With roots going back to 1913, this year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of Eva Solo A/S. Since the very start, Eva Solo A/S has been a Danish-owned family business, and today it is run by the fourth generation of the family. Over the years, our products have been distinguished by an extraordinary level of innovation. It is not enough to design and produce nice and familiar items – it has always been our aim to challenge the prevailing approach and explore new avenues. As we will continue to do for the next 100 years.

EVA TRIO - A DESIGN CLASSIC FROM 1977 In the mid-1970s, the quality of most pots and pans was relatively mediocre. However, Eva Solo’s then owner, Erik Mangor, decided to change that. He contacted Ole Palsby, who was regarded as Denmark’s leading kitchenware expert, and asked him to develop the ultimate series of pots and pans. The result was Eva Trio, which was launched in 1977. In addition to the professional quality of the cookware, it was groundbreaking in several respects. The series consisted of pots and pans made of aluminium, cast iron and copper – three materials which are each suitable for a specific type of cooking, and which gave the series its name. The distinctive design was completely new for its time and tied the series together across the three materials. Another new feature was that the pots could be stacked inside each other, thus taking up a minimum of space. Moreover, they were developed with three fixed diameter sizes, so the flat, stackable lids could be used on several different products. Finally, the handles on the lids etc. were made of stainless steel rather than the usual Bakelite or plastic, which meant they remained cool on the cooker, yet could be put in the oven. The radically innovative design was named, for example, the ‘Best Thing Ever 1978’ by the interiors magazine Bo Bedre, and the following year it won the Danish Design Council’s ID award. Thus, Eva Trio became a Scandinavian success story, and in so doing helped revolutionise the kitchen. Over the years, the products have become modern classics, and now – as then – we manufacture the series in its original design and quality.

EVA SOLO – FROM KITCHENWARE TO BRAND In 1997, we launched a small range of kitchen utensils which took on considerable importance. The range was named Eva Solo, because it consisted of individual products – or ‘solo’ items as they were called. The range met the growing need of consumers in the 1990s to create their own unique mix of products in the home using different product series and brands. Back then the company was called just ‘Eva’, but the new products proved so successful and such an enduring success that in 2010 the entire company was renamed Eva Solo. Both consumers and design experts immediately warmed to the new product range. It also had all the hallmarks of a good Eva product. On the one hand it epitomised quality, form and function. But most importantly, it built on our tradition of providing new solutions to problems or products.

Eva Solo products are created in collaboration with the design duo Tools, Claus Jensen and Henrik Holbæk. They have designed every single product on the basis of its own universe. “Each product represents a unique combination of form and function,” explains Claus Jensen. “However, products spring from Eva’s long-standing experience to which we have simply added a contemporary look.” Today, there are Eva Solo products for both the home and garden. Over time, they have made their mark on Scandinavian living, particularly Danish kitchen design. Tools is still the prime driving force behind product development, and together we are always seeking to create innovative and exciting ideas for the Eva Solo range.

Moreover, the product range had its own distinct, modern design and unique properties. It continues to be developed further, and over the years has won more than 150 design awards. The best-known products are the CafeSolo coffee-maker and the fridge carafe, today regarded as modern classics. These innovative designs are also outstanding ambassadors for our “Yes, but” philosophy, which describes our desire to add something new to everything we do. In other words, they observe the crucial formula “Yes, it is a …, but it’s also a …”

Claus Jensen and Henrik Holbæk run the design company Tools.
