Westfield Washington Township is a thriving, growing community. People have flocked to Hamilton County for many reasons, but the quality of life in our wonderful community serves as the basis for all of us. One important ingredient in a highly regarded and successful community is its parks, greenways and open space. It is not shocking research shows an important factor to resident happiness is access to parks and passive nature areas. Parks provide communities with a great opportunity to improve health - both physical and mental. According to Healthy Parks Healthy People, an evaluation of the largest 85 cities in the United States found the health savings from parks was an estimated $3.08 billion. With the New Year comes resolutions—especially those focused on health and fitness— and parks are a terrific resource for those looking to get outside to exercise. If you prefer exploration, passive nature park trails provide a great opportunity for a casual stroll among wildlife and plants. Parks and green space also bring a wealth of economic benefits to communities such as employment, tourism and increased property values. Maintenance and upkeep of parks requires employees. Tourism and spending increase when people plan travel around park access. Research shows, homes adjacent to a passive park can increase in property value up to 20%. Not to mention the natural benefits parks bring to communities such as air pollution removal, pest control and flood control. The importance of parks in our township can’t be understated, and this summer marks the 10th anniversary of MacGregor Park. Let’s celebrate this milestone with friends and family by getting out and exploring this integral part of our community.
