2023 Golf Year-in-Review
Golf Pro's Report As we prepare for 2024, we wanted to take some time to recap this year's golf season for everyone to read. In this "Year in Review," you will see event photos, a list of champions, and other significant Wexford golf news. Overall it was another busy year with tournaments, lessons, staff changes, international trips, and more. The event schedule was busy with majors, match play events, nine & dines and so much more. For the second year in a row, 111 men registered for the Men’s Member Guest, with 72 gaining entry into the event with the new November date. By the conclusion of the event, the Halsey team outlasted the Stickney team for the championship title. In the Ladies Invitational, 84 ladies enjoyed some golf, a laugh, and plenty of Veuve. The Seale team and the Queen / Ladaga team won the overall Gross and Net titles respectively. The Wexford Women’s Golf Association keeps growing with 122 members to start the 2024 year. They continue to be supportive of ladies’ golf and are working to make next year even better. New this year was the creation of the Men’s Golf Association (MGA), spearheaded by David Jackson. They contested five events with various formats to entertain the membership. David and the golf staff are working on the next year’s dates and formats. Wexford once again hosted the RBC Pro-Am featuring Collin Morikawa and Max Homa, to name a few. In September, the club hosted the Kingdom Cup featuring Annika Sorenstam and Matt Kuchar. This past June, Bobby and I were joined by 14 adventurous Wexford members across the pond in SW Ireland to enjoy some great golf, beautiful sights, and even a pint or two (even Scott). We had some staff changes -- Hunter Miller, having worked for us all year, has accepted a position in Asheville at the start of the year. Good Luck to him. Congratulations to Elisabeth Semelsberger, who will be promoted to Assistant Golf Professional starting in 2024. On a personal note, I managed to qualify for the 2024 Professionals Championship in Dallas, Texas. Next year I will be one of 312 professionals seeking to play well and qualify for the 2024 PGA Championship at Valhalla in Kentucky. Once I qualify for Kentucky, I would expect to make the cut and play with Rory McIlroy in the final round with the hopes of making my 1st Hole-in-One and earning that forever-remembered “high-five” from Rory. 2024 will prove to be another great year as we navigate the Lock Closure at the start of the year and the amenity project next fall.
Cheers,
Scott Hunter Director of Golf
