyan is dedicated to encouraging and developing the character of student athletes through participation, competition, and sportsmanship. Physical education classes, after school programs, and community clinics introduce lower school students to the fundamentals of athletic movement and competition. Experienced and dedicated coaches teach middle and high school students to push themselves, encourage their teammates, and compete with distinction. This distinction is not only measured in cheers or championships but is characterized by student athletes becoming more of who God made them to be.

Balancing work and rest is biblically founded

which helps Wesleyan students flourish. The school schedule is intentionally crafted to include academic classes as well as community connection. The schedule also incorporates speakers to support social-emotional learning and time to pursue unique passions in clubs. Additionally, middle and high school students connect in faculty-led small groups.

To help ease the burden of traffic and logistics, Wesleyan offers morning and afternoon bus service throughout north Atlanta.

For families needing more flexibility in drop-off and pick-up times or summer and weekend activities, Wesleyan offers auxiliary programs including before care, after care, Saturday clinics, and summer camp. Quarterly family nights are homework-free evenings with abbreviated afternoon activities followed by a late arrival day with no tests or quizzes.
